    [SONY XPERIA 1 REVIEW]
    There are two reasons to buy a phone as tall as the Sony Xperia 1. One - you want to watch super-modern 21:9 video in crisp 4K HDR … or Two - you need to film that same kind of video and you don’t want to buy a dedicated camera to do it. If you’re in either of those camps, and you were let down by last year’s RED Hydrogen One, the Sony Xperia 1 might be the phone for you. Speaking as a CZcamsr who would shoot every video on a smartphone if he could get away with it … that means the Xperia 1 has my attention right out the gate. And it’s unquestionably the best Sony phone I’ve ever touched (which isn’t the backhanded compliment it might seem). The thing is, though: if you’re not a mobile videographer or a sucker for smartphones that stand out … you can get a phone that fits your needs for much less than the Xperia 1 costs.

    I love thid phone, its so hard to find a really good display on the market, and the best video capabilities at the same time.
    I shoot in RAW, so, i don't care about night modes, this phone has the full CameraApi2 unlocked, using Lightroom with an accurate display is a huge deal to me.
    And the CinemaPro gives 11 stop of dynamic range with the VENICE Color Science.
    I can't find a similar phone, the most closer alternative is the S10 but doesn't have the same video capabilities, less accurate display and camera notch :/

    • @supertigerman013
      @supertigerman013 Před 5 lety

      Is Lightroom HDR available on Xperia 1? Mysteriously enough it apparently crashes when using Google Camera port even though it has Camera2API now, so I wonder how much compatibility it has with Lightroom camera.
      Also, as for the display panel.. I couldn't find any reputable 3rd party display benchmark website saying that Xperia 1 has more colour accurate display than Galaxy S10, which already has supurb colour accuracy which is indistinguishable from being perfect and is only beaten marginally by iPhone XS. I'd like to know who's actually making that claim. I agree with you on the video recording capability on Xperia 1 being impressive as long as one is a camera professional, though.

    I'm still using the XZ1 and I have to say the software experience is excellent. It has never missed a single security update and it's on 🥧 since early 2019. It has fallen naked more times than I could count with my fingers and it still goes pretty well. Those battery optimizations must do something too because after 2.5 years I still get 4.5 to 5 hours on screen. From my experience Sony fans can be proud for at least one thing: their Japanese phones can escort them for quite a big chunk of their lives.

    • @Koffiato
      @Koffiato Před 5 lety +3

      Mate how are you using a Sony phone but don't get frustrated with camera, non existent animations, no double tap to wake, no night light, no RAW support, bottom speaker crackling at some piano notes, none of the features Pie brings and also boy why aren't the power button isn't always active?
      I had XZ1 for a while as a replacement for my Mi 5 and hated it. Plastic top on bottom got damaged even though I *never* dropped the phone, missed great captures because of no EIS, also my device had slight backlight bleeding from top left corner which Sony Turkey didn't agree with me. Also don't get me started on horrible horrible Sony apps, their EULA and especially *AWFUL* bootloader lock policy.
      In the end I sold it at a loss, added few bucks and got myself a Mi 8. Never liked the Xiaomi software so I put Pixel Experience on it, throw some GCam and oh boy it's amazing to have way better camera, way better bootloader unlock policies, and surprisingly also better screen for few bucks.
      I used to like Sony btw, their Z lineup until the Z5 were awesome, they were amazing camera wise, had great screens, superrior software etc. But Sony seems to stuck on these times. Even the status bar icons are from that era for God's sake!

    • @aspe
      @aspe Před 5 lety +1

      @@Koffiato I never got into ROMs, and to tell the truth that might be the best solution for me. I always liked the conservative take Sony had with their Android flavours, and with pixels not being a real option in Greece the only option I had was Sony. Now with Android One there are more options for people like me...
      I just watch other flagships slowing down miserably over time while mine hasn't at all, really. Also about 1 and a half years after it came out there was an update that brought a 1080p option for super slow motion and a revamped camera app. I just got the impression that the Japanese have been more committed to support their phones over time. They have a different mindset there, you can see it with Nintendo too, if you know what I mean.
      Yeah generally I don't disagree with you, maybe it's time to finally get started with ROMs

    • @Koffiato
      @Koffiato Před 5 lety +1

      @@aspe the thing is, you can't get onto ROMs, if you do you will lose a lot of HW level features because Sony decided to use DRM, and keys (called TAA) gets erased *permanently* if you unlock bootloader.

      @@chigga25 I am not sure if the tech community is so spoiled or if I haven't really seen a smartphone with an amazing camera, but to me, the camera on Xperia 1 is great. I do use the slow motion feature occassionaly and find it easy to use and useful. They also say, for example, that it doesn't have a "night mode", but when it's dark enough, the phone will detect that and then adjust some things to make the low-light photo great. I once compared such photo with my friend's iPhone X, which, of course, is already a bit older, but the thing was that there was sooo much more detail in my photo compared to my friend's phone's. The manual mode is great too. I learned how to zoom in some objects at night that are very far away, like the moon - I took a photo of it yesterday. Of course there are some things that could be improved. The panorama mode isn't perfect, but I believe the problem is the same on every single phone(the photo slightly curls if you don't move it perfectly). Also, for some reason, I can't take pictures in 21:9. However, with the CineAlta app, you can take 21:9 4K video. And these are just insane. I still can't understand how the video looks so good on a phone, even at night. By the way. You can just take a picture of the dark sky, and the phone is good enough to be able to see stars. That's also kinda nice. Yeah, well I'm completely satisfied with the camera and was already able to make some amazing pictures.

      It would be great but with state of mobile gaming right now, they would be better of doing PS Vita 2. Because why would Sony put theyr exclusives on mobile? With exclusive store, maybe? They did that with the first Xperia Play. And it was pretty bad. Streaming of your PS4 on mobile is possible even now, so It would be a selling point but not that big. But Sony isn't in a position to release something like that. They are still pretty sore about PS Vita flop and Switch Mini seems to close even gap in a market they could exploit. I would love to see successor of PS Vita, as a fan and developer for that platform, but I don't think Sony will do it in near future.

    Sony Mobile went through a huge restructuring process, when that happens is normal until a point for the software to contain bugs. However, they should work more on that, they have already released several updates for the camera and there is still more for the upcoming weeks.

  • @bhrbehavioralhealthracing30

    This phone is amazing, I want from a s9 and pixel 3xl and this thing blows both out of the water. It's so light so if you want vibration it doesn't eat a lot of battery. as far as this the double screen option goes it's awesome. You need to get use to it on the once you do it's great. You can have "youtube open while on facebook or whatever" It's a great phone. I owned a lot of phones. To many but this is down write the best phone I owned. It's not buggy anymore. It never heat up and I do't know what he is talking about it's so Dam fast. it's crazy. I have the japan model or UK, The only thing I am not happy with no wireless charging. I can say this it can take some very heavy use. To kill the battery on it you need to be on it all day long non-stop. The finger print scanner sometime doesn't read 1 out of 10 it's not a problem... I will miss the headphone jack, but Sony's Bluetooth audio is better than its wired sound, so no harm for me. The included headphone is above average but nothing special. Good thing I have a 1000xm3. They have some quirks, like you mentioned the mushy buttons and camera stutters, but as a whole I love these phones. I especially appreciate the close to stock Android software, I can't stand Samsung and LG skins. My first Xperia was still super snappy with a strong battery at almost two years old when I broke it (oops). Buying these phones after they've been out for a year and you can get them $300-400 cheaper, which makes them very much worth it then.

    It's good for large electronics manufacturing companies to put OLED displays in cell phones for multiple reasons. Cell phones with OLED displays tend to be expensive, OLED displays do NOT last as long as LCDs so when you start to experience pixel burn in after about two years which more than half the times there isn't any need to upgrade your device because it's only small incremental hardware upgrades over 2 years time, then you know what time it is. BUY A NEW PHONE WITH OLED, EXPERIENCE THE SAME PROBLEMS AGAIN. HOPE TO SEE YOU HERE SOON, BRING LOTS OF MONEY... these companies love that.
