У одного автора в дзене читал, что у русских князей также, как и в древнем Египте был один погребальный обычай. Покойника к месту погребения везли на санях, вне зависимости от времени года. Похоже Высоцкий знал об этом обычае.
Смотрю реакцию иностранцев. Они настолько внимательно слушают, что кажется что понимают слова) Это же надо было так подать песню!!!

Похоже, в качестве субтитров шел неплохой профессиональный перевод оригинального текста Высоцкого - не совсем то, что пела Диана. Например, в последнем припеве у Высоцкого и в субтитрах было: "Умоляю вас вскачь не лететь". А Диана пела всё то же "Вы тугую не слушайте плеть".

I think the nuance is that, the author of the song was begging the "horses" to slow down, but at the same time whipping them along - he knew that his lifestyle was taking him to the brink, he was aware he should stop his excesses, so he could finish what he wanted to do, but something within, was compelling him, to continue on that track. I understand the writer Vladimir Vysotsky was an alcoholic - the song was written in 1972 (?) and he died in 1980 at the age of 42. Perhaps one of our Russian friends could confirm, or clarify, this? In any event Diana's performance was superb & she felt every second of it.

But "fastidious" means showing great attention to detail, or cleanliness and appearance - it doesn't mean "unthinking" or "robotic" or "mindlessly subordinate", which this translation suggests. To paraphrase this intended meaning - the horses should show a little gumption and slow down and ignore the whip that's driving them on. But in no way in English does "fastidious" convey, or mean that. It's just not the right word however you see the mataphor.
"Horses" in the song is the rushing time of a person's life, feeling the approach of death.
