Fantastic bike. Back in 73 learning to ride I went from a Suzuki a100 to a CB250 as the noise of a 2 stroke used to wake the neighbours at 6.00 in the morning going off to work as an apprentice in the Shipyards though I should have bought a GT250.Happy days.
Honestly brings tears to your eyes....happiest days of my life on one of these ...tried the X7, tried the KH ...RD nearly got me ....ultimately the GT just had it all 😢
Thanks for the interest Gary. I don't think that I would sell it at the moment as I wish to enjoy it. The bike is ideal for taking out on a nice sunny day for a cruise round or to a classic bike show.
That bike looks and sounds like brand new. Well done and great job! I bought one new from Jimmy Wilder (Great guy) at Bill Smith Motors Aigburth road Liverpool. N reg, exact same blue colour. Cost 495 pounds. Nice bike but would never go over an indicated 75 mph except going through the Wallasey tunnel, 2 up indicated 95. Crazy days.
Thanks for confirming the colour, mine looks paler,I guess it's faded with time, I showed my wife your bike and she told me that she remembered when mine looked like yours ,that was 39 years ago and it was 4 years old then, except for the back rail and got gaiters on the front forks.Anyway I am sure the higgspeed exhaust will look great and sound great.i look forward to see it on utube.Take care
A mate owned one back in the mid '80's and I had an X7. We went out for a ride one night and I was following him up the road. The only problem was his aluminium number plate was loose and it came off and whistled past my head, just missing me by a couple of inches. Great bikes if maintained properly like yours and you cannot beat a good two stroke anyway. Just a shame there are very few on the road these days.
That's how I remember my '72 running - idling around 1500 and not blowing blue smoke like so many "restored" (cough cough bullshit cough) 2-strokes these days. Very nice. 👍
Rode one for about 10mins a few years ago. It seemed so stifled compared to the Kawasaki S1C I owned at the time. Same with the RD. Mustav been a twin thing.
For anyone interested in motorcycles the Suzuki will be displayed at the Manchester Bike Show Event City this weekend. Get down there as there's a good selection of old and new plus lots of stalls. 😁😁
I grew up around these motorbikes in the 1970s still love the motorcycle scene but for the life of me can't get used to modern 4 strokes at all after a lifetime of 2 stroke machines. These Honda Fans and CGs just don't cut it for me.
i have a 1972 red and white that has 1400 miles. my dad passed it to me and it was his first bike at age 16. hes almost 70 id love to restore it . living in the USA not many ppl to help
hi Mike, beautiful suzy, really sweet looking and sounding. you can see from the video, the work you've put into it. I've nearly got my 1973 suzuki GT250K candy apple green all restored, just the barrels and engine casings to get vapour blasted, then start the rebuild seriously. hope to hear her finished before the summer. 😀 👍 👍
Trent Sebastian yes good luck to you. The parts that are difficult to get hold of are front and rear mudguards. If you do find them be prepared to pay big money 💰.
Loved my new GT250a brand new on my 17th birthday 1977 R Reg. Things have come a long way, since. The chain and sprocket set (Made of Monkey Metal) needed replacing every 12 months or so. The points kept wandering and needed setting every few days. The points got wet and the pots used to cut out (Not good when you are trying to take your test in the rain). Managed to get it up to 78MPH one day lying over the tank to cut out wind resistance. Wish I'd bought the RD250 instead.
Am i reading this right 78 max speed on a Suzuki 250 ? mine would easily hit 100 on the speedo and an rd250, a tad more, when i put expansion pipes on the Suzuki 250, it idle led at 3k, and would wheelie in 4th
@@ScragNath You may be right. I had a '72 back around 1990 and it would still crack 160 km/h (100 mph) without lying flat on the tank. The only problem I had was the fuel petcock leaking and filling up the crankcase if I forgot to shut it off, and the non-foldable footpegs (and occasionally those low chrome exhausts) hitting the ground on tight corners.
Just bought one. Had to. Have a t595 Daytona but can't be without 2 stroke sound so the Daytona has to go. These are fab bikes. Who cares if 5mph slower than rd250. Can easily rectify that. But real character
I loved these. I owned one for 18mnths. The Tiny power band 6700 to 7500 rpm. Lol. I left mine standard pipes did 20k on it. As a courier. In 1984. Loved it traded it for a 2yr old MZ 150cc. What a mistake. The MZ was reliable but SLOW HORRIBLE ETC. it was that Russian utility look. . Big mistake loved my GT250. And few yrs later I was into X7 etc. but couldn’t get gt250 ever again gutted
Hey Mike. What an amazing looking bike mate, you've done an incredible job on the restore. I just bought a 1973 GT 250 K and I'm about to embark on the restoration journey. Would it be possible to pick your brains for parts suppliers and the like? Being in Australia I don't have the access to the supply market that you would have in the UK. Love your work...its an amazing restoration job Mike.
Sorry missed your comments on parts. The bits that are the holy grail are the front and rear mudguards. Impossible to buy new and very expensive as a used part. The exhausts also become tarnished and lose their chrome plating. They can be re-chromed at a high cost due to the fumes. Hope this helps.
Yeah, that pretty much sums up what I've learned so far. Apparently the guards can be filled before rechroming so it looks like that's the path I'll take. Expensive but worth that cost to have a near new finish. Thanks for the replies Mike, much appreciated
Hi Michael,First of all, congralulations for transforming this beauty to its former glory,I bought mine in 1977 and did a full restored then,I passed my test on it as L rider could ride a bike up tp 250 cc.I have kept it all these years and only last week, started the process of restoration, it will be a great challenge but as i am retired,I have got the time now. Mine is a Maui blue, yours is different and looks great.Could you tell me what type of blue please.Hope you are still got and enjoying it.Thank You. Ken
Hi there mine is the same colour, although I have seen some that do look a lot lighter. When you look into the paint you should be able to see the metallic. I have just purchased a pair of higgspeed expansion boxes which will be going on so watch this space. Mike
@@Anandkumar-hz8mn Looks and sounds stock, as far as I can remember. I had a '72 some years back, all original (including original exhausts with baffles) and it sounded exactly the same, crisp when revving, and surprisingly smooth and subdued when idling.

garry eppleston nice one Garry. The only option I would say is to get some replacement clocks from thieve's bay. I sold some spare clocks about 12 months ago. I think you'll find that the GT 380 clocks are also the same size.

Hi Michael we spoke at last years bike show at event city do you know anything about the carbs I have a problem with the engine flooding with petrol and have had to have a rebore and new pistons and it's done it again.
Just to add to my previous comments. You must never have the fuel tap kept in the prime position. Turn to prime just to fill the float bowls then return to the normal run position. For some reason if you leave it in prime it will flood the fuel system..
Hi Paul, I don't think I would ever sell it as it holds similar memories to you. I've waiting for some higgspeed exhausts for it as I want to store the original pipes.

When you say it's done it again have you had to drain the fuel from the crankcase. If so it's probably a fuel tap issue.
Or the needle jets are not shutting the fuel off thus it's going into the crankcase.
Thanks for the prompt response have put a standard tap on so it's not that have ordered new floats hope that solves the problem,
Just to add to my previous comments. You must never have the fuel tap kept in the prime position. Turn to prime just to fill the float bowls then return to the normal run position. For some reason if you leave it in prime it will flood the fuel system..
