The 50 1.8 is my main landscape lens. I don't like wide angle landscape shots since I like capturing "true" perspective. I will often just make a panorama if I my composition requires it, and then I get a lovely wide shot without the "small" and distorted feeling of a wide angle shot. The only reason I ever feel the need to get another lens is because of wild life.
I love that idea of using it for panoramas 👍 I’m going to give that a go as the quality of the lens would make them so sharp when merged. I do have a 10-18 wife angle although I only use it on rare occasions what the situation calls for it
It is a great lens for all kinds of scenarios. My main use is landscape and Street photography
APPRECIATE THIS VIDEO! Although I'm a NIKON photographer, I LOVE my nifty fifty...thanks for these tips on landscape photography!
@@hurleygreen927 many thanks for your feedback. I try to keep all of my on location videos non-camera specific so that hopefully people with any camera can get some ideas and be inspired
Thank for another great video Andy. I have the nifty fifty, never used it, I’ll give it a go now. Cheers
Thanks Chris for the kind words. I’ll be intrigued to see how you get on with the lens
Love the 50mm 1.8...Amazing lens!
It is great and amazing value for money. I’m really enjoying using it
Great video & comments...I am only a hobbyist but I do love using my 50mm lens... cheers from Australia 🦘🦘😊
Massive thanks Robert 🙏😊 it is an awesome lens and I hope summer is being good for you in Australia
Great video, for me it's a learning curve and love this lens.
Me too😊 I love how it makes you think about the composition
Enjoyed the video Andy. I have the 90d and my
lovely 1.8 50mm. Will try and re create some of
what you have done !. Love your content, in my
humble opinion, you should have many more
subscribers !!. Keep up the great videos 👍👍
Massive thanks Robert. I’d love to see some of your images.
Maybe I should do more on social media to promote but tbh I just enjoy getting out with the camera and sharing my experiences 😊
Really enjoyable thank you!
@@LaercioMetzner I am glad you enjoyed it and found it useful. Thank you for your feedback
Im using this lens for filming but I want to take product photos for board games with it too. This is really helpful as I have ZERO knowledge of how to use the camera! IYou explain things so simply thank you!
You're welcome and I'm glad you found it useful. If there is anything you may want me to cover in the future let me know and I'll see if I can get it into a video
Thanks for your informative video. I’ve had my nifty fifty for about two years now but since getting a canon 5D 2 with a couple of lenses I haven’t really used it but this video has inspired me to get it out again and use it more.
Cheers
I’m glad it has inspired you John. I’ll be keen to know how you get on 👍
Another great video Andy. That focal length really is quite versatile. I might have to limit myself to it a bit more.
Many thanks for the kind words Craig. I love this lens for its capabilities
thank you you are professional I have 90D
Thank you for your kind words Arkan. The 90d is a great camera and has been used for all images on my CZcams channel
This is great! Just got it newly and found this video great.
Many thanks for your kind words 🙏🤣
@@AndyHPhotography
You're welcome!
Gotten it for my Canon 5d mark II and intend using it mostly for videos.
@awwal76 it’s a great purchase and a super lens for video
You make the 50mm 1.8 look amazing. I bought the 1.4 version in 2008 and it’s still going great, I should use it more.
Many thanks for your kind words. Both are awesome lenses and the f 1.8/1.4 apertures are amazing for creating great images
@@AndyHPhotography just remembered I have the FD 50mm f/1.8, might take that out tomorrow and see what it can do. 👌
@@12symmo there’s nothing better than getting out with a camera 👍 if you’re into vero it would be great to see some of your images.
Thanks for sharing your experience and advises, highly appreciated. I am wondering if you have any suggestions how to remove that bad color fringing at the high contrast areas. On landscapes captured on nifty fifties it is often an anoying issue.
You’re welcome and I’m glad you found it useful. I use Lightroom classic and apply the colour aberration correction for the lenses I use. This seems to work really well
Just got mine for the new to me T6i. Wish me luck
Superb purchase Pete. You’ll love it. Please feel free to let me know how you get on with it
I've had a "nifty fifty" for a while now, but am only recently trying to explore its power. I do love the lens, however. Thanks for this video.
Thank you. It is such a great lens and I have days when I just take this lens to practice my photography as it really makes me think about my images. Let me know how you get on 👍
Thanks for the tips. I bought this as my first prime lens. It has been a steep learning curve trying to focus on expansive landscape shots. Any tips on that?
In glad you found them useful. For expansive landscapes try practicing on seascapes or mountains if possible. This can lead to re using those composition skills when the landscape isn’t so vast 👍
Looks like you’re an indoor cyclist too (when the weather is horrible) I use Rouvy when it’s horrible outside 😊
Great video! Just purchased the Canon RF 50 mm f/1.8 STM yesterday for $200. Should be delivered tomorrow. First lens beyond the kit lens that came with my EOS RP (26 MP full frame mirrorless). Can’t wait to try it out. I mainly do nature photography with some parks, buildings and some indoor pets etc.
Ultimately want Nikon Z7 II (46 MP)!
The 50mm is an awesome lens. I love it for helping her improve my compositions. Feel free to keep me posted on how you get on with it or have any questions
Do you need a mount to attach this lens to the eos rp?
@@joshuaisraelmararang6057 you would need the rf to ef Mount adapter for this lens. There is an RF 50mm lens though that wouldn’t need a mount
@@AndyHPhotography thank you for the reply. Ive been on the fence if I should buy the eos rp with rf24-105 L lens then buy this ef 50mm 1.8. The eos rp with rf24-105L cost around 1500usd. Do you think its a good deal?
@joshuaisraelmararang6057 I’m not too sure how that compares to deals here in the U.K. I currently use the r7 and the rf ef adapter for my older lenses
May i ask what kind or product of filter you use?
Hi, I currently use k&f filters but will shortly be upgrading to the Nisi or Kase filter system.
It's the second lens I bought after my 135mm kit lens. One of the lenses I use the most often. My other lens is a Tamron 18-400mm.
That’s a nice set of lenses Willem. How do you find the tamron 18-400?
I have a variety of lenses, trying to find what kind of photography I enjoy the most. Bought a Canon 50-250mm and was really happy. Sold it, bought Tamron and that has been on my camera 95% of the time over the last 6months. I am more than satisfied with it. The range is amazing, picture quality outstanding and I cannot fault the lens, but I do live 5min walk from 2 big parks with a variety of birds, butterflies, dragonflies ext.
@@willemdebeer2507 what kind of photography do you prefer? I’m more into landscape but genuinely try anything (portraits I think are my weak spot)
I got the canon 50MM EF 1.2L Lens
F1.2 must be amazing with such a shallow depth of field
To clarify, is this a 50mm being used on a full frame sensor or a cropped sensor? I ask as the appearance of the photos gives me the impression that it's either the latter case, or there has been cropping in post.
Hi, these were shot in a crop sensor (Canon 90d). I’ll be doing a video on a 30mm lens with I get a chance a that’s closer to 50mm with a crop sensor
If you have a crop sensor shouldn't this be closer to a 32mm lens to get 50mm results on the Canon?
With a crop sensor it would be 80mm. I did have a bit of video that mentioned the crop factory but the sound didn’t come through clearly so I couldn’t use it unfortunately. I have 30mm Len’s too which is close to 50mm on a crop sensor so will do a video using these primes soon
That’s correct, on canon APSc you would need a ~32mm lens to get the same field of view as a 50mm on full frame, keeping in mind some 50mm lenses have slightly tighter framing than others (my old Minolta 50mm 1.7 is ever so slightly tighter in framing than the canon 1.4) so it’s not worth getting too precise about equivalent focal lengths.
