gpapa31 lol I agree on that. Well there is talks of a 5th one. So maybe they will get a younger guy with them that will tell Riggs that. I am excited if they do make another. But at the same time I want it to be right. The 4th one was a good way to end the franchise. The only thing I can think of story wise is there is some younger guy just starting out his career as a cop. And Murtaugh and Riggs are asked to work with him to show him how to be a cop. And then he is able to be a cop without them, but they agree to still hang out sometimes. And at the end of the film he gets partnered with another young guy but older then him.And they meet similar to how Riggs and Murtaugh met in the first film. And Riggs and Murtaugh think back to when they met and they go those two are going to be us.
Zocko Valencia Mel Gibson was 40 then but his character Riggs was written to be in his mid to late 40s like when Lethal Weapon was filming in 1986 Gibson was only 30 but his character was 38
I know this movie is supposed to be a swan song for 2 of the most iconic cops in movie history, I would still love to see one last movie with the pair. They are icons that have never been equalled, by the TV version or any buddy cop movie since.
I’m 23 right now and this is really teaching me. Cause I workout a lot, cardio, hiking, all that stuff but shit I know for a fact it won’t last forever no matter. We gotta enjoy or prime days as long as possible
25 here about to be 26 in a month. You're exactly right on that as I also train, but I'm fully aware we will be past our prime eventually. But at least we can still endure till the end.
I think the thing that really hits here is what they both do for a living. The people they deal with are only getting younger and better armed. Like the armor piercing bullets from LW3. It's not Riggs' ego, not entirely, it's that he can't do the job anymore. The job that kept him alive, from using that bullet. With everything that's happened and how far he's come since then, there is probably a very dark voice in the back of his mind whispering that if he ever stops so will he.
This is the scene that totally justifies the fourth movie, narratively. Can’t believe people talk shit about 3 and 4. Seriously underrated films and franchise.
One Big Thing That Separates The Lethal Weapon Movies From Other Action-Buddy Cop Films, Is The Amazing Chemistry Of Mel Gibson And Danny Glover. To this day, as I'm getting older and I've noticed priorities changing, interests changing and abilities changing, I always say 'Can't beat the clock, Riggs'.
Turned 41 last month. Realizing how much this hurts emotionally when we are gotten as old as Riggs and isnt in his prime anymore. The only brightside im more or less in shape and can improve. But still hurts...
Make that 47-48. Bear in mind this film takes place in 1998. Riggs spent his youth as a special ops in Vietnam. It takes a few years of hard training to become a special ops soldier. The last form of action in Vietnam was in 1972 at what point most U.S. Troops were sent home. Let's say Riggs was 22 years old in 1972. He would be born in 1950. Somebody born in 1950 would be 48 in 1998. Simple. Riggs can't be 38-39. If so he would have been born in 1960 and that would have made him 12 when the American involvement in Vietnam ended. Riggs was part of the CIA Project Phoenix which happened 1965-1972. Here's the proof btw from the Lethal Weapon Wiki: lethalweapon.fandom.com/wiki/Martin_Riggs His birthday is October 16, 1949.
@@scottknode898 According to the Lethal Weapon Wiki Martin Riggs birthday is October 16 1949. He joined the army aged 19 and later became a special ops working for the CIA in the Project Phoenix program in Vietnam 1965-1972. He met Victoria Lynn in 1973 and married her. Victoria Riggs was killed in 1984 (what Riggs thought was a mere car crash) and is still grieving in 1987 when he first meets Murtaugh. If Lethal Weapon takes place in the same year as its release 1998 then Riggs is 48. The last American action in Vietnam was in 1972 at which point the war was quickly being abandoned and most troops sent home. Riggs does tell in Lethal Weapon 1 that he was part of a highly trained special ops during the Vietnam War, so even he was merely 20 in 1972 he'd still be 46 in 1998.
To OP. He can't have been only 38 for that would mean he would have born in 1960. In Lethal Weapon 1 it's revealed that Riggs was part of a special forces in Vietnam. The direct U.S. military involvement in the Vietnam War ended in 1972. But Riggs would have been just 12 in 1972. 1950 is a more likely birth year, making his participation in the Vietnam War chronologically possible. And that means he's 48 in 1998...
I looked it up and this movie began filming on January of 1998, the same month Gibson himself turned 42. And the character himself may have even been older by a few years. So, no. Not 38 or 39.
Really wish they had done one final movie. Maybe around 2004. Riggs kid the same age as Murthas grandkid. Murthah already retired with riggs in his final week on the force. Maybe some shadow company guys from the first movie coming back bringing it full circle. Murtah reluctant to get involved, riggs convincing him like he always does. One last go around, One last saxophone.
RIP Richard Donner. I'm not terribly fond of LW4 but I have to say that this scene is one of the best in the whole of the series, and not just because I'm getting close to the age of these wonderful characters... ;o)

Well cardio /speed in general is the first thing to go as we age but on the bright side your strength only increases long time after your "prime" if you live more or less healthy lifestyle (military requirements for sit ups and push ups only increases until you hit fourty)
Lmfao this is how I felt several years ago. I was so used to being able to go from the couch to 3 weeks of training and get my mile splits down to 6’s without too much trouble at all. I recall going through a training session for several months to prep for a race and was wondering “what in the hell is going on?” I was training, eating well, listening to my body and it seemed like I was working harder than ever to get my splits down. It was very very troubling for a competitive guy like me to ponder and ultimately accept. That I’m in my 30’s now and damn it… it’s not going to be as easy as it was in my late teens and 20’s to do what I used to do. I could run under 5 for a mile pretty easily and now I haven’t been able to break 5:15 going hard. Nearing my 40’s it’s a painful realization that age catches us all. Training sessions and goals have to be adjusted a little more to work with our busy schedules.

Ep 4 was the unnecessary one in the franchise. Riggs too old to be a lethal weapon. Actually LW 3 was bad already but Warner wanted to milk the cow once again
Who cares. That was the point of the movie. Honestly, if we wanna get technical, the sequels in general were ALL unnecessary. Riggs was a Lethal Weapon because he was suicidal and completely unpredictable. By the end of the first one, he's found a sense of sanity.... But I don't give a fuck. The chemistry between Gibson and Glover as Riggs and Murtaugh was sooo good. No matter what, it was always good to see 'em together... even if they were both too old for this shit

gpapa31 lol I agree on that.
Zocko Valencia Mel Gibson was 40 then but his character Riggs was written to be in his mid to late 40s like when Lethal Weapon was filming in 1986 Gibson was only 30 but his character was 38
Can't beat the clock
Hardest line ever
That messagge was for the fans that this was the last time..Anyway,we grew up with them great duo, they do not make movies like this anymore......
I know this movie is supposed to be a swan song for 2 of the most iconic cops in movie history, I would still love to see one last movie with the pair. They are icons that have never been equalled, by the TV version or any buddy cop movie since.
We are finally getting it buddy ☺️
@@rise_of_the_footsoldier Wait seriously? But Richard Donner's dead now :(

Nah they'll just get replaced by their daughters or something 😢
One really they are to old, but still causing chaos in retirement
Who else saw Arnold Schwarzenegger next to Danny Glover at 0:14?
No, is his body double from Terminator Salvation.
No,that is not a Schwarzenegger, but the resemblance is sure.
That’s Roland kickinger an Austrian bodybuilder
Are you sure that was him??
GET TO THA LOCKAAA!
I’m 23 right now and this is really teaching me. Cause I workout a lot, cardio, hiking, all that stuff but shit I know for a fact it won’t last forever no matter. We gotta enjoy or prime days as long as possible
I'm 97 and I can still get it up.
25 here about to be 26 in a month. You're exactly right on that as I also train, but I'm fully aware we will be past our prime eventually. But at least we can still endure till the end.
In my case, I'm 57 and feel and look in my young 40's! That's a fact!
Sure you do pal. And if you try harder you would look 25
That's not a fact that's a opinion, a fact is you are 57 or 58 now as same as you body clock no matter what way you want to belive
Murtaugh would be pushing 70 at this point. He was 50 and retiring in the first film.. lol
He was 50 for ten years.
He was lucky to have a master of getting too old for this sh*t right next to him to help him out.
This is the scene that totally justifies the fourth movie, narratively. Can’t believe people talk shit about 3 and 4. Seriously underrated films and franchise.
0:33 Riggs was probably too afraid to say it
the man opens his heart , is hard to accept we are no young any more , the time is cruel .
Acceptance is the key to salvation. We are only human...
One Big Thing That Separates The Lethal Weapon Movies From Other Action-Buddy Cop Films, Is The Amazing Chemistry Of Mel Gibson And Danny Glover. They Always Delivered Such A Natural Authentic Partnership And Friendship. Whether The Scene Would Call For A Somber, Happy, Frightened, Laughable, Or Anxious Moment...They Showed Such A Genuine-Strong Bond Together, In Every Single Scene And Movie....Always !!
I always knew someday I’d get old.
It just happened far sooner than I expected.
Man, this scene hits much harder than it did 30 years ago!
Murtaw doesn't look a day older than the first lethal weapon!
To this day, as I'm getting older and I've noticed priorities changing, interests changing and abilities changing, I always say 'Can't beat the clock, Riggs'.
Man we’re all getting fucking old....
Turned 41 last month.
Realizing how much this hurts emotionally when we are gotten as old as Riggs and isnt in his prime anymore.
The only brightside im more or less in shape and can improve.
But still hurts...
Riggs was only 38-39, I suppose.
In LW 1. he was around 29-30.
I love Lethal Weapon, btw.❤
Here's the proof btw from the Lethal Weapon Wiki:
lethalweapon.fandom.com/wiki/Martin_Riggs
His birthday is October 16, 1949.
@Vlad 🇷🇴 i say 30 is old im 31
Light that shines the brightest last less
Oof, he was (almost) 3 years younger than me back then. Not a good sign.
Most of us just wanna go on forever but our bodies cruelly remind us it doesn't work like that.
It's gone happen no matter what the only thing that you have to ask later ,is there anything you have done made you life better
One last go around, One last saxophone.
even if you dont like lethal weapon or mel gibson you gotta see the writing for the relationship and the bond between these two carrys these films.
I’m 32 and I’m starting to kinda feel it.
RIP Richard Donner.
I'm not terribly fond of LW4 but I have to say that this scene is one of the best in the whole of the series, and not just because I'm getting close to the age of these wonderful characters... ;o)
Can't beat the clock...can't beat time. Love sports and feel so sorry when others pass me by at swimming and it is even worse at cycling when I notice some youngsters passing me by. Just feel it and remember the same quote "CAN'T BEAT THE CLOCK" no one can.
Well cardio /speed in general is the first thing to go as we age but on the bright side your strength only increases long time after your "prime" if you live more or less healthy lifestyle (military requirements for sit ups and push ups only increases until you hit fourty)
Getting poisoned
“You’re only....”
“We not getting too old for this shit! “We not getting too old for this shit! “We not getting too old for this shit! “
We all get old
I'm to old for this shit!
A very great scene, because not only does it apply to Riggs and Murtagh! They were also talking to the audience, who by the time #4 came out were also getting too old for this you know what!
Accept it. Sage words.
Tom Brady would like a word.
Even Tom had to accept that He couldn’t Beat the Clock.
Shit I hit that point at 37

How i feel everyday
And I'm almost 38
Thats also how I feel about the supposed 5th movie to come
Yep
Know that feeling.
Work your ass off for over 40 years

Fun fact: Mel Gibson was 42 when this was filmed.
The answer to all the questions in the universe? 42.

Jesus this is so sad, i am 27 and i am feeling same way, can't wait to be 50....
Lmao 27 years old is WAAAAAAAAY too young to be feeling like that, you're just out of shape lol
@@2Good2BeTrue45 not necessarily, I'm 36 and in decent physical health but my body has been through multiple trauma causing crashes as well as doing wrestling half my life, tearing ligaments, breaking bones ect... some people will feel it much earlier than others will
You probably just never let go of behaving like a teenager when you turned 20 and now it hurts that people find it pathetic with a person pushing 30 thinking it's ok to party and fuck like they're 17. Just a thought though. I'm sure there's lots of life left in you. If people just learned to become wiser as they become older they wouldn't feel so down about it. Then again, ignorance is bliss these days, truly.
God I wish I was 27 again... Treat your knees and back with kindness...you will thank me later.

I'm not too old for this shit. I'm not too old for this, you will it. We're not too old for this shit.
We're not too old for this Shit! Say it like you believe it!
I'm not gonna buy a hemorrhoid cushion.
Wonder how old Riggs is supposed to be? Roger was 50 in part 1. Now lethal finale or lethal weapon 5 is in development. Smh. What’s the plot? They are getting revenge on someone who shot their nurse at the nursing home?
something between 48-49.
I hate the idea of getting old, I’m only 28, but there is already so much I can’t do that I could in my teen years. I find myself saying lots “this is bullshit, I’m only...” just like Riggs was in this scene and the sadder part, my ex had the same response as Rodger, “you can’t beat the clock”
Right there with you on that brother.
If Riggs was a woman, he would’ve been to old at 30.
and now hes santa with a vengeance too naughty kids who put a contract on him for giving him coal.man these guys really need too stop letting there kids write scripts. seriously I came up with same idea when like 12 but I didn't wanna kill him just take hostage soo he'd understand what I was living with.guess my idea not any better.well guess I'm watching fatman this Christmas lol.
I kill old people who tell me I’m getting old or bother me with their old problems. I’m gonna rock on forever.
Cheers mate
Ep 4 was the unnecessary one in the franchise. Riggs too old to be a lethal weapon. Actually LW 3 was bad already but Warner wanted to milk the cow once again
Man shut the fuck up and just enjoy the saxophone...
Yeah shut the FUCK up
4 was my favorite
rxtsec1 it’s the best one by far
I'm going to be 42 in a few days, damn ☹️😥
