Land Rover 110 Testing Coilover Suspension On Extreme 4x4 Rock Steps

- This was the first run for the Land Rover 110 County (Defender) with the new front coilover setup. Some very hard lines, big steps and soft undriven soil really tested the suspension and the Land Rover Defender as a whole. I was also experimenting with tyre pressures on the Maxxis Trepadors and ran 16psi on the day which is the highest I have run them offroad so far.
They are 12 inch King Coilovers but when I went to make the mounts I realised I could fit 14 inch coilovers. So I decided to build the towers for 14s. It's not the ideal setup at the moment and I have lost some down travel compared to the previous progressive rate Dobinson Coils and Superior Engineering shocks. When funds allow I will go for the 14 inch King Coilovers and they will fit right in and make a big difference.
I hope you guys enjoy the video and be sure to subscribe for plenty more to come. - Auta a dopravní prostředky
No wheel spinning no loads of revs.
A pleasure to watch
Nothing I like more than watching this truck, my dream truck, making sweet climbs look easy in gorgeous countryside.
Amazing to see how much this Defender ant its driver are capable! Ouf ! Incredible! Great video, thanks to share!
Incredible driving, you can certainly read the terrain.
Thanks man 🍻
Hoping mine makes tracks look this easy when i'm done with the build, can't wait, just amazed at how easy it looks.
Hopefully mate. What are you doing?
@@lror 4jb1 engine conversion, but am considering the cummins r2.8 early next year suspension upgrades have been done with an increased gvm
You wont go wrong with either motor 👌
that Land Rover is a BEAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GREAT video ya'll !!!!!!!!!
GANDALF - "YOU SHALL NOT PASS"
OFF-ROADER - "PFF YEAH RIGHT"
😂😂😂
Such a great channel to binge watch!
It's a well built rig making hard lines looks easy in the hands of a capable driver 👌
Stay tuned for this weeks video with a Patrol, Landcruiser and a Defender doing the same trail.
love it!
That was epic! That rear wheel tuck at 8:26 was fantastic! And the hit at 13:44 - ouch!! Took it well though.
Yeah the sliders i built are really strong. 5mm 100x75 with 10mm mounts sandwiching the outriggers and front body mount bolt.
@@lror money well spent!
She's a beast.
Thanks brother 🍻👍
salut!!! le defender et un engin de guerre!!!! aux top nivaux aussi bien qu'un Hummer!!!
One of the most technical and impressive !!
These new suspensions seems to be much more soft and responsive, giving more chance to jump over obstacles !
Yes it is a huge improvement. It will get better with a few upcoming changes 🤞
Stay tunned to this weeks video of the same track with a Patrol, Landcruiser and Defender on coil/shock suspension it really shows the difference.
@@lror for sure !
One question: there is any issue about more easy rollover, because of the greater reaction of shocks ?
@@montesamapping no it's actually more stable because the top mounting point of the shocks is almost in line with the top of the engine rocker cover. That gives it a lot of stability not just the amount of articulation which also helps keep it level.
Un bon 4x4 oui, mais surtout une grande technique de franchissement. Bravo
A good 4x4 yes, but above all a great crossing technique. Cheer
Performs awesome mate! Can’t wait to see how mine goes when it’s done ✅
So have you had a chance to go out testing yet?
@@lror yeah mate! Awesome, Loves the jumps 😆
Still got more tuning to do to get it right tho. The bypasses seem to be a bit tricky to get right
@@outdora_explorer4705 great news man. The ability to tune then fine tune is so good. I'll be changing my top spring rate soon to try something different.
Haha jumps whats that 😂 i dont have enough power to know. On a serious note are you running hydro bumps? Definitely needed if you want to do jumps.
@@lror sorry for the late response dude.
But yeah, 2” travel hydro bumps all round.
And yep.. They’ve been getting a workout and a half 😂
@@outdora_explorer4705 all good man, lucky you have some high speed terrain up there. Not much down here unless you go to private properties.
Here, the Drivers thinking of his Route over the Rocks in his Old Defender and having fun. Over on another well known Channel , the Drivers thinking how he can get his 3rd new 2020 Defender out of the showroom without it being broken ! 😆
😂😂😂
Epic
awesome car, I love it, you make such a great couple. I like all the mods you´ve done but have you ever thought about putting a roll cage? It´s some serious clims you´re doing there, i know you drive very well but it can happen to any one to roll over. Hope it never happens to you. I would love a walk around your beast. Keep up the good work!
Yes it can happen and very quickly. It is a risk and a roll cage would help. I would like to but it's a matter of funds and time. Thanks for watching and dropping a comment 👍
Your landy was once a v/8 110 county imported from UK & i think you put in it a 3.9 isuzu but now has it got a TD5 landy motor in it.Let me know thanks for pics.
Where is this at
Another awesome vid, not that there’s anything wrong with the defender, but what happened to the (silver l think) GU with 40’s, only asking cause reduction gears go in Monday and was thinking of 40’s down the tk with my GU
Thank you. Reduction gears are one of the best mods on a Patrol because the transfer box ratio is very high. Go for 85% and you will transform the rig.
OK. So that bloody tractor is still awesome. But what are your thoughts on the coilovers. Seems to me the thing just goes where it wants. As usual....
Cheers man 👍
They have made the rig more stable and give me much more adjustability. They aren't ideally setup atm, have a read of the video description.
@@lror really? seems higher, softer and bouncier from the video, looks like it's less stable than before, anyway a beast as always and a pleasure to watch, a reference!
@@PabloDeBiasi no not at all. It's actually sitting 1/2-1" lower than previously. It's definitely much more stable. I think the video doesn't do the terrain justice. Watch this weeks video with a Patrol, Landcruiser and Defender it will put things in perspective. Then let me know what you think 👍
🤗👍👍
Great build mate . You should run through your build and the other cars you wheel with
Been asked about this often, i think it's time. Stay tuned 👍
Another cracking video mate ,when did you first start four wheel driving ,and what was your first fourby, cheers.
Thanks mate.
I started in the early 90s with a mid 80s L200 (Triton). Doing light stuff, mud, beach and camping. That lasted for a couple of years and i didnt get back into 4wdriving till 2008 with a 4 Runner. Things have progressed since. It's been a lot of fun and learning 😊
Thanks for the reply ,lucky for us you did take it up again cheers mate.
Have you thought about doing hydro assist steering? I have been looking at trying to figure out how to add a PSC ram on my 110. Would love to hear your thoughts.
Yes i have contemplated hydro assist. Just need to work out where to tap the steering box and should be able to set it up. There's also an off the shelf option for Landy from Gwyn Lewis in the UK.
@@lror I have seen the one from Gwyn Lewis. I love Gwyn's stuff - I have his full suspension and Sumo Bars, they are great. But to my eye the hydro assist looks messy. Seems like it would be cleaner if you could weld a mount to the axle and run the ram to the track rod using one of those cool looking bolt on clamps. Similar to what I am seeing on rock crawler Jeeps, except backwards! I am sure someone has already done it - I just haven't found it yet.
@@chrisrundlett3707 agreed.
I run a Gwynn lewis assist and its a game changer when running 38.5”-42” treps
I have a 1988 110 county 4bd1 with klr turbo, disc brakes, hi tuff axles. 35s an 2 inch koni raid lift... Just wondering why you went the coil overs? Better handling on road?.
. Cheers mate. Nice truck love it! Urs is A monster!
Thanks man she goes good.
It definitely handles better on road but also a lot more stable off road. Im also able to tune it a lot more than coil shock combo. It should get better when im done. More details are in the description 👍
How about riding quality onroad? I wanna know ! Actually my front leaf spring sososo stiff
Very very nice off road with the secondary stops coming into play just as she leans into a corner.
What transmission do you use? Ashcroft?
LT95
i did not realised that its cummins powered. any videos on the build? cheers mate great vid!!
Isuzu powered.
@@wilslandrover why does it have a cummins badge on it
@@10Mbowman 3.9L Cummins is used by GM and Isuzu. Even the 6.6L Duramax is being used by Isuzu and GM.
What diference with coilovers?
Better handling and has a lot more tuning ability to get it right.
@@lror thanks
You've probably had this Q: before but how did you go about the conversion for the front.... hoops for the tops? Interested so I can do sone fab' myself, Cheers....
Im going to do a video about it soon. They aren't hoops but fabricated towers from 6mm plate.
@@lror did you remove the original spring mounts to make way for the new design? Has there been any pros/cons for highway driving? A tall “A” style frame with a pin arrangement for the eyelet sounds a bout right?
@@roddy46198no way to fit with the original perches in place. It's fantastic on road, plush but firm it's hard to explain the feeling. Yes like a flat top A, and a cross brace between the two towers.
Have you seen the walk around video it doesnt go in detail but will give you some info.
@@lror I get the idea, I’ve done quite a bit of fab work over the years and have ended up with air suspension but the front is not to my liking, it always seems to have issues, I’d prefer coil overs 👌, I look forward to a close up to get some ideas, with Thanks
tyre side wall must be hard. 16psi still does not conform with rock steps. I have heard some people use 10 psi on these techy stuff
Yes im still experimenting. This was the highest I've tried off road. While still offering good grip they didnt mold over the rocks as you said. 10psi is good but can go lower maybe 6 or 8 on this sort of stuff. However it is a balancing act and the lower you go the harder steering will be.
Confused by the V8 badge on the back.
MINT!!!
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed the video.
@@lror I like the mint green paint too. On a serious note what do you think about the 38x13.50-17 Mickey Thompson Baja Pro XS(X is the non-street legal version), it's a newer tyre on the market and I am not sure what to make of it vs a Bias Trep or mud Trep, any thoughts or is it to early to ask ?
@@gen1c8rs88 not sure as i haven't got experience with them or seen them in action. I can say that the Treps are really good off road way above my expectations.
sounds like a diesel or something serious wrong with the v8
a 4bie that LITERALLY goes anywhere
👊
My old 110 has all the same rattles….
