    I think that the Ram Air really was beneficial for engine cooling which thus improved performance too. Nice bike.

      what ram air?it was just a metal shroud

    • @ironcast
      @ironcast Před 7 lety +1

      Yes, not ram air as an aid to performance but as an aid to cooling which in turn would improve performance. A metal shroud was all that was needed and was a very good idea.

    @mitsubishimirage Pay attention to the green neutral indicator light in the speedo.. It flashes when the indicators are turned on. This shows that the alternating current is not being smoothed by the battery. Also, the headlightgets very bright when the engine is revved. Obviously, the brightnes should increase, but only slightly. It is a fair indication of a poor battery. Batteries are inexpensive, component parts are very expensive, so the best thing to do is to replace the battery.

    Oh ok. My gt250 had the same issue with the headlight (I am restoring it as we speak). I assumed it was due to the charging system design itself. I had a brand new yuasa battery in it, and it still did it. I guess once I slap it back together I'll have to dig into it and explore some more. Thanks for the info. I appreciate the response.

    Bought one new in 73 in Sydney Australia, did some huge trips on it also raced it a dozen times in production where I unfortunately crashed it , I owned it for 18 months and had heaps of fun , bike was sold for scrap after the crash . You could actually improve the performance by cutting down the carburetor slides as they were restricted by 6mm.

    I had the same model but in red. My first 'big' bike after a moped. Loved the bike until it seized up.Some moron put gravel in the oil tank and it ran dry of oil. Why Suzuki put the oil tank filler where any jealous idiot could get at it is unbelievable. Yamaha RD250 had the filler under the lockable seat. I am in the UK.

    @gavinwel These bikes always need a choke to start. re, the leaking carbs, if you have rebuilt them and the problem persists, i'm not sure that it's a carb problem. Mikunis are ultra reliable. One problem which springs to mind is that these bikes have a vacuum petrol tap with a prime position. If the tap is left on the prime position, the petrol is free to drain into the carbs and run out. Another possibility is that the petrol tap is the problem and may need replaced.

    Used to start my 72 the same way. Never did get the hang of the left side kick starter.

  • @rocker53zero
    @rocker53zero Před 12 lety

    @gavinwel With petrol in the tank, take off the two petrol lines at the petrol tap. Observe them to see if they leak. If the petrol drips out of them at all , then that's your problem.no petrol should ever run out of the taps unless the engine is turning over. The petrol is always free to run when the tap is in the prime position. let me know the results

    You are running the bike in this video with an almost flat battery... This will damage the diodes in your rectifier and may also damage the field coils in your alternator... Buy a new battery.
