    My Favorite Movie Ever made. I'd watch this movie a million times over ,before even one showing of Gone with the Wind or The Ten Commandments or even the Color Purple. This movie is awesome and has everything in it that any human could expect in having a myriad of emotions. The acting in this movie really sets a very high bar. Sidney and Ms. Hartman are outstanding in A Patch of Blue. This movie is a lesson in trustworthiness, compassion, unconditional love, friendship, ignorant hate, stupid prejudices, bigotry, selfishness, hope, happiness and happy endings. I only wish there had been a sequel.

      I was so disappointed though, that the movie ended as it did. I concluded that her lack of sophistication prevented a love affair but hoped that he stayed in her life as a friend.

    THANK YOU so very, very much for videoing this movie locals. I don’t know how old I was the first time I saw A Patch of Blue (I was a little girl in 1965) but I adored it. The film stayed with me all my life - I became a huge Poitier fan and saw everything he did, film, TV, etc. He was a true professional, very serious about his craft. But APOB remains my favourite with “To Sir With Love” a very close second. Incredibly gifted actor. Miss Hartman played a blind girl so well I didn’t know she wasn’t until my 20’s! Very well done, sir, truly. ❤️🐈
    **I am so glad they didn’t decide to ruin it by “colorising” it.

    Remember watching this on late night TV with my aunt while my sisters and I were visiting in Southern California and staying with family down there for vacation. I was about nine at the time and this would’ve been 1968 or 1969. She let me stay up late to watch it. I real liked it and it was a movie that I made sure I showed to my daughters when they were kids. They loved it, too. We watched it in an afternoon with To Sir, With Love.

    Hi Jordan, thanks for taking me down memory lane. I grew up about 6 blocks from Westlake Park and remember our neighborhood was abuzz because Sidney Poitier was shooting a movie in the park. I was about 12 or 13 at the time. My friends and I went down there but they kept the crowd well out of the camera's range. Funny, I saw this movie with my mother at the Westlake Theater because she was a fan of Sidney's and Shelley's. By the way, 'Hemmicks' was a diner; kind of a greasy spoon even back in the day. My best friend's sister worked at 'The Outlet' discount store on 7th street. This area use to be much nicer than it is now.

      The location does look nicer, better organized, definitely cleaner, and the people better dressed! That's one of the things I really miss from back then, people really taking care of themselves! Anyway, since you lived in LA at the time, was the weather cooler back then? Cause in the film, people wear sweaters and the sky looks cloudless as if they were in Autumn. Thanks for your input! ☘️

    • @EagleRockers
      @EagleRockers Před rokem +1

      @@onlyoneamong300 I don't remember what time of year this was filmed; Maybe in the winter, thus the coats and sweaters. Those people you see are extras and were probably asked to dress that way even if it was summer. L.A. has always had nice weather, but we've always had some hot spells during the summer and that continues to today. We had a Christmas not too long ago when it was 90 degrees. I love L.A.!

    • @onlyoneamong300
      @onlyoneamong300 Před rokem

      @@EagleRockersYes! But the weather has changed everywhere since the 60's! For instance, winters in Ohio, or the Great Lake states for that matter, used to be pretty snowy from October or November till March or April up until early 2000. Now, it snows much later in the year but it won't stay on the ground too long. Back in 2013, 2014 we barely had any snow! That's why it's very likely that weather in LA, being down South, has probably become hotter. That's why I wanted to know if you've noticed the difference after 58 years!

      @EagleRockers Před rokem +1

      @@onlyoneamong300 What I have noticed is how humid it is in the summer whereas it was a dry heat up until a few years ago. Also, we got an enormous amount of rain this past winter that ended the drought.

    Great video thanks. Love this old film. Love Sidney Poitier and Elizabeth Hartman. Great film. Cool seeing Macarthur Park. The reason you couldn`t match up her tree in the park is because the scene`s in the park were filmed at the MGM Ranch movie lot. They filmed the entrances and surrounding streets of the Macarthur Park but not the scene`s inside the park. Nice job though again thanks.

    Jordan, thank you so much for making this video and posting it. I lived (very briefly) in that same neighborhood, and was surprised to recognize that intersection from A Patch of Blue (one of my all-time favorite films). I hate to rain on your parade, but the park scenes in A Patch of Blue where not actually shot in MacArthur Park. They were shot on studio property.

      I saw another movie geek post about this movie and he said it was at MacArthur Park too. If you've seen the movie, the park scenes were shot at the park as evidenced by the background and landmarks. Jordan posted some of the landmarks that remain like parts of the buildings and the park entrance. Somebody else commented below that she lived in near the park in '63 was and it was a big deal at the time.

    Thank you Jordan..finding your channel put a big Ole smile on my face! You are obviously a real gem! I almost missed out on this masterpiece of cinema. I saw this beautiful movie by accident circa 1995..I was visiting my beloved grandmother in N.C. &. it came on late night. She told me how much she loved it so glanced up unimpressed with some old black & white movie..thought it would be corny. But I wanted to make my Maw Maw happy & keep her company so what the hell, right? 90 mins later I am sobbing with emotion because I knew it was now forever going to be in my top 10 list. Her & I talked about the meaning of love & how special this sweet tale is. My grandmother passed away many years later. I have seen the move over 20 times &.still feel moved like that first night. It is special to me & I have never met another person of my generation that not only has seen it but loved it like you do . I thought I was weird & gave up finding someone cool to chat it up with. Sorry so long & thank you for for sharing this with me! You are a keeper🎥

Her portrayal of a fragile spirit will last for eternity . Hope it is discovered by others after I'm gone

    Thanks so much! This was a great vlog. I have seen "APOB" several times and have always admired the great performances of a great cast and a beautiful soundtrack. Even though Shelly won an Oscar she said she always tried to find something good in the characters she played...but she admitted there was NOTHING GOOD about Rose-anne D'Arcy. Even her friend Sadie was horrible. She seemed to be he one to come up with the idea of pimping out poor Selina. If one didn't know better you'd think the film took place in NYC.

    Wow this was a big movie to me when I was a child. it was on television quite regularly. So much so that I used to have nightmares about shelley winters.
    Later in life I moved to LA and I used to eat at chinese takeout LA Kitchen almost daily (because it is super cheap and pretty tasty...pictured in your video at about 10:25.) I never realized one of my favorite movies A PATCH OF BLUE was filmed at MacArthur park.
