I chose four permanent components of Cristóbal Balenciaga’s last two decades of collections and applied them on my design aesthetic in order to create a bridge between Balenciaga’s signature elegance and silhouette and my own personal style.” - Demna
At the salons de Couture located at 10 avenue George V in Paris, Balenciaga presented its 53rd Couture Collection today. 39 looks including everyday wardrobe garments, a variety of upcycled and reconstructed pieces and gowns were introduced.

the sculptural shoulders & sleeves are very Cristobal, but all in modern fabrics. most wont get it, but I think it's a very good couture show

Gonna chime in here. I appreciate you capturing the house codes in their subtle forms. However, my issue is the overall tone. I don't think Cristobal would appreciate the current tone of the house. Both pizza and Potatoes Au Gratin contain cheese, but each dish has a different mood, a different presentation, a different time and place to eat them--a different tone! Demna can do elegance, but there is always something sinister, something dark, something hidden, something disturbed lurking below the surface in even the most glamorous of his productions, which I think would trouble Cristobal.

Great collection! I always love how Demna's references can be easily recognized and not overtly fantasy. The details and time spent crafting each look are what make the piece live beyond the reference. Excited to see the detail shots and closer look into some of the pieces like the belt gown, denim shark dress, rock band t-shirts.

I think the reaction online will be quite negative to this show. I can appreciate the cloths for what they are though.
The reaction online is negative because “Haute Couture Grunge” isn’t a thing. I love denim too, but I’m not paying $50k for a pair of “handmade” jeans.

@@richardmacleod5253That’s not the point. HC is actually the “Grand Advertising “ for the house and filters down to create sales on “lower” price items. It allows ppl to associate themselves to Haute Couture through the sale of a shirt or jacket. Just think of it as the house flexing their “artistic muscles”.

You might want to read up on the definition of couture. Couture is about being made to measure and using hand techniques. It has nothing to do with a particular style. A pair of underpants is couture if it follows the rules.
