Being a classical musician for around 20 years I can tell you that this is how a lot of classical musicians treat eachother from what I’ve experienced - especially in professional settings
As another musician, not only is hearing and pointing out flaws in others performances completely involuntary, but sometimes I wish people would tell me that I got things wrong while playing to give me motivation to keep practicing rather than feeding my procrastination with delusions lol
not a musician, but an artist. this sentiment can be shared with literally ANYTHING! you cannot improve if nobody gives you feedback, and while some people see feedback as rude, it is absolutely a necessity. ive gone as far as to tell someone that i want them to insult my art just to get some critique out of them, because the most they weere willing to do was call my art ‘nice.’
@wrightcember have you ever just walked by some painting or piece and just been disgusted by how bad the techniques were. Clear brush strokes, bad mixing of thinner, terrible composition, etc. One of my memories was someone asking me how a piece was on their phone and I just went off involuntarily. They deleted their post after and I felt bad ( the person who showed me their art was a younger cousin). I've been trained for this and it makes me sad.
@@aaronmontgomery2055 ive done the same, but you should tone it down. ive had to teach this to myself and a LOT of people do not appreciate criticism without explicit permission. if they dont wanna learn, they dont wanna be taught :(

@A Z Did your parents love you enough? I ask only because I can’t think of any other reason you would be here talking shit. It’s also weird since your pfp is something a 12 year old would have. O and btw I’m great at piano.
@A Z Aw. I’m REALLY sorry I got to you. I guess someone hasn’t encountered enough trolls to know that’s what I was doing. In case it wasn’t clear by my claim of piano playing, I was joking. Maybe I should have expected you to take it to heart *since* you took the time to correct the usage of the word “troll” in another online joke… And I’m not sure what you think the word “since” means, but I’m using it as a conjunction.
I like to imagine that Fanchen actually knew nothing about piano before this, and his piano abilities were fuelled by nothing other than pure spite and hubris.
As a guitarists I can guarantee you that type of trash talking will get him verbally assaulted and if said to the wrong guitarist, punched. In short, talent means nothing if you can't defend yourself
He apparently has a piano video from five years ago. Still, not impressed that he decided to be an arrogant piece of shit just because he knows how to play the piece better than an aspiring musician.
As a competitive pianist, this guy is good. Like really good. For non-music people it’s almost impossible to feel the sheer magnitude of the difference, but his technique is incredibly clear.
A someone who was raised on piano and music, I think it would be fair to call myself an "intermediate" musician, though to be fair I basically "gave up" at about 15-16. Though I have some talents, I've never considered myself special. What I've come to learn is that music (and the arts in general) is very intangible to non-artists/musicians. Laymen tend to percieve it as some sort of arcane wizardry rather than simply a skill that one improves at over a lifetime. The first guy is very obviously a hobbyist with maybe a few years under their belt and the second is a serious musican who's probably been playing since childhood. It's like comparing someone who's been studying a language for 2-3 years to a native speaker. I think many have experienced this phenomenon, when you're someone who practices hours a day and you walk outside of your bubble into the laymen world it can be very jarring. You're baffled by the things you see people being impressed by. It's not because you're an asshole, it's likely because you've spent a lifetime being told you're not special yourself and being made to iron out imperfections that are very glaringly obvious to you. I think there's similar things such as chess, gynamastics, etc. People don't really understand the levels of self-criticalness those worlds can leave you with, you're basically getting heavily roasted starting at age 5. It can actually be unhealthy.
fr this ties into the jus because u spent days n days on something that’s extremely difficult n complete it dosent mean ur subjected to only positive feedback makes me mad cause a lotta ppl r like this irl too totally disregard on any non positive comments even if ur tryin to be respectful
JaGWLH kinda baited with the over-praise, but I cant fully side with Fenchen's approach. I have SEVERE doubts that if I went to an art museum or concerts and said "No offense, this is mediocre" to everything with no elaboration people would just nod and "appreciate my honesty". Personally people "can be jerks" about their opinion, but small comments like that come off as snooty unhelpful jerks looking for trouble. Have an INFORMED opinion and convince me, at least. Any d-bag can just say "I dont like it therefore its mediocre!" ike a brat.
Lets be honest #1: Everyone NEEDS a friend that will tell you the truth. #2: Criticism isnt a bad thing just because there is not "positive" part. #3: If the guy saying you suck can do it better than you, then he is justified in haaving his opinion and speaking it.
Also, mediocre is average. I bet a mediocre millionaire doesn't take offense to that term. Rush E is hardz and takes a lot of talent to play and upload. So even mediocre of the best, is still good. Plus, he even said No Offense.

Fr, people don't get that half of the difficulty, and honestly most of the brainwork (for me anyway) goes into arranging/transcribing the music rather than learning the piece itself.

Sorry to interrupt your conversation with yourself but I just wanted to say that I do agree. The russian theme and powerful notes make this a pretty decent villain theme.
The fact that there is a video about this is mind blowing. 9 times out of 10 when someone tells you that your performance is dogshit, it’s because they can do/have done way better than you. Your only mistake is leaving the argument at the end and never even attempting to see what the other person was saying.

People have different ways of elaborating their argument. Fanchen's way of elaboration is more effective in backing up his argument than just spouting out some musical theories that will fly over most people's heads.
If that "bad guy" was actually musical professional, it's quite normal for him to share his honest opinion. Why should he lie? He's not your friend or mother nor your girlfriend. Yeah, he's being harsh, but that's mainly in response to incompetent (in his opinion) praises. Also, harsh criticism is important for anyone struggling to improve. All that blind overpraising makes people too stop trying to improve. Of course, the criticism might eventually break your will to engage in that field (because it seems that you don't improve at all). But there are 2 important points: 1) Don't engage in such open and competitive fields if your psyche is that weak because you'll face harsh (and sometimes unreasonable) criticism anyway, 2) One instance of critical response won't do much harm, only systemic harsh treatment would really affect any normal person.

not a musician, but an artist. this sentiment can be shared with literally ANYTHING! you cannot improve if nobody gives you feedback, and while some people see feedback as rude, it is absolutely a necessity. ive gone as far as to tell someone that i want them to insult my art just to get some critique out of them, because the most they weere willing to do was call my art ‘nice.’

How can you dislike this? I don't see anyone else actually playing it.

But there are 2 important points:
1) Don't engage in such open and competitive fields if your psyche is that weak because you'll face harsh (and sometimes unreasonable) criticism anyway,
2) One instance of critical response won't do much harm, only systemic harsh treatment would really affect any normal person.
Motivating people through harsh words means nothing if no one is interested anymore in learning the craft you mastered.
