I'm only 32 and I wish fishing was still like the old days. Really think fishing has changed too much .

Great video! Hank is one of my all time favorites...
No braid, flourocarbon, fancy electronics, big money rod and reels...and yet he's catching em!! Goes to prove, we don't need spend all the money on fishing equipment

All a matter of perspective, in ‘89 everything they were using was top of the line expensive stuff. The small flashers and retro trolling motors were “fancy electronics” there rods and reels were big money. They don’t look like it now cause it was 30 years ago and the technology and advancements in fishing have just taken off.

@@B1GE2 Bass fishing technology is leaps and bounds ahead of then in every conceivable way, yet, the overall competitive stringer weights haven't really changed in 40 yrs.
My dad has been tournament fishing since the early 1970s, I started bass fishing as a kid in the early 1980s - upper-teen pounds has always been competitive on average. The technology (imo) has definitely helped from a tech standpoint, but the intently studious know-how and fisherman instinct has gotten less sharp. I've watched and paid attention to it year after year, the aggregate of all the style changes and mindset isn't the same.
If anything, the only actual benefit of stringer weights has been Bass conservation, and the introduction of florida bass -- more large bass.
Side note, my dad fished a February tournament in '92, weighed five fish of 33.5 lbs. He came in 8th place. Bass conservation had been widely introduced in the late 80s, depending on region.

The original handmade squares came along in the early-mid 70s, and cost 3x what a nice modern crankbait costs. The first store shelf squares that I can remember seeing was about '90ish.
