    I'm guessing that I'll be doing the same thing but on the opposite side because I'm from the states. Thanks for the tutorial. Wish me luck, hopefully I don't run into any complications haha

    Hello there! I cannot explain my appreciation that you made and published this disassembly process, by this I gathered the confidence to do the same on my MK2 too, reason is the speedo spiral popped out after a little work under the hood.
    On EU version cars (steering wheel left hand side) it is a real pain to pop it off / put it back to the panel as there's no space for the hand, I had to reach it from the fuse box..
    I have a question by the way, is your heater control light works? If no do you have any ideas how to replace it without breaking the plastic pieces?
    Regards!

      Hi, thanks for watching.
      Yes the heater control light works, but that is only because I broke it open years ago and fitted an LED. Back then all I could get was coloured LEDs, so I used a red one, it gives some light but is only dim. I have looked at replacing it since with a brighter white one and was going to make a video this time, but when I looked again I remembered how difficult it was to bodge it so have left it as it is. I had to resolder the plastic together with a soldering iron after fitting the LED. but having the dim light makes a lot of difference over no light when driving at night, as it is impossible to see the controls. Worth breaking open, but a ball ache to install and repair the dam thing! thanks.

    To replace the lcd do you need to dismantle the dials? Needles off etc

    Where can i find a blank switch to adapt a circuit like the one on the top right corner with a light?

    • @ifitsgotwheels
      @ifitsgotwheels  Před 2 lety

      Probably only from the likes of someone who's breaking a car on ebay these days, as at the scrappers would rarely be selling these cars for parts these days, as on the rare chance they got one now, i think they would probably go straight to the crusher unfortunately.

    I have 92 golf. my dashboard light only one work and the other two are not working. So, I decided to replace them all with regular light bulbs. the one that were not working still did not work even with new bulbs. i replaced the fuse and still not working. what else can I check?
    thanks

    • @ifitsgotwheels
      @ifitsgotwheels  Před 8 lety +1

      +anwar bunorah hi, first of all even though they are new bulbs swap a working one with a none working one just to make sure it is not any faulty new bulbs. The next bit is to make sure the bulb contacts are actually making contact with the circuit as sometimes the metal prongs don't quite reach! you may have to bend the bulb prongs slightly or try lightly scratching the surface on the circuit board contact. Otherwise it's likely there is a small break in the flexible circuit/vdo board. with a multimeter it may be possible to check the continuity between the bulb locations, if you can connect it to the car it may also be possible to check for 12volts at each one in turn, but probably difficult to get the multimeter prongs onto it whilst in the car. difficult to look for breaks in the circuit by eye, but you might be able to flex the circuit a little to see if they flash on when you do, as this would indicate a break in those areas. I don't know how good these boards last. If all else fails you may need to find a replacement! thanks

    Hey, good video, do you know if this would thereabouts be the same for a mark 1 caddy, '89- with exception of how to remove the switches... Also would mark2 clocks fit the caddy too?

    • @ifitsgotwheels

      Hi that was an LED for an alarm installed by a previous owner. We choose to install a fresh LED on top of the dash though as this can be seen better (day or night).

    Any ideas why my rev counter needle has started flickering wildly while the car is running?

    • @ifitsgotwheels
      @ifitsgotwheels  Před 10 lety

      I am not sure, but if the rev counter is crazy when the engine is cold then it is worth changing the temperature sensor (please see my other vids), as they can sometimes be the cause.

    • @superspecky4eyes
      @superspecky4eyes Před 10 lety

      ifitsgotwheels It seems to do it whether the engine is hot or not. Ive heard it might be an earthing issue. Ive also noticed my MFA is non responsive also, possibly related?

    • @ifitsgotwheels
      @ifitsgotwheels  Před 10 lety

      ***** If it idles eratic hot or cold, then it is could be an air leak on the vacuum pipes (bad vacuum could be causing your MFA problem!? check back of the dash or in the engine bay clear/white pipe, plus other vacuum pipes) or the Idle Stabilisation Valve. Usually a good clean of the ISV with carb cleaner will do the trick. (& clean throttle body too.) Bad earths can cause all sorts of weird stuff, so cleaning up or testing any earths never does any harm.

    • @superspecky4eyes
      @superspecky4eyes Před 10 lety

      ifitsgotwheels The car runs perfectly, its just the dial that goes crazy. I will bear it in mind though. Cheers.
