I wish I could read classics like the masnavi, the persian epics, the sufis and poetry in farsi. Persian culture is too underated all over the world.

The Iranian people are not as radicalized and dogmatic as some think. Many are annoyed with their regime's incompetence and hostile agenda. Many are inspired by Western trains of thought. What's surprising here is that Western information managed to pass through the Iranian state's checks and surveillance. Why would they allow these books?

    Very interesting.
Persia had the printing press in 1639 but nothing resembling
the Frankfurt Book Fair in Europe.
Reading was the essential ingredient for the Enlightenment.
Records of the sales of Diderot's Encyclopedia show which regions
were most receptive. (Obviously Northern Europe).
The Ottoman Ulema banned printing in 1515 and haven't recovered yet.

Strong military is not the only thing Iranians want ,they also want an effective economy and three simple principles,Liberte ,egalite, humanitaire.
Islamic republic achieved one aspect of strong nation which is military, for the rest this Theocracy was an utter failure

  • @princeardalan

When we speak English we must use English words. The language used in Iran is called "Persian" and not "Farsi/Parsi", just like the language used in Germany is called "German" and not "Deutsch". The language used in Malaysia is called "Malay" and not "Bahasa Malayu". The language used in Japan is called Japanese and not "Nihongo". Throwing a foreign word in the middle of an English sentence is not just wrong, it's confusing as well.
