    As a professional roller skater and someone who has been on skates for nearly 30 years, I am very privileged to wear some of the best skating equipment available. I wear Harlick boots and Roll-Line plates as my everyday skate and switch between indoor wheels and outdoor wheels depending on the surface I will be rolling on. However, it wasn’t always this way. I grew up skating on hand-me-downs and skates way too big for me, so I know a thing or two about making it work. With that being said, some skates are better than others and I want to try them all! I teach skaters from all over the world here on CZcams and on My Website: thatnicolefiore.com (see Discount code above)
    The idea for this series came from teaching my online classes and seeing all of the different skates everyone was wearing. I want to be the best teacher I can be and that involves being able to understand what each person is feeling to the best of my ability. So, when Volition Skate Co asked me if I wanted to try Sure-Grip Boardwalks…I said YES, absolutely! Sure-Grip is a great brand and these skates are recommended by almost everyone. The Boardwalks are an affordable skate, great for beginner roller skaters. So, I had to put them to the test!
    If you liked this video, please like and subscribe. I really appreciate it!
    Please let me know if you have any questions about this skate and let me know what skate you would like me to review next!

    Thanks for reviewing these mass market entry level skates. Hope this becomes a series and companies start sending them to you to review. Would love to see Golden Horse, the Moonlight brand, Moxi, Jackson, VNLA and Chaya reviews. 👍

    Thanks Nicole 😊 Great review, and I love my Sure-Grips. I sold my other skates and kept these. I love how the boot feels, the heel height and wheels. I skate more confidently in them. They’re also really pretty and the design is simple. I do essential drills on a smooth court, practice rolling with music, and go out on trails with these (with 65mm wheels).

      Comparatively, they’re more affordable. Right now, they’re roughly $130.

      Considering most “high quality” skates start at $500+ these are “inexpensive skates”. But you are right, $200 is not actually “inexpensive” for most people.

      With things like skating, you want something that is not going to kill your feet and will last for a while. If you start out with a 50-90 dollar skate, they’re normally not well made and they will hurt your feet. If you end up liking the sport, you’re gonna end up still investing money to upgrade the skate. It’s better to get a mid level skate that is good for beginners and intermediate skaters than purchasing a skate that will either be painful or break.

    Great review, Nicole! I’ve been skating boardwalks for the last year, and while I looooove them, I’m contemplating an upgrade. This review was so true to how the boardwalks work for me… so I’d be extremely curious to see what you have to say about the Golden Horse street magic skates!

    Hello!! I love your videos. They’re really helping in my quest to pick out my next pair of roller skates.
    Quick question: you said in your video that because the boot isn’t super stiff that holding deep edges or doing more advanced tricks isn’t the best idea. I’m a recreational skater who probably won’t be skating more than 3-4 hours a week, but I still want to slowly level up my skate game by trying some more advanced tricks and holding deeper edges. If I practice more advanced tricks on these skates for an hour at a time do you think I’d have any trouble with ankle pain, or would I be fine? If I purchase these skates I’d definitely swap out the wheels for Atom Pulse outdoor wheels since they have a square edge, and that’s what I’d primarily be skating on. :D I’m young (19), and a regular runner with strong legs and no ankle issues if that makes a difference.

    What would an upgrade to this be? I've been skating in these for two years (love em!) and am thinking about getting another pair of skates so I don't always have to change my wheels soft/hard.

    I notice the space between the wheels lengthwise is shorter than other skates. I watched a review where the person said they didn't know why they kept falling in these, compared to the Lolly. I think the Lollies have a longer wheelbase. I have the Moxi Panthers and I love them, but I want a trail skate (tired of switching the wheels/truck just to skate on the street). I think I'm going to get these! Great review!

    • @SensationallySilky
      @SensationallySilky Před 2 lety

      Wheelbase is determined by the size of the plate. Stock Lollies have long mounts (I figured this out after comparing my derby skates and my OG's to my Lollies because I noticed my agility was off - the Lollies have a LONG mount!)

    Hello Nicole! Thanks for this video!
    I wanted to ask you what brand of skates can you recommend to be able to do jumos and spins. I roller skated artistically when I was young, now I am doing it again and I need new skates. I saw there are many brands, indoor, outdoor or dancing but I don't know if they are all good for jumping professionally, what could you recommend? I am in the US, thank you!

    Those are cute!! The only thing I have from Sure Grip is the Gravity Glitter pink wheels (that I shaved all the paint off of because it kept flaking, and now they look amazing) and I have the red fame indoor wheels, (I only have 2 indoor sets of wheels but about 17 sets of outdoor wheels, I'm kind of a wheel hoarder lol) but I've been wondering about the boardwalk skates and their Stardust skates...

    • @SJisReading
      @SJisReading Před rokem

      VNLAs are decent skates! I have no experience with that particular skate, but it's essentially VNLA's version of this skate here.
      VNLAs are most popular for jam and shuffle skating, because they used to predominantly make jam skates (no heel, low top, no toe stop, indoor wheels). But when the skating boom of 2020 happened, and everyone started wearing colorful high top skates outdoors, they expanded their offerings.
      They're a perfectly safe choice.

  • @kashology
    @kashology Před 2 lety +2

    i just purchased these and i’m having a hard time figuring out if it’s too small or if it just needs to be broken in. i’m usually a size 7 in women’s and all the reviews said to size down one so i purchase a 5 men’s/6 women’s. the shoe fits length wise and when i’m just sitting around. no pain then. however, it’s a tight fit at the toes when i start moving around in them.

      You might try lacing your skates differently- a lattice or star pattern can be cute and give you the extra space you need. I started with my suregrips in a star and didn't realize how comfortable It was because of it. Best of luck!

    Hi Nicole! I have a question for you, I am a new roller skater and I love it! But I have trouble using the toe stop, is there a reason as to why the break is at the front and not the back?

    • @joe-uy6rv
      @joe-uy6rv Před 2 lety +3

      Hi, a skate noob here, the guides i watch say that its for the way roller skates are shaped, the heel makes you put weight on the front of your feet for better control and so its easier to use, also heels have a big role on safety too, they keep your body weight in the front so you dont roll backwards -which is the most dangerous type of accident-, hope that helped 😄

    Suregrip's nylon plates seem to be pretty tough. I've been on the very similar suregrip "Probe" plate for a few years and I weigh 120-130kilograms, the nylon definitely flexes but so far they're still intact despite fairly hard cornering and edges and bunny hops. Jumping on them has hurt my butt more than the skates 😬
    Could you review the Jackson recreational skates, the Vista and/or Mystique? It looks like it's their actual entry level artistic boot but in more colours? I'm looking to upgrade and Jackson is supposed to have a wider toebox which is great, but if their cheaper ones aren't strong enough for my weight I might have to go for a full-on figure skate boot... (I'll get local expert advice too, don't worry!)

      The Jackson Vista is amazing!! Would be great to get Nicole's thoughts on it - I have certainly loved skating on it the past few weeks and haven't felt held back at all (used to skated on Moonlight roller and in Moxi Lolly) - it's a lot stiffer and far more supportive and definitely has a wider toe box! I've really enjoyed it
