- Stuart Saves His Family is a 1995 comedy film directed by Harold Ramis, and based on a series of Saturday Night Live sketches from the early-to-mid 1990s. The movie tracks the adventures of would-be self-help guru Stuart Smalley, a creation of writer/comedian/politician Al Franken, as he attempts to save both his deeply troubled family and his low-rated cable access show.
This is a GREAT movie everybody. Its a comedy, obviously, but it really delves into real family issues and problems everyone can relate to. I really love it.
Love this movie...I once got a part time job as a waiter just so I could tell a customer "No" when they ordered a drink. Fired immediately and it was completely worth it.
One of my favorite comedies of all time!
I like this movie. This movie made me cry because I do come from a dysfunctional family. Like him, I'm in the phase of trying to concentrate on myself than on their problems. I grew up with depression, low self esteem. There are scenes on this movie where I cried at how close they were to my thoughts
I'm starting to think that everyone comes from a dysfunctional family.
I loved this movie when I was younger, and it's weird watching it now, understanding the stuff going on behind and all. I always loved Swoosie's part in the film. There was that hint of visceral rage you could just make out few a few seconds.
As a former server, I LOVED it when the guy orders another double scotch and Stuart just smiles and says, "No!" LOL! Wish I could have done that! There were times when people would be drinking too much too fast, and I wasn't in a position to tell them they need to slow down or wait for their meal so the food could help with their absorption rate.
That's my favorite line from the movie, too! But it wasn't just a drink, it was a humongous steak and everything buttery and unhealthy on the menu while the guy looked like a heart attack waiting to happen. I still think of this when I'm in a grocery store line and the person in front of me is buying a cartload of unhealthy junk. I keep waiting for the checker to do a Stuart and say, "Uhm......no."
A character very ahead of it’s time.
this is the best recovery movie
I found this video funny.
And that's... okay.
I need to own my sense of humor.
Dog gone it, I like this comment.
Very underrated movie. Probably the third best SNL character movie ever after Wayne's World & The Blues Brothers.
My favorite comedy film of all time.
as an addict, daughter of an allkee, I laugh and cry at different parts of this movie Everytime! nobody even knows it exists. I want my ppl to rejoice when I die, by watching this Hilarious film. love you all!!!!!!
I met Franken in an airport once and I told him he wrote the funniest book I ever read - Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot - and he laughed. I loved this movie too.
Love the whole movie. Camille Saviola as Stuart's boss Roz Weinstock is especially funny. She reminds me of Kaye Ballard.
I agree with you! The scene when she tells Stuart that the Holocaust survivors in Skokie prefer the Skinhead Hour to his show was the best in the movie. I can't believe she's not a bigger star.
I love him!!
This movie was hilarious 😂
I couldn't stop laughing as I walked out of the theatre after watching this.
My favorite movie of all time! Al Franken’s best!
I think you'd have to see more than this tidbit. He was a writer for SNL for years and he writes some hilarious books as well. Just my opinion though.
Holy shit! I forgot all about this character!!! Damn when SNL was still awesome and very funny during the 90's!!! Unlike today's shit SNL. Anyhow thank you for loading this clip!!!
RussX5Z SNL is getting good again
too funny...i've been a fan of Al Franken, since the SNL days, Minnesota is lucky to have him as their senator!
"I'd like another double scotch"
"No (with a smile)" LOL
i've seen the sketches but never the movie. watching this, i really wanna watch the movie now.
Just saw it on Netflix. A wonderful movie
This movie is so underrated
One of my favorite movies 😅So many great lines!!!
Best scene in the movie imo. Love the way he says no 😂
On the side?? ...ON THE SALAD!!! 😡 🤣🤣🤣🤣!
I laughed when I realized that in the bar scene, Donnie is in two different places at the same time.
The restaurant scene is so perfect. And hilarious.😂
Wait a minute they made a movie out of this?! Wow! I thought this was from SNL at first. Ha! I either never heard about this movie being made or I forgot about this. Either way this is a good thing. I'm going to rent this movie one of these days.
Al Franken, 2020. Because he's, good enough. he's smart enough, and dog gone it, people like him. He's kind of like the humorous uncle you knew as a kid, but later showed his true colors .
i love Stuart Smalley!!!!!!!
I LOVE THIS MOVIE... I hate that Al is no longer a REP...he needed him.
A-HEMMMMM! Cracks me up every time! LOL
What blinding rhetoric! I've never heard a point made in a fashion so eloquent, so thoughtfully and with such a command of the English language. Sir, you are a rhetorical marvel!
On the side? ON THE SALAD!!!!!!!
I love how all of the comment sections for Stuart Smalley videos always devolve into bashing Al Franken and heated debate between supporters, haters and confused Saturday Night Live fans who either a) don't know that Franken is a senator or b) try to find fellow people who came solely to watch the video so they can discuss about how much they love it. Then there's that one person who's in love with Franken's dimples.
Never change, Internet. You're beautiful just the way you are.
Crazy to watch the first few seconds of this, and then realize that this guy is a US senator now!
Franken needs to bring the 12 steps to CONGRESS!!
He reminds me of Richard Simmons
"VAGINA!!!" XD
LOL....I love this ! "She's like a Cootie....or something"....I loved this movie.....TY for posting!
"I'm gonna die homeless and penniless." Hope springs eternal.
AL FRANKEN FOR STATE SENATOR IN 2014 !!! VOTE FRANKEN ! :-D
he's a U.S. Senator you dipshit, not a state senator. There's a difference.
and he's been in office since 2008.
This moron asked a Supreme Court nominee about Perry Mason at her hearing. He is still a joke!
You... VAGINA!! Not this scene but still the funniest part of this movie haha XD
Yeah, people like Ronald Reagan, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Fred Thompson . . . you're absolutely right, actors should never become politicians.
I thought this movie was great and I don't care what the critics say. But in fairness I also loved "It's Pat" and "Bio-Dome", which were both released around the same time. So maybe my judgment isn't great but I know what I like.
that is fine love what you love like what you like screw those who stand in your way
jeffw1267 Me too man!!!
Creamy Caesar.
On the side?
ON THE SALAD!!!!
I hear you, Marine. He's mine, too, and I couldn't be more embarrassed.
Stuart Smalley was the only talk show host SNL sketch to be made into a theatrical movie, SNL planned a movie based on Sprockets and wrongfully cancelled it during development, SNL will find out that abandoning the Sprockets movie titled Dieter before pre-production was a mistake that can never be undone.
I want this movie so bad.., can't find it on DVD.
Thanks I will go look
Did you try Amazon? They have just about everything!
At least my last name isn't the name of a psychological disorder. I bet you get your kid intentionally sick for attention, just like your making a big stink for attention right now... Why am I not surprised?
Answer that, STUPID...
I have it on VHS.
This is what they show young boys in school today - what a great role model ...eyes rolling.
theres our senator, dude was at my school today
I wonder if his grandparents see him as a politician and then they see him as Smalley and are like "WTF did I just see?"
This is funny, remember Al Franken on SNL??
Boy do I love Al Franken - he nailed it with Stuart Smalley. How you spell bullshit? Ask Al Franken ,-]
Northernlion made me need to look this up.
This is a great movie. When I first saw this, I was convinced Al Franken had to be gay to play the part so incredibly well. He is right on the money.
Why isn't this movie on DVD?
I took a picture with him
Where can I find this movie?
Is the rest of the film posted?
@zombiepi Is this movie not on DVD? That's a crime.
Does anyone know the name of the guy who franken based his character on? He had a local cable show in NY
@AntiTraci Strange, I love this movie, and it lost so much money that a tentative sequel was cancelled.
I'm no fan of Al Franken the politician either, but when it comes to politics and such, one has to take Stuart's advice: It is better to wear slippers than to try and carpet the world.
LOL@ 1:29
I loved this movie so much, and I can't stand Al Franken.
@ryan49er1 Yup, me too! I'm very political, hate Franken as a senator, but love his acting and writing... he's a very funny guy, and this film proves it. if I can post here without making a political statment, (guess I kinda did already...lol), believe me anyone can! lets keep it light people, please.
He DOES have the personality of a hardcore mormon. haha.
He doesn't have to say anything satirizing certain types of gays, he is a caricature of them. Not homocontra but joking.

@AntiTraci
hah, that's really cool that he responded to you. he's probably more accustomed to receiving criticism for this film LOL
2:20 to 3:05 is hilarious
wow, and he is for the health form bill
A wonderfully underrated movie. Franken was a disgraceful senator but he sure is a talented entertainer.
yeah i dont think so buddy, im pretty sure the majority of america would rather wait in line to get healthcare then never get it at all
i'm very angry at alot of these comments about politics instead of the movie but thats ok..i'm entitled to my anger :p
Senator.
REPUKES - GET OVER IT!
Why can't people from different walks of life enter the political arena? When he, like Reagan and Schwarzenegger did, it wasn't about entertaining, but taking a stance on the issues.
And I'd like another double scotch.. Stuart : no🐸
And to think, this was a U S Senator.
Sigh. You have no idea; go read a book.
no, i more for british humor, the dry, sarcastic kind, and silly humor doesn't do it for me. i hope he has more luck in politics. i think he's on the right track there.
You obviously don't know many Mormons.
I came here to watch a snippet of Stuart Smalley. NOT to read up on gay-ass politics.
gay-ass politics are his specialty!
Bryan Reyna you poor little thing!
yeah, i do too except comedians should never become politicians same goes with actors and singers! he was funnier as a comedian but not so as a politican.
I can not believe that this guy is our senator.
He was good enough. He was smart enough and dog gone it he was the only state senator who wasn't full of shit
well its like the old addage, singers should never be actors and vice a versa!
Am I supposed to be convinced by this? Unfortunately, it's all too typical of liberal arguments. Lots of namecalling, lots of emotion and absolutely no substance whatsoever. Come back and talk when you are capable of 5 word sentences that don't contain insults.
lol! Now is know why you started groping women..That sweater from a recovery sex addicts 😂😂😂
Ok, well look up how to use punctuation in your next big read. Also, the US Senate is wholly distinct from our "Administration," which refers to the executive.
You obviously have no idea what each position does, and thus -- unlike what your teachers told you -- your opinion is utterly invalid and irrelevant.
what is so great about al franken? this was hardly funny.
