I love how Kenai just stares at you while you talk. 🥰 He loves his momma. ❤️
I think you nailed it with the copper. It’s not so dark because the light reflects off of it. Hope to see it in the future.
Use L brackets to attach the top to the desk and the desk to the floor. Then, foux paint them aged copper to carry the theme into the sewing room. 😊
Wow Alone!!!! What an eye you have!!!! It’s going to look spectacular with the dark wood and copper😍😍😍😍😍
It's all going to look beautiful when you get it done. It just takes time thinking about what to use and how to go about doing it. I love logs and we all have a log rail at the edge of our loft and log stairs and a log rail with them. The loft is my craft area and it is packed with all different kind of things I craft with. It's also my sewing area. It doesn't give you the privacy that you want though. I get so excited when you start working on the inside of your cabin. It's looking so gorgeous and warm and cozy!! Hugs and kisses to sweet Kenai. It was so good to see him. Take care and God Bless you and Kenai always
That dog is so sweet, when you were sitting at the top of the stairs listening to your every word. 😊
100 foot copper LED lights with remote gorgeous lights brighten up our inside world low cost fear of falling ❤
Recently on the CZcams channel Chris and Gunnar, they uploaded a video short on how they were able to come up with a budget friendly hack that resembled aged copper. It looked great.
As for attaching the top to the desk, inverting some small ornate shelving brackets to the front for extra security might look nice.
I agree with you that the natural aged wood is beautiful. At my previous home, for an inexpensive cabin look on a wall, I used cedar fence boards, lightly toasting them (before installing) by brushing across lengthwise with a small propane torch. It gave the wood an aged look and the cedar smelled wonderful.
I love your style and look forward to seeing how your projects will look!
NOT a carpenter, BUT wood rails with copper inserts A GREAT IDEA!! Think they would add to the character of the Cabin!! U r definitely, not a lazy gal, always looking 4 ward to making Cabin nicer!! Hope U/Kenai, stay warm, safe & healthy in AK. As always, U R CO connection.
Attatch the hutch and desk with a full length side pannels stained the same color as the hutch. Then the top can not topple back
That’s nice. My husband is a cabinet maker and that’s what he did for us and it’s timeless.
Do the copper. I speak from experience. When my husband was alive we used aged thin copper sheets inset into our kitchen cupboard doors and in our huge heavy front gates. We were going for the old west look ourselves and it was a stunning addition that added a great deal to the vintage ambiance we sought.
Copper idea is fabulous. Will be just stunning. And yes, can be done inexpensively.
Annie two things, Martin Johnson on CZcams. I can't think of his name of the show right now. Anyway he just did a show a couple weeks ago on e-z to do railings, you may want to get in touch with him and find out his info. The second one is for the desk upstairs to get the top to stay on,it get a nice sheet of thick signboard plywood.Staind one side laying on its side and bolt part of it to the bottom half of your desk the other half on the upper side of your desk. It makes the desk look good from the back side. Just make sure you secure real good when you do it. Likely you will have to cut the board down a little. But with a little decorating it will work. How a Great Weekend. Joe
I think the copper with the craftsman style will bring warmth to the cabin. Go for it!
The copper and wood combo for the railing is gorgeous!
I love the copper idea, but not on the stairs. I think it would be over kill. It’s so pretty! ❤❤❤
We had a hatch like thst . When I was about 12- it was left open and I back off it and fell down the flight of stairs. Thank GOD, I apparently, had good strong bones! I still remember thst. I
LOL 😂 I thought you liked those signs! Love that bathroom mirror. Good on you, tackling those nasty stairs. Love the copper idea!!! Love how Kenai looks lovingly at you as you speak! 👍😎🇨🇦🐾🔥👌❄
LOL! I noticed how he looked adoringly at her also.
😊
Hi Tiff! Happy Thanksgiving! Hope you had a good day with friends and family. 🤗🐺💛
Hi Alone! Those stairs definitely need some work! Your idea of closing in the trap door is a great idea. The copper would be a beautiful addition. I think your right, copper on the stairs would be alittle to much. The cedar would be beautiful and would keep out any drafts. So excited to see you do this project! Take care stay warm!
-P & J
Many things to do. Thank you much.
The whole time I’ve been watching you talk about the handrails and everything else. All I could think of was copper, my friend used some copper tubing on a rail beautiful it was in between so the top part of the rail was wood and the bottom and the frame of it but the Pieces that came down from the rails to the bottom rail were copper tubing, I love copper we have a set of copper pans along with our cast-iron
Hi Alone, it sounds like you have a lot of work ahead of you. Winter time is the time to do indoor work. Thanks for the shout out, I appreciate it very much. Happy Thanksgiving to you and Kenai.
Love the copper. Contractors in your area may be booked for years to come but there might be a welder, who is also a handy person who could help if you decide to go with the iron spindles. We have a friend like this (no where near you of course) but he works for super cheap because he just likes to putter. Maybe there is someone like that in your area.
Maybe metal L brackets for the desk? That's what we used for my old step back hutch.
Sounds like the work begins when you get the right thought. One project and I'd start with stairs. Extra board at center meeting of upper part.
As a plumber I make a lot of stuff either out of black gas pipe but do way more out of copper , shower heads , gates, light fixtures etc
I love how your dog sits there looking at you and seems to be listening to everything your saying 🥰
The skill it takes to edit in those options speaks highly of your ability. Great ideas!
The copper is very nice looking….it will reflect light and give a cozy feeling
Yes for the copper!!! The stairs & railings are going to look awesome!!!
Love the look of the copper on rails and steps.
I can tell you do a lot of research to get things right. I love your ideas. Of course it’s ok to sit on an idea and then change your mind.
First, I love your outfit! You look so pretty. That skirt is amazing! Next, I love the idea of the copper panels for the loft wall and stairs.
I think your craftsman with copper inlay is perfect, again i wouldnt put on steps would be too much. Look forward to seeing the progression and finished project. Love you channel and your independence.
Stairs should be priority One above all, wood, Food,
Love the vintage and old style!!
Many people still love this!!
My cabin is completely 1970s including all of the furniture and every single item inside I love keeping it old I even have some things from the 40s and 50s sprinkled in.❤❤
@15:26...PERFECTION!!!! The copper panels will almost double as art. Hope you go with just this and can't wait to see the finished product. You really ARE talented, skilled & have an excellent sense of what you want in style. Your home is really becoming beautiful.
I vote the copper panels ,it definitely has the old school look for your cabin ❤
Alot of "tiny home lofts" have a solid 3/4 high bookshelves!? Love Copper!!! Love your skirt!!
We were thinking about the railings, to do a two tone in wood. Light and dark. If you later wanted to clad the light colored wood with copper, you could or even paint a faux copper effect. You may like it in two wood colors and leave it. We did our kitchen with light and dark wood and we loved it.
Hello Alone. I sent you a comment several months ago telling you how much I enjoyed comparing your life in interior Alaska to my son and daughter in law over in the inside passage on Prince of Wales island. Since then my family has offered to build me a mother in law home there with them. I am going to do it. Thank you so much for your constant inspiration and encouragement that anyone at any age can begin new chapters. I am 67 and so looking forward to it. Happy Thanksgiving.
You are blessed.
Yay!!!!!👍😎🇨🇦
Awww...I Love this. I'm excited for you. I know I don't know you but I truly wish you all the Best. What a Fun New Journey your about to take. ❤❤❤
the copper accents the bottom lighting beautifully
Think long, Think wrong.. Go for it
sounds fabulous🤎🎀🍂the stairs need a refresh maybe add more extra stairs in between what you have, and add the handrail with the walloff, love the craftsmanship style as well.
Oh I would add some floor space and drop down a spiral case. It would give more space and on tip of the enclosure to the basement it could give top storage. It would give some real charm to the cabin..
Love the copper Inset for the railing! Beautiful look!
I think you finally came up with a very good solution with the last.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING ALONE🦃🍗🥰
Hi Debbie! Happy Thanksgiving to you too! I hope you had a wonderful day. 🤗🐺💛
Love the picture inserts on the video. What a great way to see how things will look. How about doing the copper on the back of the book shelf and using that as the loft edge blocker. sea salt and white vinegar for the patina , cover with damp paper towel and let sit for a weak . brush it off and use spray lacquer to finish .
How about placing the hutch on top of the desk exactly where you want it and screwing a piece of plywood over the left side and then right side, effectively tying the 2 pieces together. To make it even more secure you can apply some liquid nails adhesive to the plywood and then screw it to the desk-hutch unit
#I LOVE your Stairway idea and the Divider Panel that provides privacy to your Upper Loft. I hope it's workable : ) The Copper will be a beautiful touch!!
Good Mornin' Alone, That Kenai is so funny- he's loving just laying in the snow.. Oh! cedar planks! It's going to look Beautiful!.. Copper, how gorgeous that's going to look. You have such good taste-whatever your final decision, I know it will look stunning. Thank you for sharing your beautiful scenery with us too.. Love to you and Kenai
I like the idea of a solid railing for privacy and love the copper idea. Good luck. You can do it!!
another option is to just faux paint metal pieces in the aged copper look to use as the inserts. that would prevent any changing of the copper color, and also eliminate having to shine/clean copper. i like your copper insert idea. copper looks warm and beautiful in a home.
I love the look of the option you came up with. The aged copper would look great.
I like the copper look. It gives some light to your cabin and still keeps that cabin look you’re wanting.
Hi Alone, I agree with you about the railing options with the copper. But not on the stairs, railings only. It will be beautiful.
The hutch put it up on the desk then add a few two by ones screwed in to the desk and hutch. Hang the quilt and Viola done...
If you are using 4x4 beams to secure the railing, make them longer to the ceiling behind the desk than you can lean the cabinet against.
We had a log home with the same top step gap. Going down the steps one morning my foot went into the crack. I ended up hanging upside down on the steps, hanging by my ankle which obviously broke. Luckily my hubby was home to rescue me! Please fix that even if it is just a board to close the crack. I have a desk similar to yours. It has wood pieces that are screwed into both sides. Screws into the top piece and into the base. Mine is very secured. ❤
Oh that’s a great idea. That’s beautiful.
The copper will be perfect !
On the desk rails on the back to screw them together.
How bout using barn doors?? You'll decide what's best & hopefully the easiest.
The copper would be beautiful.
I think the copper would be beautiful.
Hi alone! Great ideas! Yes i can see your concern on the stairs! Personally i love the rebar idea. But the copper is a great idea too maybe a mix of both??? Paint the rebar copper?? Lol. Your a heck of a woman to tackle this all alone. Great job!
YES YES YES on the Craftsman style stair railings with copper inserts! That looked really beautiful. I would use that design even in a less rustic setting, it’s that stunning👍
She makes some brackets at a flat steel or you can even buy them if that's what you want but like it in 18 flat steel drill holes in them and screwed into the back of the cabinet
The copper is gorgeous!
while I think the copper would be absolutely stunning and really unique for the loft railing, you might want to consider one of the more traditional options for the actual staircase itself...1) to allow better airflow up into the loft but also between the kitchen and living area..and...2) for security purposes, you'll want visibility from your stairway as you descend the stairs...so that you dont impede your situational awareness
I like the copper idea - it’s beautiful!
I think your railing idea and balcony wall idea is going to look great. No copper on the stair risers, that would be too much. :) thanks for sharing and have a quite Thanksgiving
Hi Weedeater! I am glad to have a second opinion. 😊 I agree the copper going up the stairs was way too dramatic. Maybe it would be okay if I didn't do copper on the banisters, but who knows what will happen when I finally get to it. Hope you had a great and relaxing Thanksgiving! 🤗🐺💛
I Really like the thought of using Copper.
It has a Beautiful & Warm
Presentation.
Copper is a great idea! I think it would be a perfect look.
And also if you would take the backing off of that bottom shelf and that top you would be able to see that copper also in the back of the shelves it would be exposed for any places that you did not have it completely cut off I think it would be beautiful and then to put like a little light and certain places like a little little lamp and the light would reflect off the copper with all those different colors and varnish it'd be really beautiful like a rainbow a beautiful effect
Love that look with the copper! Will be awsome!
Love the copper insert idea.
That will look!!!
I have faith in you Alone 👍 You can fix those stairs imo.
Ah, thank you! I think this is within my wheelhouse. Fingers crossed. 🙏😉
I like the copper. It lightens up the darkness of the wood. Of course ,
My absolute favorite architectural style is craftsmen
You have so many great ideas, easier said than done, but I applaud your thought process with this 👏👏
Alone have considered using "L" bracket in the center, you could use two then on the sides you could use flat joining brackets. The cabin is really coming along.
It looks like you've put a lot of thought into evaluating your options, which is excellent. As a retired LA interior designer I really like your idea of the aged copper inserts for the upstairs area, which will give you the privacy you seek and fit in with the look you're going after. I agree that going down the stairs with them might be a bit much.
I knew you are good people when I saw you kiss your dog. I kiss my cat all the time. I like the last choice for the railings and the stairs. It will be better for you when you have the stairs closed in. Not so scary coming down them at night. No snow here yet but tomorrow we might get an inch. North West Indiana by Lake Michigan doesn't seem to get as much as we used to have in years past. Peace Love Happiness 💖💖
If you have even the slightest moisture in your cabin the copper will eventually turn green..This has happened to me. It starts off looking nice but quickly turns horrible. Just something for you to think about. Happy belated thanksgiving to you.
Clean it and cover with a clear coat
Great video. I love what you plan to do with the stairs. I'm not creative. I have to see things before I can picture it.
I know whatever you do it's going to be great. I'm so excited for you and can't wait for the finished results. Be blessed Alone. Please be safe.
Hi Alone, seeing your style, I think the copper is beautiful !
I like the first Iron option!!!!!! The copper and wood second…but I wouldn’t put the copper on the risers, too much!
The craftsman dark walnut style looks great the copper is an overkill
I like your idea for the rails alone!
Another thing is that this project is a nice long project to kind of keep you (busier) during the long winter……not that you don’t have things to do during your winter
I missed this video I was busy yesterday and most of today I think your cabin is nice with plenty of room Winter is the time for indoor projects
Hi Alone👋 It’s good to see you😊
Hi Debbie! It is always good to hear from you! It brings a smile to my face. 🤗🐺💛
Can you take the little shelves of from the main part. Then screw it to desk then put the little shelves on top.
You need to tell John to update his picture looks a totally different thought I had the wrong channel🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
You have had such great vision for your cabin.
I really like your solution for the stairs and balcony railing. I think aesthetically the copper panels going down the stairs would be best vertical on the stairs. 😊
Loved the painting! I love owls. Can’t wait to see more of your work!!🤗
