Inspired by a true story, Playing For Keeps is a story of celebrity, betrayal, legal battles and a mother’s overwhelming love for her child.
Nicole Alpern is a beautiful young sports groupie whose dreams come true when she catches the eye of Ty Rivers, a famous and wealthy basketball star. The two get along well and after Nicole takes him back to her apartment they’re swept up in a whirlwind relationship. He invites her to basketball games and she takes it as a good sign when she is regularly seated beside other home team players’ girlfriends.
The bubble bursts when Nicole discovers she’s pregnant and Ty refuses to believe that the baby is his. With Ty gone and in the face of her father’s disapproval, Nicole gives birth to a mixed race son she names Noah. After a positive DNA test proves the baby is his, Ty comes back into Nicole’s life, but it all comes crashing down when Ty’s wife finds out about the relationship.

In reality not.
Completely feel for this girl when I found out I was pregnant I told the babies dad and he tried forcing me to get an abortion now I’m 25 weeks pregnant with a baby boy and going to be a single mummy I’d rather do it on my own then worry about some pathetic guy. I’ve got my baby and my baby got his mummy that all we both need👶🏼💖💪
Would like to thank to everyone who has liked and commented, never got so many likes and positive comments means a lot thank you so much. Good for your mom. The fact your mom is single most likely has nothing to do with her being a blessing to you. The fact she's a good person, a responsible mother who's mature enough to handle the responsibility and has the love to make a good life for her child, probably does. :)
When a married man comes lusting after me, I use one simple phrase "if you do not respect your wife, I do" 🚮
The thing is from the beginning of this picture these women are the ones"lusting after these men for their money. What about that?

Your statement is a very stupid one. With that said, if a married man cheats with other women, he is disrespecting his wife and the other women he cheats with. So glad she won. She proved that she was the best parent when she made the phone call to the child's father's wife at the end of the movie. Just after that, I imagined what would have happened if the other side had won. I imagined that they would not have been so gracious as her.
Wow...I'm not even finish with the movie...can you not tell it? Thank you!🙄
Perhaps the wife would have convinced her husband to keep the mother in the child's life. They seemed to have come to an understanding by the end of the movie. being a mother changes everything, it gives maturity. lets give me credit to the brilliant lawyer also.
The bond between Noah and his grandfather
I’m a proud black woman but I would never let anyone take my child away from me how would this black woman feel if someone would try and take her children away from her what they doing to Nicole is unfair.. What about the supportive parents the grandfather is and always has been there available for protection, love, caring.. why don’t they see that
I think the wife has been on her side the whole time. It's like she could feel Nicole's pain in spite of there being a child outside her marriage in the first place. The wife saw Nicole as a WOMAN {a MOTHER}, not a mistress.
This story provided so many things ONE that color doesn't matter,TWO being famous doesn't matter,THREE being rich doesn't matter,FOUR being married with kids doesn't matter. The most important thing is that child is loved by the mother is far more important than the color of his skin. Now if the world could do the same, what a wonderful world this would be
I am glad that they are looking at a mother's love more seriously. Before the year 2000 this was not taken into consideration.

I like the character of Ty's wife, she able to accept Ty's son from other woman and she support his husband to take responsibility of the child. Thats awesome.. She has good heart and love. ❤❤

id have to disagree with u on that...every parent loves their child whether mother or father
Not always. Some women bear children but are not made to be mothers.
However, I would say this movie had a happy ending.
True.
There is no doubt that a father loves his children, but it's different for mothers. We carry our babies inside our bodies for nine months and they are part of us. I will always remember what it felt like the first time my son moved inside me. I was happy the entire nine months and I loved how it felt. My life changed completely when he was born and became the most important thing in my life. Children are a part of their mother.
Yes they can it happens all the time. What do you think adoption is about? Also many mothers destroy their children before their born!!

I look forward to a society that will hold men accountable for their actions. Most of you are saying "Women should say No to married men." What about him? Must he be going around approaching single women, and these women should say No to protect his marriage? Who's Married here? Married men must start acting married and respect their wives. Men must learn loyalty. Men must be good role models to their kids. If you're married, it's your responsibility to hold your end of your vows. Period! Nice story. Thrill was maintained till the end. Nobody, irrespective of colour or race, except mother knows how to grow and develop a child affectionately. They are the great source of life and enthusiasm for a child.
This was a very well-rounded movie. He was loved by his birth mother, father and step mother. In the end the courts made a wise decision and the birth mother wanted the father and step mother to still be an active part in the son's life. She took the mature route.
Birth mother? How about mother!
The decision of calling the wife and allow them to share the baby|s life with the fathers baby means she totally made a decision out if love to her child and the court gave custody to the right person, the mother,
I just feel from the start it would have been better for all involved to work together without fighting and unnecessary spending, etc. Most of all I'm glad that the boy wasn't traumatized through any of it.
I did think about how when a child has to switch back and forth to home's (as a long term very Dear friend that spent 20 year in te Army, away from home most of time told me that it makes it difficult for someone moving all the time to learn to settle down. So when my son's Father fought for every other 7 day's I fought for different. Not to mention it was affecting his grades terribly. That alone made me fight even harder for his call around future! His father actually had the principal team up with them to fight unfairly! Which before it was all over with list his job. With that part of my fight, I fought not just for my child. I fought for mine plus those that went to school with him and those to follow. Other parents took their children from that school until I fought to change that. Most of those that left came back once he was gone. While the fight was on though, none of those other parents stood by me. It hurt a bit, but I had more important agendas to achieve.
"You never know how strong you really are until you have to be."
Sorry for the long post. Thanks for reading.
As for his father using a marriage to his advantage was a crock if you ask me. He and his new wife had no children together. It definitely bothered me that I knew when he was there, it was more with his new bride than with his father. What was the point really? In fact before me he had his 1st wife and 2 kids. When we had the children, it was more like I had his children, not him. His 1st ex wife grew to really trust, appreciate and respect me. She knew I put her children before myself, etc. Enough when one of them had injured themselves, bicycle accident and couldn't go to school, and she still had to work she'd call me to go to her home to care for that child. She was a school teacher. Without my knowledge she'd wrote our school board a letter saying she knew I'd be beneficial to be a substitute teacher. She felt qualified in saying so not just because she was a teacher but that I also cared for children part time. Then she made a copy of letter and sent both letters out, 1 came to me. That was the biggest, best compliment I received ever! It actually teared me up. I still have that letter. He fought cancer, she didn't make it. She held on until they finished high school + a little longer. I loved her, she was a good person. It took her about a year at the beginning to come around to me. At time's we'd have long phone conversations, no special reasons. And if I needed her to back me with her children because their father wouldn't with disciplining them, she had my back. If either of her children brought important conversation to me for advice. I always told them what I felt, thought but always encouraged them to still talk to their Mom because we may not have the same opinions. I'd also call her with such important conversations but ask not to let them know I'd called her about them. If we'd break that trust we both may lose that trust. I'd asked her to conveniently bring up such subject her children and I would discuss in they she'd noticed the this and that's. We made a good team for her 2 children. Until they moved out of state. Their father and I would go to them one weekend a month. Of course he tapered that off to part Holiday vacations and some time of the summer. By then they were older, wanted more time with their friends. I thought it was sad really, I spent more time with them than he did. When they moved their Dad wanted to fight. I was against it. And the lawyer he took us to basically told him the same thing's I did. "For the kids sake, and their Mom I was glad." I never told his 1st wife how he wanted to fight her. They didn't deserve that.
Having never personally lived with my own Dad. Didn't even know him until I was 6 year's old. Eventually went to his home to visit, his wife resented me. She was hateful. My visits there didn't last. And if they insisted I go visit their if my Mom didn't come with me, it wasn't happening. As I got older I made an agreement with my Dad: He and could visit anytime as long it was just he and I but not there. Only but a few time's did he take advantage of that offer. He never financially supported me nor otherwise really. Except showed up for my only wedding, and the birth of my son. And the burial of my Mother. He had my love for the fact he helped in giving me life. And what I knew about him came from my Aunt, his twin sister. Whom I spent lot's of time with! And his parents. People can be strange.
Why do you have to use the phrase "birth mother" to describe his mother? That's so weird. She's his mother. If she was his foster mother fighting for custody, I'd understand the use of the phrase "foster mother". In this case, that distinction just seemed redundant.
Sometimes the wife just wants revenge. Period.
This lawyer was amazing sometimes lawyers are underestimated for their incredible work...this shows us to give them a chance
I love the ending. That is a lesson to learn that having a baby with your husband will bring unnecessary headaches, heartache, and turmoil. Raising your child in a functional family home is best for everyone in society.

Only mothers fight for their children. A mother’s love is given to her by God, a gift.
Me too. Was so moved by the ending
@@brendalittlejohn8730 Wrong. Plenty of mothers don't fight for their kids, or care about them one single bit.
My mother? Well, I told her when I was like 8 or 9 that my stepfather was abusing me, and she said 'Oh you must be making that up'. He continued abusing me, so I told her I wanted to go and live with my Dad, and she said 'okay', and literally dropped me off on his back steps.
Shortly after that, her, my brother, and my stepfather moved to another state, and I never really saw them again.
Not all mothers fight for their kids.
And not only mothers fight for their kids. A male friend of mine accidentally got his girlfriend pregant. She wanted an abortion, he wanted the baby. She eventually said that if he wanted the baby so much, she would go through with the pregnancy, but, the second it was born, it was 100 percent his responsibility, and she never wanted anything to do with the baby.
He had to sign a thing promising he would never contact her, again, ever, and never tell the baby the mother's name, so, thah when the baby was grown up, he could never find her.
So that's what they did. She gave birth, handed the baby - a boy - over to him, and that was that. That baby boy is now somewhere in his mid-twenties, and is fine with never having know his mother.
She cheated with a married man. Good grief.

This movie reminds me of how my baby daddy abandoned me when I was pregnant in 2019. How he chased me out of his house with a restriction order. I wasnt supposed to call him, nothing and yet I was pregnant for him. He wasnt married but had several women up his sleeve and I got to know when it was already too late. I went to court when my baby boy was 3 months old. But everytime, he would bribe lawyers to get his way. Thanks be to God, 2 months ago i won full custody of my son finally and baby daddy gives me child support though he complains too much. My son will be 2 years old in June, and baby daddy says he will apply for custody when he is 3 years old. Am so prepared to fight for my child.

MY GRANDMOTHER ON MY MUMS SIDE TOOK A HIKE WHEN MY MUM WAS 6yrs , YOUNGEST OF FOUR DAUGHTERS, MY MUM VOWED NEVER TO LEAVE HER CHILDREN, NO MATTER WHAT,SHE HAS PASSED NOW, I HAD A MAGICAL CHILDHOOD WITH BOTH PARENTS LOVING AND ALWAYS THERE FOR ME AND MY SIBLINGS
EVERY CHILD ,PERSON AND ANIMAL SHOULD HAVE ALL OF THAT
No one is talking about the lawyer... He's damn sooo commited
And needs to get his Suits Ironed.
I'm proud and so big salute to this filmmakers.
The best part of movie is how both side show parental love for a child can go so far to get custody both side shows cooperation is rly worth watching
She deserves to win the custody regardless of the racial issue. He left her when was pregnant and she has raised him up by herself. Justice
Hi did not want a baby from her ,I think this was unfair and she should not be with him from the minute she knew he was married the women always do this could not choose a single man ? Or reversed ? !!
this is common since you just have to spend alot of money an play the game before they come to that conclusion. If everyone use the own brains to see what in the best interest of the child . You can teach that baby about his culture without him been taken away from his birth mother. That's ridiculous an the fact that people have to spend thousands of dollars for is pathetic. If parents all around the world just agree on working out there issues instead of running to the courts making people wealthy they the custody department will bankrupt
I agree, race should have absolutely NOTHING to do with it!! It should be about, who’s the best and most responsible parent to raise the child........
@@anyacika1978 its still his fault

This is a very good movie on all aspects! The storyline, the dialogues, the acting. Best free CZcams movies ever!
Anyways, as much as I feel for Nicole, I have to give it to Beverly. She is a good mother who loves Noah and so forgiving to her husband and tried to do the best for her family.
Ayyyyyeeee, Ayyyyyeeee!!!
Lol... I just wanted to say that I agree with you... Nicole put herself in a crazy position in the first place... Don't get me wrong, she was on birth control, so she was being responsible when it came to that...
My heart honestly breaks for both women, bc he played them both...
He's a scumbag!!!
I'm not mad at the wife either, bc her sorry butt husband, cheated on her & we all know that wasn't the first time either...
But the wife stepped up & even though it was a huge, hard pill to swallow, she came around & was good with Noah!!!!
A lot of women wouldn't have done that...
Bc it's a constant reminder that their husband cheated on them & now has a child & or children with these other women...
I'm proud of Nicole, stepping up & handling her business as a Mother, woman, ect...
She wasn't trying to get a "meal ticket" from Ty, she actually started having true feelings for him & of course she wanted a relationship with him... Why idk, bc he's not a "real man"...
He's a teenager in a mans body...
Playing with both of their emotions, hearts, ect...
So I SALUTE both women!!!
I swear, I can't stand men like this...
I can't stand the fact that they play with these women head, hearts, ect...
& Nicole was honest with him, about him being the father & DNA PROVED that he indeed was the father!!!!
Ohhh... That's another thing I can't stand about men....
Just bc their out running in these streets, with this woman, that woman, ect...
doesn't mean that every woman you've been with is doing the same thing as you, with other men... SMH!!!!!
I'm just being honest with you!!!!!!
This movie has a lot of powerful aspects that the entire human race can learn from. Extremely enjoyable!!

Everyday is a mothers day❣️❣️❣️ a mom who will do everything, anything for her children ❣️❣️
IT'S A GREAT STORY! It's real. And I love the end. That's what I kept thinking.. "They can HELP raise the child without taking him away from his Mom"
When you have a child that you care and do everything for all by yourself you will fight to keep him or her no matter what...I would go any length for my daughter. Single parent go through alot and God will continue to help and strengthen us...gréât movie
While I’m black myself I was 100% on mums side. She fought hard for her baby and for the simple fact that he slept with her knowing he had a wife & family and then tried deny his son he didn’t deserve shared custody
While I am black and concur that his biological mom deserved custody of her son Noah, his infidelity is not a reason to deny him a shared custody with the child. The fact that he initially denied the child as his son still does not deny him the right to shared custody. The first point on the infidelity....both the biological mother and father of Noah are CHEATERS. And even if his father is a superficial jerk (regardless of the exterior of charity work and him being a "good father" BS), that doesn't mean that the child should not get the opportunity to know his sisters and his stepmother and by extension his superficial father that appears as a good father on "paper" because his wife props him up and loves all 3 of his children to include the illegitimate one when he doesn't. If he loved both his daughters he would be out sticking his male member in other women instead of being home with his family spending time with them. Time spend partying like he is single and has no children paints a completely different picture....But the wife/stepmother should not be punished and neither should the three children. I am glad Noah's birth mother decided to put Noah first as opposed to hold a grudge that would have ended up hurting her son. Good on both women. The tears of relief in that stepmother's eyes show how much she loves Noah....where is the father's love and affection for Noah other than treating him as a progeny for when his basket ball days are over and he wants to continue living his life through his son?
So true because he walked away the moment she told him that she was pregnant 😡😡😡
Nathalie Wilson I only say he should get a paper giving him any rights coz he didn’t act like a dad at all until it was conveniente for him. Noah’s mum never stopped any contact and never stopped him being a dad. He should get to say today is my dad etc. I just think as a mum btw that child has been hers from day one she should make every decision.
@@lisamarina6076 He is NOT a father but a "biological sperm donor". He is not there for his legitimate children (both his daughters) nor his illegitimate child (son). If you read my initial comment, you will see that I said that his biological mother deserved custody. And while she deserved custody, I do not believe his father should be cut out of his life. As far as the decisions on Noah's life goes, while his mother that he lives with should be the main decision maker, in life changing situations, I believe his father and step-mother should contribute IF they have stepped up to be parents in his life. His father has not by the end of the film....but his step-mother cares for him by the small snippets that the movie have shown even though limited.

Funny how they using the father's morals as a foundation when he's the reason this whole situation came about. He should been faithful to his wife FULLSTOP!!!!!
The non married party commits adultery too. They both were morally challenged. The full stop should come after that.

"god" made sure she had an adorable baby? the fuck is wrong with you.
I absolutely loved this movie and could totally identify with it. I'm an African American woman with a mixed heritage (3rd generation mixed heritage). I'll be 65 years young in a few months and as i get older i embrace all of my ethnicities. I think it would be an insult to all of my ancestors to do otherwise. My paternal Grandfather was bi-racial (mom was black and father white) and he looked white and could totally pass for a white man. He was born in 1896 down in the Delta's of Mississippi when blacks and whites could not legally marry, even if they wanted to do so. My paternal Great Grandmother could've been killed for having a baby by a white man and keeping her bi-racial son. She was young so her black parents raised him. I don't even think his white father was a part of his life. He may have even been married but the times were not kind to interracial mixings. I do, however, understand that he never denied that he was his son. Nevertheless, I'm so proud of my Grandfather because he chose to live his life as a black man. I don't know how many people would have done so. Yes, he got some privileges i'm sure because of the color of his skin. The only one I know is that he was admitted into the World Series Game when the St. Louis Cardinals were playing and that was his favorite team. Black people couldn't attend the games back at that time, but Grand Dad walked right on into the stadium with no problems (cute). On a serious note, my Grandfather, Lee Harris, helped to build up his beloved, Mound Bayou, Ms. which was ironically the first all-black city in the USA. He helped to build the first Seminary there and became a philanthropist in many ways. Grandfather went on to become one of the most successful farmers in the State of Mississippi according to Jet Magazine during the 1940's & 50's which were my father and his brother whose mother was definitely a black woman. They were born in 1927 & 1929 during an era where race relations was still a problem. My paternal Grandmother and her black husband raised my Dad & his brother along with the 5 other children that they had together. It was obvious, however, that my father and his brother were not her husband's sons. However, as they got much older, they were told who their biological father was other than just a family friend. He even supported them financially on a low key level not because he was bi-racial but because he was married and the boys were born during his marriage. My Grandfather's wife, a black woman who looked mixed race herself, loved those boys as if she gave birth to them regardless until the day she died at age 96 years old. Even though i am a 3rd generation mixed race woman I still felt the effects of it. A lot of people thought i was Malota or Hispanic due to the tone of my skin and the texture of my hair. I had as many white friends as i did black friends from elementary in the 1960's until i graduated in 1976. Ironically, it was the black children that teased me and called me an "Uncle Tom." I was not black enough for some of them and not light enough for some of the white children. I was ok with it all because my parents taught their children to love EVERYBODY regardless of ethnicity, socio-economic background, religion, sexual orientation, gender, etc. My siblings taught their children the same (I never gave birth to any children). Now we are one big melting pot family of 3 generations. I have a niece and nephew whose spouses or significant other are white with bi-racial children, one niece is married to an Hispanic man who speaks no english but she's fluent in spanish and they have 3 beautiful children who speak several languages fluently and my other nieces and nephews that are married have black spouses and black children. We CANNOT afford to be prejudice against anyone. I'm happy for the outcome of the movie without it being spoiler. Hopefully, Noah will grow up and learn the best of both worlds being a bi-racial child as long as all parties (parents and step-parents) are in full agreement and cooperate. God bless the child🥰😍"LOVE IS LOVE!!!" Sincerely, Mrs. Dana Harris Carter of Atlanta, GA.
I highly appreciate your comment and I think that you are a very good writer who described her whole story in an interesting way. I read all of your comment by my heart feeling the suffering of the black people in the past . I am a Palestinian moslem lady who loves all the races and respects all the religions. My message for all the world is to love each other regardless our races. Thank you again for your comment .I hope you live peacefully and have a long life of happiness.
Wow you don’t see this kind of story often! It’s awesome! Loved every minute but especially the ending.
Loved the ending....How she showed her heart and let them still be a part of Noah's life!! Not many would have done that after he went for sole custody!! She did the right thing. ..All of them together will help Noah become a great young man one day!! 💖
The real guy stopped seeing the kid and paying child support afterwards
I don’t think she didn’t not want him (or them because they are a couple) in his life. It became an issue when the father wanted to get soul custody, that’s when things became an issue. I bet it would’ve never been an issue if he didn’t go fighting for full custody when there wasn’t an issue in the first place.
@@cooleenw you know the real life story?
@@eunicemarisha2601 The movie was based on the true story of Vancouver Grizzles player Blue Edwards and Kimberly Van de Perre. Filmed on location where the events happened. so i'd just like to add a comment letting all you single fathers know that you are amazing and your doing a great job too!! mothers and fathers have equal rights to there children Xx
Yes but in this case he doesn't have right to ask for the custody of this child. What is the reason of that? Also if my ex took my child to later left him with his new wife while he not at home. Wow, he is a disgusting father with zero moral. No judge can tell me to give my baby to no one until he have at least 3 year old that he can talk to me and tell me that he is okay. I have 2 children and that does no happen to me for sure. I don't care what the laws or so one have to say to me in that moment. It would have been equal if he had shared the time of carrying the baby on his belly and the danger or pain of giving birth to him. And then that his body would transform that only a surgery take it to normality😂 Women want equality but men want us at home, washing his clothes and taking care of their children, and if we work, even if we do the same job, the men at work want to pay us less. Equality 😂😂😂😂.
