    Thanks for the great video. I have one on order. Something I noticed with the hard tonneau cover, when folded all the way forward, the prop holds it against the cab light. There is a rubber piece there, but I wouldn't want to travel with it that way. Competitor covers have prop rods that hold it away from the cab.

      Interesting, I have very little experience with the bed covers. I am driving a ranger tremor right now though and loving it!

    great review, always a nice pace. More POV at night time if possible. I'm getting older and need better headlights. Not many reviewers comment on this.

      Thanks for the tip, I typically only really mention the headlights if they are really good or really bad. I'll keep that in mind and see if I can't throw in a short night time section.

      Automotive journalism is a side gig for me, so I fit it in around my day job and family time. Sometimes I don't like harsh lighting when I film during my lunch break, so I go early in the morning. I need to find the perfect balance haha.

      That keypad is so that you can lock your keys in the vehicle and simply put in a code to unlock it. This is a nice feature for outdoor adventurers who don't want to worry about losing our damaging their keys.

    Curious if your dog can get comfortable with that back seat or does Ranger only ride in the bed?
    That seat kept me from buying one because i have two retrievers and there isn't much you can do with that seat. Otherwise, on a test drive, I liked the ranger better than a new Tacoma.

    • @EngineAdventures
      @EngineAdventures  Před 3 lety

      The cab is certainly small on the Ranger. Actually for most media vehicles they don't allow dogs and Ranger rode in my wife's car to the park nearby, and I thought since he has the same name that I'd put him in the video.

  • @johnstrand2247

    Very excellent info in this review and i know what you mean about these high gear transmissions. I think we could get by with a good 7 speed if they could build one. I know the 9 speed that Jeep is using is a complete disaster and the entire time that i owned that POS I never saw 9th gear ever.

    • @EngineAdventures
      @EngineAdventures  Před 3 lety

      There have only been a few times when towing heavy that I felt a 6 speed wasn't enough, personally a 7 or 8 is ideal. However, I do really like the new 9-speed from Nissan assuming it is reliable.

  • @jakes5530
    @jakes5530 Před rokem +1

    Seems fine to me, I've heard the 10 speed needs about 10k miles to learn your specific driving methods to smoothen out. Headlights and road noise at highway speed seem above average for the class. At first I was first sold on the Ridgeline, but now I may consider the Ranger because it has a higher driving position, and is more capable. I can also potentially get some $$ off MSRP since my uncle works for Ford.

    • @EngineAdventures
      @EngineAdventures  Před rokem

      Thanks for watching and commenting!
      The Ridgeline is more useful for daily tasks (larger all around and more storage space). However, if you need more offroad or towing capability, then the Ranger is the way to go out of these two.

    I just purchased the Lariat FX4. My question what would you recommend for a bed liner?

    • @brad1909
      @brad1909 Před 3 lety +2

      spray in bed liner. goto a car/truck shop that specialize in it and they can add tie hooks etc. . plastic liners not that great, plus some shops will have different colors other then black .

    • @EngineAdventures
      @EngineAdventures  Před 3 lety +2

      I second that, I've had other vehicles with plastic insert bed liners and the bed gets really bad underneath them. The spray in liners are more durable and wont trap water between the bed and liner.

    The tubes are drains to redistribute the water that is in the rails.

    It might be the worst transmission I have ever owned. I bought my FX4 new and have put on 20k miles and will be hopefully trading it in soon. Transmission has only gotten worse. Mine bucks at times when coming to a stop. Dealership said nothing in wrong but I've driven others and there clearly is. Almost everyone who rides with me comments on it. Still slightly upside down on the loan. Ford's 0% APR, the little turbo engine convinced and the deal I got convinced me to trade in my Colorado on one.

    • @EngineAdventures
      @EngineAdventures  Před 3 lety +1

      Sorry to hear yours is having troubles. It seems to me that GM does a better job with the 10 speed than ford, the last one I had was in an Escalade with the 6.2 V8 and it was the best performing 10-speed I've driven.

    • @revilsdr
      @revilsdr Před 2 lety

      I had nothing but trouble with my 2021 ranger XLT sport in four months it was in the shop seven times. I traded it in for a new frontier no comparison on the build quality. Also the resale value is not that great on this truck as compared to some of the other midsize.

  • @dc76384
    @dc76384 Před 3 lety

    So if I'm not mistaken is the Ford Ranger is a piece of junk...especially the transmission. 10 speed what garbage.

    • @EngineAdventures
      @EngineAdventures  Před 3 lety

      I hope I didn't come off that way too much. I like the Ranger quite a bit, it has a lot of really good features. Ford's tuning of the 10-speed is not as good as it should be, but it's still a capable truck. Check out Chris O'Neill's review of the Ranger for a discussion on why the Ranger is a top contender in the midsize class. He talks about how it has a higher payload then the top selling Tacoma, based on a trip he took in the Ranger.
