It would also look great if you put a red HST at the corner diagonally across from the 1st red HST, i.e. top right and bottom left corners; then you would have a red pinwheel forming at both the top and bottom of the block when it intersects with another block.

When making my first double Irish chain, I noticed I had sewn all my checkerboard squares incorrectly. It was 10:00 p.m., but I stayed up until 3:00 a.m., to rip them out. I went to bed happy. Then when I came back to sew later in the day, I realized I had sewn them right the first time! Thanks for all your tutorials. I love how you explain things and the cadence of your speech. For me that is important.

Hi Fallon you just showed me what to do with my blue and white half square triangles. They are all solid fabrics. I had them as bonus let over from a project I did years ago. I had some already trimmed and pressed. Just recently trimmed the navy and over half the red only a few of the red to do. Have plenty of back ground also. Did not know how I was going to put it together until I seen the video tonight. I am in south Australia.

Love it and love that you showed real-life boo boos. We can all relate to those! I just bought your 3 1/2" Trimlock and will be squaring yup 352 HSTs for a quilt that i need to finish. I think that your pattern could look fun as a scrappy quilt with a predominant color or colors for the center pinwheels and a solid(ish) background. I think I'd keep the squares unfinished at 3.5". Of course, I could use my Accuquilt to cut the HST pieces....

I use my liquid starch on the seam line-on the thread itself. It relaxes the thread and helps it lay flat and avoids the residue problem. I love how flat the seam lays. This is a cute quilt. You really can’t go wrong with HSTs and blue and white! I will keep this in my arsenal for when my HST scrap collection gets large enough for a project! Thank you.

A great block, thank you - and the other thing that's great is your quilting, this type of quilting enhances the blocks, these days so many are over quilted in a loom and instead of the blocks standing out, they end up like big pieces of fabric.

I don’t think I’d do a quilt with that many HSTs even with your trim took the thought of trimming them all puts me off. The quilt does look fabulous. What is the pen you use for starching the seams? It looks different from the one you used to use. My biggest mistake was on an EPP quilt. I had two blocks in the wrong way around and I didn’t notice it until I had it basted! Luckily with EPP it’s easy to remove specific blocks and re sew them. That quilt is still waiting to be hand quilted!!

Biggest mistake: I was hand sewing hexagons. Very tiny tiny stiching. I was so proud of how small and even my stiches were. Then I discovered that I had sewn the wrong side and could not open the seam to right side out. Had to unpick hand sewn microscopic stitches. Almost wasn't sure I was going to get it out.

Oh my goodness! That’s awful. It’s hard enough to rip stitches that are longer but tiny ones are so hard. I feel like I always snag fabric!
