They literally allowed the idea of Lotso turning a school into a prison why didn't they allow this concept of Woody? It would have been a great character development and redemption arc for him.

But in a more detailed note, I heard that Jeffrey Katzenberg wanted Toy Story to be "Edgier" than most of Disney's Other movies, and as a result, we ALMOST got a movie that would've been Panned by critics and audiences, and Pixar would've been ruined, as well as Disney. Now, I AM aware that in order for a Main Character to be likable, they have to be flawed, BUT, at the same time, you should NEVER go overboard with it, because if you make your characters TOO flawed, or make them TOO unlikable, then we, the Audience will completely Reject them and don't even Want to root for them or sympathize with them.
