My husband watched your video for the first time, he wanted you to know that your children were well behaved, they reflect the parents, awesome 🙂❤
Oookay lmaooo
Having watch for more than five minutes, and that’s the first thing I’ve noticed. Your children are well behaved… Yes I’m impressed! keep up the good work!
Who does your husband think he is? Tell him to worry about his boyfriends kids
I think you'll find _most_ children will be well-behaved when they know the camera is trained on them, and they know it's ultimately destined for youtube!
Cheesemaking starts at 9:02
Gosh your kids are well behaved! It’s so nice to see a mum who’s calm, and has kids, who aren’t fighting, every single second. What a GREAT job you and your hubby have done!
your comment isn't very love and light even if you wanted it to be perceived like that. Children are children, whether they act out or not, it's normal, it's natural. Sometimes my kids are model citizens and sometimes they're not so you saying that the job is well done when they act a certain way is such a limited and sad way of looking at things. Please dont have kids.
I was just thinking the same, they have a bus load of kids and they're all well behaved.
Kids will be kids. Sometimes in an embarrassing moment. But, it's all good.
I make a farmers cheese that lasts about a week or so in the fridge. It's great to use as a cream cheese substitute. I use 1/2 gal. of (room temperature) pasteurized, cultured buttermilk, (not UHT) add 1 Tbsp. lemon juice, stir well and pour into 2 pyrex bowls. Covering it with a lid or parchment paper. I then bake it (from a cold oven) at 225° F for about 30 minutes. Turn off the oven and let it come to room temperature. I skim off the curds with a slotted spoon into cheese cloth and let it hang about an hour. Then I salt it, stirring well. I've also added herbs or a small amount of fruit jam for variety. Like l said it only lasts about a week or two but we eat ours up quick because it's so yummy. I added this recipe because I don't shop online and don't have access to rennet or calcium chloride and have found this recipe to be easy to make with what I have on hand. Blessings to you all.
Sounds lovely!
Thank you for sharing this
I made farmers' cheese once, but it only lasted, like an hour... ❤️🤣
Thank you!
I make something similar. You can also use white vinegar instead of lemon. I bring mine to heat on the stove and then cut the heat add the vinegar and let set. Quarter cup vinegar to one gallon milk.
Amazing that you have raw milk in your grocery store!!! That's the way it should be 🥛💗
That would be the difference in state laws, in Indiana it's illegal to sell raw milk so you have to keep your own goats or cow if you want raw milk. It varies widely state by state.
@@aroundthefarmcrafts3192 Yeah I'm in Ontario Canada 😉 we have our own goats now, raw milk for the win!
Can you use dried milk?
@@gowest5145 Use dried milk for what?
@@gowest5145 dried milk is usually fat free. You need the fat (cream) to make the cheese
I'm in the UK, we have just spent a week on the island of Jersey, its in the channel Islands between the UK and France, the Milk, cream, butter that the Jersey cows produce is so good, they also produce some of the best new potatoes in the summer called Jersey Royals
Jersey's are the best. What a great experience you had.
We had a brilliant time, and found out when we got home that our milkman can supply us with Jersey Butter, Cream and milk from a farm not to far from us that has a herd of Jersey Cows 😊
Did you know that you can’t buy/grow those amazing Jersey potatoes anywhere else.I really miss them now I’m not in the UK
When we use to milk cows, the extra milk was used to “water” the potatoes.. it made them fluffy and very white when cooked.. also the extras would also be fed to the pigs.
Thank you for the teaching, and the fine example of a simple country family life, together…Mother and Father had nine children, born in 11 years, no twins. Seven girls and two boys, of which I am one. Next to the baby! We were raised on a ranch, and had three registered Guernsey cows, among all the other animals. They were beautiful milk cows, Bessy, Fanny and Flossey…..We, one of my brothers and one of my sisters and I, usually did the milking…all by hand…while Mother sanitized the gallon jars and got everything ready for straining the milk. We brought in about 12 gallons a day, and the milk was so rich, about half of the gallon, was pure cream. It was so delicious, it was wonderful! Mother set huge jugs of milk, by the wood heater, and from it made, buttermilk, butter, cottage cheese, with part of it, and with the other, She would skim off part of the cream and make whip cream, milkshakes, and Home Made Ice Cream! She loved making the Ice Cream! She liked to make new flavors…Mother made great Ice Cream! Everything from black walnut, to strawberry, pistachio, chocolate, strawberry, peach and apricot, blackberry and maple nut…whatever was available, And puddings, which we had for breakfast, often! She always said, it was just eggs and milk, and other good ingredients….She also sold milk a dollar a gallon, and bought me an old piano from a friend and customer, when I was 15…I loved her generous, kind ways…but the most important thing she did, almost daily, with all that she had to do, was to remind us, to “Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God, for Christ’s sake, forgave you.” Ephesians 4:32. 💞
What a wonderful Mother you had♥️
🙏🏽
Thank you for sharing that! Wonderful!
Like you, we had a lot of children. Our Mother had 7 children in 8 years. 5 boys and 2 girls. Then 6 years later I was born. 10 months after that, our Father died, leaving her with 8 children between the ages of 15 years and 10 months of age. She got $150.00 a month because our Father served in World War 1.
Only the oldest 2 boys didn't graduate from High school, but the rest of us did. All of my Brothers served our Country. We had a farm, but no cow. We got milk wonderful milk from our Aunt Bessie and Uncle Henry Shepard. It was hard, but I loved my life. Still do, I got the old Home place, when we children divided the land! GOD bless
Ok this is the first time I have ever watched one of your videos. I want to learn how to make cheese myself. So here I am. But when you said load the crew up. I didn't know you literally have a whole crew of children! What a lovely family.
That’s awesome y’all have raw milk in the grocery stores! It’s illegal here.
Where is here?
@@stephanie53127 Louisiana. You can’t even have a herd share here.
@@BereanBaker that so wrong what if you have few family's that join in together to by half a cow or whole one helps if some one in the group know how to prosses the meat makes it cheaper for every one
Indiana too
Carolyn, I enjoy all of Homesteading Family's content here on YT but can I just say how lovely this video was! Seeing your family and your day to day in a vlog style video is very refreshing. I would love it if these made regular appearances. :)
I agree, I love seeing the day to day stuff too
Me three😂
Sweet family…. The cheese making starts at 9:05
Thenkbfor that, couldn't get through the beginning 🙈
As much as I enjoy the Pantry Chat and classroom format, I like this vlog style a lot too! It makes me happy to see you and your beautiful children. :) God bless your family!
Cracked me up to see you counting the kids to make sure you had them all❤️! I only had two and forgot one in Wal-Mart one time (I didn’t get out of the parking lot before we realized) lol!
😂I have 3 thankfully I havent forgot anyone in a store BUT I have forgot that one was at her friends house and I kept knocking on her door telling her it was dinner time 🤣
I'm the oldest of 8 kids. We always did a head count.
My mom forgot me at tractor supply once...she got halfway home before my sister said anything 🤦🤣
It was fine though I just hung out with the chickens and helped people find stuff until she got back...I didn't have a cell phone but I was kinda used to being forgotten places and just waited until she came back 😅
LMAO!!!
What a wonderful grocery store. In Virginia you cannot purchase raw milk from the store or from a farmer (unless for feeding animals) You must be in a herd share to make it legal. Unfortunately, the herd shares are prohibitively expensive. So, I’m really glad to learn we can use regular pasteurized milk for cheese.
Same in NC
Can't buy raw milk anywhere in Canada. Crazy
Same in Colorado, there is no difference in "for feeding animals" talk to the farmer, they have to market it that way. We bought it for over a year and it was really good. It was a two hour round trip so that is why we stopped.
Thank you for this video so many people make cheese videos having access to raw or unpasteurized milk . but never make video on store bought
I am sensitive to dairy. I sneeze and get all congested in my sinuses. I love cheese!!!!! It's so hard to not eat it!!! Raw milk looks so wonderful to work with! I'm in Minnesota so I guess you can get it from a farmer at their farm and you need to bring your own container. I'd love to make cheese for my family!
Thank you so much! As usual, your explanations are so soothing, as well as thorough.
And what a lovely bunch of kids!
This brings back such great memories from my childhood. I'm the oldest of 8 children and going "to town" was always an adventure. I was always counting heads whenever we would go somewhere. There were two incidents I remember leaving someone behind. We had a diry about 5 miles away. We brought our own jugs and it was a dollar a gallon. It was the best milk ever! Anyway, thanks for the video. Im getting on the waitlist for sure!! Looking forward to the class! Much love to you and your family!!💙🌎✌
For us newbies, you didn’t explain what a “culture” is or how to get/make it; please explain.
Probably so that you will purchase the courses to learn the specifics
Thank you so much for this video! We don't have livestock yet and I've tried several times to make cheese from store-bought milk and I think some of these tips will help me finally find success!!
So fun to see such beautiful, healthy farm raised children! It's so satisfying :) Thanks for the great video. It's amazing to see how much more milk variety there is available in your American grocery store verses our Canadian stores. Very poor selection here. We're so grateful that we're able to live off the land like you folks are doing. Blessings!
Not all American stores. I'm trying to figure out where they live, so I can buy there. Sadly, I think I know & there's no way I can afford it. :/
What kind of culture are you adding?
I love how nice you all look to go to town!! I can’t wait to spend a day with my crew making dairy products !
Great job with your kids, they are well behaved and educated. Great parenting 🙏🏼
TY for this simple vid. Awesome gift to the newbie cheese makers!
So awesome! I'll have to pay more attention when I go to the grocery store ❤ And I recently inquired about raw milk share from a local farm! Thank you and God bless
Great info. 🧀! We live far from town too. We keep an iced cooler in the van on food shopping day so all cold and frozen things stay cold. We used to get raw milk from a farmer who was threatened by the “industry” and was forced to stop selling. Was $1 per gallon. 😕.
You guys make me proud to call Idaho home. May God bless your family and channel.
I enjoyed your milk & cheese information almost as much as seeing your beautiful family!!! 🥰
You're so lucky you are able to get raw milk, even in your grocery store.
Up here in Canada we had a farmer near Toronto who had cow shares in his dairy herd. What happened, hus farm was raided, he was arrested, he was charged (for selling raw milk), went to court, found guilty, went to jail, almost lost his farm.
Welcome to Chinada, home of democracy, NOT!
Get rid of the n0tssees!!! Trudy is as bad as Ped0j0e!
Honestly I agree with all these good comments. You are the best mother and wife and homesteader anyone can ever be. You've had many kids and still look like you're 25 and even still have a passion and purpose in life...just life goals. THANK YOU FOR EXISTING ❤❤🙈❤❤ Sending even more light and luck your way 💫🍀💫🍀💫
I really appreciate you and your husband . I hope someday to have a homestead or a house to rent thats got land. Ive raised all 4 of my kids.. I m now a grandmother of 4 with a live for gardening and learning about herbs and absolutely love learning
What a beautiful family!!!! Thanks for sharing your skills and knowledge!
I have watched many of your videos first Thank you ☺️
My sister and you are a lot of a like and oddly you 2 look alike.
My sister only has one child though she has a heart shaped uterus that makes it hard to have any, the one child they had she called Grace, because by the grace of God she carried her to term.
I wish I could post a photo for you of her.
We both do all that you do I homesteaded 27 years but still love it. Thanks again for all that you do. Holly
I just want to say I love ur videos I'm cali raised in the city of Los Angeles moved to indianana last year it's been a dream of mine to homestead and ur tips have been so wonderful The Lord continue to bless and keep ur a blessing to many people.. I also like to say I love how modest and girly u dress ur girls in cali it's hard to see girls look like girls truly an example for today's world
I just love Super 1. We don't have one out here in ND. Cant wait to come back home for good next year. This is where I bought my raw milk. Loved my Thursday Milk and Egg day. I so look forward to it.
You are such a natural beauty! Stunning smile and your eyes are just GORGEOUS! 🥰 I love watching your videos and genuinely appreciate your willingness to share your wisdom and knowledge. One of my very favorite homestead channels!
You have the most well-behaved children I have ever seen. You are an amazing mother and an amazing person!
I am so grateful that you share and teach healthy living! I wish I was your neighbor!
I was amazed to see raw milk in your store, not in Oregon! I found someone selling raw milk but she wanted $18 for a half gallon. I did find low pasteurized at New Seasons for $6 a half gal. so I plan to try my hand at cheese making, thanks!
Our local milk is same price, nor cal
GOD'S BLESSINGS ON YOU AND THE FAMILY 👪 🙏 THANK GOD FOR BLESSINGS LIKE Y'ALL 👍
Love the video; off to our raw milk dairy farmer.😊😊Your children are incredibly blessed to grow up on the farm with loving parents.
Of all the things I've been inspired to learn.....making my own cheese wasn't one of them, because I just presumed it would be too hard. Hopefully you'll prove me wrong Carolyn! 🤪👌🙏
Thank you sweet momma...I always learn so much from you and I just adore your gorgeous farm crew.
I love when you said "WOW I think we better get one of those!"
Thank you for making this I didn't know you could make this from store bought milk !!!!
Thank you so much for this information and loved the garden and all the flowers you had in the intro, so pretty 🌸Yes we have a dairy farmer in Alabama built on the honor system, just like that, and I think so nice.
The first thing I noticed is how good a job you have done raising your children. I'm 61, and I don't behave that well in the store. I may try cheese making.
I grew up in a family of 9 -- seeing all the kids in the 15-passenger van brings back memories! (we called it our "church van").
This is my first time watching you. I can already tell I’m going to love watching you and your beautiful family.
Thanks for your cheese making video's. Today is my first visit to your video.
Shalom
Blessings from Durban North, South Africa.
Hahaha...I had 6 kids and yes, market day was something and always a trip to the park to feed the ducks...🥰🥰🥰...wonderful memories...lol
Good morning. Love the follow along and with the family. 🥰
Perfect family. This mother is a perfect mother and wife.
I've been wanting to make cheese forget, but life keeps happening and sidetracked me from doing so. Hopefully this will come to fruition! What supplies will I need to get before the class?
Wow. Thank you for showing us this valuable skill. I especially want to thank you for using that thermometer in tue pot…I was holding it with my hand and saw you with some kind of clip. I figured that cover for the thermostat out!
I love your channel!! God has blessed you with 9 kiddos❤️. That's so wonderful! I'm excited to try out the cheese recipe!
I would love to take the cheese class but being retired and fixed income cańt afford it too bad I didn’t see this 2 years ago. Love your channel
I love your channel. Thank you for all you share.❤
Do you perhaps know how they used to make cheese in the early days when they couldn't purchase prepared cultures etc?
It's nice to know nice people like you exist. Thanks
We don't have close to any variety of dairy products in our stores, that you have! Nor, are we allowed to buy NonFDA products from any small scale farmers. They receive a huge fine for selling it. Big envy here.
Enjoyed your video. I'm 72, had a dairy cow for decades, and loved making homemade cheeses, and other dairy products. I miss it so much.
Enjoyed this video not sure I’m ready to make cheese but it sure was awesome watching you make it. Have a blessed day. Lisa@moneypit homestead
Thanks, for sharing Were in the Midwest we buy(pastured A2 milk & eggs for $ 1.50 a gallon/doz.
Those are great prices! I’m from Ohio and in my area eggs are around $2-4/dozen and the raw milk (only through herd-share) comes to about $6/gallon. I buy non-homogenized milk that’s been vat pasteurized from a local farm for $4.
Wow...that’s incredibly good prices!! Here in Maine pasture raised eggs run $4-$7 doz. We raise both organic layers and meat-birds; the meat-birds fetch about $27-$40 per 4-6 lb bird at market; we pick up our raw milk at the farm for $6.50 gallon. A2 raw milk is nearly impossible to find, a small dairy up north 3 hrs sells it but it’s pricey at nearly $10 gallon. Nothing here is cheap, it’s beautiful country but everything is so expensive.
@@Ourlittleredfarmhouse Thanks, we feel our prices here are cheaper than we can raise the animals... We do raise grass fed beef, though.
great video. thanks for making it and sharing. you have a lovely family. God bless you
Where do you purchase your
Rennet and calcium chloride.
Thank you
God bless you and your family thanks for teaching me something new.
Your videos are so helpful! Ty for making them! Can we talk home-made cheese presses and cheese caves? Idk what the cheese needs in the cave temp and humidity wise. I want to make the cave and the press.
It's so different seeing "vlog" style videos....very refreshing!
This vlog really inspires me to start making cheese again.
I love the kid counting. Very practical.
thank you for your Chanel and all the good information you bring with your videos. 👍
You make this whole process look so achievable! Love your editing!
Goodnessme you have a big family,I have 2of my own and 2 of step children, now grown up and kids of their own.I found I had to make my own ,or go look for bargins.Taught my kids how to shop....they taught my grandkids .But these days I like to experiment wiith new cooking idears......and love to it store it away ,or give to the family....who love it.
What a great day out with the kids!
You totally inspired me to see if there is a local farm near me where I could buy raw milk.💜
You really have to read the labels on everything these days. I live in Canada, usually buy organic dairy but my store was out of organic cream. So I grabbed a container of non organic 35% cream. Good thing I read the label. It contained, thickeners and sodium benzoate. The only ingredient should be 100% cream and NOTHING else. Back it went.
What a beautiful family.
Thank you 🙏 for your video , God bless your family
Thank you for this great video! I don’t know how to get cheese forms, and would like some information on the additional burner you use. My over-the-range microwave tends to crowd my large pot usage. Thanks again!
I love “field trips” they are so much fun:)
Would it be good to start out with actual buttermilk or is the buttermilk what must be added to plain milk in order to go to the next steps toward curds?
I have always disliked buttermilk to drink, but love it for cooking! So instead of buying buttermilk and being wasteful, I just use lemon in sweet milk to cause it to clabber! Works like a charm!
Thank you for this i try very hard to get unpasteurized milk , not easy at all!
So this can come in handy
Amazing that you can have raw milk in stores! What state are you in? We are waiting for our jersey to be in milk but in the meantime I am going to try this!
Unfortunately in Washington State raw milk is illegal to be sold 😭
You have such a beautiful family! 💝
Y'all are so amazing ! Thank you.
Blessings, julie in TV ID
What is “culture”, or what should be used in this recipe for culture? Thank you. You’re amazing!
Great video. Y'all are a beautiful family ❤️.
Thank you, great ideas, love your adorable children 😇🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I would like to be on wait list for the dairy class. I enjoy all your videos.
I'm amazed at how many raw versions you have! Here it is only the rare health food store that carries it, and only for pet consumption..... and it tastes sour, not like raw milk should taste.
Oh I definitely want in on that class.
Well from New Mexico. It is illegal in New Mexico to buy or sell raw milk. Those of us that live near Texas, share with those who live in Dona Anna county, sometimes it’s my turn to go to Texas, which is only about 35 miles away. A grew up on raw milk so I’m really partial to rob milk! Make the best keyboard. My mother made the Wildberry the grill in the desert. Looking forward to this and many other recipes!
Beautiful, well behaved children, you should be so proud.
Great video, thank you 😇🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Thank you
You are so pleasant. Love your videos. God Bless you and your family.
