I have a 2021 Ram Classic V6 4x4 quad and I am very happy with it. Won't throw you back in the seat but the V6 is a great engine. Had one in my Jeep Wrangler too and it was problem free for 7 years and more than enough power. It's a truck not a Corvette. Now if you are towing a large trailer, perhaps the V8 would be a better choice. But for me, V6 works great. Cheers

my 18 big horn quad cab 4x4 does just fine with the v6, I do worry about the rocker noise and other weaknesses happening eventually, but so far zero issues. it's certainly not the fire breathing dragon the hemi's and eco boosts are, but it has been a good performer, I've only pulled about 3500 thusfar, and it handled that with no problem, this truck is far quicker than most of the older v8 trucks I've owned in the past

I've got the same. The pentastar engine and love it. Most idiots on the V8 side are not using the truck as designed, but instead have shelled out more $$$ for a truck they don't actually need in everyday real life situations and don't use the extra torque anyhow. That is "compensating" at it's worst LOL.

I've been looking into these as i've loved the styling, and interiors of the Ram 1500. Especially the ZF8. Problem is the hemi and ecodiesel are garbage and can suffer catastophic failure just from regular use. The pentastar is the only reliable option. And they made 10,000,000 over the years. Thanks for the comment Eric. I had both those problems. Oil cooler was fixed under warranty and valve shins replaced near 200k miles.
You didn’t hear me say in the video that it’s a perfect engine. Lol. You could always opt for the hemi with common camshaft flattening/lifter failures. Or broken exhaust manifold bolts. Better yet, you could get the ecodiesel with EGR cracks, catastrophic engine failures or complete loss due to fire.
I believe the valve issue has been engineered out with the new high valve, low valve system as well as oil cooler problems. However, should these or any problems occur, I will make it known to all of you.

Having owned V6 and V8 trucks the reality is different than on paper, on a heavy truck the fuel economy ends up being same or less on a smaller engine due to having to work more and the fact that the smaller engines need a more aggressive gear ratio to do the same work. Unchained, I am coming up on 115,000 miles. On the one hand, I love Ram trucks but I have had my share of problems with this one. Up until owning a Ram, I have driven all of my trucks about 240,000 before selling. My first Ram made it to 190,000 before blown head gasket and then cracked block. The Ram you see in this video only made it to 79,000 before blowing a head gasket. I opted to replace the whole engine with a new factory one. A few months ago, the truck failed to turn over. Had to tow it in. Was told a neutral switch went out. That turned out to be in the transmission and about $3500 later I was back on the road.
I don’t know what I will do next. Seems none of the automakers build reliable trucks anymore.

Put manufacturer recommended oil in either v6 or 5.7 hemi and you wont have any ticking, and if you do start to hear sounds put half a quart of Marvel Mystery Oil 500km before oil change and it wont be a chronic problem.
Any engine or brand, if you dont address a noise or symptom itll become a chronic or worse problem.
Remember to tell that to all the Chevy owners with old and new trucks ticking and burning oil

find me a motor that has absolutely no common issues. never happen. as far as this issue goes, its a 170$ part that takes an hour to fix. ill take that over piston slap, blown turbos, busted timing chains...etc there is no perfect engine, buy a warranty, no matter the brand.

@@patamaran go ahead and defend the piece of junk, That $170 part and 1 hour of labor should never have happened (it just shows the piss poor engineering). The rocker tick due to lack of oil lubrication is not an easy repair (although it is necessary or it's terminal) especially when it's on the rear of the engine, but I hope you don't get it. I don't own it anymore so no worries.

Good luck when the turbo cooler lines and water pump start leaking, and the cam phasers go bad, and the valve train sludges up, and the hydraulic timing chain tensioner leaks which makes the timing chain need replacement. Truck will cost $8,000 to repair and take six weeks. Happened to my uncle’s truck, it all happened at 90,000 miles, and the oil was changed every 3,000 with Ford Motorcraft filters and oil. I know it was maintained well because I did all the work on it.
