"Demons to some, angels to others" is such a great, on the point sentence for a Cenobite to describe them
Addicts are demons to some angels to others...the movie is about addiction and the faces of it are the cenobites aka the addicts and when you are a addict your hooked pun intended
"Oh please no tears, it's a waste of good suffering."
They _say_ it's "hard to solve"; yet, throughout the franchise nearly everyone who encounters the 'puzzle box' manages to quickly solve it, under extreme duress --multiple times! 😆
The movies are about people who solve them though to be fair 😂
I wanna see a movie about the people that tried, gave up, and continued with their lives not realising what they avoided.Haha
@@filmcomicsexplainedha! yes! A plucky, heart warming tale of those who've narrowly avoided that "good suffering" by the skin of the chatterer's teeth.
I always thought of it as hard to close. The thing wants to be opened, you barely touch it and it just starts solving itself.
It is not hands that summon them. It is desire.
Hellraiser is a horror classic that has beyond stood the test of time plus this the opening of your movie with the first appearance of pinhead and his cenobites is beyond iconic. So happy to see you reviewing this movie and on a Friday.
Big up American education! Obviously still THE finest...I see a marvelous career as an editor in your future, young Wordsworth!
@@barrymaaslow3480 thanks !
Fun fact: the female cenobyte was originally named deepthroat but was later erased due to the sexual meaning it represented
I dunno...the sexual meaning behind it would've fit perfectly. A shame they changed it.
yup. But they kept the throat vagina, which is nice
It did seem weird that the only female of the group didn't have a similar name to the others and was literally called "The Female"
that's fucking awesome lol
To be fair, all of the Cenobites' names were inside jokes among the cast and crew. Clive Barker probably never intended for them to have individual names and identities. From my understanding, he actually despises the name "Pinhead" in particular, and wrote into the Scarlet Gospels (his sequel to Hellbound Heart) that the cenobite reserves special cruelties for anyone who dares utter that name in his presence.
Talk about a franchise that started out with such great possibilities but ended up derailing like a train derailing into a fuel tank farm.
Because they took a unique and truly demented horror film and took one part of it (Pinhead) and then turned him into a standard slasher villain while letting everything unique fall by the wayside.
Agreed in the early films pinhead is more unique intelligent and refined in a way definitely more lawful evil but in the later films he just degrades and becomes a sadistic asshole and very generic serial killer vibes :(
@@sakurakitsunestar they did the same thing to Candyman. Took a unique horror villain and turned them into a slasher villain. Such a waste of potential.
@@clintmcbride7830 They went from a neutral party in Kirsty's conflict with Frank and Julia to generic evil demons.
@@Xehanort10 yep, they should have stayed neutral entities withing the conflicts of mortals and their desires of the flesh. Expanded out from purely lust into other desires, greed, gluttony, etc. Imagine a cenobite who was originally a gluttonous human who's was over fed to the point of it's stomach rupturing out and dangling bits of flesh and half digested food, who's jaw had been forced open to tearing off with a limp tongue just hanging there. Maybe Pinhead stayed around through all the conflicts as a hell priest with the other cenobites appearing relating to the desires of the characters of the films.
Clive Barker has always been able to scare me quite well.
Also it blew my mind that Garak is a main character in the movie when I first found out.
Oh my god. Thanks. I could not figure out where I'd seen him before.
"We have such sights to show you."
When blue lightning and blue/pink light ball particle effects were the best visuals on the scene 😍🔥 it always reminds me of aliens or terminator 2 and that kid-like awe
The first two Hellraisers are definitely some of my favorite horror movies. I even finally got my fiancé to watch them around Halloween, and he ended up loving them as well.
You had to show it to HIM? What kind of guy never watched Hellraiser???
@@nevercommentnotevenonce9334 He was never that big into horror movies until he and I started dating, he's gotten more into them now.
Nyat has such sights to show you.
Such Exquisite sights indeed lol
Lol your comment needs more likes.
@@filmcomicsexplained it is why I subscribed to your channel.
Your pain will be legendary, even in hell.
Being from the UK, Hellraiser is a cult classic, with 1 & 2 being my favourite 80s horror movies of all time
The cenobites literally go down in history as the coldest and most devious movie villains. They display no morale compass hold no sympathy for their victims and they do not discriminate against their victims. Such great and well thought out antagonist ❤️
It was filmed around the corner from my Dad’s house in Dollis Hill.
One of my favourite horror films of all time was filmed a few streets over from me when I was a kid.
Clive Barker is one of the true masters of horror. A force of nature in his prime.
Hellraiser is literally the only film that has made me feel fear as an adult.
Thankfully, it was filmed in the right time. Had it been filmed today it would have been totally ruined by CGI and other problems within the film industry nowadays.
The new one wasn’t that bad idt hellraiser is scary period tho
@@napoleansolo5849 The new one is woke trash. The cenobites are all women because you know, that's the trend these days. Gender swapping established characters.
@@napoleansolo5849the new one was amazing all around, even for those who know nothing of the priors.
It would be better
I'm in my 40's and Still would not touch one of those cool puzzle boxes. I know it's fake but it's so well done that I wouldn't want to chance it.
I will never forget resurrecting Frank and the horror of feeding victims to this monstrosity that escaped hell.
I love how in the original movie,The Cenobites are actually reasonable and calm people who just want a job finished. Then it just turned into chaos after that.
I really enjoyed the first two movies. The third movie was okay but the following sequels just didn't really connect with me as a fan.
I think 4 is a bit underrated and I don't mind uh, 6? The one where Ashley Lawrence came back.
@@specialnewb9821 I liked the 4th one, it sort of gives closure, and what's not to like about Hellraiser in SPAAAAAAAACE. I don't know the films well after the 4th one, I do have intention of watching them sometime. The first one will always be the classic though.
I've been checking out the comics which are just crazy
@@robando2922 those were good. I especially enjoyed the crossover with the nightbreed.
I absolutely love the first two movies but I didn't enjoy the third movie I dnf it halfway through
One of the weirdest horror movies ever made
Niyat.
Imagine watching this and arachnophobia at 6 yrs old?
Traumatized me.
Find it hard to watch horror movies and I really don't like spiders except Spiderman 😂
I didn't have this one, I had Predator though. Much more manly than Dora or Blue 💪🐢
To be fair from the cenobites perspective Kirsty “betrayed” the cenobite’s when she refused to hand over her “father” as they knew the body isn’t Frank but she thinks it is
Huh???
@@nevercommentnotevenonce9334 I mean from the cenobites perspective she is going back on the deal of giving them Frank when she assumes the body is Frank.
Ahh my favorite killer in Dead by Daylight. “The box, you opened it. I CAME!”
"We have such sights to show you!"
Hey dude Honestly you make the best videos, so please keep up this cadence with your release schedule. It’s much appreciated
Thanks! Will do!
I saw the first after a while of seeing clips of the series on tv and fell in love, the atmosphere isnt cluttered with unnecessary noise and the effects are amazing.
0:04 WOW! That TV static sound effect really hasn't aged well. For a second there I thought Kristy was REALLY scared 🌬️
One of my favorite franchises of all time!
Excellent synopsis and description with good quality visuals and not an annoying narrator, perfect video.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Outstanding video as always thanks my friend!🙂👍
Thanks for the visit
@@filmcomicsexplained My pleasure!😎👍
Been waiting for this
Thanks for this!! I love the Hellraiser series, so this was a very welcome video.
Love this channel its n my top 10
One of my favorites! Also that outro music though 👀
Barker was a game changer. Yup 👍🏾. Good stuff.
Great video.
Glad you enjoyed it
While I’ve appreciated the movies for what they are, I’ve personally never been the biggest fan of them, the idea was amazing but I just feel like it has not aged as well as say The Thing, Aliens, or Night Mare on Elm Street. I just remembered Silver Bullet that was a great one I haven’t seen since I was little
Favorite horror flick. Excellent summary.
Good CZcams.
Thank you kindly!
How about an explaining the "starship troopers : hero of the Federation " movie. I love that movie so much
Apparently Doug Bradley started doing his own makeup by the later movies because the new makeup artists just couldn't get the look right.
1:58 "...each one named after their *distinct disfigurements.* This includes the Chaterrer, Butterball, and _The Female."_ 🤣🤣
glad I wasn't the only one who noticed to be fair they did have to change the name from deep throat.
Frank didn’t accidentally stab Julia. It was on purpose. He was always just using her to help him become flesh again. He simply manipulated her lust and obsession with him to his own advantage. Frank was always going to move on to someone else. Hell, he wanted to have sex with Kristy; and it’s implied by Frank’s dialogue( “ come to daddy “) that he might have previously forced himself on her when she was younger..
Once Kristy ruined Frank’s “ Disguise” as Larry by shredding his face, it justified Frank killing Julia so that he could absorb her life energy and heal himself. That’s why as he’s stabbing her, he mockingly says “ it’s nothing personal, baby”. It showed how much he only truly care about himself. He even manipulates Kristy in part 2 for the same selfish motivation.
Another excellent video, Niyat! 👏 👏
Like the first 2, 3 wasn't thought through properly and I've no idea about the others 😂😂😱🤷♂️
Also, Garak... 😱
Glad you liked it!
That Clive Barker knows how to make a nightmare. I really hope for a remake. This series needs it. Especially Hellbound.
I hate what happened to this franchise. I had high hopes for the most recent remake, but the dude who played the new Pinhead still didn't manage to capture the dread and fear the original one did. His makeup looked good, and his performance was excellent, I just don't know why it didn't work as effectively as it did in the original.
3:42 You're tearing me apart Lisa! lmaoo
Whatisantilogic a CZcams channel made a great video about this movie and its actual meaning of addiction.
2:55 I didn't notice until this point in this video you can see the cart carrying the monster
Hi!!!
Hey!
The bit where he pushes his eye into place is the scene I remember most for some reason.
Nice cut in from The Room.
Thanks!
Weren't Pinhead included as well in the movie 'The Cabin in the Woods?'
How powerful really the Old Gods in that film to created tons of horrifying monsters and killers from almost every genre of popular horror flicks?
Nope. Sawhead. An homage.
Chatterbox is my favorite one, and the CD proto-cenobyte from part 3 is a close second. I'm easy to please
Mine is Butterball
Really appreciate the Tommy Weiseau meme.
The first movie was a great watch for every horror-movie jabronis out there...including me, fun times to watch original horror movies
I've watched all of them at least 3 times anddddd I love them all. Even the terrible sequels 😭🤣
That "The Room" joke was hilarious!
Thanks for the video!! See you later!! Stay safe.😉
Thanks! You too!
So great! This is the some horror franchise I just can't do. I was 2 when the film first came out and even warching it On HBO in the 90s, I just COULDNT!
2:55 you can see the cart for pushing the "engineer" behind it
3:43 you’re tearing me apart!!’ 🤣
Great movie and series.
Absolutely!
Clive took a very good gamble he didn't like how other producers and directors handled his films and took a gamble on himself and took the Directors Chair and ultimately created the best Horror movies and franchise ever created.
Love seeing Doug in the makeup chair, he's a cool guy
The thing is they do provide great pleasure and great suffering. As Frank says "pain and pleasure indivisible". They truly believe they are gifting people with the greatest sensory experience possible.
3:42 You're tearing me apart! hahaha here's a like!
Hellraiser, Hellraiser 2 and the one that showed how the box was made are my favorites. I can never remember what number it is.
One of the best films
So much pain, so little time.
Awesome, you should go for Nightbreed then follow through with the graphic novel crossover of Jihad
I had a request that could you please dive in or explain the world of into the badlands please
A lot of good memories! Masterpiece of horror!!!
It takes me back to the good ol' days
I should watch it again.
Dude you gotta do a video on the new movie, it was pretty interesting I think as far as lore possibilities go.
I liked the movie, saw it for the first time a year of two ago. Loved the practical effects but the story is a little lacking, the boyfriend is a nothing character and the homeless guy being a bone dragon seemed to come out of nowhere. At first i was irritated at the idea of a reboot but im actually looking forward to it as long as they keep the practical effects strong.
Tearing me apart Puzzulebox!
I like it
This has probably been asked a million times but what is the name of the outro song to your videos?
3:42 oh hi mark
Any chance of a video about the TV Series Lucifer?
I'm sure it would be well received given the charismatic leads.
i remember seeing Pin Head's head as a display prop at a Planet Hollywood when i was a weeee lad.
I was too terrified to watch any of the films.
Hell yeah
PinHead is solely responsible for my love of monster boys
You can see how much Doug Bradley loves playing him
The first two films are the best. I hope they return to that aspect of the first two and really commit to the tone and feel in the new Hellraiser series.
For some reason hearing say, “He finessed them” has rolling! They were pissed they got played foreal.
Yet another movie series I would have likely never cared for if not for my brother and cousins... Now while the first one gave young me nightmares I have completely blanked on the second and find the third to be almost a horror comedy and never bothered to watch another one after that.
Still Pinhead is an icon and I really like his voice.
My favorite horror icons. The books, The Hellbound Heart and The Scarlet Gospels are superb. Friggin Lucifer is in The Scarlet Gospels.
3:42 Niyat, whyyyyyy? :'D Hahahhahaha!
You’re tearing me apart Lisa!
@@filmcomicsexplained LMAO :'D
I can watch a lot of horror movies but hellraiser is just to freaking much for me and it scares the hell out of me.
Flim comics explains when are I going to continue with the Wrong Turn Franchise and will u do the hell raiser franchise as well
I'm surprised that they haven't made a reboot of this yet
I remember watching Hellraiser in the late 80s and a teenager,it scared the shit out of me…
I am a fan
The new Hellraiser just dropped today on Hulu. Watched this to get a better understanding of the characters, story, etc. Don’t think I need to read up on the sequels. Haven’t heard the best of praise for them, but I might do it anyway. 😂👏🏼
My first time watching hellraiser was the new one and I liked it honestly
[ 01:55 ] "Pinhead is usually accompanied by three associates, each named after their distinct disfigurement. These include the Chatterer, Butterball and The Female" ☕
What the name of the ost in the end of the video ?
So, my buddy and I were trying to decide what movie to go see and finally settled on Hellraiser: Bloodline.
The film starts and the credits list the director as "Alan Smithee".
We instantly knew we were doomed...
lol
Just finished this movie, honestly I didn’t think it was too scary or anything but holy shit was this ahead of this time. The makeup, the score, and Pinhead (as well as the other Cenobites) are all incredible. And for it’s time, this movie must have been absolutely wild to watch, as much as it is today.
Half of what makes this scary is the sounds
