  • I made Malibu rum from scratch and the homemade Malibu was better! This video is essentially an exercise on how to make coconut liqueur.
    We apply some trusty culinary/mixology techniques like vegan milk clarification and infusions for this experimental drink experience.
    We made sure our DIY Malibu passed the Coke test and even shook up a luscious Toasted Coconut Margarita (T.C.M.) recipe.

    Have you seen Kevin Kos' video "Malibu, But Better! Homemade Coconut Liqueur" or article "Homemade Coconut Rum Liqueur vs. Malibu | Who Will Win?" I imagine some of the issues you experienced here were solved there. Any chance of a follow-up video? I just wonder where on the spectrum it would compare to a Brinley Gold Shipwreck 'Coconut Rum', Planteray 'Cut & Dry Coconut Rum', SelvaRey 'Coconut Rum' or Kōloa 'Kauaʻi Coconut Rum'.

    I've already tested coconut meat infusion in 96º cereal alcohol for 2 months and it didn't taste good... I also recently tried to make a milkwash (coconut milk )and there was no separation. I made a banana liqueur, and I want to add a touch of coconut.
    One thing that worked was fatwashing with coconut oil, it's amazing. Maybe for Malibu it works better.

      Yeah the infusion was a pretty big fail, lesson learned. Milk washing with coconut milk is really tough, I think I’m going to keep experimenting and maybe I can crack the code 🕵🏻‍♀️

      I mean… that sounds amazing. Maybe an aged rum base with coconut sugar syrup?? Not sure that it would be super coconut tasting but I’m pretty sure that it would be very delicious tasting 😋

    Why does it matter if milk goes into liquor or vice versa? Was that a joke?

    • @VeryGoodDrinks
      @VeryGoodDrinks  Před rokem +1

      Liquor into milk helps curdle the milk more evenly, the other way around can create large clumps of curd which doesn't filter as well. Sorry for not clarifying that! pun intended.

    1300 views and 55 likes, such a travesty. You suffer for your art! ;) Also once you do the second pass of milk clarification you can just use a coffee filter, the curds have done their work
