Shocking DNA Results!! What Is My Ethnicity!!! Why Do I Look Asian!

- I took an ancestry.com DNA test and this is my reaction to finding out my ethnicity. The most common question I get is "What is your ethnicity?" I've been told I look part Asian, part Native American, part Filipino part, Russian and just plain mixed.
I honestly don't think I look a lot like my parent who are clearly just white and I have a very heavy epicanthic fold eye lid (asian eyes). I have no idea where my eyes come from (but I know I'm not adopted).
If anyone has a guess as to why I have asian looking eyes or what you think my ethnicity is I'd love to hear your thoughts. So please comment below!!!
Ethnicity Results
Europe West 31%
Ireland/Scotland/Wales 27%
Scandinavian 24%
Iberian Peninsula 11%
Lower Confidence Regions
Great Britain 2%
Europe East 2%
Caucuses 1%
Middle East 1%
Europe South 1%
So you don’t have to scrub through all the talking, the results are in the description.
Hi, there are Hispanics without Native American.
There are, after all, Hispanic is not a racial term but a geographical/cultural term.
Hispanic is something cultural of Spain, and in South America there are many white races, Indians, blacks and more ... In Spain white and also there are blondes or redheads with blue eyes. The majority of genes in Spain are of Celtic origin.
Well, only a part of Iberia was Celtic-speaking and Celts mixed with the Indo-European and non-Indo-European natives of Iberia who were settled there since before their arrival.
Christlyn Lee y’all should try gedmatch you can see more results. All you have to do is upload your raw dna from AncestryDNA.
You probably have Sami blood from Scandinavia, who are often mistaken for Asian because of their eyes but they are actually a very different and interesting race of people. They are the original inhabitants of Europe before the modern Europeans settled. Very mysterious people.
A agree. I live in Finland, to me she looks she could be Sami, coming from (the very) Northern Finland/Sweden/Norway/Russia. Btw Renee Zellweger has some Sami roots.
Could the Sami people be the ones who originated the I 1 haplogroup, also called the I-M253 haplogroup? It is the only Y-DNA haplogroup to originate in Northern/Western Europe. My heritage is from Ireland/Scotland and I am in the I-1 haplogroup. Only 10% of Irish have it. Very cool if the Sami people are also in that group!
Cool
No because Sami have Mongol admixture
Why you don't want to be white? Why not being white is cool? Are you not comfortable with your heritage?
At first glance you looked straight up Saami indigenous peoples of Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia. Part of the region originated from a an ancient Asian ancestor. Saami live in TeePees are nomadic reindeer herders and can look very Native American.
They are not Asian at all actually. Their eyes is a different genetic trait than that seen in East Asia.
Yeah, that "an ancestor" is probably the one we consider as the original Turk. Our homeland is Siberia, Altai mountains, mostly Ötüken. And they also migrated to Americas as far as i know. So, it means all the people on the planet carries Turkic dna? I feel confused. Gramps what were you doing exactly at the earlier times? 😵😵😵
Maaan, so, does this make us the connector of the planet? 😱
Oh my, this is news for me. Never heard of Saami.
@ Dank Memer. It's possible that Sami people are part of the Asian ancestry that is the same as Inuit people of northern Canada and Native Americans. These commercial DNA tests only report ancestries that go back 200 - 300 years. The way that migration worked 50,000 years ago, great bands of people either migrated north from Africa into what we now call northern Europe (as the term Europe wasn't even established at that time), and some traveled east into what is now called Asia. Migrating north into north eastern Russia. Some crossing the Bearing strait into N.America and some not crossing the strait but looping around and into the Northern countries of Europe and settling into the Norway, Sweden and Finland about 50,000 years ago. During this time, evolution or mutations took over resulting in blond hair and blue eyes due to the cold climate and lack of sun in the winter months. Diet also plays a major role in this. If you do a calculation of how many ancestries that an individual person would have in the last 500 years, that total would result to roughly a million ancestors based on a 25yr. generation cycle. So these percentages that these DNA tests are presenting are roughly a dozen generations.
the Sami are Native-American ~ancient😈
“The 7% Northeast Asian component reflects mixing with native Siberian populations, particularly the reindeer-herding Saami people of far northern Scandinavia.” I think your Look was influenced by your Scandinavian ancestry.
Your eyelid mystery comes from Scandinavia x
Daniela Gale Exactly
The general look in Nordic countries are
blond hair blue eyes fair skin in all of them. Sweden, Finland,Norway, Denmark and Iceland.
There are always exceptions, but exceptions make the rule stronger.
Definetly there are different types of ppl in every country also in US.
Epicanthic fold are found in Europeans like Scandinavians, Hungarians, Samis, Irish and Poles.
Correction: Can be found in all regions of Europe. Even Southern Europeans since there is a connection with the Turkics, Anatolians, etc
Scandinavian probably, the Sami people of that region. The eyes I mean.
Bejeezus Lainez, yes,Lapland :-)
You may want to look up at that map and then find out where Finland is.
No, it would show up as Sami/Lapplander then, ethnic Scandinavians are genetically very distant from Samis and they wouldn't be in the same category.
Yep. Sami ancestry is my thought too. They're an indigenous ethnic minority in Northern Scandinavia, Finland and far northwestern Russia. They have eyes like yours, and broad cheek-bones like yours too. You look like a brown-haired version of Sofia Jannok (a well-known Swedish Sami pop singer).
If you said your ancestry was a mix of Sami and Spanish or Portuguese, that would be totally believable. That would be a really weird ancestry to have in Europe, because Iberia is in the far southwest and Sami country is in the far northeast. So Sami people and people from the Iberian peninsula would almost never have had occasion to meet and marry people from the other region, but that's totally possible in the US because we're so mixed.
I don't know if any of the DNA testing companies break out Sami ancestry separately from Scandinavian ancestry in general. But I doubt it; they're usually not that specific.
Heres a picture of a Finnish boy.

Your facial bone structure reminds me of Queen Elizabeth and her daughter. I’m fascinated with this DNA thing and want to do it with may family. So interesting to see if what we’ve been told about our heritage can be confirmed!
You look Mongolian/Siberian.

Hi Christlyn. I think most people's comments here about the Sami resemblance is on track. Before you even revealed your results, I thought that if Scandinavia showed up, that would be the answer to your eyes :-)
I was hoping it would for you so you'd have a pretty strong answer for your look. Research all you can on Sami peoples... I think that will give you some clarity. I'm 2% Scandinavian btw :-)
You have that look like Renee Zellweger. You may have descended from an ancient European native group of indigenous people called the Samis in Europe. Renee has Sami descent from her mother. Renee's eyes are also hooded, well..were hooded, before she had plastic surgery.
She has Sami roots.
Scandinavians have hooded eyes (like Inuits). My husband is full-blooded Norwegian. He had to have his eyelids lifted (cosmetic surgery) because they were obscuring his vision.
Immediately I thought a strong percentage of Native American (you look very Native American) But when it came up with Scandinavian I thought wow! You do actually look like my friends wife who is Swedish. X
scandinavian looks- think Björk
Even Björk is unusual for Iceland or Scandinavia. Among the ethnic population I mean.
Come to Scandinavia and see what they look like.
Hey girl. You are one of us!
You look Scandinavian ❤️Many over here have likeness to you. My self to start with 🤗
Greetings and love from Scandinavia.
Actually I totally agree also with the Sami possibility. So maybe having both Welsh and Scandinavian have led to you having your facial features that look Asian.
im a large amount welsh and finn and i look the least asian possible
Not 'weird', but 'Exotic'. You should do also your mT (mitochondrial) DNA haplogroup test, as well.
why on so many of these dna result videos people dont want to be white and are disapointed with there european ancestry????
@@johnmcallister5932 your ancestors will confront you when your dead
@@johnmcallister5932 The education system in this country has really done a number on you. Have you forgotten the greatness of Western Civilization from music to medicine to technology and everything in between? Bach? Beethoven? Einstein? Tesla, even?? Stop buying into the crap.
@@johnmcallister5932 Not sure if you are just really really really dumb...or just a poor attempt at a troll.
@@johnmcallister5932 Dude you can't even spell right for one and for two Europeans are actually interesting as are all cultures. Everyone is interesting. If you did any research you'd realize that there's a lot of history in Europe....Paganism being one very interesting thing. But I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinions..
John McAllister you have been brainwashed by the liberalism that is so prevalent worldwide. Get over yourself not wanting to be white. What can you do about it? And not all whites were involved with slavery. Your outlook is very narrow. Slavery existed throughout the world; in fact, it’s still going on, especially throughout Africa. So get over yourself.
After watching this video.. I want to make one point about your video results: most companies only go back a little more than 500 years so most things that occurred before that won’t show up
I have the same mix as you. Just percentage difference. My family live in South Carolina and North Carolina. Georgia. We are really mixed up. What fun.
My family has double eyelids and we’re 50%Finnish. And proud of it!
cool! thanks for sharing!
Just a thought, as I knew a Scandanavia gal from here with a slightly epicanthic fold eye lid trait, which she explained to me as from the native Sami people living in the far north of Scandanavia, which blends into the more European eye lid shape as you go south into Norway or Sweden. The Sami look more like the native people from Alaska or Northern Canada, perhaps this helps?
The Scandinavians also explored and mixed around the Mediterranean sea as well as England, Scotland, and Ireland, so the low confidence regions make sense.
Some things show up on 23andMe that don’t show up on Ancestry
I first thought you were part Asian but after I search for Sami people I can only see you as a Sami one! Cause tbh you mostly look like them!
I haven't finished watching this video but that husband answer those initial questions perfectly.
DNA is amazing. It can throw all manner of traits.
I’m Mexican and have a lot of the same ethnicities you have, (Iberian, Scandinavia,Great Brittain, Irish) as well as Native American. I too am light with similar eyes like you. My daughter is a red head as well.
Linda Gurule hethats because Mexico was conquered by the Spaniards and other European invaders and the native is originally what the Mexicans were before they started conquering them and mixing them..
She pretty much looks like the Sami people you see in Sweden and Norway. I guarantee you she has a full blooded Sami a few generations away. Possibly a great grandparent. And she's got a good bit of celtic blood, also. Celt and Laplander Blood. You can't go wrong. Certainly not "lame"!
Very interesting results and info about Epicanthic fold eyelids. So you are the 3% of Caucasians with it. I too would have betted some Asian. You are beautiful, with funny supportive partner.
"So, I look weird, right?" Me, your SO, and probably everyone watching this started shaking their head. You look gorgeous!
Scandinavian. Not native american.
@si Markeyan I am thinking the former land bridge Siberia/Alaska. Eskimo or Inuit people are Native Americans.
You are so fun to watch
What is your ancestry name? I’d love to see if we are related based on your results and where your family settled. :)
Well, at least you can go around and educate some people on how narrow their vision of humanity is. Even the people America likes to consider "white" or European or specific European countries are way more varied than they think. It's interesting that being in America people's first thought would be "you're mixed" because you have all of the world's populations melting basically - but usually partial and specific groups of those populations came to America, so one tends to think *that* is what people from a certain place look like, but it is far from truth. Truth is over the world we're more "blended" in a continuum than "mixed".
Don't feel bad. Those eyes run in my family too. I'm always asked.....are you Asian ? No. Are you Indian ? No. What are you ? Lol. Its true girl know exactly how you feel lol
What's so boring about being fully European? I love the woman's accent. She's pretty.
Im from Norway.. I think quite alot of "white" norwegians have asian eyes. The Saami norwegians very often have asian eyes. And there was intercultural marriages and relations (especially before the christian invasion). We have been neighbours for thousands of years already. (Swedes can have asian eyes too, but I dont find them as common in Denmark though. So this could maybe be an indicator that the eyes come from Saami heritage, since Denmark is a bit cut off from Lappland. I guess Finnish people also have asian eyes quite often when i think about it). I wonder if Saami is its own group/category in these dna tests.....
I have the same eyes like you. My ancestral line is like yours. Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Scandinavia, Western Europe.
Me too. People asked me if I was part Chinese. I am all European. I look more European than you do. Only my eyes look different.
Probably a bit late for a comment on this but with regard to the looking Asian and shown as having Spanish routes. Here in UK I had a neighbour ( young woman) who was Spanish..but looked quite " chinese ish " I think that was likely to be a link to South American natives as people with that mixed heritage often returned to Spain. May not show it on your chart but seems too much of a coincidence to me.
Native Americans are descendants of Siberians who migrated from Siberia to the Americas via Alaska thousands of years ago. Furthermore you could be part Finnish or have Hunnic blood due to the Asiatic invasions in Eastern Europe. Congratulations on your DNA ethnicity results!!!
730 Mŷ they have no relations what's so ever it's just a theory not fact. A whole race of people can't just magically appear in north and South America.
princeSS It took thousands of years for the Siberians to migrate from Siberia to different parts of the Americas. Furthermore DNA doesn't lie regarding the origins of the Native Americans. Also the were Polynesian traders whom migrated to South America and mixed with the Native Americans. Solutreans mixed with some Native Americans in some part of North America. Do the research!
no no no no
these people are.....from north/south east and south asia
they are from there
but stopped by in alaska..before proceed to the Americas!!
blue moon virgo Research the facts please!!!!!
if i have reached this.conclusion is because i know very well what i m on about!!
now..i suggest that"YOUR" research the facts better and start by having a NEW IDEA" about who are the so called" aboriginals" ou "native" americas.where they came from..i guess that your need to not just form another idea about tis topic..but also open up your mind to NEW POSSIBILITIES.
your are just migrantes to the new Americas....your came from Asia a long time ago. off course
Europe and the Americas..were once a single unique CONTINENT!
Ancestry DNA recently sent me an update on my results.
Here’s what it says now:
England, Wales & Northern Europe: 80%
Ireland & Scotland: 8%
Germanic Europe: 8%
your eyes and

You look black ..
@@bingbong2697 Maybe the blacks were mixed with what she is mixed with, there are Africans with Asian Ancestry. czcams.com/video/IMFeZ6zhVUI/video.html
wonder what the updates did to these results?
hey guys, the countries listed in those regions are showing you today's names for places where people with that blood lived in the past
hope this helps
My family came from the deep south and coastal regions of Ga and SC. I'm 98% European. I too was hoping for something really exotic to pop up but I was surprised how Northern European I was since I have brown hair and brown eyes..
Too many people on here seem disappointed by their DNA results. Be proud of who you are and where you come from. Being from Europe is ethnically diverse and "exotic".. I'm Mediterranean and Eastern European and people tell me I look exotic all the time lol
Christlyn Lee The native people from the Scandinavian peninsula are a group of different "tribes" that refer to themselves as Sami. They look very Asian. Their history is very interesting, similar to the Native American people and over the centuries they have mixed with the white Nordic people.
Scandinavian. Many people in various Scandinavian countries have almond shaped eyes, also high cheek bones. My husband who's entirely North Western European, including some Scandinavian, has almond shaped eyes and high cheek bones.
I was thinking Sami also and Spanish. but she is very pretty and unique The Tuatha de Dannon mixed with the Norse in Ireland.
You do really look Swedish/Saami. I am about 30-45% Scandinavian and a lot of my ancestors look similar to you.
@Lars Liam Vilhelm facts scandinavians are indo-european and she prob has some nomad ancestry that settled to nothern scandinavia
A lot of Russians look like you, I don't think your looks are such a mistery
@@lonely6694 come on most of central asian Russians and Siberians look like here
@@chakir348 Russians form Siberia and in Central Asia don't look like her, don't talk nonsense
You're definitely Scandinavian. Probably more Norway. Your eyes remind me of friends from there.
Epicanthic folds are also common in Scandinavian regions
You should upload your DNA data to My Heritage, MyTrueAncestry, and GedMatch. GedMatch is better for smaller amounts of Native, in my opinion. I know people who have documented Native ancestry, but it does not show up on some DNA databases. If you upload to the sights I mentioned, which is free or nominal fee, you may be able to locate DNA you are looking for. Ancestry is the best for actually finding family, but ethnicity requires multiple tests honestly, as all databases are biased by the customer base. BTW, I am ethnically German and Dutch, but going to school in a Southern town, I was called racist names because of my similar eyes and black hair. Good luck
Man how many people have you told "I'm just European" and they're like WHO LIED TO YOU? I KNOW WHAT YOUR ANCESTRY IS
You have same natione blood in you from scandinavia :). Me too..
Have you gotten a update from ancestry. We did like a moth ago

Before I even listened to your video my first guess is a combination of both Native American and Asian. Also, your guy is right....your look is very exotic. Be very proud of it. You're gorgeous. Congrats on finding out who you are.
kokobagginz Thanks so much!😁
kokobagginz elle n’est pas du tout des îles!!! J’aurai dis « origines chinoises » mais pas du tout européenne!!!
I am a French Hugenot also, a Bellamy. The church in Charleston is beautiful.
He looks like a Cuban American actor, Gabriel Rossi😍
Europeans vary so much. In Italy the Etruscans looked Asian (check them out on Google and you will see, but the original statues not American drawings), but at the same time there were the Ligures, for instance, and they looked Western and they had red hair.
Every time someone doesn’t know me they say “ you’re Asian right?”
I’m thinking the Sami people of Northern Scandinavia. They look very much like you do. 😊
An ex-girlfriend was a tall, blonde, blue-eyed northern European but she has a more pronounced epicanthal fold. As does one daughter. Her family was in the South for hundreds of years so I don't think there was any chance of an Asian ancestor.
What are her parents? Was she adopted?
It's ok to be white.
I've got the eye thing going on and am 100% European made up from English, Scot, Irish, Welsh, Swede/Dane and Finn, percentages descending in that order.
My initial thought to your query on your ethnic identity was 'Finn'. The Delaware Indians referred to the colonial Finns that settled in the colony of New Sweden as "those most like us". They were known to practice necromancy even though they were Christian. Vikings didn't mess with the Finns.
Whatever you are, I think you are beautiful..
Naitive Scandinavian look
Maybe something from eskimoo as well?
eskimoo have Asian eyes.
My Grandpa, Brother and 3 cousins have eyes like you do. And they do not have any Asian. lol While I have dark hair and eyes. I tan super dark. People always assume I am Mexican, American Indian or any of the darker-skinned nationalities. Well. I am 100% European. lol I am 63% Scandinavian. My Grandpa was born in Sweden...but 63%? LOL The rest is UK, Scotland, Ireland and Germany. People always assume the wrong things at times. I have fooled a lot of people. Including my kids who are adults now. They are shocked. :D
I have the same eye shape. High cheek bones. I'm Scandinavian and Eastern European/white. Hungarian also.
Add Irish and French and German. I'm very distinctly New England American.
Some of us just don't translate the same way.
I agree with some comments on this video. I do have a lot of Sami friends. You kind of look like some of them. And my own ancestors is from Finland and do share the same kind of DNA with the Sami people. My Finnish ancestors did go to Norway. And a lot of Norwegians did go to America. So I am not surprised by your result :)
btw: both Sami people and the Finnish people that lived in the Swedish and the Norwegian woods is from siberian origin. But the DNA test don't go so far back. So you are not THAT white :)
U honestly look 100 percent Scandinavian
Not at all.
"Im only 31% European" No girl you're 100% 😂😂😂
i'd reccomend the 23 and me is more accurate...
The eyes are or could possibly be derived from the Sami People or possibly Greenland?
Wow, I’m a quarter Asian and I look more British/Northern European than you. I thought you were going to have some Korean. People always tell me well you don’t look Asian. I did 23andme last summer. I know I had Ilocano but a surprised to be part Chinese also. Cool results.
I'm HALF asian but don't look asian at all...took my looks almost completely from my Italian dad (however, my son has strong Asian look, can even pass as full Asian if not for curly hair)
From the map it shows you have some northern ancestry Scandinavia, which links to northern Asian gene like Siberians--hence your 'Asian looks'
change undergo further tests using different dna company
i tried 23 and me and my heritage. and i tried another one..results is pending.
My parents from small towns in Poland. So no doubt no Native American in our line. Yet I was not surprised it showed Native American because the Poles, Phillipinos and American Indians descended from the same ancient Asian line. My white features are from many other Europeans added.
I have to respond! You may be shocked also. You look closely like the people of Uzbeckistan. And if your hair color is natural as on your video then you fit right in with what I said. When people came to California from Middle East they brought their house maid with them. You look exactly like this house maid. Only one thing different is she had olive skin. Her hair was naturally in color as yours appear in this video. There is also a woman from a nomatic tribe in Syberia whom you match up to also. It is said that europeans once lived in Syberia, which this trait appears in you and the two regions of which i've named. You are Beautiful!
I think you need to test with Tribes. 2nd opinion. Because if your Finn, you are trace mixed.
What?
Norway is full of people with eyes like yours... Even those who aren't Sami... The cheekbones as well...
I had native American in my results and I was surprised
Yeah, you could be Saami (Lapplander) from the Scandanavian or you could be Indian- North America. Most tribal councils discourage their members from participating so it's probably hard for you to get a match.
The other interesting note about Iberian, Hugenot etc is that this correlates to marrano or CryptoJew. Many Sephardim were forced to convert to Catholicism around 1492 in Spain. Those who didn't were expelled. Others who pretended to convert but were caught by the Inquisition were killed.
Many marranos settled the Americas including North America. ie many Plantation owners, slave traders and probably artisans were marranos. So you are probably part Jewish, like a lot of Latin Americans.
better do My heritage test also autosomal test you have a different outcome i promise!
I kind of look like you guys and your siblings!
I’m literally half white/Asian. But your eyes look more Asian than mine! Lol.
I'm surprised by your results, but I'm not. It actually kinda makes sense. I'm Black (Afro-American) and I'm 3% Norwegian. Like where did that come from? Ancestry DNA was the only one to mention Scandinavian blood.
The Vikings conquered and settled in Normandy France. So there could be Sami in me as well, also my mtdna is v from my Greek mother, however I would suggest you go to the American records or Canadian if pertinent for your ancestors race.
David Bromstad from HGTV has the same eyes. His lineage is Swedish and Norwegian so he is probably also a descendent of the Sami people.
I always thought he was mixed with Chinese. I would have never guessed he was swedish and norwegian.
Before I looked I thought Eastern European with Mongolian included ie off the steppes and maybe some Native American thrown in.
My family member has also quite exotic, asian-like eyes although we're native europeans. It probably comes from our Finnic ancestors. It could be the same with you since Finnic people (such as Sámi) live in Scandinavia.
My mum is south italian and has kinda asian eyes and so do a lot of them like paulie d and some are wierder than that !
I'm swedish, I have epicanthic folds. I did a DNA test and I'm 98% Scandinavian and less than 2% central European. From what I know I have no (at least close) evidence of me having any Sami in me. The migration routes also don't show any migration to Sweden from North, my ancestors came from the south. I guess it's just how it is and I've heard epicanthic folds came in evolution to protect eyes from light like the sun or snow blindness but I don't really know 🤔 but if that's the case then it wouldn't be weird for some of us from the north to develop epicanthic folds, right? 🤔✋🏼😭
Cute doggy on the bed 😁
The husband looks like Gary Dell’Abate (baba booey). anyone else?
My mom was full native and it didn’t show up in my dna from ancestry. Natives don’t typically submit dna so it doesn’t show up
So what showed up?
