Data point: I totally did buy the weird one. Just seemed like a fun addition to a field watch collection already full of black, grey, and drab dials. While definitely tempted by the yellow version, the charming "functionality" and cheerful coloring just really grabbed me. Feels like something that has the potential to be a bit of a cult classic...?
I'd already gotten a similar vibe from the product shots, so I'm glad to hear they remind of Traska's subtly excellent wearing experience.

When I bought my first watch,a Smiths, womens watches were tiny and a mans' watch was around 35mm. Of course it would have been in inches. Any fool can adapt an alarm clock to be a watch but it takes skill to make one small and legible. I have a diver that was given to me that's 44mm. Never wear it. Don't dive.

    • @caseydarrah
      @caseydarrah Před 9 měsíci

Yeah, watches have become massive in the last 50 years. When I was a high school kid in the 90s, a man's watch was 34-40mm. A 43mm G-Shock 5600 was considered a truly MASSIVE watch, and one that you'd never wear in anything outside work or sport scenarios. Now I've seen companies try and claim 40 as a women's watch- it took some doing for my wife to find a somewhat dressy watch in the 25-30mm band. My Baltany on my wrist as I write this is 36, and it's easily readable, fairly slim, and tough.@@martinsaunders7925

Amazing watch. I actually like the oversize crown. I think it gives the watch character, like a good looking man or woman with a big nose. Another nice detail is the heavily chamfered edges on the skin side of the bracelet and case. Too many watches keep these edges sharp and uncomfortable, but this watch was clearly designed to actually be worn. Also, the applied markers are a nice touch. Painted markers would have been fine, but the applied markers give the dial some nice depth and dimension. Very impressive watch.

Being something of a field watch aficionado, I was instantly captivated by the looks of the watch. The one caveat, for me, though, is the movement. I don’t mind that it’s a Miyota, however, I do mind that it’s mechanical. Lately I’ve been leaning towards field watches that have quartz movements (Hamilton, Marathon, Aqua Terra etc…). I’ve come around to the notion that a reliable quartz movement in a simple, rugged, good looking field watch, go hand-in-hand… Set it and forget it and every time you need to go, grab it. If Clemence cases a HAQ inside this watch in the future I’m buying 2, one black and one amber.

Pretty much a perfect watch. Wished they would offer it in other colours though.

Those are lovely, I disagree with some about full lume dials requiring black hands, I think of you have a fairly wide boarder around the lume, painted a dark colour, you can still get really good legibility.

Very cool watch. Especially the amber. Reminds me more of an Alpinist than an Explorer, but I see that someone else has mentioned the same....

Nice looking watch, would prefer a 39 or 40 mm.

I'm sure you must have a pair of shorts to pull off that Ridgeway variant, Jody. Seen a lot of nice watches popping up for review recently and I think the Ridgeway is something that will stick in my mind come my next purchase.

That’s one of the best looking bracelets I’ve ever seen come stock on a watch

I've got between 34mm to 42mm watches so 37mm is a good size for me. Everything is perfectly in proportion so don't think the size matters much. Nice to see no Nh38, I would go for the black, the multicoloured one looks a bit like a sampler. With no date it wouldn't get much wrist time, so a bit pricy. Very like an Explorer homage so good to see dial and hands completely different, don't think they will be taking customers from Rolex.

solid review…This is a beauty…particularly in amber. Watches without bezels around 37-38 look perfect on my 7 inch wrist. I like the box sapphire a lot. I dont really really like the brand name but that would not put me off

That all lume dial is inspiring me. I got an assortment of luminescent pigment to play with.
Favorite watch I have is still the Carnival in white dial tritium indicies and day date with anti reflective coating. Reason i love it is i can ALWAYS see the time clearly in all light conditions.

I don't like full lume dials when the hands don't contrast at all. Might as well have not bothered unless you just want to show off.

Thats the motto buy Scottish!!! I'll tell you Jody. Bought a CCCP diver Limited edition cheap on ebay. Im a watch tinkerer. And found thay the watch was stopping on further investigation realised the movement used was a cheap chinese one. Not the Slava nos as previously thought. These watches retail at 500 usd. Im glad i only got it for 40 quid. Its a project now and I'll see what i can do with it. As aside from the crap movement. Case and bracelet look very good quality.

It would be so cool if the case really was made from girders - sort of the Scottish equivalent of Sinn's submarine steel.
