Clean engine oil test Castrol Edge Titanium FST 0W40 and Mannol Legend + Ester 0W40
How does the test work?
The same amount of oil was 3x heated up to 250 ° C with a stream of hot air at 550 ° C.
The oil sample is always at the same distance from the heater. The oil temperature is measured by a professional standard laboratory thermometer.

Why do I heat the oil to such a high temperature?
I want to show the limit possibilities of oil, where the oil loses its properties, and oil begins to precipitate pollution and settle on the walls of the engine. It is similar temperature to that prevailing in the engine, e.g. in the upper part of the piston. The fact that the temperature sensor in the engine shows 90 ° C does not mean that the entire engine has the same temperature.
How to assess the oil condition after the test?
10 - very good
1 - poorly
I will give only one value. I take into account the degree of oil blackening and the amount of dirt on the walls of the tube. The blacker the oil, the stronger the smell of burning.

And the conclusion is ? NONE. No text , no explanation , nothing ... heating up some oil and then moving it around in a glass jar does not demonstrate or proof anything nor bring any conclusions!

Mannol is so much cheaper, which means you can change your oil more often before it gets to this stage.
exactly, i have now decided to have mannol my favorite oil because it's cheaper and good oil. castrol price is about double mannol price.

@@difsid569 I used 0w30 legend extra for my Bmw f10. I used becuase on its website it says it is compatible with Bmw ll04. I used it for 40.000 kms. Every 10.000 kms I changed it with mannol because of its price. The car is 100.000 kms on it. As I said I realised that the engine sound is not good as it was in the past while accelerating. The sound was better before like F1 cars. I consider to change it again with original or a castrol if it compatible with ll04.

I used both !!! Castrol is excellent but little expensive . Mannol legend IS really good and far away cheaper. Both are good choices.
Good for 5000 miles/6 month interval because Mannol is not fully synthetic. I get confirmation from Mannol directly

@@rondhole Very few oils on the market are Group IV Full Synthetic, 90% are Group lll Hydro-Crack Oils with some Ester Synthetic in them. The differance betwee Group lll and Group lV is marginal.
@@RIFCHE23 No, they are not lieing, there is some Ester Synthtic in their oil, the same with Castrol, Mobil 1 or any other brand. The term FULL SYNTHETIC is a marketing con! Motor oils are classed into 5 group, l Mineral, ll Refined Mineral, lll Hydro-Crack, lV Synthetic, V Ester. 90% of the motor oil on the market today are of the Group lll Hydro-Crack Oil. It was the law suit Mobil vs Castrol that got Castrol to call their Group lll oil Synthetic, after that everybody else jumped on the band wagon calling their Group lll oil for Synthetic. Germany infered a "TRANSPARENCY LAW'" where the package must state if the oil is Hydro-Crack or Synthetic so that the consumer knows what he is buying. Do not be foold! All oil is API/ILSAC Rated, which means one oil is no better nor worse than another. It is the auto manufacturer who determine what special additives are needed in their vehicales as stipulated in the owners manual.

I dont care. I just bought 20L of mannol 5w 40 motor oil for £60. For £60 i would only get 8L of castrol............ Nuff said. Ill just change oil more frequently.
I use Mannol 5w30 in my 2003 Smart car. I reckon brilliant oil. I do change oil and filter regularly though..
These days all you really have to look for are the specifications of the ACEA and the manufacturers approval.
The Mannol stuff meets the same standards as the fancy Castrol.
The viscosity is actually less important than the grade of oil. It does not really matter if you pour a 5w40 into a motor that calls for 0w30. In fact the slightly thicker oil can even be beneficial.
These days pretty much all engines call for high spec synthetic oil. Thats one of the reasons why oil is so expensive right there.
Low grade straight minerals will junk your motor!
@@alouisschafer7212 Almost all motor oils have a high API/ACEA rating. The viscosity is important due to the thight tolorances of modern engins.
Rule of thumb...follow the manufacturers recomendation as stated in the owners manual.

Zmieniłem Castrola na Mannol Ester 5w30 w Bmw530i oraz 530d już ponad dwa lata temu i nie mogłem uwierzyć że będzie taka różnica na plus. Przede wszystkim śilniki zaczeły pracować równiej i spokojniej oraz wyraźnie ciszej. Ktoś kto jeździ na codzień swoim autem czuje auto i śilnik...całym sobą i wie o czym mówię. Wszystko jest ok z autami a ja jeźdzę raczej...szybko ale po rozgrzaniu śilnika o czym nie wielu pamięta że to ważne!Pozdrawiam🙂👍🏻

Several contributors have incorrectly stated that Mannol is only SEMI-SYNTHETIC. A little research will show that it is FULLY SYNTHETIC and is called "BI-SYNTHETIC". This does not mean it is semi-synthetic. It means that it uses 2 types of synthetic base.

База более стойкая у Кастрол Эдж , так он и стоит то в 2 раза дороже чем Маннол , а вот в тестах на машине трения выигрывает Маннол у Кастрола , Маннол просто чаще менять надо из за чуть более слабой базы , но цена масла это позволяет делать
конечно маннол это миксер который смешивает, но для частых замен в самый раз. я просто убивал двигатель заливая якобы оригинальный кастрол, шелл, мобил

Surely just because one oil turns lighter or darker than the other could be the type of additives used, slightly differing base oils etc. If I were to put my big toe in the flame it too would turn black, what does that mean? Nothing really apart from being very painful. A proper scientific test evaluation is needed to have any meaningful results.
A toe that doesn't turn as black as yours is the better toe. Simple as that.

I respect your work sir, there is a lot of time spending to do this... but in my opinion this test it's wrong! Because the oil in the car has no glas parts where hes traveling! There are only metal and gumi parts, wehre his traveling! Hot oil in contact with metal, like Aluminum or brass, its a corrosion together! With glas his stays clean all the time, plus in engine, motor oil has to accomplish even the cleaning part of the engine! Parts like turbo, are brutally hot! Most of the time, it's that little oil pipe that produces all the damage! With a oil that not resist that much at hot, the small holes of that pipe, will be close! And after, turbo has no more lubrication, and causes the damage!

@@PiotrTester No dobra, dalej jest to wymyślone kryterium "na oko" wg wzornika kolorów i nie ma się to do temperatury oleju w silniku w zakresie 90-130C. Naprawdę nie kumam. Że co, ciemniejszy bardziej "spalił się" o to chodzi po ludzku?
Test ma pokazać czy z oleju po podgrzaniu wytrącą się jakieś zanieczyszczenia, osad. Jeśli podczas tak krótkotrwałego testu olej okażę się zanieczyszczony, aż strach pomyśleć jak będzie wyglądał nasz silnik po "n" krotnym podgrzaniu oleju. Na górze jest link do tabeli, proszę zobaczyć jak wyglądają oleje z niższymi wynikami.

Temp. 250°C to jeszcze nie jest górna granica oleju w silniku... Niestety mój termometr wzorcowy pokazuje max. 270°C stąd też podgrzewanie do zaledwie 250°C.

@Piotr Tester wiem że to strefa marzeń ale brakuje testów w ekstremalnie niskiej temperaturze czy niskie temperatury przechowywania nie wpływają na jakość oleju po jego rozgrzaniu lub jak zachowuje się film smarny przy "pałowaniu na zimno" dla różnych oleji dla tej samej normy SAE.
Oczekuje Pan testu tarcia oleju wyjętego prosto z zamrażarki -30°C? To raczej nie wykonane... ponieważ zanim przeleje zmrożony olej do maszyny temp. tego oleju będzie już w granicach dodatnich...
Tzw. "pałowanie na zimno" jest pokazane (tak mi się wydaję) w testach tarcia w normalnej temp. gdzie olej nie osiągnął swojej optymalnej temperatury roboczej.
@@PiotrTester Nie do końca. Bardziej parokrotne zamrażanie i rozmrażanie czy wpłynie jakoś na olej czy może się coś wytrącić (a nie powinno). Ewentualnie jak wpływa na olej właśnie przejście temperatur poniżej 0 stopni do roboczych czy szybciej taki olej straci swoje właściwości np kolor. Wiem jest to problematyczne zamrażać na noc w lodówce i potem wlewać do czajnika do 100 stopni potem znów zamrażać. Chociaż być może dało by to obraz pracy oleju na krótkich trasach w mieście przykładowo.

Hallo würden Sie diese Test mit *Pennasol 0W40* machen. Das Öl wird in Deutschland auch viel verwendet.
Mannol sollte man öfter wechseln als castrol....dafür ist der preis ganz anders...bei mir sind die wechselintervalle sowieso egal bei welchem auto bzw. öl immer bei ca. 8.000km

The important thing is I need the original oil... In my country, there is a lot of imitation of Castrol oil. They using recycle oil with new bottle. We can not tell the difference of them either it is original oil or imitation oil. Poor to Castrol oil.

@@NumairAidroos GEt it from local store, certified distributor where you live. Petronas Malaysia are also great and cheap and fully synthetic. Mannol is mostly dino oil, not fully synthetic.
@@rondhole Mannol is junk. I prefer Motul batches from France and Italy. For spirited runs their Esther 300v grade fluids are good, but not for long runs. Regardless of the manufacturer, do your research and stick to Flagship oil formula, econ and racing versions are not suited for city driving or longer change intervals.
You mean they are putting Mineral Oil in Full Synthetic bottles? Scrape the aluminum seal under the cap and see if there is a CODE MARKING.

@@riopugh8220 I got an email directly in German from their customer service. They explicitly said, there is no single full synthetic (PAO/Ester) Mannol. They are all from mineral HC synthetic Oil. It is considered a group III oil and close enough to group IV. Good value indeed with a low% of PAO but a good selling trick. Neither Mobil1, Castrol, Shell has full synthetic these days. They are all mostly group III.
