Brendan is such a treasure. He’s always been a great guy. I’ve noticed that he’s been steadily dropping weight and he looks good and healthy. I’m so happy for his return to the spotlight and he deserves it. That being said I will be equally happy if either Brendan or Austin wins the Oscar. They both killed their performances and they deserve all of their success.

I was depressed for two days after watching the film. I get choked up just thinking about it. I cried. I’m living it. The seclusion, the trying to get out of a chair, eating in secret, over eating to the point of throwing up, knowing you’re killing yourself with food and being okay with it because at least with death it will end. I don’t yet have courage to watch it again, but I will❤️

I haven't watched the movie, but the clip they showed touched me so deeply. Hearing him cry whilst saying his line, made me well up with emotion.

My former boss and best friend was morbidly obese. He was incredibly smart but a prisoner in his body. But he was a good person and had so much love to give but could never be free of the weight. I get this move on so many levels.
Brendan seems to be unbelievably sincere. I love how collectively happy people are for him.
I love how he fully turns either side when addressing each host, humble.
Of course one of his most important comments made during this interview was missed and skipped over. It occurred when Brendan said that more people, since seeing the film, are seeking help regarding obesity/related issues and this matters more to him than the Awards given to him.
A good Canadian guy and wonderful actor. Thank you Brendan, for your humanity & acting.

Are any viewers of The Whale seeking help for the homosexual issues that caused his character to abandon his family, which is the real problem in that movie? He could've turned to alcohol or drugs instead of food, but he didn't abandon his family because of food, he abandoned them for a guy who later commits suicide because of his guilt over being homosexual. That is what The Whale is really about, NOT obesity.

I really wish all people who struggle with being gay or others' acceptance, nonacceptance of same struggle. I remember many gay guys talking to me about being disowned bu their perents in the 70s and 80s and Ithat breaks my heart. I also feel for all the women who have been lied to and feel rejected by guys who married them pretending they were hetero. Allso very sad.

For the Record, Brendan is being extremely charitable by saying that no one was trying to get rid of him. He was blacklisted for ousting the President of the Hollywood Foreign Press for sexual harassment towards him.

Fat phobia is such a common place thing still. Seems crazy to think our society still allows it to be so rampant. But this film is so not a fat shaming situation. It really brings to light the hardships that people go through and perhaps why we need to stop saying that being overweight is as simple as a choice. Its not. There are many different reasons why. I know, because im overweight and i fight it daily. He answered that comment so well and with such kindness.

Considering his health problems and injuries that required multiple surgeries, that pretty much put a halt to his career, the mental state that came with it the end of his marriage during that time his weight gain from immobility, I figure he could empathize with a lot of the character charlie.

His mental state is what caused the divorce. No one in their right mind would've divorced the woman who saved them from being a drunken failure. Afton kept Brendan clean and sober and on his meds for 14 years. She read and picked the scripts for his most successful movies and how did he repay her? He went off on location to China and cheated on her with a male crew member and then divorced her.

I finally watched the movie and I was absolutely blown away, I think this was the most emotionally packed performance I have seen in a long time, you are awesome Brendan. I cried like crazy, it brought back alot of my own past, a similar situation (5'2 - 210 lbs )

What seems to have surprised people is how you lose Brendan Fraser in the movie. I love Brendan Fraser movies. Let's be honest though, when you watch The Mummy, George of The Jungle, or Inkheart - they are great and fun movies, but we are enjoying watching Fraser playing the part. In The Whale, it is like Brendan is not there. It is Charlie. 😎
