It's the Raimi Spider-Man flick that ended all Raimi Spider-Man flicks, literally. The hate this movie gets is massive, but Nostalgia Critic is going to see if it's still warranted after all these years. Let's take a look at Spider-Man 3.

We should probably fill people in on the changes we’re making for a bit (thankfully it’s not many):
-We’re still putting out videos, including Nostalgia Critic, we just won’t be having the cast all together. (We filmed this a week ago)
-In terms of current movie reviews, um…we’ll just have to see. Some studios are beginning to stream their films online instead of showing them in theaters. If that’s so, we’ll certainly make videos giving our thoughts on them.
-We're still on Twitch, we'll just be streaming from our homes instead of the studio. We may need to work out some technical issues so be patient if something is delayed. www.twitch.tv/channelawesome
That's about it. This is a unique situation for most people, but keep
your wits, stay protected, and for God’s sake, laugh. Humor has gotten
us through a lot in the past and I'm sure it’ll play a big part in
helping us move forward. Stay safe, stay smart, and of course, stay
awesome.

Nice work, Channel Awesome crew! I actually liked the next two Spider-Man movies. I feel like the second one "flopped" because people wanted it to fail so Spidey could join the MCU.
The Birth of the Sandman is a universally praised scene, and it deserves every single praise it gets.
Easily the best part of the entire trilogy. And the reason why Sandman should've been the sole villain. If he was and the next movie was good we probably never would've gotten Garfield's mess.
And the flack it does get from the scientist acting rash and without caution can actually be explained away as well. It's quick to miss but the first white-coat says that "There's a change in the silicium mass.", meaning that they only measured the mass and supposidly density of the sand already present. If course they should still have installed cameras but the part they did do they got right.
@@voidjockey82 Yeah it's weird that he discounted human error. Humans fuck up all the damn time. Though the movie could've added in they were pressed for time or about to lose their funding if the experiment went wrong. It'd have been more understandable why they'd buck the rules a bit if they needed results fast.
I bet I could come up with a praise that it doesn't deserve.
@@OptimalOwl Go for it?
"I did not hit her, it's not true, it's the symbiote. I did not hit her, i did not... oh, hi Harry"
Lamunes ADV this is an underrated comment
This might be controversial but I honestly think Peter hitting Mary Jane was pure accident.
Just think about. Peter was already in a fight with at least one bouncer and Mary Jane grabbed him from behind. So odds are Peter probably thought it was another bouncer grabbing him right then instead of Mary Jane.
Also this doesn't take away from the impact of the scene either since if Peter hadn't given into his darker urges and worn the black suit then he wouldn't have acted like such an asshole so wouldn't have gotten into a bar fight and therefore Mary Jane would've never been hurt.
Oh, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, what a story Lamunes ADV.
@@batshineman174 also due to the symbiote enhancing his powers but not trusting anyone due to not knowing anything about Earth, Peter's Spider Sense probably would've gone off (It pretty much is confirmed through all media that Peter's Spider Sense activates when something or someone he doesn't trust is near, it just doesnt work the way it's supposed to 100% of the time.)
Mr. Ditkovich: Give me rent.
Peter: In a few minutes bitch!
In my opinion, heres what I would do:
Keep the Sandman and Harry subplots.
And use the whole venom story for a separate movie.
the sad,no, the depressing thing is that THAT was the original plan, it oculd have been GREAT DAMMIT
Yes, because Sandman is awesome and Harry had his development in the past movies, so he's already set up. No need add more!
It would be cool if they use only the sandman and suit. Leaving Venom for the sequel.
@@jjsalas But what about Harry?

Sandman: Anakin Skywalker's true arch-enemy. ;D
Can sandman make a SANDwich?
I want to see this movie
Now all I can imagine is Anakin Skywalker meeting Sandman and IMMEDIATELY getting freaked out
Sam Raimi didn't want to include Venom, he admitted he didn't know how to do venom, he was forced to by the execs.
Specifically Avi Arad, Producer of the film and one of Marvel's owners at the time.
So because Venom was so popular in the comics Arad pressured Rami-who is clearly a Steve Ditko era SpiderFan-freaking Sandman looks like he jumped off of a comics page-into using him.
If this movie had just been about Pete versus Sandman and New Goblin it would have been a hell of a lot better.
Also N.C. really called it on how really invested the audience was in the Pete and MJ relationship. The audience I saw it with reacted the same way that his did. Uncle Ben gets shot to stone silence, MJ kisses Harry the entire audience gasps in shock...
It should've been 2 movies.
More time for relationship stuff, more time for harry - peter rivalry, first movie with sandman & harry as villains. Then symbiote & eddie is introduced by the end.
In the second movie peter gets infected by symbiote, his transformation, his realization, eddie gets symbiote, venom, their fight.
And also more time to make eddie brock the anti hero & show his side.
And no Gwen Stacy.
If this had worked, we'd have got a vulture movie. And more memes.
That explains so much🕸
If he was forced to include Venom, he could've at least done extra research to ensure he got him right. Even if he hated the character, he should've put the extra effort to make him as best as can be. I mean, for God's sake, he doesn't even make Venom/Brock say "We," instead of "I."
@@salarzx62090 I mean it's very easy to tell someone to put some extra effort being relaxed at home, than being in his position under pressure from dozens of producers and putting millions and millions of dollars at stake.
Funny how Bryce-Dallas Howard, a redhead, played Gwen Stacy. Then, Kirsten Dunst, a blonde, played Mary Jane

I'm so disappointed that we didn't get that.
The guy we barely saw across multiple movies was going to be a well-known Spider-Man villain? Sounds like it would have been awesome. Guess there was a Spider-Man Cinematic Universe (SCU) before the MCU.
I think one of the low-key laziest parts of this movie is how the butler knows that Norman Osborne's death was self-inflicted. Loyal butler, world's best coroner.
Sony imposed that scene to be made and added because they thought audiences were too dumb to realise Harry changed his mind on his own (the original, deleted version has Harry look at a picture of him with Peter and MJ, then we see him deep in thought. Harry isn't seen again until his heroic entrance to the final battle. This deleted version of the scene is restored in the official Editor's Cut, which removes Sony's reshoot with Bernard)
@@seymourkrelborn4780 fascinating. Thanks for sharing, I had no idea.
@@mrmacross The Editor's Cut also restores a scene that makes Sandman wanting to kill Spider-Man more believable. After Sandman's return and before he meets Venom, he visits his daughter who is at the beach with her mother, as a giant sand castle. After she leaves he promises "I won't let him stop me again".

My guess why Sandman just roars when he's big is that a larynx is too difficult to form at this early stage of his new life.
I would've like if NC used something like '' We are attacked by the mummy!' in the background instead'' I have sand in my shoes now!''.

Other than the fake hair, his J. J. is actually pretty great.
Well since he is playing himself AND a character, I think the point is to make his characters look as different as possible from his normal look. It's all about distinction. Also I'd add, he looks a lot like J. Jonah from the comics.

12:33 Wanna know something that's gonna make you depressed about this joke?
After losing a court case revolving around a Sexual assault case that was later proven false, Stan Lee's last words in public were "I think I'll go to bed and die." In his later years, the love of his fans were the only thing keeping him happy along with those occasional projects he was involved with like Super 7 and that Super humans of his. His agent was exploiting him, his daughter blamed and hated him for all her relationship problems (She said that a lot of men were dating her for a shot at some of that Marvel money), a nurse trie to take him to court with a sham accusation, and the people he thought were fans were not only bashing this man, but also celebrating his death. He was at his lowest point in life after that trial, and died thniking the people he worked for hated him.

Things I genuinely like about Spider-Man 3:
-The black symbiote suit was a killer.
-Thomas Haden Church's performance.
-The special effects were so good for its time especially the scene where Flint Marko turns into Sandman for the first time. That shit was beautiful.
-Venom when separated from Eddie Brock looked like a terrifying creature straight out of a Tim Burton/Henry Selick animation.
-The dance, yes, THAT. FUCKING. DANCE.
-The part with J. Jonah Jameson and his pills is absolutely hilarious.
-Stan Lee´s cameo.
-The theme about forgiveness. Peter Parker learns to forgive his uncle's killer, Harry learns to forgive Spider-Man and Mary Jane forgives Peter.
-When Peter and Harry team up to save MJ is one of the most satisfying scenes of the entire trilogy.
-The song "Signal Fire" by Snow Patrol in the end credits after the final scene where MJ and Peter reconcile is so powerful and the best end credits song of the Raimi films. It makes me teary-eyed everytime I hear it knowing there won´t be more Sam Raimi/Tobey Maguire Spider-Man movies and the trilogy ended in such a bittersweet tone.

I've been trying to flip an egg in a frying pan like Harry and MJ did in that one scene for THIRTEEN YEARS.
Maybe they were going for a “what regular people see vs. what peter sees”.
So when the people are just looking at him like he’s insane is real life, and when people love what he’s doing it’s all in his head.
I mean the symbiote can mess with his head
Wow that could be true. If it is though then they should've made it clearer. And if it isn't true then it should've been, that would've been a cool idea.
“Far from home.” Ha. True
Honestly, if this movie just had Sandman, Harry and Their relationship. It’ll be good.
That was the plan. But this movie was a victim of huge studio interference that forced Venom into it or Sam Raimi wouldn't be allowed to direct it. He did the best he could, but well...brought to you by the same studio that reboots a franchise still fresh in people's minds.
Eddie brock becoming Venom should have been an end credit scene
CovahDX that would’ve made so much more sense than him being one of the main villains. And it would’ve technically been Sam Raimi putting venom in the movie. Damn Sam missed his chance to make the movie better
That’s what the original script was. Then everyone said Venom!
@@Jtr999 basically this. It would've been instant box office money for spiderman 4.
I think the scene with Harry being clotheslined would have been a little better with Pete saying "oh my God that actually worked"
Wasn't Rami forced into adding in Venom when he really didn't want to?
Yes, I hear he didn’t know that much about the character. He was forced to because Venom was very popular in the comics
@@ljdi1 The problem is a film with 3 villains I'm not sure can work, if you can make sandman and Harry interesting theres no need for Venom or at the least not in the context of the film
You failed to mention MJ brushing off Peter trying to support her after the bad reviews and her not telling him she was fired. She's just as bad in the relationship as he is.
Fun fact: Sam Raimi is *now* directing "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness". He can do comedy and humor right (Spider Man 2).
He's only considered.
Not sure
Wasn't that one supposed to be the MCU's first horror movie? Raimi can do light-hearted and funny, but I don't know about suspenseful or spooky.
Sure, but that's not horror, which we were expecting.

19:16 Sam Raimi never wanted Venom in the film, the studio forced him. So in turn, he sabotaged Venom and the black suits inclusion. Which is why he hated the film to begin with.
I don't think he sabotaged it as much as he simply hadn't thought anything for that role, and in turn devalued everything else, which is why the Sandman conclusion was so oddly done. Even before a story/script is written, you have a compound of ideas and hopes of what you want your characters to accomplish and how to do it, even if rewriting changes some structure, you still have a goal. He's ready to film, it's the 11th hour, and the studio tells him "Venom or nothing". He was doomed.
@@shindean He went on record saying he didn't want to put Venom in the film and he "gave them what they wanted". Then he distanced himself from the film. He had other plans that Sony didn't care for
@@Alchimex_ i know, we know. After that dance scene, we are all trying to figure out what went wrong all those years ago.
Huh, interesting... Makes a lot of sense if that's the case.. From the way Venom and Eddie were introduced it's clear they were not well thought out. The climax of the movie seemed forced, as well as sandman's conclusion feeling out of place because of it... And cutting venom out, would make it a solid movie... Hell, I kinda wanna see a re-cut version now.
In my opinion, he should have sacrificed Sandman and cut him out of the movie to focus on Harry and Venom. To quote Doc Ock, "Sometimes, to do what's right we have to be steady, and give up the thing we want the most"
Hey, how in hell did JJJ still hire Peter who stole his son's fiancee ?
@@Good100 eventually in a story, Peter left because he got tired of JJ's Lies and Shit posts.

I don't think he knows that happened. Like, she gave the astronaut a note but I doubt it said

We as the audience know she left him for Peter, not the characters. Also, JJ's first reaction after his son was dumped was something like "I wonder if we can get the deposit back" or something about getting food. He hardly cares

Oh. YehxD
Considering people never settled for the color of that dress, I can believe that.
And according to the FAR-Left, being blind to colour is "racist", despite ignoring race being the predominant point of MLK Jr.'s "I Have A Dream" speech.
And according to the far-right, even vaguely suggesting that white people don’t face worse racism than black people is sacrilege to... something.
@@dustwarewolf5532 There is a difference in ignoring race and ignoring the fact that if you are not white you have a lot of disadvantages because of it.

YES!!! ...
I really like her performance. She made me smile.
Second that.
Yup.
Exactly. She actually feels like a real person unlike all the cardboard douchy characters in MCU.
Ha as a little kid like 6 or 7 I loved this movie! Why? Because it had my favorite character: Sandman, I even had a action figure of him. I loved the chacter because even as a lil kid I saw the good in him. I knew he loved his daughter and did it for her, so I saw him as awesome. I would carry around the doll of him and everything. I was a weird kid.. But it's a cute story.
Me too 😃
I don't like the Venom movie, but in retrospect, if Venom's voice was talking to Peter convincing or encouraging him to do his douchie things like dancing, flirting, and hitting, it would actually save those scenes a bit. Still terrible; but at least it actually feels like the symbiote is controlling or at least entising Peter's actions.
"You are definitely far from home."
I see what you did there...
The most unbelievable part of this entire movie is when Peter uses that little mini pocket in his jeans to hold the ring. No one has EVER used those pockets.

Cinemawins had an explanation for Peter kissing Gwen. He said that if people knew that Spider-Man had a loved one, people would go after them so the kiss was to make people think he didn’t
You'd think that he would've checked w/ Mary Jane first before immediately kissing somebody else.
That's just a fan theory not an explanation. An explanation can only come from those who worked on the movie like the writers, directors, producers. Not some random dude with a youtube channel that just copied another channel's format but with a positive twist.

I think there's actually a theory that Bruce Campbell's character is actually Mysterio since all of his jobs in the trilogy had something to do with show business in some way and Mysterio always wanted to become an actor in the comics. Also in the concept art for Spider-Man 4 there's a scene where Mysterio gets captured and unmasked and he looks a lot like Bruce Campbell.
Didn't Bruce Campbell play the narrator in the Spider-man games?
Pretty sure Raimi confirmed that Bruce Campbell would've been Mysterio in SM4
