- This Malcom Rail Centenary loco was a Hornby Club exclusive in 2022 but a few days ago, it appeared in Hornby's outlet store reduced from £85 to £59 so I went ahead and bought one.
Is this the Bargain it appears to be? Join me as I take a look.

Hello Dusty, thank you for this video which is interesting and entertaining, I enkoyed the 'Charles III' video too. I'm a member of the Hornby Club however when I found the 'Malcolm' loco in the outlet store the price quoted was, unfortunately, £89.
I am sorry, tried to get the video out as quick as possible, but it was a hectic week at work and by the time it went live the sale finished soon after, hopefully it will come round again. Anyway thanks for watching and taking the time to message
Looks good Matt.
She would look good with some matching coaches.
Next buy?
A DCC ready loco I presume?
Looks good on your layout.
Stay safe and happy modelling.

Yes 8 pin Dcc, I need to do myself a check list and make sure I cover all the points in my videos. Not sure about the coaches on this one, maybe some more up to date freight wagons, as always - Many thanks Mon
The Hornby Railroad range locos, usually below £100 are the best bargains around these days. Using the 3 foot rule they look fine, and you can add crew, sound and lighting quite easily. Better than paying nearly three times the price and getting something that doesn't work, as quite a few people have posted recently.
I've added sound and lighting to Hornby Railroad, Mallard A4, Class 47, 59, 90 and 121, a bit of weathering and they stack up pretty well.
I think this class 90 probably was from the railroad range, but enhanced with the livery, for sure I am looking more an more at customisation of 'cheaper' locos, Anyway, thank you for watching and taking the time to comment!
Sound pretty good, I need to look into weathering, not something I have tried, anyway thanks for watching and commenting !
A nice loco looks VFM ,don't know about the on \off switch on top spoils the realism .
hornby has been using it since their very first electric locos , you'd have thought 50 yrs would be enough time to revise it into something better
@@shakeyhandsshedmodelrailwa2494 thanks for replying sadly Hornby can be lazy and cheap at times . They gotta up their game.
And with all the locos I have had over the years, not seen this type of switch before, but I stand by my commentary, it is a feature that if you have overhead wires, you may wish to use, So why don't Hornby advertise? That said there is no reason the switch could be underneath or next to the decoder socket.
exactly it is lazy to keep putting it on the roof of every electric loco when it could be located on the base especially with todays electronics

great bargain but hornbys inatention to detail strikes again ,, why supply two nameplates for a loco that only has one on one side that could make a modeller inacurately glue one on each side
And recommended to fit with 'blue tack'. Thanks again for watching and taking the time to comment!
