Corinne Boyer's third book isn't published yet, but it's going to be about garden herbs like thyme and mint.
I absolutely love Occult Botany, Thirteen Pathways, and Corinne Boyer's books 💚
You can find some other great plant books with an animist / plant spirit flavour, from an English publisher called Aeon Books.
Some of my favourites from there are Spiritual Herbalism, The Humoral Herbal, The Tree Dispensary, and Conversations With Plants. Also Wild Apothecary is a great book for beginners and is beautifully illustrated.

Thank you for the recommendation! I'd not heard of that publisher before, I'll definitely look into those 😊

I’m glad you mentioned Braiding Sweetgrass. That’s one I’ve been meaning to pick up for years, but forgot about it.
Also, I understand how it can be frustrating the majority of the taxa mentioned in a book aren’t from your area. However, it’s always worth checking out the global distribution of plant you’re interested in. Many of the plants of interest in the American books were brought here from the Old World. I do my best to pay attention to the flora wherever I am, and I’m all the time surprised to find plants in regions where I don’t expect to find them. For example, I live in far west Texas, and I found a bunch of Syrian Rue (Peganum harmala) growing on the ranch. I had no idea it had been introduced to the southwest and is a noxious invasive out here.
    Great video! Very informative!

Kimmerer, has another book called Gathering Moss: A Natural and Cultural History of Mosses. Great read.

The Revolutionary Genius of Plants sounds so interesting! I'd not heard of that so I will definitely look into this book. I have been wanting to pick up Occult Botany and Under the Bramble Arch for ages but I haven't yet. Occult Botany definitely sounds like a book I would be able to get a lot out of. I recently purchased Thirteen Pathways and Plants of the Devil by Corinne Boyer but I've yet to start them so now very much looking forward to these. I enjoyed Blackthorns Botanical though. Great recommendations. Thanks for sharing

I’d love more information on ethically sourcing ingredients. 💜

Essential oils are an option for use in a diffuser instead of burning herbs. Working with them needs a more advanced knowledge but there are many great resources out there.

These aren’t magic-based books, but I highly recommend “Nature’s Best Hope” and “Bringing Nature Home” by Doug Tallamy. He focuses specifically on native plants of the mid-Atlantic USA, but his suggestions apply to anywhere and everywhere. We desperately need to increase the number of native plants, especially in suburban landscapes. He has several CZcams videos and interviews and is a co-founder of the Homegrown National Park movement.

Oh is it? I didn't think it was because it's published by a different publisher! But I really want to read that book, the cover is gorgeous and it looks super interesting.

I had a look on Troy & they only show two books so far in this trilogy. Witching tree & Bramble Arch.
Wondering if the third one has been published yet.....all I’ve found out is that the subject of the third book is witches garden plants

@@TheOakWitch I know I’m so excited for that one as I grow most of my own magical herbs now on an allotment & only forage a few as I’m in a very urban area.

Try "The Hidden Life of Trees", this book is very readable.

Now that you have read many plant magick books, what do you feel they are missing or do you feel there is enough substance overall, as a collective (for those who read many) just curious 🤨 thanks for your thoughts as always

I'm not entirely sure if it's the fault of the existing literature or that I haven't yet read these books, but I'd love to see more books on plant spirit work and developing relationships with plants through an animistic lens. There are some books which touch on this, but a proper 101 guide dedicated to performing magic with plants with the spirit model, I think would be interesting to see more books on!

  • @dylanmagoiofthethalasso4032

"Occult Botany is more useful in correspondences than Cunningham's" LE GASP!! The audacity!....lmao jk That's pretty cool to have another persons opinions on plant correspondences. I love tables in books it REALLY helps. I would like to learn the uses of my local plants but I live in AZ, most of the plants here are only here in the U.S. Southwest. They're most likly not in books. I've been thinking about working with my local plants with meditating with them but I am anxious to start doing that, I might be 10 years into the craft but I've never tried this before. Plus, I'm planning on doing the same with my local animals. Could you make a video about working with plant/ animal spirits? if you have any experience. Braiding Sweetgrass is on my wishlist.

    • @TheOakWitch
      @TheOakWitch  Před 2 lety +1

You could look into folkloric history or medicinal usage to gather insights into their magical use! But yes, meditating and working with the plants like that can definitely help.
I have done a video on herbal magic where I do discuss the different ways of working with plant spirits, but I could designate a video to the topic specifically!

I guess there is another book by the author of Braiding Sweetgrass called Gathering Moss. I’ve been meaning to get it although it sounds more “academic” but I’m interested to see what the author brings in it.

It’s a beautiful little book! Finding the Mother Tree is another book that’s a bit like Kimmerer’s books. It’s so good.
