    Haegeum has two meanings:
    1) A traditional instrument
    2) The lifting of a ban (which is the intended use in this song)
Daechwita is a type of military music played when marching in battle or announcing the king.

  • @Anne-pd2hk
    @Anne-pd2hk Před měsícem +34

Both Haegeum and Daechwita symbolize his inner battle -- between the young upstart he used to be and the king on top (at risk of becoming mad with power). Each time the young version of himself destroys the egotistical part.
You'll also notice that the scar is fading.
These are part one and two of the Daechwita trilogy. The third is Amygdala, and is arguably the most important of the three lyrics-wise. You'll definitely want CC on as it outlines his personal story.

    - Daechwita is a traditional military music played when a king arrived
    - Haegeum is a traditional string instrument or can mean "lifting a ban" - both meanings are relevant here
At the start of both, you can see that he's with 6 people, who represent his bandmates! Also, Jin and Jungkook appear in Daechwita (the villagers that fight in the beginning) and the drawing that's used represents Bang PD (their original CEO with whom they debuted and are close) that one member (JK?) drew
This is a trilogy, so it makes sense that the themes are somewhat similar. And, of course, the scar that symbolises inner conflict, self-sabotage and pain - it symbolises his mental state. In Daechwita, it's rather fresh and both versions of himself sport it. In Haegeum, only the corrupt cop sports it, and it's healed. The thug represents the current SUGA that healed his traumas and killed that greedy and pretentious persona that he created to protect himself and grew too big (symbolised by the king and corrupt cop). Agust D represents all of that.
In The Last, from his first mixtape, Yoongi said "Min Yoongi is already dead (I killed him)". For a while he called himself "Min SUGA" a lot and then created Agust D. But recently he's been using SUGA a lot more for his solo stuff (as producer and for collabs) and doesn't really call himself "Min SUGA" anymore. He brought back Min Yoongi and found a good balance with his personas and himself. He even wondered if he would still use the name Agust D.
It's also interesting to note that, in Daechwita, he shot the king with an Army Colt. It means that his fans, ARMYs, helped him grow and stuff out that part of him. The king is also blonde because, when his first mixtape came out, in Agust D and give it to me, he had blonde hair. There are a billion other meanings but it would take forever to list them all 😅

Haegeum was filmed in Thailand. And the Daechwita MV was filmed at a famous South Korean Historical drama filming site. The next video - AMYGDALA - is a more introspective song about his life, and trauma. It's more melodic, and you will get to hear his vocals in that one, mixed with Rap. It's an amazing song and is also amazing live in concert. I was able to catch him on his sold out world tour. I attending the Oakland, California concert, and it was EPIC, the energy and performance level was amazing.

Haegum is quite the commentary between the words and the actual visuals. The idea of lifting of a ban is symbolized by Yoongi (Agust D) smoking. So many people smoke in Korea. Large %, however, idols like Yoongi can't. They will be cancelled. The ideas of being an Idol are very strict. He is calling out the hypocrisy. That is one context. There are more.

The meaning of Haegeum can be interpreted in two ways. First of all, it is the name of a traditional Korean instrument. The sound of the instrument in the music video is the sound of playing the haegeum. And in the sense of lifting what was forbidden. In English, it is called Unlock. The beginning of D-day is said to be the day of liberation from negativity. So the word haegeum means unlocking as a musical instrument, but I think it is a song of Yoongi, who has been liberated from the negativity that was forbidden and bound.

Korean traditional military music, Daechwita (大吹打)
Daechwita is a music that was used as an accompaniment when the king came or the army marched in the Joseon Dynasty.
The name of the last gun that Suga shot was "Army"
    Colt army model 1860
Ps:The name ‘Agust D’ is the reverse of ‘DT Suga’ written in the lyrics. DT refers to Suga's hometown, Daegu, that is, D Town.

To understand what the song is about please put on the closed captions in English. BTS is well known for their meaningful lyrics.
Agusr D is the name Suga or BTS uses for his solo woek. He is a rapper, hence his solo stuff is rap. If you want singing interspersed with rap stick to BTS songs. Watch On Kinetic Manifesto, Mic Drop Steve Aoki remix, Black Swan, Blood Sweat and Tears. And put on the closed captions.

All three Rappers in BTS have released mixtapes, and all three have also now released at least one, if not multiple albums, and they have done collaborations with other artists like Halsey, Juice WRLD, Wale, Warren G, Anderson Paak, Becky G, and J-Cole. Among others.
The vocalists also have solo projects of solo songs and albums, and they have done collaborations with artists like Charlie Puth, Charlie XCX, Coldplay, Jack Harlow, USHER, Latto, Kid Laroi & Central Cee, Justin Timberlake, and more. As well as so many numerous collaborations as a group.
So the two songs you just reacted to are part of a three song trilogy, so you may as well do the AMYGDALA song next. I will also link you the song and add the definitions of each title.
    Agust D - Amygdala (2023-Album) (turn on CC's) - czcams.com/video/IX1dkYoLHVs/video.html
    *Meanings for the song titles*
*1-Daechwita* - is a genre of Korean traditional music consisting of military music played by wind and percussion instruments, generally performed while the ARMY is marching or as a static performance usually when the King is arriving. (Suga aka Agust D meant the BTS ARMY to be implied.)
*2-Haegeum* - has two meanings. The first, it's a traditional Korean string instrument, resembling a vertical fiddle with two strings, usually played at Royal Court. Also, it means to lift a ban, or release what is forbidden.
*3-Amygdala* - is an almond shaped part of our brain which is commonly thought to form the core of a neural system for processing fearful and threatening stimuli, including detection of threat and activation of our fight or flight response. The amygdala helps to store memories of events and emotions so that an individual may be able to recognize similar events in the future.

All BTS members read the subtitles. You can make them bigger. Their lyrics are one of the best things about the songs. Or sometimes the rappers are too fast or there is alot of content needs explaining so an entertaining explaination by an English speaking korean who can give you the less polite translations. Like DKDKTV DAECHWITA. Haegum two meanings..A two string traditional instrument and a rebellion or over turning of stupid pointless rules.
