Just a quick video for you guys who are broke down on the road or trying to get somewhere with a 5mph limit lol. This should be a temporary fix for your dpf problem so you can get to the shop. Hope this helps, good luck!

Yes, this works, but also, on a manual transmission, you will lose your engine brakes, cruise control, and you don't have that much power. It will be sufficient to get down the road and be at safer place. Great video. Thank you. This has saved me thousands of dollars in tows.
Also a good thing my electrician put a switch for my volvo on speed sensor now i dont have to go under my truck because sometimes its wet and cold and its very convenient
Plug the sensor back in within 5 miles. This happened to me NYE morning in Wisconsin. Unplugged the sensor, manually regen'd the truck, drove 5 miles down the interstate, pulled over, plugged the sensor back in and it was good to go. Run the def down slightly below half and refill. 1500 miles and still going, back on truck scheduled regen.

Make sure when u disconnect your speed sensor and get to the dealer connect before u go in I had a friend that dealer charged him about $600 to connect his speed sensor i belive it happened in Cheyenne WY
Done that on my truck. With speed sensor disconnected obviously truck will throw check engine on this. By default volvos are set to provide limited amount of boost and power (50 % if I remember correctly) when there is speed sensor related problem, I have mine ECM set to provide full power with or without speed sensor . Last thing ishift will work only in manual mode, use extreme caution when speed sensor is unplugged.
Could you tell me how that was done? Is it a setting in the VCADS or does it need to be tuned?
This will only work if your speed is being limited due to an emissions or other faults. Hope it works for you

Thanks so much thank you. I was in the middle of nowhere when my volvo started to act crazy after putting some bad def in a the truck stop.
If your software is updated recently in Volvo dealer taking out only speed sensor is not helping. The only way you can drive is: take out the ABS fuse ( in the fuse box under the hood in driver side) + take off speed sensor.
How can I get my 2015 International Prostar (automatic) out of derate mode? I disconnected this plug and it made things worse. So, I had to reconnect it.
Might save someone that high dollar tow bill!!

I'm glad y'all are telling this information, my goodness it would be horrible to do this and be going down a 8% grade at 80,000lbs.
Just did this on d13 and disconnected power for several minutes, still only 5mph. Not working on 2017 vnl860.☹
Yea I think made update on newer trucks and older ones that went to dealer. Doesn't work on all trucks
But a question is what about the engine will not shut off ???

Try to run crystal sublimation. If regen fails too many times will get stuck but usually gets stuck at 140

This situation is I know.
You need stop driving and park.Complete your regen.When too long time it’s meaning your DPF filter is full dirty.Need help it’s mean go shop,which is I highly recommend!because if you can’t after you disconnect speed sensor and continue driving your filter DPF is still dirty and dirty and will be cleaned manually with fully was open only.Its too long labor cost!
But you can complete delivery and than go shop immediately.
1.your speed no more than 65 mph/less than 2000 ponds weight!
2.No power when mountain up hill maybe you can stop!
3.E-Logbook doesn’t wrote mileage and drive mode will stop .stopped your elog !be carefully illegal!

4.DPF PARTICULAR FILTER MAYBE BIG PROBLEM-$expensive charge than your make money per day!

Now it needs to go to a shop to ger the problem fixed
It’s a bus from hell don’t ever buy one
