For those curious, SPG is a band of steam powered automatons. In the late 1800s, their creator, Colonel P. Walter, crated them to battle copper African elapgants that were rampaging across the Nile in Egypt. This attack, was the escalation of Walter’s bitter rivalry with his best friend turned adversary. Years ago, they’d had a falling out. Over, what else? A girl. The robots were created originally, to serenade his love, but, she’d died some time later. The robots would be used in many wars across history, before being found and restored by Walter’s great, great grandson. He would then use them for a different purpose than the violence and sorrow that birthed them: making music, as Walter originally intended. Now, in the present day, the robot, band sings, dances, and gets up to hijinks, to entertain the masses. The employees, such as the Walter workers of Walter Robotics Inc, tend to join in the fun on stage. The band usually spends their time at Walter Manor when not touring. Even robots need a tune up every now and then! Also, they have a smaller robot mascot: a giraffe named GG that The Spine loathes.
The main singer is a robot named Rabbit who was the first one built and though she was very serious in this song (yes, she; the actress is trans and shortly after their third album, she transitions the character), she is usually very chaotic and mischievous! The silver robot is The Spine. He was built with a titanium alloy spine! (That’s his BACK story) he is normally the responsible one, the serious one, but sometimes he has his moments of being silly (like the Diamonds video). Then there’s The Jon, the gold one! He’s kinda weird and random and half the time he doesn’t know what he’s talking about and neither do you! He left after their second album to take care of mayoral duties in Biscuit Town (the actor couldn’t commit to the rigorous schedule of a singing robot mime)
Such fun that you mention jumping down a "Rabbit Hole" since the lead singer on this song is Rabbit! I first heard "Honeybee" a little over a year ago, and I've been obsessed ever since. I'd recommend "Brass Goggles" or "Hot on the Trail" next, or maybe "Rust With You".
I'm a long time fan of SPG and I like most of their music tbh. I definitely recommend their newest album 1896 to see how their music has changed over the years. Shattered Stars and Hot on the Trail are a couple of my faves from that album. Thanks for reacting to one of my fave bands!
There's a whole lore behind the band's fictional origins (as steam-powered singing automatons created in the 1890s) that I won't dump on you, but you can catch glimpses of in some of the songs ("Brass Goggles" and "Clockwork Vaudeville" primarily). They've had six albums over the past ~15 years and they're currently working on a seventh. They've had a few changes in the line-up over that time. The singer in this one (Rabbit) and the one with the guitar (the Spine) are the core members (a pair of siblings irl), with a third member switching out over the years (this video has their original third member, the Jon, in the top-hat). There's no one "lead singer" because each member of the band writes and headline a few of the songs, so their music covers a variety of styles and tones (some very off the wall and humorous, others a lot more somber and serious) but the focus on harmonies is a constant. My favorite album is Vice Quadrant, which is a whole ass sci-fi rock opera about alternate timelines and rampaging space gods and a satellite that falls in love with a planet. Overall, expect the unexpected. It's a very weird band, but a lot of fun.
Check out a few of the songs The Spine(the one in silver) does. His voice range is insane. Look up diamonds, Summer time sadness (both covers) and hot on the trail. So amazing.
I'm glad you liked them, SPG is so good! Probably my favorite of theirs is Malfunction it's very sweet and whenever I feel down, I go and rewatch it. Highly recommend checking it out!
I suggest two different versions of Brass Goggles. The og and there’s also newer version that I think you should check out as well, the live at Denver Colorado version really shows off Rabbits insane vocal range. And also the Diamonds cover shows off the Spines insane vocals too. Both of the twins have crazy vocal ranges
lets just say I am a metal head but Honey Bee got me about 5 years ago and I love them and still a metal head, there are 3 CZcams channels for them as far as i know of, David Michael Bennett's Channel, aka The Spine, he was the six string player in that video, Bella's Boneyard channel, aka Rabbit, sang lead in the video now a female, same person and still performs Honey Bee and many many other songs with SPG. then you have the Steam Powered Giraffe channel. David and Bella are siblings, other players and members have changed in that 11 years and today they are as awesome as they were then. I recommend Steam Powered Giraffe one million percent

It’s so fun watching people react to honeybee! I love spg’s harmonies

Hot on the Trail, Me and My baby, Transform... amazing songs
Thank you for the suggestions!
As a trans woman, Transform brings me to tears, in a good way, every time.

I hope you check out other songs by them like Brass Goggles and Hot on the Trail.
We will be checking more out from these 3 for sure!!! Thanks for watching!!
