I have a t-6 can you use the lens on the 90D
Does this lens work with Canon focus bracketing? You had a 90d previously, I believe.
I believe it should do a the function is driven by the body but I didn’t use it with that mode so can’t verify it 100%
The 90d only does focus bracketing properly with certain lenses. It will do an OK job with some 3rd party ones apparently. Just wondered if you'd tried. Never mind. It can be done manually if not.
@@youngmurphy7556 I did use focus bracketing with the 18-135 and it worked fine but this could be one of the limitations of third party lenses 🤷♂️
I brought one of these canon 90D recently
@@ShademanIrvani great purchase. What do you think of it?
Langford Lakes is my Local Wiltshire Wildlife Nature reserve. I have only just found your channel so subscribed. A very concise informative video 👍
Many thanks for your kind words and support 🙏😊 it is so great to have such a great nature reserve locally and I hope you can get there as much as possible. There one I use is Aston locks nature reserve in Shropshire
Is it USM or STM?
The one in the video is the USM
My app (RSPB's) tells me it's a reed warbler. Definitely not a chiffchaff. They do a staccato chiff-chaff, or rather, short little whistles one after the other. The app has a section "Sounds of... Reedbeds". Several birds for you to listen to there.
I used the Cornell Uni app to identify the bird on location then cross referenced it to the RSPB way of identifying the difference between the Chiffchaff and Reed Warbler when I had the images on my PC (apparently the big difference is the leg colour). The Cornell App definitely identified the Reed Warbler and Chiffchaff independently at different times. Does the RSPB app work in the field? maybe I could get both to cross reference on location.
@AndyHPhotography I just listen to the call of the bird I suspect it is and compare in situ. Obviously, you need a signal, so not much use in remote locations. Their app is just a version of their website from what I know. Oh, in order to visually ID a bird I don't know, if I get a shot of it, I use Google lens or image search using the file to see what it provides. 8 out of 10 results lead to a good possible ID. From there I use bird guide books, e.g. Collins BTO guide to British Birds. The BTO website is also very good, better than RSPB's, in my opinion.
The Cornell app works offline as it has a downloadable database. It's in the apps tore if you're on Apple, but I'm not sure about Android. I'll check out the Collins BTO site as I've not used that one so far. Many thanks for the heads up
@AndyHPhotography I'll check out the Cornell App too. Not sure why it suggested chiffchaff. Was it from a visual or the call? The chiffchaff call is very distinct.
@youngmurphy7556 it was from the call at the time (I’m going to check the video to make sure I’ve put the right clip in )
hey i was at a nature reserve yesterday its called rspb leighton moss and i saw marsh harriers and a great white egret was awesome except for the cloudy but muggy day
That is awesome Andy, it's always great to see the birds in their natural habitat. I've been watching your videos recently, I'm loving seeing what you finding on your trips
@@AndyHPhotography thanks 🙏
I am looking at upgrading to the 90D from a 650D do you think this is a good choice. Usually shoot scenery and nature? Thanks for any advice.
This would be a great choice and if your budget allows also check out the R7. I upgraded from the 600d and it was a big step up. Check out some of my other videos where I use either the 90d or r7 😊
@@AndyHPhotography thanks Andy 👍🏻
Very helpful video, thank you Andy. I've been using a Canon R7 + RF 100-500 super telephoto for bird photography with excellent results. Lately, I've also started taking close-ups of insect pollinators with the same equipment and I've been really impressed with the image quality and fine detail. To me, this falls into the category of "wildlife photography" - the telephoto lens allows enough distance from the living subjects to avoid spooking them away. Unless I want to start doing macro shots of inanimate objects, I think the telephoto is the way to go.
Thanks for your kind words. I agree with your comments and love my 100-500. I ‘m just making a video where I use my r7 and 100-500 at my local nature reserve and it should be out over the next few days all being well
Good video Andy. Like you , I changed to Kase about 2 months ago. I was not paid to change, so was free to say what I liked about the filter. I have to say, I have been very pleased with them.
@@rogerhance5883 me to Roger. I feel that it’s better I buy equipment for reviews so I can maintain integrity 👍 I love the Kase filters as they give me as close to true colour as possible
Thanks a lot for the clear words, fully agreed! I just rediscover my old hobby, dug out my EOS 550D and now the D90 is on its way! Wonderful times! 🙂
That is awesome. I upgraded to the 90d from a 600D and the step up is a big leap in terms of function and quality
What model is this tripod? Seems like the tripod featured in the video is the right height for what I’m planning to shoot.
Hi the model number is SA254T1 (amzn.to/3RSk7OU) which I've replaced with the Benro Tortoise 35C (amzn.to/4889z6e)
Brilliant video Andy. Lovely area for photography and you captured some superb images.

Massive thanks Richard. Onwards and upwards as they say. I’ve been watching your videos as I attempt to get better at bird photography but as I watch on tv I can’t really add comments. Maybe an upgrade for CZcams on tv required

You’re welcome Jose and I’m glad you liked them
To clarify, is this a 50mm being used on a full frame sensor or a cropped sensor? I ask as the appearance of the photos gives me the impression that it's either the latter case, or there has been cropping in post.
Hi, these were shot in a crop sensor (Canon 90d). I’ll be doing a video on a 30mm lens with I get a chance a that’s closer to 50mm with a crop sensor
Just got mine for the new to me T6i. Wish me luck
Superb purchase Pete. You’ll love it. Please feel free to let me know how you get on with it
Quick and to the point - I like it. I'm really wanting to do some long exposure, but I don't get to the good coastal spots often and haven't found anything else local that I think would work. Eventually I'll get to practice.
Thanks Craig. No point in unnecessary waffle 😂. Pity you’re not near the coast but try clouds possibly, especially when they’re moving overhead
Andy, how do these filters attach when you have different diameter lenses? I have 77mm and an 82mm diameter lenses and I’m looking for a filter set. I don’t want to be buying two sets to fit the lenses. Thanks
Hi Matt, I got the set for my biggest diameter (in my case 77mm) then got the Kase step up rings. They work brilliantly. Check it my video on the Kase revolution system of you get a chance which is the one I use 👍
Here’s the link to the video I mention The BEST Filter System for Landscape Photography? KASE Filter System Review (not sponsored) czcams.com/video/Wf-QnAKv-vU/video.html
@@AndyHPhotography I’ve seen the video. As a newbie I wondered how they actually attach to the lens. What diameter is the actual magnetic filter? I think (from memory) you said you bought bigger ones to allow for any future upgrades. Would I look at 82mm filters and then get a ring for the 77mm one?
@MattLakeland you would need to get the 82mm filter kit and then a step up ring 77-82mm. The kit comes with a ring by default. These then screw into the lens and the filters snap into place in the ring. If you have any more questions feel free to ask away (I’m watching the football at the moment so can answer away)
@@AndyHPhotography That explains it. Thanks Andy. I’ve only used screw in filters before and not magnetic ones. Websites don’t explain the practicalities when you have a mix of different size lenses
Thanks Andy. On Anglesey next week so will give it a try
Let me know how you get on 👍 enjoy Anglesey it is stunning. I’ll be there in a few weeks and hoping for good photography conditions for both of us

Great video, i like picture number 3
Many thanks Bert. That is a great choice, on the day this was one of the favourites I captured.
Hi Andy. Love those images. I was there last weekend, and yes, the lighthouse does lean quite a bit
Many thanks Chris. I hope the light was good for some photography as it's an amazing place. Maybe the lighthouse should compete with Pisa for angle of lean
Hello Andy. I was looking for some info on the Canon 18-135 mm .And then followed up with this . Some very interesting ideas. Nicely presented. I'll subscribe 👌
I’m glad you found it useful and thank you for your support. 🙏
Andy, great subject. Gotta love lighthouses. I think I prefer the lighthouse in the top third with the bottom third being a very close second. Amazing how many different compositions you can get from one location. Great job.
Many Thanks Craig. I love using a single subject and trying out different angles
Hi Andy. Lovely video as always, and I think my favourite image of the three is the second image with the horizon line in the middle 👍 I'm on holiday in Cornwall at mo and I'm seeing very few people with an actual camera, everyone seems to be taking images on their phones.
Many thanks Clive. I really like it in the middle too. I hope you’re having a great time in Cornwall, the coastline is so photogenic. I feel that we’re in the minority now with real cameras but the quality still can’t be beaten by a phone
Good video. Thanks
Many thanks for your feedback and kind words
THANK YOU MY FRIEND I AM DEFINITELY BUYING ONE WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT.
Great choice John. Feel free to keep me posted on how you get on
This was my first canon camera. I love it, but it’s a little much for a beginner. I knew what I was getting myself into. Lol. It is the funnest camera to experiment with.
It is such a fun camera to learn on. I would still recommend it for beginners as it provides scope to grow as a photographer 👍
I have a copy of this lens and it's the least sharp of the lenses I own. Even the Canon 75-300mm is sharper than this.
That isn’t my experience of this lens. Maybe you have a faulty one 🤷♂️
Thanks Andy for the ideas on using black and white card etc as a background as well as using the head lamp to provide directional lighting. So simple and straightforward. Here in New Zealand it's autumn going into winter and although the foliage is quite different your tips still apply.
You’re welcome Dick. I’m glad you found it useful and I’d be intrigued to see your results. One day I hope to get to NZ to see my family there

Fab video Andy and lovely shots. Would have loved to have seen the Aurora. What a special event👍😃
Massive thanks Richard. It was amazing to see it in the uk and something I never thought I would see without travelling to the Arctic
May 2024 is it still a good choice ? I only use it for street and urban photography, im consider eos 6d, eos r8, and this 90d , and now just confused which 1 that i should choose, i am a Fujifilm user for all this time and i love using sooc than the raw file
I think it is still worth it in 24 in terms of value. It may be worth checking out the R7 as that is the camera I upgraded to. Similar in price to the R8 but much higher spec than the 90d and I think better than the R8 in some ways. It’s a question of apsc versus full frame. All of the images in my videos since November 23 have used the R7. Feel free to keep me posted on which one you decide to get
@@AndyHPhotography Do you use the same lenses with an R to ES adapter ring? I can't imagine it being optimal, curious to read your opinion on it.
I still use EF lenses using the adapter and there’s no loss in quality that I notice. With my sigma 100-400 I felt the autofocus was a bit slower but that’s just my feeling rather than any specific testing.
Hi Andy. I really enjoyed your review of the Kase filter system, as I bought the 77mm Kase filter system when I was shooting Nikon. I have just ordered the vereus step up rings for my new Canon lenses, the biggest ring being for my new RF 100-400mm lens. I'm looking forward to getting out with my new toys in the near future. Keep up the good work 👍
Thank you loads Clive for your kind words. I love the quality of the Kase filters And am so pleased with my purchase
Clive, do you use the night filter or diffusion filters? I’m thinking of getting these at some point and would welcome your views if you have them 😊
@@AndyHPhotography Hi Andy. No not used those two filters, my kit only has the standard ND and CPL filters.
@@cliveturner6702 mine too so far. I still have the black mist filter from my old filter system and love the impact they have. I think I need to stop spending money on camera gear though for a while otherwise my wife might fall out with me 🤣🤣
Nice images Andy. Well captured. Think I was asleep 😂
Massive thanks Paul. I think there may be another opportunity to see them soon in the uk
@@AndyHPhotography I read that, I’ve not been too well of late. I’ll look out for them
@paulwbakerphotography I hope you are feeling better Paul
@@AndyHPhotography still off work unfortunately, I’m having some issues with my legs. I hope to be back to work Thursday and out with the camera again soon after that
@@paulwbakerphotography I hope you have a speedy recovery Paul and I look forward to seeing more of your great images, hopefully you’ll get to see the northern lights too 🤞
My bridge camera lets me to take macro photos from 1cm in wide angle and focusing distance is 3m at max zoom. But both are not enough for small inects like jumping spiders... Can I get more magnification with 58mm macro lens attachment? Or those macro lenses are just close-up filters?
The advantage of a 'true' macro lens is perspective. Being close may distort the subject so anywhere the higher the lens 'length' the better. Most macros are in the 100, 105mm range to give a narrow and more accurate perspective. I'm not sure about a 58mm macro attachment as I'm not fully familiar with bridge cameras. Does it have interchangeable lenses?
Great shots, I'm a fan of minimal processing on Light Room where possible. we've had similar night sky in Australia but unfortunately not near where I live, but that's the luck of photography🤣 enjoy your work.
Thanks Richard. It’s a pity you didn’t get to see them, hopefully next time. This was the first time I’d ever seen them she’s was acting like a big kid in the back garden much to my wife’s amusement
