Snowball is underrated as a level 1 spell: bypass spell resistance, can stun, and scales better than magic missile especially with sneak attacks. Just need to hit touch AC which isn't too hard.
Phantasmal Killer is my favorite. Love how some of the spells listed will straight up kill you without too much fanfare, but Illusion magic is some of the scariest shit ever when you read their descriptions.
I am missing Resist Energy Communal on the list 🙂 It's very much a game changer on some optional encounters early game (especially when bumped to CL7 with Exploiter Wizard) and pretty much obligatory all the way until the end.
Stoneskin Communal is a prime candidate for being scribed by Nenio, you can start doing so at the start of Chapter 3 with 100% success even if she's only capable of casting level 4 spells by then. Lets you cast it several levels earlier and with no material costs.
Honestly winter's grasp is op for early game. At least on core. I love stacking 2 or of them on top of each other for encounters with large groups of enemies and just wait till they freeze to death lol.
Hi there! For Core and below, you don't need a Skald, and the party members I recommend in my Best Party Guide: Sosiel, Camellia, Daeran & Seelah are good enough by themselves.
I'd say even for lower difficulties you still need an Arcane caster for haste, which pretty much forces Nenio the Fearmonger in. Or keep Woljif as full Eldrich Scoundrel. OR (!) make Lann an Empyreal Sorcerer 😅- who knows, might be fun 🙂

It would be cool if there were more guides on more niche spells/archetypes/builds, them being niche and thus harder to use makes it very difficult for newbies like myself to have fun with, but I would love to try.
super surprised you didnt include the shout spell. in my lich run i shunned going spell penetration, and shout is a very nice filler spell between the early level abilities (like grease/glitterdust) up to the more powerful aoe's (like hungry flesh). for some reason it ignores SR, but the upgraded version ki shout is subjected to SR for some reason. maybe something owlcat screwed up on but i abuse it :P its a great spell because its very rare that an enemy is both prone and paralyze immune.

Worth noting that polymorph spells working with legendary proportions is a bug (at least as far as pathfinder rules are concerned) - size bonuses and polymorph spells are mutually exclusive RAW and should overwrite one another.
Missing Snowball I gotta say. It's useful early game and can still be useful lategame when you face those occasional golem type enemies that are immune to magic damage.
you skipped battering blast! level 3. no level cap. With BB and scorching ray, I feel you also missed an important point. those multihit spells, and scaling. Its not just they get more hits, but they scale with things like Mark of justice better, sword of heaven, sneak attack, etc. anything that ADDS flat damage per hit. like Magic missile getting 5 hits. magic missile with level 20 mark of justice, adds 20 damage to EACH hit. (empowered MM scales that mark of justice by 50% too) Ring of sacred touch adds 1d6 holy on ranged touch, for example. so scorching ray with 3 attacks adds 3d6. snowball with 1 attack, only gets 1. (edit, you mention the extra damage factor with hellfire ray, but its really those low level spells where its so very important, and keeps them viable.) skipped others of course too. the pits/rift spells. polar ray? sure polar ray gets outclassed by hellfire ray, but to skip it an mention stormbolts? Wracking ray. especially empowered or maximized. ranged touch DEBUFF. this is very strong. Can really wreck many enemies attack, ac, and reflex saves.
I am personally offended that i don’t see Caustic Eruption on the list xD as it is propably my favourite spell and is pretty bonkers when set up properly, in my eyes better than chain lightning but yeah it requires a bit of setup as it targets everyone around you. Still i finished multiple playthroughs focused around that spell and its absolutely amazing.
Hey really love your builds but could you make some off-meta builds that may not be viable for unfair but is very viable for core and below? I myself play on normal and will increase the difficulty in subsequent playthroughs. However I don't see myself going beyond core. So It'd be great if you made some builds that are not totally min maxed and are more RP friendly?
Sure! A lot of the more pure class builds should suffice, I think. Skald 20 for example is a favorite pick for the main character due to the lack of party members.
RE: Heightened Hideous Laughter vs Mind Fog - you forget that Mind Fog is an AOE, and makes it even easier to get off your Weird spells. It's a great spell to combine with Selective Spell Metamagic. Hideous Laughter is good for shutting down one enemy but a Mind Fog can let your Nenio kill off large crowds of enemies with ease.
Question about Buffing: Witch spells do you replace with stronger versions as you level up and witch you keep for all time? Like Mage Armor I guess you keep all time but Blur replace with Displacement etc. One more question about Buffing: Do you Buff your pets with Legendary Proportions and someone who ride a pet with Frightful Aspect if so do you stop buffing pets with Animal Growth?
I have a major noob question: How does one properly use Grease? It's nice that enemies fall prone, but you can't run up and hit them or else your guys will likely fall over too DX
Have characters with reach weapons/size increases is my favorite way because then you can attack decently outside the puddle. I also prefer to to aim it properly (with CTRL so it doesn't snap to the enemy) after the tank has engaged the enemies. You can also use Selective Metamagic so it doesn't hit your own allies, and Freedom of Movement later for immunity too.
I love how he praises "world destroying" level 9 spells from bg2... In DnD lvl9 is max because magical development went so fast that after Karsus developed 1st ever lvl 12 spell he managed to freaking traumatise gods to the point of crippling magic itself to heavily restrict mortals ability to use it xD

Too bad gargoyles are immune to grease. That cave encounter while recruiting Regill is easily the hardest fight of act 2 and one of the hardest fights of the whole game. I wouldn't mind making it a bit less frustrating.

Mind Fog was pretty useful on my demon run with aspects of succubus and colloxus. There was no way they would save against nenio's wierds after THAT.

Not including Sirocco is a mistake. It's one of the strongest simultaneously CC and aoe dmg spells in the game.

It's one of the best combat spells in the game (if not THE best, can kill demon lords in 1 cast with right build)

Sorc is my favored class since BG1. Not op as in baldurs gate in Pathfinder. But still damn fun to play

You dont replace Blur because Enduring Spell makes it 24 hours. Animal Growth stacks with everything so cast it anyway.
