Clinical Nurse Specialists Improving Early Diagnosis of Prostate Cancer - Outreach Service

Clinical Nurse Specialists Fiona Mutch and Beth Westaway share how 'The Man Van' programme works and explain their role supporting people who access their services. Their nurse-led clinics include comprehensive physical assessments, health education and health promotion, and life-saving follow up advice and treatments. Fiona and Beth explain other aspects of their Clinical Nurse Specialist role, such as running telephone clinics and collaborating with multi-disciplinary team members.
The Man Van initiative, from the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, is a fantastic example of a nurse-led outreach programme that provides free health checks for men. This programme aims to improve early diagnosis of prostate cancer and other urological cancers. Clinics are held on the van by Clinical Nurse Specialists who visit harder to reach communities across London.
I hope that Modules Leads and learners find this video helpful. The Man Van initiative is an excellent example of a nurse-led outreach programme that is saving lives. Every 45 minutes, one man dies from prostate cancer in the UK, which is more than 12,000 men a year.
