Being 53 and starting to skate now is very scary. I go out dressed like a toddler with knee, elbow, wrist pads and helmet. I feel foolish but I would feel more foolish hurting myself at this age! My goal is just be comfortable on the skates for now. Then after that, I want to be able to skate backwards like a pro :)
Not dressed like a toddler but like a responsible skater 😃. I hope your a having fun!
I can top that: additionally I have buttpads. I'm 30. Better be safe than sorry 😃😃😃
@@SandraP4123 I don't have buttpads, but somehow I have fake butt shorts around the house that are used to make your butt look bigger/rounder. So yeah, I'm skating in full protection and a very sexy rear view XD
Never give up on content creation i can skate but i still love to watch these videos my 7 year old sister can skate because of you keep going! ❤
Safety is absolutely sexy, and as an almost 30 yr old woman just learning idgaf if my neighbors judge my (over)protective gear lmao. I fell on my 3rd day and I totally would’ve quit if I didn’t have all my safety gear on. It gives me confidence
As a thirteen year old yes! I have social anxiety and my neighbors terrify me but this comment is very helpful 😂
Just started skating and my biggest issue is pure fear of falling. Your channel has been super helpful and I'm slowly progressing, actually skating along following your simple posture, bending and shifting weight rules. But I always start out my rides terrified that I'm going to fall.
welcome back friend! You're totally going to fall but as you build youre relationship with your body, you will fall less.😊 how are you liking it so far?
Yep can't avoid falling but it becomes less and less. Get some protective gear and a helmet
@DasiaDoesIt When I let go and actually skate without thinking too much its magic. I feel so free and I am totally hooked! Just need to get some more practice!
It may sound silly. But me personally im also really scared of falling because i know its gonna happen against my own terms, so before i put my skates on i like to fall just so i can like, idk get used to it. IK IT SOUNDS STUPID BUT IT HELPS ME 🤣🤣🤣🤣🙏❤️
Thank you for this video. I just started roller skating 2 weeks ago (a 53 year old new born baby LOL ). I won't give up till I reach my goal!!
I started back skating in May this year. Skating backwards was my biggest accomplishment and then I realized there’s so much more to learn 😂😂😅
In my twenties and thirties, I used to skate for hours outdoors. Now, approaching fifty, I decided to skate indoors for the first time in years. At first, I was a bit hesitant, afraid of falling, but I quickly got the hang of it. Now, I'm eager to get back outside and skate again. Thank you for your encouraging videos ❤️
Your vids are so helpful. I've been trying to skate since lockdown 2020 but ik part of the reason I haven't fully learned yet is inconsistency. You've inspired me today.
Just got back from doing a lap around the neighborhood (first time ever! Too scared/wobbly to do it before).
whoooooo!!! how was it?! Congratulations!
My biggest struggle is feeling sturdy and confident on my feet to handle when my balance is disrupted. A couple years ago, I was at a rink where someone ran into me and shoved me down. When I fell, I broke my elbow in 2 places. I really miss skating, but I’m so scared to get back into it
Recently got some skates from the thrift store. No protective gear so I’m just rolling around in my room
we love a thrifty resourceful queen.
This resonates so much with me...and I cannot thank you (and the mozzies...I feel your anguish here in Brisbane, Australia) enough. In March 2021 I was coward-punched in my face by a druggie neighbour and needed an intense facial reconstruction. (I joke and say my face is more expensive than Kim Kardashian as I have 3 titanium plates holding it together). I could have died. I have post-traumatic vertigo and a blown pupil in my right eye. I used to roller skate during primary, school high school and college. Just for fun.
My reason is I love the feeling. I want my freedom back and to feel the ocean breezes while I dork my way through re-learning the art of falling with style.
Your genuine honesty and unapologetic advice is just what I needed right now.
PS. Is 'protective gear' a pillow strapped to my butt? I'm 5ft 10 and need all the help I can get. Lolz.
I’m so sorry that the world has been unkind to you in this way.
I can’t imagine how challenging these past few years have been. I’m glad you’re here and I hope I can make your re-entry arrival in to the flow as smooth as possible. 😊
Also, you might be the first person I know in Australia! What’s your name? (No pressure)
Ps: Google ‘rollerskate butt turtle’. thank me later. ❤️🫶🏾
I am now 31 and just got my first pair of skates as a bday present to myself. I have been on the hunt for protective gear but as a plus size babe it’s hard to find pads that would fit
Thank you so much for this!!! Just got my 1st pair of Moxy Lollies & they’re by far the most comfortable skates I’ve ever worn.
I think my lollys are too tight. I got a 6 per the skate shop sizing and they hurt in the toe and when I turn it digs on my right arch .
I recently went skating,I loved it.Bought my own pair of skates, realized wow skates you rent at a skating rink are WAY HEAVIER.These ones I have, there comfortable, light weight, I’ve been practicing ever since they came out
Im really late to this, but I love your videos.
I started skating 2 or 3 years ago. I practiced a while but noticed I just can’t skate. Then I gave up but now I’m still super interested in skating, even though I can’t do it myself
This was so inspirational, it's like a TED Talk! I don't skate anymore, but this is the kind of pep talk what would make me run to get my gear and skates on. Love your channel!
Thanks for the inspiration. I'm 57 and just started. Got a pair you recommended (Papaison). I appreciate the reminder about not expecting to be able to skate like a pro without putting in the work. And because of you I'm practicing on my wood floors, just like you!!
Bought my daughter skates today 💗 got all the protective gear 😊
I hate mosquitoes more than any other creature
So I just got humbled by your wheels tutorial, took off the light up wheels I was excited bout, and put the original wheels back on! Now I feel more stable like when I was younger!
love how kind and realistic you are with your advice!
Love love love your content! Your voice is so calm and reassuring!! Also check your skate bearings this helped me a whole bunch!
im so glad I found your channel! I just bought my skates and I am very eager to learn and use them more :))
Love love these vidoes sis ❤❤
I use to skate when I was in elementary school I stop after that ,20 years later I have some little kids and now back on Riedell skates😅
You’re a great teacher! So Matter of Fact ! Love watching your videos!❤️
Just starting my journey and thank you for your videos, that’s helps me so much ❤️
So you helped me skate. I got really frustrated in the roller ring not knowing how to move. I watched one of your vids and i just flew off. Im really into skating now bc of you!
I am still learning how to skate backwards. Two weeks ago I fell backwards and hit my head. HARD. Now I have this fear. I'm trying to get past it but I'm not there yet.
Get a goog helmet i took my first fall on my tail bone took me out for 2 weeks so I got padded shorts my next back fall my tail bone was ok but my mid back hit hard and i got the wind back out of me bot times the sound of my helmet hitting the concrete echoed through the rink.
I haven't fallen in weeks but im still wearing all my safety gear. I will probably shed the shorts and shirt soon but not the rest. Im not afraid of falling due to the gear. Try upgrading your gear.
My favorite skate teacher ❤
your vdeos r so inofrtmative
I appreciate that! Welcome! I'll be diversifying topics a bit so if you don't catch the skating stuff thats okay, I'm sure I have something for you in the pipeline!
The mosquito 🦟 fight is real .
Reality check, had not skated in many, many years. Went to tennis courts and damn it was hard. Had moments of smooth, but I need practice. Never Give Up!!
Hey Dasia! I recently (past two weeks or so) got into skating after my girlfriend took me to the rink. She's a rhythm skater and pretty great at it. It sort of inspired me, and your videos have really been instrumental in helping my confidence to get out every day and skate. Thank you so much!
Hello! I am so glad that you're here! It's so cool that you and your girlfriend have a hobby you both enjoy with each other. How have you been enjoying it so far?
Why do i want to learn how to roller skate?
Daisa. I wanna be really cool like her i want people to see me skate by and be like 'wow shes really enjoying herself shes found something she likes.'
I got a beautiful pair of skates in august... the first day i threw my back out (no idea how, i didn't fall or anything), went back one more time after and ive been scared ever since. I was so excited to start but just feels like ill never get it right 😭😅 i just wanna be THAT gworl on skates lol send help and advice sis
im trying to learn to skate so i can play roller derby someday! would your course be good for that or are the fundamentals different for derby?
Love love love the color of these skates!
Wow! you are a beautiful human. I felt emotional when you were talking about being a newborn. your words of support and encouragement felt ...Feel like things I needed to hear from my mom and dad. I love your relaxed and cool steez! you are also quit a sexy woman. thanks for the videos, spiritual up lift and the teachings.✌
Agl, seen a super thicc sexy female skater on my IG reels last night and thought damn, I need get in on this. I used to skate as a kid (I sucked back then too) but the local rink was always hype. My dad was a phenom when it came to this. Fast forward 25 years and I bout to venture into it FOR REAL! Already watched your “how to skate in 7 minutes”…”skates on a budget for beginners”…THIS…and next will be the safety one. After learning how to ride a motorcycle and getting into bikelife, I see A LOT of similarities when it come to patience and confidence. When you said “information overload” I gasped because I believed that’s a REALLY BIG reason people have a tough time learning ANYTHING. So yeah, like you said…you’re trying to get as many people skating as possible, well add another one. After learning patience and understanding I won’t always succeed on the first try, it’s a lot easier to learn things (just like I did with motorcycles) Even if I don’t stick with it, I’m gonna at least know how to do the basics (just in case I go on a date I won’t look like a total goof) 😂
❤
People trying to sell their skates for almost the same price as the shops 😅
Ma’am, don’t call me out.
Yes I want to start everything for the very first time & be absolutely PERFECT. 🥺🫶🏽
It gets the best of us all.❤️
I'm deffinetely an EGO skater.
First thing i started to learn? Stopping? Nope. Turns? Naaah. Balance? Heeeell naaaah.
I got straight into going backwards. I figured it out even with super tight wheels - which was extremely hard. My main idea was "Uh-huh everyone says they can't go backwards even after 6 months-year. So if i learn i will be so much cooler than them. My progress will skyrocket!"
So i did learn it 😂 And here's the fun part: I can go backwards while not being able to controll my body at all.
So all i do now is balance exercises. And ofcourse i still don't know how to stop 😂
i just got my first skates today, found your channel, subscribed and you've posted again with exactly the advise I needed!
