Nenio Written Guide: 10 Scroll Savant (get all 10 of SS before starting the 10 in Loremaster), 10 Loremaster (Be sure to buy scroll scribing kits and craft scrolls while resting, and use your scrolls! They’re honestly pretty plentiful, especially with crafting.) Skills: Knowledge/Lore Skills, UMD (Focus on Knowledge/Lore skills first unless one or more of those is already covered by your MC/regularly used party members; in that case take the points that you would have used in that Knowledge/Lore Skill and put them into UMD) Level 4: +INT, Skills, Level 2 Spells (Grease, Glitterdust) For any spells listed in the guide, keep in mind that Nenio can write spells from scrolls into her spell book; if you find scrolls for any of the suggested spells in this guide, write them into her spellbook before taking the level that would give you these spells and use the freed up slots for other spells (either another of those that are suggested or just others that you personally find useful/suit your party specifically) Level 5: Skills, Metamagic (Heighten Spell), Level 3 Spells (Haste, Heroism; Greater Magic Weapon if you already have someone with Heroism) Personally I think that the best spells to use this on would be her Illusion spells given that's what she focuses on (i.e. Heighten Phantasmal Killer as soon as possible; the higher the DC on that the better, but maybe hold off on heightening when you first reach higher caster levels as you don’t want to fill up ALL of your high level spell slots to the point where you can’t use your “actual” high level spells. It has been a while since I made this comment and although I love making the amazing builds of CRPG bro as accesible/easy to read as possible, I'd like to indicate that he has made a new Nenio build that is tailored both to the knowledge of the game he has acquired sinced making this first guide and also to the newly Enhanced Edition of the game. If you feel compelled to use this original build then by all means follow both CRPG bros video and my comment, but please keep in mind that there is more up to date content available as of today (Feb. 2023). good build. I'd make one change, at level 13, give Nenio Selective Spell and Precise shot from her lore secret. That way when you're casting pit spells and hellfire ray, Nenio doesn't eat the entire party or miss every shot.
I would have gone with selective spell sooner. Having an aoe that your guys can walk through while the enemy has to save or suck is very strong. Or just not having to be precise with the glitter dust is cool. A Nenio with a trickster MC could in theory have a selective spell Polar Midnight. Pretty good. Not the biggest deal for the trash encounters but for hard encounters that's a lot.
Selective Spell can indeed be useful, it's just that my parties tend to be quite melee centric so often I just rush the enemies while prebuffed instead of bothering with AoE spells, besides the early game where I spam Grease & Glitterdust.
She can learn Phantasmal Web, which already is a Selective Web ++, that benefits from your illusion spell focus. Not as useful as prone, but great to open battles and keep the enemies in their places
With the Librarian’s Cloak and Specialist belt Nenio can cast spells from scrolls as five levels higher. You can’t buy scrolls written with extend but if Nenio or another writes a scroll round per level scroll with the extend metamagic then Nenio could turn it into a 24 hour buff. She can get to level 29 with Phantasmal Guide and School Mastery but I’m not sure if it is worth it.
True! Takes a bit of setting up, but after that, it's always great to see them instantly defeated by it. Back in the days of D&D there used to be a lot more spells like this such as Finger of Death, Destruction & Wail of the Banshee, which just deal damage now.
I always end up greasing myself 😆. In the final battle of chapter 1 I greased my whole team except Lann and Daeran. Then after we won the battle they were all still stuck on the ground and I had to wait 10 real life minutes. Even Woljif who casted the spell and had +14 to reflex saving throws was stuck until the greased despawned. Then people are saying they are going to do a play of my character and how heroic he was in defeating the demons when he was laying on the ground covered in grease doing nothing 😂
Yeah, that can end up happening with Grease 😀 It's why it pays to cast it at the edge of the hostile circle, so it only hits the enemies while giving you a decent enough window to move and attack.
Sorry to necro this, but I once spent 7 straight minutes trying to get out of 2 Grease pools I had cast during the duel in Valerie's personal quest in Kingmaker. Poor Harrim couldn't take a single step without crashing to the ground.
I simply bought 4 scrolls of Freedom of Movement for the main melee. Greased everything and watched them fall on their ass all day long while eating popcorn. 4 scrolls 2800. Fights: priceless 👌
I found that Nenio kinda builds herself. I also went 10 SS and 10 LM. I didn't go that much into ray spells and I picked enchantments instead of conjuration. But either way you build her in the end the weird spells make her powerful as hell. She's one of my favorite companions in the game because besides being very versatile and useful I find her banter hilarious.
Yeah, in some ways Nenio can be a straightfoward character to build indeed. Just need to pay attention to some feats, especially the metamagic ones that weren't in Kingmaker like Persistent Spell.
phantasmal putrefication is amazing for the level u get it at, it can save your ass in many spots, it used to be my mvp in blackwater before dungeon got rebalanced and demons got more reasonable there also top tier in ivory sanctum where it ofren takes a bit for enemies to come after you for one reason or another
You can pick a guaranteed glitter dust and see invis in the basement in Market Square with the cold demon (along with a nice longbow for someone). Because she can scribe glitterdust I would go with Blur.
Yep! Decent for any other Fighter/Mage Wizard or INT based character too. Best part is it won't really cost anything besides Martial Weapons Proficiency feat.
I never went this build because I did not know Greater grandmaster Rod help to overcome fear/mind-affecting immunity :) thanks. 6/5 I was an arcane trickster + 1 lvl cross blooded sorc, and that is fine, but I really think this build is better. (I will miss my 200dmg lvl 2 scorching rays tough)
Yeah, Grandmaster's Rod bypassing fear immunity also blew my mind back then, I had no idea it could work that way until I heard someone talking about it. At first glance you probably only think it bypasses damage resistance/immunity, but it's so much more! Glad you enjoyed the build, I personally prefer it like this because I don't like multiclassing at all on my casters as it delays spell progression.
Hi there! I apologize for that, it's just that once the secret is out of the bag, whenever you attempt to respec Nenio (which is needed for the Build Guide), she'll always go back to her true form, including portrait in the build screen, so not much that can be done I'm afraid.
I don't bother with Precise Shot because the reality is this Nenio is more about CC and Buffs, Precise would only really help her with Hellfire Ray, but by the time that becomes good damage, you already have enough +AB buffs to increase its chances of hitting, as it targets Touch AC. Nenio can melee with the Bardiche that treats INT for AB/Damage too which is really fun. And thank you for the compliment!
Thoughts on picking up Enduring Spells and Greater Enduring Spells at lvl 4-5 mythic and then picking up what you suggested from lvl 6? Nenio is my only character with Heroism and Greater Heroism, which to my knowledge is a spell that neither Camellia or Daeran gets access to. (My other Greater Enduring buffers.)
You can certainly pick them earlier for longer buffs! I usually go with a custom Skald nowadays who gets Good Hope for party wide Heroism and +2 to damage even!

Seelah for Mark of Justice + Horse and some Divine support like Bestow Grace, Aura of Greater Courage and Greater Magic Weapon 2. Sosiel for pet + Domain Abilities 3. Camellia for great buffs from her Spellbook and most importantly, Hexes 4. A Skald Merc for massive melee party wide support Last slot changes based on my main character class and so on, usually it's either Daeran for more Divine Spells (since I run melee heavy parties with pets and Daeran can get Abundant + Enduring Spells, unlike Sosiel who is first stuck with a lot of Impossible Domains as his Mythic Abilities, plus Daeran also gets a pet. Besides Daeran, a ranged character like Lann, Wenduag or Aru!
Nice Nice, I was wondering if with the changes to Loremaster caster level if she'd gravitate towards 10/10 instead of 15/5 or 20 scroll savant. Do you know why my Loremaster levels don't add to the initial caster level of a crafted scroll? Very weird that yours do, I'm stuck at cl 10 for everything with her.
I'm not sure about the reason for the scroll level, but I imagine it might be a bug. Loremaster used to "eat" one of your caster levels before a patch, so you got 9/10 casting progression, as the first level was lost. Now they fixed that for spells and CL, but maybe it remains for scroll crafting.
I wonder what would happen... ...if at level 11 for Nenio I take one level of a Crossblooded Sorcerer, choose Fey Bloodline twice (it is possible at least in 1.1.7), then pick 2 feats for the Enchantment school, then take Bloodline Ascendance - Fey... and then Expanded Arsenal to Illusion. What would be Nenio's Illusion DC in this case? Because every Fey bloodline increases DC of the spells of "compulsion subschool" by 2, so it's +2 * 3 = +6 at least. The only problem is that a subschool may not apply to the whole school for Expanded Arsenal.
I have never tried it this way, but I do also wonder if bonuses that aren't to a main school will work with Expanded Arsenal. Certainly requires some testing!
Need your advice on the functionality of magician's ring, it seems very bugged to me: The DC bonus is not added directly to the spell DCs in your spellbook to begin with, as opposed to amulet of clarity, one can simply tests it by put them on and off and see if those dc numbers change. And another question, why is robe of mephistopheles is recommended for azata? where the synergy comes from for Nenio?
Magician's Ring is a bit different from Clarity Amulet. Ring only increases DC of Illusion spells by +2, Amulet is +2 to ALL mind affecting spells, including Enchantment spells for example. I believe it is working at the moment, try to equip the ring and you'll see an increase in Phantasmal Killer DC for example. The Robe of Mephisto is good because it has a aura that inflicts -4 to the saves of enemies against fear effects, and the instant death spells that Nenio has, Phantasmal Killer & Weird, are fear spells.
Is it worth getting precise shot for hellfire ray? I'm trying this build, but my DC seems to be too low for offensive spells like phantasmal killer. I"m level 16. Perhaps duffing first is needed. Unfortunately I don't have much of the gear in your video.

Hi there, and welcome aboard! To apply Metamagic to your spells, check your Spellbook by pressing "B". There should be a section there called "Metamagic" at bottom left. Then you can choose the spells & metamagic you want by clicking on the spell then the little circles on the upper left side, depending on what metamagic feats you have. For prepared casters, you'll have to then slot the metamagic version of the spell to cast it. For spontaneous casters, they can just do it at will, but require a full round action (6s) to cast the metamagic spell.

Hi, there! I prefer Scimitars because they have higher Critical Range than Longswords (15-20 instead of 17-20 with Improved Critical). This helps a lot when it comes to generating Attacks of Opportunity by stacking Teamwork Feats that work based on Critical Hits. There are also many great Scimitars in the game, more than Longswords in my opinion. Longswords are still a solid choice, however. And remember, you can always use Finnean before upgraded Radiance!

This is great! But all her illusion spells are mind affecting and a huge percentage of demons and enemies are immune to mind affecting. So I end up just having Nenio use scrolls to heal or buff which I don't like doing with Nenio. Do you suggest anything to overcome that?
Thanks! Actually, not that many demons are immune to mind affecting in the late game. Usually only Gallus, or the Locust Swarm enemies. Balors & Mariliths for example are all prime targets, including 2 of the 3 main Demon Lords you fight in the game! For the late game immune enemies, I suggest you go with the Grandmaster's Rod, because that lets you bypass their immunity just fine 😁
Is there a way to keep Nenio in her Human form? I noticed you had her on lvl 20 but with her Human form portrait.. If this was possible, it would be great, as the furry fox archetype isn't really appealing to me.

Prohibited Schools work in a different way in Pathfinder than D&D 3.5, you can actually cast spells of your Prohibited School (unless you are a Thassilonian Specialist). The downside is they cost TWO slots to prepare instead of just one!
I did not get a secret feat at first loremaster lv (lv 11), only an extra spell. How come ? This means I now don't have greater spell penetration like in your build.
Im a bit torn between this or going two blooded sorc for one Level to get fey+x for additional feat and the buff for Illusion magic. What do you think?
To me, it would depend on when you get that level. Sure, a boost to Illusion can be nice, but remember if you get it before level 17, you are also delaying Nenio's Wizard Spellcasting Progression by a whole level. So she'll only get Weird at level 18 instead of 17, for example. I personally really don't enjoy having delays in spellcasting unless on my main, merged mythic character who receive a boost from their mythic levels to spellcasting.
I used to be stingy with scrolls as I kept wanting to conserve them for future use. But then I realize it's very easy and simple to just craft more and more per rest!
Hi there, unless I'm wrong, a flat footed character will lose their DEX bonus to AC. And Hellfire Ray, as a ranged touch attack targets the enemy Ranged Touch AC, which does have their DEX added to it in the calculation. So by losing their DEX bonus to AC, you'll hit them easier with Ranged Touch Attacks.
It's all about buffing! Through spells and also domain abilities such as Visions of Madness & Guarded Hearth. My nenio does something like 11 damage with quaterstaff so can only really use her as a buffer/damage caster. Hopefully that video you recommended will help me make her more dangerous.
Love the guides. But as a new player the spoilers in them kinda suck. Maybe you could be more mindful in the future? E.g. Imagine you just picked up Nenio, awesome new character, come here to find out what a scroll savant is and how to... oh she's secretly a fox?! Or you want to build Seelah as a shield basher, so you check out the shield basher guide and cool feats and... the video starts spoiling future areas. Instead maybe just list the favoured terrain picks? Instead of describing why. Again, love the guides. These are the best guides I've found and you do great work. But it's a minefield of spoilers as a new player and it sucks.
Hi there, I apologize for that. The issue with Nenio is that you have to respec her to show her full build progression, and once you do it, she will always revert back to her Kitsune form (including portraits) during the level up process at least. I suppose I could have added a blur filter to her portrait or something, I'll keep it in mind for the future! It's why I tried to go with her human form in the video thumbnail, but as far as in game, unfortunately I don't have control over it.

If you mean STR, DEX, CON Etc: You can get +4 Cooking to all stats by getting the Conflagrant Taco Recipe at Iz during Chapter 5. Shattered Defenses lets you catch the enemy Flat Footed, which denies them of their DEX bonus to AC. Ranged Touch spells like Hellfire Ray target the enemy's Ranged Touch AC, which is increased based on their DEX. So Flat Footed + Ranged Touch = easier to hit/less AC because of no DEX bonus.
@@cRPGBro right still I don't think the dip into loremaster is all that worth it since you can get almost everything except shattered defense by going 20 level into wizard, especially with the 2 extra feats you're gonna get anyways(3 if you count for the fact you had to pick skill focus in the first place) you get couple of resistances sure but nothing game changing. Plus I enjoyed putting Mass Icy Prison and Sirocco so Elemental Focus is kinda important for that and Loremaster doesn't give you that after you've taken the Wizard Feat. But interesting build non the less keep up the good work!
Loremaster allows you to bypass feat requirements and get almost any feat in the game. You can also use it for spells from other classes such as Druid & Cleric (something that was still bugged when this build was made, but now works correctly).
Hi there, for Unfair what you really need to do is reduce the enemy's Saving Throws. It's not just a matter of stacking DC, you have have to debuff their saves. I have a guide here explaining how to do that even for Unfair: czcams.com/video/4GYV0y9NreY/video.html For example, Evil Eye + Visions of Madness alone at level 15 mean -11 to all saves, and these effects work 100% as they don't require a save themselves for the debuff to hit. There is also gear at that level, such as the Display of Power Belt for -2 to Will aura, and Frightful Aspect buff for -2 to all saves aura as well. You should also use both Persistent + Heighten for Phantasmal Killer so the enemy has to roll twice thus highly increasing the chances of it working.
Skald Rage will block spells until the capstone ability at level 20. Simply go to your ability tab above the hotbar, then deselect "Accept Rage", which lets Nenio cast her spells while your other allies are affected with Rage. I disagree, scroll Savant is an awesome class, if you take 10 levels only like this guide. You can bypass a specialist Wizard weakness of Nenio in Abjuration and Necromancy schools using two slots by scribing schools in those schools. You need Enervation? Scribe a scroll and use it at Full caster level, same with Dispel or any abjuration Buff. Scroll Savant even gives her access to full power mass heal and heal if you buy those scrolls, so she can act as a cleric when needed.
persistent phantasmal killer makes it a level 6 spell, one enemy needs to fail two saves for a instakill, there's 6th level spells that are better than that?
Well, level 6 is actually one of the most stacked spell levels in the game. Persistent PK is great indeed for instant death. Sirocco is amazing for AoE CC and can deal some good damage as well. Hellfire Ray is the best non Mythic single target damage spell, and can even crit!
Okay, there is something very wrong about this build and is that it shouldn't actually work, illusion spells should be useless against high level demons because of their innate True Seeing meaning they should automatically know that is an illusion hence they should instantly disbelief the effect of any and all illusion spells and in the case of Phantasmal Killer just take the minimal amount of damage so i think this build success is the result of an exploit or a very heavy oversight on the part of the developers either that or the Grandmaster's Rod just lets you ignore it which would be strange to say the least as True Seeing isn't an immunity, on the other hand why the flipping fuck you pick ray spells while completely ignoring Point-blank and Precise Shot?
Because the only reason we want rays is for Hellfire Ray due to the absurd single target damage - and by the time Nenio can learn Hellfire Ray and Hellfire Ray starts dealing good damage so around level ~15 you have enough +AB boosts from buffs that the lack of Point Blank & Precise Shot does not matter at all, especially when it targets the enemy's Ranged Touch AC which is way lower than their normal AC.
I’ll really hate Nenio as a character. I never take her into my group. I understand she is a useful character but her shit dialogue and quests are not worth it.

Nenio Written Guide:
10 Scroll Savant (get all 10 of SS before starting the 10 in Loremaster), 10 Loremaster (Be sure to buy scroll scribing kits and craft scrolls while resting, and use your scrolls! They’re honestly pretty plentiful, especially with crafting.)
Skills: Knowledge/Lore Skills, UMD (Focus on Knowledge/Lore skills first unless one or more of those is already covered by your MC/regularly used party members; in that case take the points that you would have used in that Knowledge/Lore Skill and put them into UMD)
Level 4: +INT, Skills, Level 2 Spells (Grease, Glitterdust)
For any spells listed in the guide, keep in mind that Nenio can write spells from scrolls into her spell book; if you find scrolls for any of the suggested spells in this guide, write them into her spellbook before taking the level that would give you these spells and use the freed up slots for other spells (either another of those that are suggested or just others that you personally find useful/suit your party specifically)
Level 5: Skills, Metamagic (Heighten Spell), Level 3 Spells (Haste, Heroism; Greater Magic Weapon if you already have someone with Heroism)
Personally I think that the best spells to use this on would be her Illusion spells given that's what she focuses on (i.e. Heighten Phantasmal Killer as soon as possible; the higher the DC on that the better, but maybe hold off on heightening when you first reach higher caster levels as you don’t want to fill up ALL of your high level spell slots to the point where you can’t use your “actual” high level spells. Once you get more slots in those levels (either from level ups or Abundant Casting), feel free to heighten all you want). Absolutely get haste by this point unless your MC/a merc you’re using is/will become capable of casting it themselves; the only other companion IIRC that can cast haste as well is Woljif, and even for him its only personal unless you get the Infusion medical discovery (This is assuming you’re doing 4 ES/16 Vivi on him)
Level 6: Skills, Level 3 Spells (Displacement, Blur)
Level 7: Skills, Metamagic (Persistent Spell) [Use on CC Spells/other powerful spells with saves; can combo with Heighten, keep in mind this increases CL on the spell by +2 on top of whatever level you heighten the spell to], Level 4 Spells (Phantasmal Killer (Priority #1 with Heighten/Persistent Spell), Greater Invisibility)
Level 8: +INT, Skills, Level 3 Spells (Stinking Cloud [Only prep 1 copy b/c demon immunity], Scorching Ray)

good build. I'd make one change, at level 13, give Nenio Selective Spell and Precise shot from her lore secret. That way when you're casting pit spells and hellfire ray, Nenio doesn't eat the entire party or miss every shot.

I would have gone with selective spell sooner. Having an aoe that your guys can walk through while the enemy has to save or suck is very strong. Or just not having to be precise with the glitter dust is cool. A Nenio with a trickster MC could in theory have a selective spell Polar Midnight. Pretty good. Not the biggest deal for the trash encounters but for hard encounters that's a lot.
Selective Spell can indeed be useful, it's just that my parties tend to be quite melee centric so often I just rush the enemies while prebuffed instead of bothering with AoE spells, besides the early game where I spam Grease & Glitterdust.
She can learn Phantasmal Web, which already is a Selective Web ++, that benefits from your illusion spell focus. Not as useful as prone, but great to open battles and keep the enemies in their places
@@Microondah I find Phantasmal Web to be much more useful than Phantasmal Putrefaction.
With the Librarian’s Cloak and Specialist belt Nenio can cast spells from scrolls as five levels higher. You can’t buy scrolls written with extend but if Nenio or another writes a scroll round per level scroll with the extend metamagic then Nenio could turn it into a 24 hour buff. She can get to level 29 with Phantasmal Guide and School Mastery but I’m not sure if it is worth it.

Takes a bit of setting up, but after that, it's always great to see them instantly defeated by it.
Back in the days of D&D there used to be a lot more spells like this such as Finger of Death, Destruction & Wail of the Banshee, which just deal damage now.
I always end up greasing myself 😆. In the final battle of chapter 1 I greased my whole team except Lann and Daeran. Then after we won the battle they were all still stuck on the ground and I had to wait 10 real life minutes. Even Woljif who casted the spell and had +14 to reflex saving throws was stuck until the greased despawned. Then people are saying they are going to do a play of my character and how heroic he was in defeating the demons when he was laying on the ground covered in grease doing nothing 😂
Yeah, that can end up happening with Grease 😀
It's why it pays to cast it at the edge of the hostile circle, so it only hits the enemies while giving you a decent enough window to move and attack.
Sorry to necro this, but I once spent 7 straight minutes trying to get out of 2 Grease pools I had cast during the duel in Valerie's personal quest in Kingmaker. Poor Harrim couldn't take a single step without crashing to the ground.
I simply bought 4 scrolls of Freedom of Movement for the main melee. Greased everything and watched them fall on their ass all day long while eating popcorn. 4 scrolls 2800. Fights: priceless 👌

I found that Nenio kinda builds herself. I also went 10 SS and 10 LM. I didn't go that much into ray spells and I picked enchantments instead of conjuration. But either way you build her in the end the weird spells make her powerful as hell. She's one of my favorite companions in the game because besides being very versatile and useful I find her banter hilarious.
Yeah, in some ways Nenio can be a straightfoward character to build indeed.
Just need to pay attention to some feats, especially the metamagic ones that weren't in Kingmaker like Persistent Spell.
phantasmal putrefication is amazing for the level u get it at, it can save your ass in many spots, it used to be my mvp in blackwater before dungeon got rebalanced and demons got more reasonable there
also top tier in ivory sanctum where it ofren takes a bit for enemies to come after you for one reason or another
You can pick a guaranteed glitter dust and see invis in the basement in Market Square with the cold demon (along with a nice longbow for someone). Because she can scribe glitterdust I would go with Blur.

I never went this build because I did not know Greater grandmaster Rod help to overcome fear/mind-affecting immunity :) thanks. 6/5 I was an arcane trickster + 1 lvl cross blooded sorc, and that is fine, but I really think this build is better. (I will miss my 200dmg lvl 2 scorching rays tough)
Yeah, Grandmaster's Rod bypassing fear immunity also blew my mind back then, I had no idea it could work that way until I heard someone talking about it.
At first glance you probably only think it bypasses damage resistance/immunity, but it's so much more!
Glad you enjoyed the build, I personally prefer it like this because I don't like multiclassing at all on my casters as it delays spell progression.

I apologize for that, it's just that once the secret is out of the bag, whenever you attempt to respec Nenio (which is needed for the Build Guide), she'll always go back to her true form, including portrait in the build screen, so not much that can be done I'm afraid.

Only thing I do different is use scaling cantrips mod and put that on auto, casters with ranged weapons is immersion breaking if you ask me.
1 question - Isn't it much better to take a Rogue Secret: Combat Trick -> Precise Shot? Love your guides and you have a great voice for it!
I don't bother with Precise Shot because the reality is this Nenio is more about CC and Buffs, Precise would only really help her with Hellfire Ray, but by the time that becomes good damage, you already have enough +AB buffs to increase its chances of hitting, as it targets Touch AC.
Nenio can melee with the Bardiche that treats INT for AB/Damage too which is really fun.

Thoughts on picking up Enduring Spells and Greater Enduring Spells at lvl 4-5 mythic and then picking up what you suggested from lvl 6?
Nenio is my only character with Heroism and Greater Heroism, which to my knowledge is a spell that neither Camellia or Daeran gets access to. (My other Greater Enduring buffers.)
You can certainly pick them earlier for longer buffs!
I usually go with a custom Skald nowadays who gets Good Hope for party wide Heroism and +2 to damage even!

1. Seelah for Mark of Justice + Horse and some Divine support like Bestow Grace, Aura of Greater Courage and Greater Magic Weapon
2. Sosiel for pet + Domain Abilities
3. Camellia for great buffs from her Spellbook and most importantly, Hexes
4. A Skald Merc for massive melee party wide support
Last slot changes based on my main character class and so on, usually it's either Daeran for more Divine Spells (since I run melee heavy parties with pets and Daeran can get Abundant + Enduring Spells, unlike Sosiel who is first stuck with a lot of Impossible Domains as his Mythic Abilities, plus Daeran also gets a pet.
Besides Daeran, a ranged character like Lann, Wenduag or Aru!
Nice Nice, I was wondering if with the changes to Loremaster caster level if she'd gravitate towards 10/10 instead of 15/5 or 20 scroll savant.
Do you know why my Loremaster levels don't add to the initial caster level of a crafted scroll? Very weird that yours do, I'm stuck at cl 10 for everything with her.
I'm not sure about the reason for the scroll level, but I imagine it might be a bug.
Loremaster used to "eat" one of your caster levels before a patch, so you got 9/10 casting progression, as the first level was lost.
Now they fixed that for spells and CL, but maybe it remains for scroll crafting.

...if at level 11 for Nenio I take one level of a Crossblooded Sorcerer, choose Fey Bloodline twice (it is possible at least in 1.1.7), then pick 2 feats for the Enchantment school, then take Bloodline Ascendance - Fey...
and then Expanded Arsenal to Illusion.
What would be Nenio's Illusion DC in this case? Because every Fey bloodline increases DC of the spells of "compulsion subschool" by 2, so it's +2 * 3 = +6 at least.
The only problem is that a subschool may not apply to the whole school for Expanded Arsenal.
I have never tried it this way, but I do also wonder if bonuses that aren't to a main school will work with Expanded Arsenal.
Certainly requires some testing!

Need your advice on the functionality of magician's ring, it seems very bugged to me:
The DC bonus is not added directly to the spell DCs in your spellbook to begin with, as opposed to amulet of clarity, one can simply tests it by put them on and off and see if those dc numbers change.
And another question, why is robe of mephistopheles is recommended for azata? where the synergy comes from for Nenio?
Magician's Ring is a bit different from Clarity Amulet.
Ring only increases DC of Illusion spells by +2, Amulet is +2 to ALL mind affecting spells, including Enchantment spells for example.
I believe it is working at the moment, try to equip the ring and you'll see an increase in Phantasmal Killer DC for example.
The Robe of Mephisto is good because it has a aura that inflicts -4 to the saves of enemies against fear effects, and the instant death spells that Nenio has, Phantasmal Killer & Weird, are fear spells.

Is it worth getting precise shot for hellfire ray? I'm trying this build, but my DC seems to be too low for offensive spells like phantasmal killer. I"m level 16. Perhaps duffing first is needed. Unfortunately I don't have much of the gear in your video.
I don't think it is, because by the time you can cast Hellfire Ray you already have enough buffs to increase your ranged touch attack.

Hi there, and welcome aboard!
To apply Metamagic to your spells, check your Spellbook by pressing "B".
There should be a section there called "Metamagic" at bottom left.
Then you can choose the spells & metamagic you want by clicking on the spell then the little circles on the upper left side, depending on what metamagic feats you have.
For prepared casters, you'll have to then slot the metamagic version of the spell to cast it.
For spontaneous casters, they can just do it at will, but require a full round action (6s) to cast the metamagic spell.

I prefer Scimitars because they have higher Critical Range than Longswords (15-20 instead of 17-20 with Improved Critical).
This helps a lot when it comes to generating Attacks of Opportunity by stacking Teamwork Feats that work based on Critical Hits.
There are also many great Scimitars in the game, more than Longswords in my opinion.
Longswords are still a solid choice, however. And remember, you can always use Finnean before upgraded Radiance!

No selective spell? I think its better to use selective grease (forexample) than grease with +1 difficulty on roll
This is great! But all her illusion spells are mind affecting and a huge percentage of demons and enemies are immune to mind affecting. So I end up just having Nenio use scrolls to heal or buff which I don't like doing with Nenio. Do you suggest anything to overcome that?

Actually, not that many demons are immune to mind affecting in the late game.
Usually only Gallus, or the Locust Swarm enemies.
Balors & Mariliths for example are all prime targets, including 2 of the 3 main Demon Lords you fight in the game!
For the late game immune enemies, I suggest you go with the Grandmaster's Rod, because that lets you bypass their immunity just fine 😁
Is there a way to keep Nenio in her Human form? I noticed you had her on lvl 20 but with her Human form portrait.. If this was possible, it would be great, as the furry fox archetype isn't really appealing to me.

Once you find out about her "secret" you can just switch back and forth between the forms at will, it's a default Kitsune race ability.

They do quire micromanaging, but they can be very satisfying too!

Why abjuration spells though, like stoneskin communal? Its her prohibited school so she can't cast them right? Or am I missing something?
Prohibited Schools work in a different way in Pathfinder than D&D 3.5, you can actually cast spells of your Prohibited School (unless you are a Thassilonian Specialist).
The downside is they cost TWO slots to prepare instead of just one!

To me, it would depend on when you get that level.
Sure, a boost to Illusion can be nice, but remember if you get it before level 17, you are also delaying Nenio's Wizard Spellcasting Progression by a whole level.
So she'll only get Weird at level 18 instead of 17, for example.
I personally really don't enjoy having delays in spellcasting unless on my main, merged mythic character who receive a boost from their mythic levels to spellcasting.

Correct me if Im wrong, but you said that shatter defenses helps hit with Hellfire ray, but don't hellfire ray target touch AC and not Flatfooted?
Hi there, unless I'm wrong, a flat footed character will lose their DEX bonus to AC.
And Hellfire Ray, as a ranged touch attack targets the enemy Ranged Touch AC, which does have their DEX added to it in the calculation.
So by losing their DEX bonus to AC, you'll hit them easier with Ranged Touch Attacks.

Love the guides. But as a new player the spoilers in them kinda suck. Maybe you could be more mindful in the future?
E.g. Imagine you just picked up Nenio, awesome new character, come here to find out what a scroll savant is and how to... oh she's secretly a fox?!
Or you want to build Seelah as a shield basher, so you check out the shield basher guide and cool feats and... the video starts spoiling future areas. Instead maybe just list the favoured terrain picks? Instead of describing why.
Again, love the guides. These are the best guides I've found and you do great work. But it's a minefield of spoilers as a new player and it sucks.

The issue with Nenio is that you have to respec her to show her full build progression, and once you do it, she will always revert back to her Kitsune form (including portraits) during the level up process at least.
I suppose I could have added a blur filter to her portrait or something, I'll keep it in mind for the future!
It's why I tried to go with her human form in the video thumbnail, but as far as in game, unfortunately I don't have control over it.

How did you get all your stats that high?
If you mean STR, DEX, CON Etc:
You can get +4 Cooking to all stats by getting the Conflagrant Taco Recipe at Iz during Chapter 5.
You can also get the INT Tome for +2 Inherent INT to Nenio at Chapter 5 ( or 3 if Angel) in Pullura's Fall as I show here:

Other stats are mostly +4 Enhancemen from Animal buffs, and also Frightful Aspect/Legendary Proportions.

Nenio only has one use per spell when I fight, am I doing something wrong?
Is she level drained or hit with an INT debuff/ability damage or drain?
Have you prepared the spells in her spellbook?
wait. At level 15, doesn't Ranged Touch spells already hit the enemies touch AC? why do you need Shattered Defenses???
Shattered Defenses lets you catch the enemy Flat Footed, which denies them of their DEX bonus to AC.
Ranged Touch spells like Hellfire Ray target the enemy's Ranged Touch AC, which is increased based on their DEX.
So Flat Footed + Ranged Touch = easier to hit/less AC because of no DEX bonus.

still I don't think the dip into loremaster is all that worth it since you can get almost everything except shattered defense by going 20 level into wizard, especially with the 2 extra feats you're gonna get anyways(3 if you count for the fact you had to pick skill focus in the first place)
you get couple of resistances sure but nothing game changing.
Plus I enjoyed putting Mass Icy Prison and Sirocco so Elemental Focus is kinda important for that and Loremaster doesn't give you that after you've taken the Wizard Feat.
But interesting build non the less

@@disk3001 you get 3 more feats going lore master instead of keeping scroll savant. It’s a pure upgrade to her class.
So I have to ask, why the lore master? I thought that prestige classes in PF1e are rather bad?
Loremaster allows you to bypass feat requirements and get almost any feat in the game.
You can also use it for spells from other classes such as Druid & Cleric (something that was still bugged when this build was made, but now works correctly).

at lvl 15 i have 35 DC Phantasmal killer (lvl 8 highten) and its just not working at all on unfair (A 4)

Hi there, for Unfair what you really need to do is reduce the enemy's Saving Throws.
It's not just a matter of stacking DC, you have have to debuff their saves.

For example, Evil Eye + Visions of Madness alone at level 15 mean -11 to all saves, and these effects work 100% as they don't require a save themselves for the debuff to hit.
There is also gear at that level, such as the Display of Power Belt for -2 to Will aura, and Frightful Aspect buff for -2 to all saves aura as well.
You should also use both Persistent + Heighten for Phantasmal Killer so the enemy has to roll twice thus highly increasing the chances of it working.

Skald Rage will block spells until the capstone ability at level 20.
Simply go to your ability tab above the hotbar, then deselect "Accept Rage", which lets Nenio cast her spells while your other allies are affected with Rage.

I disagree, scroll Savant is an awesome class, if you take 10 levels only like this guide.
You can bypass a specialist Wizard weakness of Nenio in Abjuration and Necromancy schools using two slots by scribing schools in those schools. You need Enervation? Scribe a scroll and use it at Full caster level, same with Dispel or any abjuration Buff.
Scroll Savant even gives her access to full power mass heal and heal if you buy those scrolls, so she can act as a cleric when needed.
pit spells annoy me because i accidentally get too close, all the time. i don't like that mechanic...
persistent phantasmal killer makes it a level 6 spell, one enemy needs to fail two saves for a instakill, there's 6th level spells that are better than that?
Well, level 6 is actually one of the most stacked spell levels in the game.
Persistent PK is great indeed for instant death.
Sirocco is amazing for AoE CC and can deal some good damage as well.
Hellfire Ray is the best non Mythic single target damage spell, and can even crit!

Okay, there is something very wrong about this build and is that it shouldn't actually work, illusion spells should be useless against high level demons because of their innate True Seeing meaning they should automatically know that is an illusion hence they should instantly disbelief the effect of any and all illusion spells and in the case of Phantasmal Killer just take the minimal amount of damage so i think this build success is the result of an exploit or a very heavy oversight on the part of the developers either that or the Grandmaster's Rod just lets you ignore it which would be strange to say the least as True Seeing isn't an immunity, on the other hand why the flipping fuck you pick ray spells while completely ignoring Point-blank and Precise Shot?
Because the only reason we want rays is for Hellfire Ray due to the absurd single target damage - and by the time Nenio can learn Hellfire Ray and Hellfire Ray starts dealing good damage so around level ~15 you have enough +AB boosts from buffs that the lack of Point Blank & Precise Shot does not matter at all, especially when it targets the enemy's Ranged Touch AC which is way lower than their normal AC.
Nenio left my ass. I think in Act 1. Not sure why.

You can always use the Toy box mod to recruit her again. Not cheating if your correcting a bug or a big misclick.
I’ll really hate Nenio as a character. I never take her into my group.
I understand she is a useful character but her shit dialogue and quests are not worth it.
