Where to begin....
I've been working on a video that deals with a similar topic. Listening to you I realize how much I take for granted as a rider. And perhaps how shallow my appreciation for riding can be. Your statement about being the last wolves in a world of sheep was both shocking to hear and uncomfortable to consider. I seldom see young people drooling over motorcycles as my friends and I did as kids. Now I suspect video games occupy that place of freedom and adventure for the young. Just in a virtual world where you won't get dirty and can't get hurt.
It's also hard to keep my mind from wandering as I watch those stone walls streak by. I'm reminded of similar scenes near Gettysburg and I can't stop thinking about the young men who may have been marching along that road.
There are a lot of reasons to ride. But as you say, many seem to focus only on the risks involved without ever really considering the statistical or practical reality the spins around them. While no one was anxious to die when I was growing up, there wasn't the same mental anguish and armoring that there is now.
Motorcycles aren't for the masses in America. They're for the rare exceptions.
Thanks so much for giving me once again a lot to think about and for which to be grateful.
That piece of road has seen many die over that damn war. You can pick the lead musket balls out of it.
Ad an old(er) rider, I can't help but notice how our youth steers away from anything moto. Smart phones and ipads are shoved in every one of their hands. To keep them busy so the parents dont have to deal with them. Society has gotten so safety conscious that we've insulated our children from living.
I'm just a tired old rider sharing some random thoughts. Take what I share with a grain of salt.

Ah, the thrill of the ride. It beckons us, those who have chosen the freedom it gives. There is no other feeling like riding on two. No three or four wheeler will ever give you that “being one with the machine” feeling. They may come close, or remind you of it in the breeze, but it’s not the same as the delicate dance of a two-wheeler. I’m loving my choice now, but will always miss that dance.
I have a feeling a smaller two-wheeled bike may be parked next to the SS sometime in the future! 🤔😂

As an old rider, I feel the mentality of the folks wanting to try riding had diminished. Just some random thoughts of mine. You certainly found your calling!

Bottom line for me is it comes down to two things, one it's and enjoyable thing to operate and do and two I'm a acceleration junky I enjoy the g-force of the Hyperbikes and muscle cruisers.

Thanks for this well thought out and spoken rider’s essay. As you said, are we a generation of rare breeds, or have the younger generations tuned away from the shock of dangerous videos, negative statistics while not considering the concept of directly plugging into a moving world, or being moved by it.

Love that road. Unfortunately, people are brought up as sysees (had to spell it that way or get another ban) and FEEEL that bikes are too dangerous for their fragile lives. I know fully grown adults that are scared to try a pedal bicycle. It's so easy to scare the masses now....just have to utter those famous words, "It's for your safety".....and people eat it up.
Sad but true. I'm sharing my thoughts on why we are anomalies. And damn proud of it.
I saw a youtube thumbnail this week advocating that riders wear airbags. These people are the reason manuals which used to show how to rebuild an engine now tell us not to drink the contents of the battery...

Well you know I like birds.. I've always thought of flying you know like on my own not without any contraption and the closest thing without an expensive maybe some kind of plane is a motorcycle..
My pops always said riding a bike was the closest thing to flying.
@@KrakensGarageandAdventures well yeah like I said that's kind of the way I look at it.. back when I was young it was like the space race everybody was going to the Moon.. Us in the Russians... And is the kids in the neighborhood we always have those rockets with the with the motors in them that we would like with electric fuse and.. we'd always talk about it in lunch time... Of course we elaborate a little bit you know my my rocket went around the moon and took pictures but oh man something happened to the camera on the way back to Earth...
