The motor noise is almost certainly the motor ground strap, which corrodes and gets a poor connection. My 2021 Model 3 had that issue and the mobile service guy knew what it was immediately. He replaced it with a strap that he showed me how it had be redesigned to fix the issue and it immediately disappeared and never returned.
It was there since day 1 and Tesla inspected it and said it was within spec 🤷♂️
@@DirtyTesla I’d give a try again if the last go wasn’t recent. I don’t think they knew themselves for a while. I suppose at this point it may not matter if you’re selling it.
@@gforce2002 Does the motor noise have a noticeable sound?
@@dasoda_h_nahuelIt’s kind of a combination whine/whistle sound that occurs around 60-80kmh while on neutral acceleration (I.e. not on regen or accelerating, the energy bar is in the neutral area.). It got increasingly worse over time as the corrosion worsened. I did read some people experienced it because the bolt connecting the strap was not torsioned correctly which would also cause a bad connection.
@@gforce2002 Have you seen how the Tesla innovation shares have been performing lately? Especially on Cybertruck
Kept my 3 that I bought within a month or so of yours, and as you'd suspect, I'm near 90k miles with no paid for maintenance issues other than tires. With a long commute, high treadwear rated tires work great, and I'm a fan of the General Altimax on our cars. The last set was good for over 60k.
I remember watching your Cybertruck livestream and couldn't justify the reservation at the time but still got a later reservation. Look forward to your videos living with the truck, as I'm still not sure its a great fit for what I need - I could have probably lived with a Y all this time!
Just saw the Cyber truck your mom sent photos!!! It's your cousin Jack btw. Soo sweet congratulations!!!!
lmao nice
It's the little events in life that will change your life. Enjoy the little things.
Car seat is just to hold the child in place. NO car seat is going to protect a child from everything, that’s what air bags and crumple zones are for. Car seats are not self contained crash pods. I use a WAYB car seat for my 4+ year old grandson. The only problem with it, is he sits lower and cannot see out the window very well.
Pro Tip - Felt tape on the pillar near the seat belt buckles fixes the rattle
If you're going to pass on getting winter tires in the future then you should try for All Weather tires, instead of All Season. All Weather have a better snow/ice rating than All Season do, so you'll still be covered for the odd Michigan winter storm. (Typically they have the 3 peak mountain symbol on them, like Winter tires do, though they're not as good as winter tires, but also have good all year round performance.)
All seasons have usually those snow ratings here, except those dirt cheap chinesium ones noone really cares to buy.
Why do you call them all weather? 🤔
@@RubenKelevra Because they're literally 2 different things. All Seasons and All Weather have different tread patterns/style. I'd share links, but usually CZcams doesn't allow that so you're gonna have to look it up yourself. Sorry.
I also live in MI, I highly recommend Michelin cross climate 2s. No need for winter tires
Agree this is a fantastic tire.
I did exactly what you did, I got a 2019 model 3. Than in ‘21 I happened to just check what the trade-in for the 3 would be. With 40,000 miles on the 3 I was able to trade it in for only about $2,000 less than what I paid for it. I traded it in for a model Y before they went up in price. The Y was one of the last ones with the radar. I live in MN and picked it up in Chicago while we were on our way to Fowlerville, MI. My model Y also needed a new heater as well but it was when it was below zero out!
I will be starting my own FSD videos soon that are mostly all out in rural MN. I don’t see any FSD videos out in rural areas.
Great video! I always learn a lot from you and I’m looking forward to you cyber truck videos.
I remember you guys saying the MX was too flashy when you traded it in for the other MY lol
Thank You for All that you are doing for our Planet Earth.... Peace.. Shalom.. Salam.. Namaste 🙏🏻 😊 🌈 ✌ ☮ ❤
14:50 thanks for the pointer about the seatbelt rattle!
Have had the heat pump fail twice in my car. Warranty on the first and had to pay 2500 for the second.
2021 M3.
The OEM tires I got 12-15k miles out of them
I get much more on aftermarket tires that cost way less.
Noooo
I own a modelS 90D 2017, and am not worried about warranty, at all. It has been the best car I've ever owned.
Looking forward to the Dirty Cybertruck! That's crazy I didn't know it was illegal to do the pickup in Michigan before
My June 2023 model 3 makes that motor noise too. Usually at 45. I've gotten used to accelerating/showing. And it doesn't happen all the time. I remembered your video so I figured it's just what happens with an EV. Oh, and I just hit 59,000 miles. 😮
Congratulations on the CyberTruck! 🎉 Mine was ordered 4/8/21, so I have a ling wait still.
I, too, have a Model Y LR... now 24 months old and just over 47k miles.
Yes, snow tires eat up range. My tires are, but NO snow tires in the mix, as we've lived in VA & NC. I do ROTATE and check pressure RELIGIOUSLY. I'll be trying for another 10k miles if they continue to hold up well.
My energy use history includes some boat and enclosed trailer towing, I also leave my roof racks on full-time, but no towing for the LAST 10k miles. Here's my data for comparison to Yours and the Rated 270 wh/mi:
* LifeTime w/modest towing = 283 wh/mi
* Last 10k mi, NO Towing = 268 wh/mi
* Yesterday commute 118 mi = 254 wh/mi
So it looks like for me, the rated spec is Spot-On.
NOW, MORE FUN:
MY LIFETIME ENERGY USE is 13,286 wh/mi. Before moving to NC my VA energy cost was $0.11 kWh, and here in NC it is $0.1017. But using the higher cost of $0.11 kWh my lifetime energy expense is $1,430! WOW.
And yes, I Superchargers too so this disregards those longer vacationing type trips.
Cheers, Eric
Those rates are great. I do a lot of highway driving at 75mph so that's probably why mine is high
@DirtyTesla Yes, we have a strong mix of highways where I'm at 75 but lots of country byways as well at 50-60. 👍
Congrats on all of your decisions. My leased 2021 was the first Cybertruck placeholder vehicle. I just purchased a 2018 Model X 100D (fully loaded including Enhanced Autopilot) with 48K miles for $39K and a 1 yr 10K warranty from Tesla. The X is my 2nd Cybertruck placeholder vehicle and it allows me to wait 2-4 years and see how the CT and other BEV trucks/SUV's evolve. Getting a vehicle that is 1/3rd the original cost seems like a to good to pass up opportunity and the extra space od the 6 seater X will be useful in transporting family and grandkids.
You were kind enough to give me some advice regarding this move and I appreciate that. Looking forward to EAP as my first experience with a limited version of FSD good for road trips and your FSD videos have my expectations properly set. I hope the Cybertruck works out for you and the family ...
Enjoy. That's seriously an insane deal!
@@DirtyTesla Thanks Chris. Delivery is in a couple of days and I hope this "insane" deal ends up being sane ... As Woody Allen once said, when growing up, the only sin in my family was paying retail 😀. SInce I'm retired and have 2 Tesla Service Centers within a 10 mile radius, I should be able to navigate any issues that come up for this purportedly finicky vehicle. Even at the great price, I would not have done this deal without the bumper to bumper warranty.
I don't live on a dirt road and take good care of my vehicles so I should be able to regain much of what I spend on the X when buying the 3-4 years from now final vehicle purchase. I'm calling that one my coffin with wheels ... 😄
Looking forward to your experiences with the Cybertruck
5:50 My heater failed in winter in Toronto during the first winter of my 2022 Model 3 as well. Fixed under warranty.
Interesting that Stephanie specifies FSD as one of the reasons to stick with the Model Y, considering she was extremely nervous about FSD early on.
Things have changed a ton. It got better, and she got more used to it. She uses it daily now on certain roads.
Outstanding real world family exciting video. No one has done it better.
Now, if you’d like to drive it up to Northville, I’d love to have you come and visit. Got lots of Girl Scout cookies. Or I’ll come to you.
Please let us know ahead of time. If you’re going to have it semi-displayed somewhere in the Ann Arbor area. Can’t wait to see it.
😎🤙
Good info! Enjoyed the chat.
I drive my Model Y all the time on Long Island without using the heat to save energy. It is no big deal. I just dress for the weather. The average energy usage in my car is about 242 Wh/mile and I often do hard acceleration. That average includes my Occasionally pulling my trailer that brings the energy usage up to 400 Wh/mile. Of the 85k mile driven I would say that I pulled the trailer for less than 500 miles.
… i’ve had a similar problem with my 2018 model three - the connectivity issue you mentioned. It took TESLA 11 service calls over almost a year to fix it. They wound up replacing most things even the computer. It still has this issue but it’s better now.
Exciting! Hope it Goes Great!
My late 2023 Y has no audible noises at very constant driving speeds between 30-50 mph. Your rear motor is permanent magnet?
Good video. Lots of interesting content. Thanks.
Keeping my Y and adding an X on Wednesday. Just got the notification of my delivery day yesterday.
Have to get another charger installed, but my electrical panels are full. My house has 400 amp service, so hopefully they can figure out something to add the new wall charger
Maybe the protective layer of dirt keeps ultraviolet and other environmental harms from reaching the paint. Like PPF, but much cheaper. 😀
I've had the same high pitched noise with my Raven Model S since day one with the front motor
and Tesla says it's a normal thing. Very annoying indeed.
I think the ear-piercing noise is common… same exact noise is happening on my parents Model Y.
Can't wait to see you in the Cybertruck.
Interesting Tesla still pushed the data issues off on your usb hub and such. Possible sure but obviously still had more to it.
The degradation is about normal. I had the same with my 2018 3 and so far the 2023 Y is holding pretty close. I believe Tesla has a bit of upper buffer that hides some of the early initial degradation. It does start to drop quick over first couple years but evens out to a more stable rate.
I was about to pull the trigger on a Model X last week thinking I will still have to wait a while for my CT. Luckily, I get an email to get my Cyberbeast later this year. Will be getting the X-battery as well. 🎉
Congratulations to the amazing CT! I love my MY Rwd LFP, fantastic value.
Great run down Chris.... We have a new 2023 Model Y LR, same color. When I thought about your trade-in value I think you're getting a really good deal even though it might not seem like it. An ICE vehicle with 53k miles probably wouldn't trade-in for any more than $10,000 for a new car.
Congrats on your soon delivered CT.. But bro, you can't be serious with the Y... You have to keep it clean.. It's the law!
Wow, good job you have CZcams to make some money back, that's pretty much more than I earn net in 2 years in the UK How much was your insurance for the 2 years? and do you have road tax in the US like we do in the UK? I have an old Ford Cmax and do about 6k miles a year, probably costs about $1000 for everything for the year :)
The Model Y motor bearing resonance / whining issues right now are brutal. We legit traded in our 2023 for a 2024 because our front motor screeched so loud and the new one still does it, albeit less loud. Our 2021 we still have is DEAD silent.
Not that it means anything, but our 2023 Model Y doesn't have this issue at this point. Just wanted to provide a different data point. In anything product there are always going to be issues with a few. Even if the Model Y had a .5% issue rate, that would be thousands of cars with issues.
@@mathewherges397 Right, you have one data point. We have three. Tesla replaced our drive unit and it was even worse. It's a widespread issue.
You keep the heat on 23 °C in winter??
I would die by heat exhaustion 😂
I keep it on 18 °C, maybe 19 °C on very long trips, if it's cold out (heat running) and higher if it's hot outside, to not get a heat shock if I leave the car. Say 5 K below the outside temperature or something like that.
Given your dirt roads the cybertruck is the perfect vehicle for you. I hope they get fsd soon for you.
Next you’ll need to get a gen 3 to compensate for the cybertruck costing you twice as much to travel in than does the Y.
Funny my OEM tires lasted way longer than 15,000 miles!
MYP owner here. Next month will be one year old. 18000 miles. Just rotated the tire third time last week. Treads look great. Should be able to do 36000. I drive normal. Knowing the torque eats tires. I hardly floor it at light.
💣video, Y😎!
Waitin' patiently for some Cybertruck videos!
H🤠WDY to the fam!
I have 2023 Model S plaid. Please tell me what’s so great about autopilot? If i got to continuously squeeze the wheel every 10 seconds what’s the purpose?
My wife and I both just hang our left hand off the bottom of the steering wheel, its enough pressure for it to never nag and you can go for hours of driving without thinking about it at all. So if you don't have a yoke you could try that. We've had 5 teslas and we have done that with every one of them.
@@blanketwodahs6741 yeah i do have the Yoke. I find myself not wanting to use it because of that. I’ll give that a shot see if it will work. Thanks for the advice though.
The front Tires on my 2020 Model Y lasted over 50k miles. My back lasted over 70k miles. That is weird about Chris's tires.
It seems really variable. Many ppl have your experience and many have mine
Do you think the refreshed Model Y will go to 48V, steer by wire? It would be the perfect time to evolve, that's for sure.
Painful to hear about your $.10-$.13 per kilowatt hour electric rates.
in California, Pacific gas and electric rates range from 42.8 to 61.9 cents per kilowatt hour, depending on season and time. 😳
Tesla has an offer now that will move my full self driving to a model Y if I take delivery before the end of March, as well as up to 10,000 miles charging, depending if I traded my vehicle. I have a 2020 model 3 with 53,000 miles, standard range plus. Any thoughts out there as to the potential benefits of the deal? Sitting a little higher is one of my needs as I’m 4‘7“ on a good day…😉 thanks!
It is a great deal and if financially it's an easy move for you, i 100% recommend it
Hey Chris, You should consider getting an estimate from Carvana. My guess is you will get a LOT more. Great work!
Or CarMax
Carvana was slightly less
Felt tape for the buckle and any other rattles
im doing the same thing trading in Y currently waiting for cybertruck vin
Hey Chris, did you transfer FSD to the CT? I'm trading my '19 RWD LR M3 for a Y. Initially Tesla offered me $22,200 for the M3, but bc I'm transferring the FSD to the Y they said they could only give me $10K. Basically charging me the $12K for FSD instead of the free transfer until 3/31 they advertised. Congrats on your cyber truck!
We transferred to our 2023 Y and foundation Cybertruck has FSD
Congrats!
What's the trade in value? 25-28k?
Yikes, $26k for the trade in. 😳🥺
Your thumbnail came up as goodbye. Thought you were leaving your channel.. I was so disappointed.. Thank God, it was only your Y. Can't wait for your videos on cybertruck.
Ha maybe I should change it, it says goodbye Y
@DirtyTesla yes, it does say goodbye y, but on my phone, the y was cut off or squeezed under something else.
I'm going to ask mid view. Are you going to be able to transfer your FSD when it becomes available on the Cybertruck?
The cybertruck already includes FSD. I think he already transferred it to his wife's Model Y.
We already transferred the FSD to our 2023 Y
Oh yeah, that's right. I forgot. 😁
Chris, if your average usage is 300Wh/mile how did you calculate your battery range to be 310 miles? That would mean that the battery capacity is 93 kWh. My battery capacity has diminished to about 64 kWh from 75. That would give me a range of about 265 miles.
Any concern for making the road more dangerous by driving a massive truck for commuting?
The ultrasonic sensors are way overrated. My new Model S without them works much better than my 2022 model S did. The ultrasonic sensors were constantly lying to me and I was hitting curbs.
I want to see you get the Cybertruck dirty,
And clean the Cybertruck.
Hey Chris are you and the fam gonna do some road trips in the CT?
We're heading to Florida a few days after picking it up, gonna be huge!
@@DirtyTesla I'm looking forward to that to be just as chatty. Hopefully an hour+
Wow lol well... I'll do my best
@@DirtyTesla I'm sure if you include the whole family I'm sure you can get some extra fluff don't forget to pack the Nutella
Tesla Cybertruck! 😍😍
Would your wife be interested in getting an EV9? Significantly cheaper than an R1S while having all the spaciness of a three row SUV.
I really want to test drive it with her. She said no but I think she'd change her mind if she tried it
Why was it illegal to pick one up in Michigan back then? Labor/Union laws?
Direct sales laws from the manufacturer
48k miles on my oem tires. I replaced them with the exact same tires from continental
Same here with my 2020 Y. I now have a 2022 with 40k miles and i should be good for another 5000 or so
Both cars with 19” Gemini wheels
Insane Chris only got 15k!
@@Hildepedia I do keep my Y in chill mode 99% of the time, so maybe he is on to something with FSD destroying his tires?
My wife is the primary driver of our car… She also stays in chill mode. I totally understand how that can make a difference, just shocked at how much of a difference.
um... no FSD on CT?
For now, it'll get an update
Nick mentioned!
You were there too! 😂
He got it where is the CT video !
Uploading ahhhhh
how is he getting a CT in a week if he was late in reserving it?
I reserved it night of reveal
Tesla needs to open more delivery / service / collision centers. You should not have to drive hours to get your car serviced or repaired after an accident. Northern Indiana is a Tesla desert with the only repair / collision centers being in Chicago. What a traffic nightmare. Tesla needs to plan out service centers like they plan out charging stations. You should only have to drive so far to get to one. You should not have to travel to the next state to get your vehicle repaired.
No more FSD for you... hahaha
We have FSD on our 2023 Y
Cybertruck doesn't have the self driving feature, how would you make videos with it?
It'll come later and we still have a Y
thoughts on a used model Y? How many miles do you think are too many? congrats Chris!
Powertrain warranty is 8 years, 120k miles, so no point in doing anything while it's under warranty
With EVs miles aren't as important, personally I'd want a lot of battery warranty remaining so under 60k or 70k miles should be good (LR Y gets 120k battery warranty)
Chnage your channel for Rusty Tesla 🤣
Wait can you transfer FSD to a different car?! You just lost the $10k essentially ?
So I have to wait for mine because all these influencers had to have one…
😂 I reserved night of reveal
I thought I left the video speed at 1.25x or 1.5x by accident
😂
My condolences on your diminished new ride
The most important question….
Are you going to wash it before you give it back to Tesla? 😂
Probably not 💀
why change that nice Y for something that will consume so much more energy per mile ?
I want it
Fahrenheit what are u an alien ? :p
have you washed your tesla before?
I traded in my model 3 on a model Y about the same time you did. I did a search on my old M3 VIN and found out that it went to Carvana and is still there and never sold.
YA GONNA WASH IT?
SOMETIMES
Could you do a video about climate change, how the climate has changed where you are and what impact your EV, solar etc have helped your energy use? I think it's something we're all concerned about but people are not sure what they can do personally
last
how could you not afford a Cybertruck, yet you had a Model X?
Loans, options gambling :)

4th!
You paid $65K plus $10K for FSD and Tesla is only giving you $26K for a trade in. I guess it is true what they say about the price cuts/depreciation effecting trade value. 2 years old wow. My 2018 Honda CRV is worth more!
65k includes FSD, 55k+10k
@@DirtyTesla thats better... hope they used some lube
Are you looking at the dealer resale value or what they will pay for your car, there is a large profit margin sandwiched in between. Also selling to Tesla is for convenience, not because Tesla offers the best trade in price. Further, FSD is transferrable, so he did not lose the FSD in that trade.
@@khuo0219 In my experience and others I trust, Tesla will offer you more for your ICE trade in than other ICE dealers. Basically, wholesale price, because you know Tesla is not in the used ICE sales model and they want your sale ASAP.
Why would you sell such an amazing car for 26k it’s worth so much more than that! Just keep it.
2nd!
Won’t you lose your ability to make fsd videos?
We have the 2023 Y with FSD and Cybertruck will get FSD eventually. I already lost my ability to make FSD videos since I don't have V12
@@DirtyTeslaAh I forgot about the 2023. That works out then. Hopefully you will get V12 soon. Have fun in your Cybertruck it looks fun as hell :).
first!
I think that was no your best idea. Untested huge vehicle that has a lot of problems. Badly spent 100k. You could have two model S for that money. OR even Rivian. CyberT is a toy :(
Cybertruck will be ready for normal consumption in about 2 years
Yup. I would say that too.
