Serra de Tramuntana Mountains (Mallorca) - Cycling Inspiration & Education

- Forming the backbone of the northwest of Mallorca, the Serra de Tramuntana mountains are an absolute must to explore if you're visiting the island. Approximately 90 kilometres in length and running through more that 20 municipalities the Tramuntana are actually pretty hard to miss and being a UNESCO World Heritage Site only adds to their allure.
Starting in the picturesque Port de Pollença I was keen to find out more. The island is such a hotspot for professional and amateur cyclists seeking winter sun, continually growing in popularity since I first visited over 20 years ago.
To be honest I wasn't too sure where I'd end up, but then that's half the fun isn't it? What I did know is that we'd be tackling Mallorca's highest road pass, up to the Túnel de Monnàber that cuts through the famous Puig Major (Mallorca's highest peak at 1,445m) followed by the longest descent on the island, 14 kilometres of sweeping bends and smooth road all the way down to Soller. Anything more than that is a bonus, so let's ride!
Start: Port de Pollença
Length: 82.7 km
Highest point: 850m
Start Elevation: 0m
Elevation Gain: 1,536m
Max Gradient 10%
Ridden in January

Hah! I rode some of those exact roads last October 9, including Sa Calobra! Epic ride, especially at 74 years!
Can we take a moment and appreciate the camera work and editting done in this video, this was beautiful.
Just rode part of the same route today (1st time), from Alcudia to Port de Pollenca to Tunel de Monnaber, now I'm sitting in my hotel in Alcudia and watched this video again. What a feeling! Now I can recognize where many shots in the video are made! It's like your dream finally come true. I don't know how I can be happier than this! Thanks Mike!
Gott love my magical Mallorca!!
Love this video! Just got back from Mallorca and did the Ma-10 but in reverse, having got, with friends, a bus transfer out to Valldemossa and then returned back to Pollensa where we were staying. Also enjoyed Cap de Formentor and also Sa Calobra. First cycle trip to Mallorca and amazing!! 🚴♂️⛰🇪🇸
Is the MA10 and other main roads really as lightly trafficked as Mike’s video portrays? I’m going over Oct ‘24 and hope that this is the case. Thx mate
Just got back from Mallorca. I did the Mallorca 312. Absolutely the best cycling event I have ridden in. Mallorca is a must for a cyclist. Love your videos, Mike.
It is sunday morning and I am enjoying my weekly dose of the Col Collective before I head out on my own less epic ride. This one was a fresh change of pace and as always a wonderful production with truly spectacular scenery.
Once again, thanks for making these videos and please keep them coming :-)
I just got back from a cycling holiday in Mallorca. It's every bit as wonderful as this awesome video suggests.
Just got back home from Mallorca. What an epic cycling place! You picked nice route and Port de Valldemossa is a hidden jewel.
I've been to Mallorca a few times now, it's always such a special place. I've done Alps, Pyrenees, Germany, Northern Italy, crossed all of France, all of Spain, and even though there are amazing places, I always dream of returning to Mallorca.
Whoa!! Fantastic to hear about your exploring!!!!! Some great places you visited!! 👊🏼
Even tough I enjoyed every single video you did, this one is outstanding! Love it! Keep it up, "Inspiration" is an understatement. :) BR
Same here! 👍😉
Another great video Mike. Always look forward to seeing the next one.
Thx Mike!!. Wishing to finish my recover and carry on cycling. The @thecolcollective videos keep me high motivated!
Thanks for sharing a bit more of Mallorca. Nicely shot as always.
Great video, thanks. Brought back memories of my ride from Andratx to Port de Pollenca a couple of weeks ago. It's a beautiful ride c.110km and 2500m of climbing - highly recommended.
This brings back great memories of 2009 and the fantastic roads over on Mallorca.
Thanks for showing us that route, Mike.
Another awesome video...
loved the video Mike, thank you for sharing that route. It brings back beautiful memories of my first trip to Mallorca, riding solo last summer. It was 40 degrees, being from Australia, it is normal, but the scarcity of water is something you can't underestimate and knowing where to find it is a very good thing! The motivation to return is quite high now!
Along with GCN, both the best channel. Congrats
Killing it as usual Mike....never gets old...just better
Lugar hermoso para practicar ciclismo....
Felicitaciones
Awesome video! I can’t just get enough of the tramuntana 😊
As allways. Adelight to watch.. Afeast of recognition.Malorca is a true paradise to ride in.
I got to give you Mike a high five 🖑 for using front a tail lights! 😎.
As a loner rider most of the time lights are my friends in the day time as well. Stay safe is number one priority. ..look like a pro last. 😆.
Amazing video!
I totally loved this video! One of the best in Col Collective. It seems this route is one of my top priorities for a winter break with my road bike. Keep up the wonderful work. Your videos keep me highly motivated. Greetings from Poland 😉👍
Beautiful😍❣️
Just awesome..Thanks Mike...!! Great shooting as always.. if i couldn't motivate myself to ride my Bike...just look Mikes Vids for a few minutes and I'll jump on my saddle to ride through any weather conditions :)
Holy crap. What a beautiful video.
Great video Mike... Mallorca is a great place for cycling it’s in the top of my list.
Great video Mike... definitely Mallorca is one of the best places in Europe for cycling!
I didn't realize you guys shot this. What a great week we had there!!
Wow love the video that feels like there's no one else around...
Did that ride back in 2009.
I miss not having to share the road with cars almost clipping me multiple times per ride.
I wonder how it is nowadays almost 6 years later...
Those blue pants is no go!
Incredible Mike. Incredible.
Nice video. It is my training place everyyear.
Beautiful video!
Stunning!, Thankyou :)
Beautiful vlog.
i love your videos! -from Philippines
Congratulations from mexico city.
Great life style.
Bike is a world, it's a life style.
You have to come to Portugal Mike! Here are some beautiful Mountains to ride ;) Love your videos
Very nice video! Port de Valldemossa is one of my absolute favorites. Total calm in the early morning. Don‘t forget to stop at the supermarket/bakery when you‘re in Deià. It‘s run by two former pros.
Awesome video as always! I would love to see some of your rides on an IMAX Screen, cinematography is 1st rate with the perfect music score to go along and make you want to ride.
Some great roads down to hidden 'Cala' just like the last one. The road up from the restaurant where the attempted kidnap scene was filmed in 'the night manager' is epic, as is the seafood restaurant at the bottom. Make the effort to find it and ride it....
Another great film, thanks.
MUY BELLO ESCENARIO PARA EL MEJOR DE LOS DEPORTES PRONTO ESTARE POR ALLI
Mike, you should come visit Portugal with your crew. Lot's of beautiful climbs and astonishing views.
Great video Mike
Beautifully made video, you should come back and finish the ride down to Andratx and St Elm, just as good, if not better than the northern MA-10 and you will more or less have it to yourself most of the time.
Love your videos. Ever considered doing Great Dun Fell?
Circuit de paradie sur terre A+
Hi Mike , i hope you enjoy the peferct mallorca tarmac as we enjoy it before 2 weeks ago . Best regards from cologne
It was awesome! Hope you had a great time too!
Made me think of Waynes World with that product placement at the beginning !! lol
Super video . Do not you go to Slovenia with Rogla?
I have one goal in mind to ride with you next summer in the alps.I will book a tour or two.I am training hard and cycle everyday to work 30km.See you next Summer mate.
Wonderful video .... again! I love it. When was it filmed and what were the temperatures?
Thank you, Mike and all the best!
David Yamaha Hi David. We filmed it at the end of January. In the sun it was a pleasant 15 degrees C. Out of the sun and in the morning and late afternoon quite a bit colder. All the best. Mike
Mike could you please tell me the music name or artist that starts off this video please. And by the way it is a winderful video as usual.
Lovely vid, very well shot. A shame though that you didn't go further South to Banyalbufar and Estellencs as this is the most beautiful part of the MA10. Also some dodgy pronunciation (eg. Its' PUSH Mayor), but we'll let that slide! Port de Valdemossa is like an undiscovered mini Sa Calobra.
Beautiful video, Mike. What/who is the piano music near the end of the video?
I’m glad you enjoyed the music Bob! I made this video many years ago. I’ll have to see if I can find that music again on the hard drive where the footage is stored. The hunt begins! 😅
Beautiful Mike. Any plans to add Mallorca to your guided tours?
Hi Larry, happy you enjoyed the vid! At the mo we're mainly basing our cycling tours in the French Pyrénées. We've got one week in the Italian Alps and Dolomites this summer so never say never, we may branch out and add Mallorca to the calendar ;-)
+The Col Collective if any time you want to make any kind of cycling camp in Mallorca, please contact me for any help or collaboration. Find me at www.gravelmallorca.com
Cheers!
Will do!
Thanks for the video. Is the loop on the video less busy due to the time of the year you shot the video or quieter in general?
Hi Brad, it's quieter due to the time of year. We rode this at the end of January. March, April, May and beyond can be much busier. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching. Mike
Great video! Whats the song at 6:15 ??
Mike, mike, mike... what a stunning video! Me and my brother did Sa Calobra when we're at Mallorca a couple of weeks ago and we loved your video about it. But this? This is awesome. We also conquered a couple of this mountains... but we started in Port de Soller, cycled over Coll del Soller, Coll del Honor, Coll del Sa Batalla, then Sa Calobra and Gorg Blau - www.strava.com/activities/1520409570 The route to Deija and Valdemossa we did another day in that holiday. Man, this video gave me goosebumps... thanks!! Keep up the good work!
Hi Guys, is this ride on Komoot? I am going to Mallorca next week and would love to do this!!
we come back 25.4.2019
Climbs I suggest to mike: laghi di cancano (Bormio), Tre Cime di Lavaredo (from Auronzo), Splugenpass (chiavenna), Gransasso d'italia.
Please do them one day!
roberto paludi Thanks Roberto! Tre Cima is coming soon! I hope we can do the others someday 👍🏻
What BB have you got there with your info crank?
Wow this is a cyclist's dream.
👍
Hi Mike, can I download the activities in GPX file?
Where abouts exactly is that water fountain? Can't find on street view.
If you have the choice, I would never choose to ride up the Coll de Femenia as it's quite boring (great to descend though). From Port de Pollença it's better to take the quiet lanes along the flats to Caimari and then climb the Coll de sa Batalla up to the gas station. it's one of my favourite climbs in the world.
Rhys Howell : The Col de sa Batalla is also a very nice descent. . . and then past the terraced olive groves.
Spain still cold?
Can you make on CZcams the Etna?
Hopefully one day William!
The Col Collective thanks!!
Soller has the best oranges
Where are you now?
Hi Mike, 🚴
Thx for all the videos. Very interesting and very well presented. Always have a nice setup... But you look better in Black/Yellow colours 👈 This just doesn't suit you. 😉
5:13 all roads lead to Palma
The MA10 is indeed cycling mecca.
What about other road users
You made the roads look empty. Even in off-season they are anything but.
Plant Fuelled We were there at the end of January and it was super quiet. Much after that it starts to get busier.
I was there in mid-late February and Puig Major from Soller was very busy at the weekends, Sa Calobra was quiet on week days though.
Fairly empty in Feb when I was riding on the featured roads. What traffic there is will be courteous to cyclists.

28 avril: on aurait dû escalader Sa Calobra aujourd'hui...
Looking a bit overdressed?
No his not overdressed.Mallorca in winter is between 10 and 15 degrees only. The sun may be out but it's chilly and remember his climbing to almost 2000 ft.
