Only called “God of Destruction” cause they’re able to destroy at will but I think the first time Beerus was introduced his character was a relentless and destructive God as he is, but there’s more to it than destruction but keeping the universe in check and maintain peace or force if needed
Yeah it really gives us an interesting world building of the gods.
I think of the gods of destruction like the galactus of DB.

Well they chose characters as Vegeta, and almost all of them where doing bad job, so time to change character
They took all that formal time and consideration. Even Beerus is shocked by Zeno's decision at 5:49, XD.
Goku being selected as GOD might actually help him. Maybe he would learn when to be serious in specific moments. I’d like to think he would mature with such a role.
Not only that, but would also be interesting to see Vegeta rise to the occasion when he is a GOD, see both Goku's 6, and Vegeta's Universe join 1, 5, 8, and 12 in the safe zone above Mortal Level 7.
The two reason's why Zeno choose Goku is first they know that he is mortal and they can't play with him anymore if he is dead, so by turning him immortal they can play how much they want when he has his free time. And the second reason is that Goku does not show any fear of the Zenos unlike every other GoDs, Kaio Shins and Vegeta.

There's no such intelligent reasons as to why the Zeno's chose Goku.
The reason is simple and clear, Goku is their friend and they like him so they just chose him over anyone else in a 'competition".
They're children, they do what they want without a care in the multiverse.

What I don’t see a lot of people saying is how well they capture the “Toriyama style” comedy mixed high seriousness. And the plots twisty we didn’t see coming. Almost like it was from the man himself. Great job!

I like how the story of how Kais are made went. Its a interesting story and actually makes sense and I could see that being canon in the actual Dragon Ball universe.

Hard to imagine Goku destroying planets. Seems like every episode he's trying to prevent someone from blowing up a planet.
Very interesting plot decision. While vegeta’s character is of course much more suited to a god of destruction, this could force some very interesting character development for Goku who has been relatively stagnant in all stories and fan stories since DBZ or has been removed entirely in fan stories. It would also have been a bigger blow to the family if Vegeta was chosen due to him being a (slightly) more present father and husband.

Yep, ur right. I’ve come to notice that in fan stories Goku is either locked/trapped away somewhere or just out the story. It gets stale after reading it for the 100th time.

@@sanderrose4645 No, it’s cause all dragon ball fans are just boring. All their fan mangas end up following the same AB plot and people swear it’s fresh and new. Any writer worth his salt can make it work. Look at One piece, Luffy always beats the main villain and is the true saviour in the end of each arc. Yet everyone else still does their part to help. Oda is a brilliant writer.
Vegeta would have been perfect for this role. He doesn't want to destroy yet would hold the ideals of the role sternly and when his inevitable temper arises however infrequent it makes no difference because he is the God of Destruction.
Goku on the other hand barely kills and couldn't think of destroying a planet unless it is simply to defeat not kill a stronger advesary.

I think the reason Goku was chosen was to keep Goku in check should he gets too strong and/or become evil. Remember that Whis said that even the other gods are having a hard time mastering ultra instinct. They can just kill Goku by killing the Kaioshin he is partnered with if he turns rogue.

the zenos have demonstrated that they are far wiser than they let on, so my guess is they chose goku for a reason
and that reason is so they can play with him for tens of thousands of years

I see a lot of people taking the side of Vegeta saying he would be the perfect God of Destruction but in my opinion Goku is a better candidate. Although not ruthless he’ll honour the lives that have to be sacrificed for the greater good far more than the other gods. He understands how precious life is and how it must be protected at all costs, if destroying some planets is the only way then he’ll learn to accept this and carry the burden of the lives he’s taken keeping his humanity alive along his path of divinity.
To me this would be a better storyline as well since Zcells are more active in humans and half Saiyans, then destroying planets could either weaken Goku or strengthen him by a.) turning his personality into that of the original Saiyan race or b.) further bringing out his humanity through guilt and sadness of the tasks he’s assigned to do.

As a god of destruction I feel it’s not so much him being assigned task but rather him making decisions to destroy certain things or people

I love the storyline, hope in the manga they'll have such a continuation after the Granola saga,or maybe latter, but with Vegeta as the God of destruction. 🔥
While this is an unexpected plot twist, I would like to see how the next part of the story plays out before making any rash judgements. Frost is probably going to be upset that a saiyan will be ruling over him now. The U6 Saiyans will find great glee in knowing another saiyan is their new destroyer.
Would have been cooler IMO if Vegeta were U.6 new GoD.. Then he could fulfill his promise to the Saiyans there and visit their planet Sedala.. as their universe's new GoD.. would be so epic.

Pretty cool story! Just caught up with the last part as well as this one, and I have to say, I'm looking forward to seeing how they develop the plot and characters. It'll be interesting to see Goku clash with something that is the complete opposite of his ideology and how he overcomes it. They also casually perfectly summed Zeno's entire personality that we got and I feel like it was a decent service to his "Character". I am a bit upset for Vegeta but from a plot perspective it would make complete sense that Zeno said screw you GODS, I'm going with my BOI, THE GOATTTTT Goku who technically saved all yall twice during the TOP. Anyways, now I'm ranting. Great read Mondo! Looking forward to the next one.

I think the job of a god of destruction is like how beerus intervened to stop zamasu but the fact that during majin boo's rampage he was asleep i would say beerus was not doing his job diligently.

This is an interesting decision. Goku's personality doesn't fit being a god of destruction at all. Will Goku have the will to destroy life that he doesn't want to destroy since thats what being a god of destruction requires of him? He does have a tendacy to sometimes let bad people go without destroying them. Maybe we'll see Goku face this predicament in the future.
But Goku can and will kill if it comes down to it just look at all the major dbz arcs

Lol he destroys evil! But i think goku is also getting used to people dying. His reaction to the first krillins death way back in dragon ball is the most beautiful scene in the entire franchise.
People underestimate just how well Goku actually can fit into the role of God of Destruction. While he does have a habit of sparing people, they typically only get one chance. It's just that, upon realizing they cannot defeat Goku, they take the out. Ultimately, I don't think that a 'God of Destruction' is supposed to destroy willy-nilly, they're supposed to be someone who pulls weeds. It's just that usually, the power goes to their head. It's a universal license to kill, and it's best to give it to someone who is going to be fair in judgement. Most of the current Gods of Destruction, in fact, have not been doing their job well.
I think this actually sets up the stage for more future conflicts in the franchise, where Goku is going to have to deal with rebellious Gods of Destruction.
God of Destructions destroy planets and life so the universe is in balance. Goku wouldn't do that even if it is for a good cause
Goku does NOT fit into the GoD role. It goes against literally everything his fucking character stands for and has stood for, for nearly 40 years.

Technically, a good God of Destruction ensures a high population to planet ratio as seen when the Tournament of Power was announced. A GD's role is more like a farmer plowing the field where a Kaioshin's duty is to sow the seeds. It is never stated that a GD's role is to indiscriminately kill as that would eventually leave them without a job. It's more like to cull the bad plants and make way for the good crops.
But Goku isn't suited for that as he believes too much in second chances. Piccolo, Vegeta, Frieza, even Buu (Uub) can testify to that. When he does conclude that enough is enough it's that he usually pulls out some kind of martial arts miracle out from beneath his tail root, and by that time the damage is usually done and at least one good person died.

Maybe later Goku could train all Universe 6 Saiyan-jins to become SSJ1, than SSJ2, than maybe SSJ3, than learn them the SSJG ritual, than train them for SSJB and maybe train them for UI and MUI. Having a full planet of MUI Saiyan-jins would probably increase the Universe 6 ranking and that could be away for Goku if he wants to go back his old life and family is to announce maybe some Universe 6 Saiyan-jin to replace him.
