Land Rover Freelander Design and Engineering 1997

Released at the launch of the original Land Rover Freelander in 1997, this video covers many of the aspects of the vehicle's design and innovative engineering.
This particular video has been digitised from one of over 130 VHS cassettes saved from the skip when Rover Group's Marketing Department moved out of Ivy Cottage on the Canley site, Coventry.

It certainly had its problems and what they managed to create in terms of a Market Niche was amazing on the budget but it certainly came with its problems. Freelander 2 on the other hand was probably the most reliable model they ever made both before and after. It’s one of the few things Ford got right with their involvement

It does not have permanent 4WD, the VC requires some slippage between front and rear.

I don't know how they are subjected to tough resistance tests and when they leave the dealership they start to fail, I love the Freelander but I had one that had a cylinder head gasket failure
