- Watch to learn more about the redesigned Infantry Marine Course.
Marines with Alpha Company, Infantry Training Battalion, School of Infantry - West, participated in the first iteration of the redesigned Infantry Marine Course on @[244860127876:Camp Pendleton].
IMC is a 14-week course designed to create better trained and more lethal entry-level infantry Marines prepared for near-peer conflicts.
The course uses a learning model intended to develop capabilities for independent and adaptive thought and action.

Semper Fi bro. I served 76-82. The Corps still trains the most important weapon system of all: the mind. We use doctrine, but we also depend on fluidity and thinking outside the box.

0311 ITB should be the new MCT- without the rocket portions of the POI. Other than that, USMC pogs are going to need more AND better provisional 0311 refresher training as part of FD 2030. Distributed, low signature, highly technical combined arms amphibious/ air assault/ motorized and limited SOF capable troops are going to need competent non-combat support. Different and higher standards now exist for combat support jobs in the form of the MSPS, which could be compared to the Australian RAR's Infantry PESA test. Even so, more provisional rifleman refresher training is needed. Convoy defense, Tower Defense, security patrols, hand and arm signals, tactical communications, first aid, naaic m240 knowledge, select designated marksmen, double the number of 09XX training instructor mos billets to each company, double the number of docs to each Marine Platoon (not triple) and request that the Navy establish a permanent Greenside NEC, ecp's, vcp's, combat marksmanship, fire team and squad defensive t&r tasks, intermediate swim qual, etc.

I am a retired Infantry unit Leader andcwas a 22yo Platoon Sergeant in Vietnam and trained at mountain warfare school (commando) ; jungle training in the Philippines and amphibious warfare school, company gunny, wpnsplt cmdr as a gunny and NCOIC of 2 NCO Schools and ITR troop handler. My reason for sharing this is to make a point of matter. In the 21 yesrs as a Grunt with trigger time I am very pleased to see this concept in play because back in the day we always had to struggle to increase the tactical training of our Marines. As a well retired Grunt (all 03 mci courses and badic school extension course) I wanted to be one the best 0369 in the Corps. As a Company Gunny my primary job was to "enforce discipline and train the company for battle". In away I see this as a "package deal " for Grunts and at 75yo and pt x3 a week since I retired in 1984. Never fu#k with a well trained Grunt who is trained to kill.

My son ships to boot at MCRBSD in under a week. Hes always wanted to be a Marine. He could've gone to college on scholarship or pursued a music career, but he choose MOS 03.xx instead. And he was just offered leadership classes after IMC. This kid is extremely patriotic, he's strong mentally and physically, he's smart, he's a fighter and doesn't give up. He'll be an epic Marine. Immensely proud of him. He and I have always been close and it will be hard not having him around, but this is his dream and we know he will make the Marine Corps better through his commitment to being the best Marine he can be. Semper fi you devil dogs.
I may be upset at Gen. Bergher for taking my tanks away, but damn I love that he is so combat oriented. Combat effectiveness and overall lethality is absolutely paramount when you're in an organization thats almost been abolished multiple times and exists solely on reputation.

I appreciate the fact that both the Army and Marine Corps are moving toward a common mindset on how our fighting force must adapt. Everything said in this video directly correlates to what Army commanders have been saying over the last 3-4 years. I think the end result will be a greater lever of interoperability and joint operations between the two branches. This is a move in the right direction. 🇺🇸
Thing to not lose sight of in all the wiz bang new fangled tech approach.. you have to train out the weakness, the quit in people . Id like to be a fly on the wall watching the new training techniques, but I'd still take the old ways before stress cards and , " ohh im sorry, does pfc Schmuckatelli need a safe space? "
I support this. I felt like I didn't know anything coming out of ITB. Back in the late 90's the real training didn't start until we got to the fleet.
0341s still require an extensive course after the new IMC. Mortars are a critical element of the Marine infantry battalion and that course should also be reexamined to provide a better trained Mortarman, not just a better trained Infantry Marine with basic mortarman skills.
0341 from '72-'76. We trained at San Onofre for about 10 weeks. I was a forward observer my last year and a half, usually out with Alpha 1/8 from Camp Geiger. I enjoy seeing the Corps continuing it's creed, every Marine a rifleman.

I suspect that the changes are going to increase the success rate of the course. Whether or not this will create better Marines is a matter for debate and the debate is passionate on both sides. The answer will be answered definitively on a battlefield in the future. Getting this wrong will be costly, getting it right will be costly for the enemy - second place on the battlefield is a grave marker.
