I watched the show legitimately until three fourths into the fisman island arc. I gave up and watched OnePace the rest of the way (fan edited manga recreation of the story) I just finished DressRosa, oh my goooooooooood. My future prediction now is Luffy will "Awaken" his devilfruit to create an area he can bounce off as gear fourth and be an unstoppable cannonball of strength. He's GOING TO BE THE PIRATE KING!!!
Hamster boy TV they reached punk hazard the same day they the strawhats regrouped on sabaody. Then they go to dressrosa which takes them 2-3 days and arrive in the afternoon, luffy defeats doffy and they stay overnight. The next day they leave and they arrive at zou in one week. They haven’t even been in the new world for a month lol
God Usopp, the backstory of both Doflamingo and Law and partially Fujitora... those are the only saving graces of this horrendous arc. I don't think the Kaido introduction belong to this arc, but... you can take that as a positive aspect as well. But everything else is just so bad, a literal coliseum of randoms. I don't understand why Oda wastes so much time with secondary characters, he always did that (is anyone remember Wyper?), but after the time-skip he is wasting even more time with these fucking randoms
I stopped watching one piece back in 2014. Now I started again. I feel so lucky about my choice. I can't even imagine going through dressrosa one week at a time.
the best part of this arc: "Plus, there's this man who pissed me off the most today! It's all his fault. i hate him so much, the one who kills him will get 500 milion $b. God Usopp"
I feel like the reintroduction of sabo is like a trophy to Luffy for continuing his journey after Ace died. If he had stopped there, he never could've met again with his other brother. Besides he's a completely different character than Ace so I really don't see a problem with bringing him back into the story... besides that one plot hole you mentioned.
oldman swagga aka Scooba Steve Of course the amnesia will always seem valid. You’re writing it in for convenience so of course it’ll always “make sense”. That doesn’t make it good writing it’s lazy and cheap. Just because you like the idea of Sabo as a character or think he’s cool doesn’t make his existence meaningful or make any sense. Sabo is sick no doubt but his character wasn’t needed and took away from Aces death and impact.
Nanashi there’s four years in between marine ford and dressrosa. aces impact had four years to be felt. if it was really ruined after four years i don’t think that’s as much of the series issue as it is yours
Nanashi Just because a writing technique is usually used as a cheap way to do something doesn’t the technique itself is bad. Why can’t amnesia work as good writing? Is it because it has been misused by others or is it just a fundamentally flawed writing technique? I also don’t believe that Sabo being alive in anyway took away from Ace’s death, i mean ace had more character than just being dead. If a character lost his mother, i wouldn’t then say introducing his father later on still alive takes away the impact of the mothers death.
I always looked at it as Sabo wasnt the 2nd of rev army before the time skip. He was just a normal warrior in the army. But when he saw ace die in the news and his memories returned he spent the next two years rising the ranks. As well as that's around the time that Kuma disappeared. So I could see there being a big spot for him to fill.
I think Matt Cohen of he One Piece Podcast said it the best "The first half of the arc was awesome, and the second half was awesome, when you put them together they become a very daunting arc" I couldn't agree more, however I think read as a whole makes things so much better. Honestly it's one of my favorites and I think people that still hate it from the weekly grind should really give it another chance.
its fine but since the post war arc was slow and sad after aces death and our cree being separated and luffy knocked out then going insane the fishman island arc sucked and the fact punk hazard was set up for dressrosa means until wano currently we really didn't have a non dressrosa related arc since the early part of the decade..lol...the punk hazard and dreasoraa arcs lasted like 4 years in real time even in the manga and over 5 almost 6 in the anime
and thats the problem, there's a reason the saying "too much of a good thing" exists. and this arc is proof of that. its filled with amazing things, but put together, it becomes too tiresome to keep track of. 100 weeks, its just too long for its own good. it would've worked much better if they just cut it in half and divided it into 2 separate arcs instead.
@@marcosdheleno It's not really different than the other arcs though, even if it is hella longer. OP has been going on for so long that a lot of readers probably started off being able to read entire past arcs, so that colors their perception of these newer arcs that they're forced to get in weekly installments.
@@Nocturne22 So? Not mentioning one of the Yonkos introduction in an arc review is a big sin. And he thinks Viola is forgettable but Mansherry is not? I mean what?
Unpopular opinion: I thought that intro (while a spectacle) was over the top for a character who is 100% going to lose to plot armour. Why hype someone up like that? When it's all said and done, will he even be stronger than Shanks?
Doflamingo is my favorite one piece villian, he's a puppetmaster both figuratively and literally. He had Dressrosa under his foot even more so than Crocodile had Alabasta, and while most villian back stories are there to make you feel sympathy, his kind just shows where his elitist attitude and thirst for power and respect come from. Lastly, he was one of the hardest paramecia fruit user to put down since Luffy :)
The drip for Dressrosa is top tier. Zoro in his suit, Law in his revenge fit coat, Robin in her dress, Luffy in his flower shirt, Doflamingo in his pink pants.
What i find interesting about this arc is it feels like a "what if Crocodile succeeded arc" Cause it has a ton of similarities to the alabasta arc and Crocodile and Donflamingo had close to the same goals but Donflamingo actually succeeded. Both were trying to over the country, frame the king and cause a rebellion but only Don succeeded of course. Plus both are or were obviously warlords doing this. So this does feel like a alternate version of alabasta where no one got there in time to save it.
I like to think that's how Crocodile got the whole idea, right down to looking like a hero to the kingdom's citizens. Also like to think that's why Crocodile turns down Donflamingo's partnership at Marineford, he resents Don for his success.
So I've been waiting to share this data I personally collected! On re-read, I counted up every page of flashbacks for these totals (this is based on perspective; some flashbacks switch back and forth like with Law & Corazon) Kyros: 50 pages Law: 46 pages Corazon: 33 pages Doflamingo: 18 pages Rebecca: 13 pages Sabo: 7 pages Chin Jao: 7 pages Baby5: 7 pages Señor Pink: 6 pages Trebol: 4 pages Sengoku: 3 pages Violet: 2 pages Momonosuke: 2 pages Tsuru: 2 pages Chief Gancho: 1 page Leo: 1 page Buffalo: 1 page Bellamy: 1 page King Riku: 1 page Luffy: 1 page TOTAL FLASHBACKS: 206 pages, or over 10 chapters, or more than 1 full volume's worth, or, back when chapters were releasing every other week, about 5 months in real time
50 pages of Kyros smh Entire volumes of flashbacks is not something new, I am reading the whole thing again (but this time colored, very cool experience) and in Skypea there's also an entire volume of flashbacks lol I was legitimately surprised, didn't remember the norland flashback was so damn long. Then you had another volume of flashbacks featuring fisher tiger and the random fishman queen, etc.. I don't mind when Oda writes huge flashbacks for protagonists or major characters (like Law or Doflamingo), but these secondary characters getting so much screen time is just ludicrous. And yes, I do consider Oden a secondary character and a retcon, so there's another infuriating 50 pages or so of random secondary characters in the Wano arc
I loved the Dressrosa Arc, risks were taken and most of them paid off. Yes, it was long, but it was such a compelling story that it kept me going. My biggest annoyance with the arc was how Rebecca was handled, when she was first introduced I thought that she would go on to do great things, and I was sorely disappointed. But she was a small part of a much larger story that overall went extremely well.
She got hit with a massive dose of one piece women syndrome. She was basically not allowed to be a badass and resolve her own fight because she is pretty. Instead they gave any fights she may've had to her father. I get Oda was going for a sad tragic backstory. But it's like he only wanted Kyros to reclaim the glory and Rebecca wasn't allowed to do it herself. Honestly, I would argue that Kyros should've just been killed at some point whether it be in the present or sometime after she learnt to fight from him. Then, she could feel empowered to settle her own fights herself.
I lost my shit at the Sabo reveal. I know a good deal of people don't like him, but I really like Sabo for what he represents for the Revolutionary Army; you have someone who was born into a position of wealth and privilege but suffered despite that and ended up fighting against the system that put him there in the first place. I also like that he was present for the majority of the arc and helped Luffy, as opposed to Ace who left to go and search for Blackbeard after meeting up with him in Alabasta. NOT SAYING DRESSROSA IS AN ALABASTA CLONE!
@@Saphire1993 i wouldn't exactly say wano is a mirror of skypiea. there are some similarities however i think Wano has way more factors that can effect the arc, and play into the story
fun fact I started reading the manga weekly at the literal beginning of dressarosa. Dressrosa is the example of a arc really out staying it's welcome. I consider dressrosa better then alabasta and skypiea. but 101 chapters !!! cut the arc to 70-80 chapter at the max and this arc would be on par-with marineford and better then WCI. all that being said. dressrosa is a very good arc. it's strength's by far out weigh's it's flaws.. the arc highlight's is Fujitora introduction, law & doflamingo back stories, law vs fujitora and doflamingo. gear 4. luffy vs don chinjoa. zoro vs pica. senor pink back story. sabo re-introduction, DF awakenings. big mom's flag ship queen mama appearances. lol I think I made my point... dressarosa is a very ambitious arc. and I love it for that...
Hamze Ahmed dressrosa really doesnt copy alabasta at all... only similarities dreasrosa has with alabasta is crocodile is a warlord same with doffy and sabo re-introduction and others. Mostly these arc’s are very different.. doflamingo isn’t trying to take over dressrosa like crocodile in alabasta doflamingo has already took over dressrosa. True the straw hat are delivering Cesar like vivi but that just a decoy. The real plan was to destroy the smile factory to anger kaido in turn he would kill doflamingo for failing to deliver on the smile. Challenging Doflamingo and his crew was never part of the plan until doflamingo put up the bird cage then it became mandatory. Little similarities mostly different..
one thing i miss about pre timeskip one piece is the crew actually being together and the fact 2 back to back arcs really had little to do with each other leaving me shocked every time at what came next ..like how barate really has nothing to do with syrup village the way syrup and orangetown don't mesh or how we go from loguetown to laboon to reverse mountain to alabasta to little garden to drum back to alabasta to then jaya and skypeia then water 7 then thriller bark to sabaody to amazon lilly impel down ...it didn't feel as planned like now in the yonko arc...all arcs that don't really mesh are exciting...thriller bark was such a big wtf as was amazon lilly...i just like not knowing...but like since fishman we know the next stop
The straw hat fleet representatives/gladiators vs the doflamingo family was amazing! My favorites being, kyros vs diamante, giant guy (his name is hard too spell D:
@@onionknight984 that depends on if you’re talking about the Dressrosa Saga or the Dressrosa Arc. The saga includes the entire time on Dressrosa, all of Punk Hazard, and the end of FishMan and the start of Zou. But the arc is just the island of Dressrosa and by extension, Punk Hazard. Alabasta Saga starts when they find Laboon and ends when they leave Alabasta, but the actual “Alabasta arc” is just the time spent on the island.
Redha Delf She might've made the connection when Sabo went berserk after getting his memory back and reading about Ace. However I'm not sure if she knew Ace and Luffy were brothers.
Redha Delf It could have be a anime only thing but in episode 737 (I just look it up) Sabo meets the Straw Hats and Robin was the one to tell them that Sabo and Luffy are brothers. She didn't say anything because Sabo has the rights to not her.
My personal favorite arc. Soooooo many amazing charakters, and fights, and storys and so much more. This video was perfect.I know the arc has it's flaws, but I don't care. It was fantastic. The only thing that I didn't like was the fact that Robin didn't got a fight. I think the Arc Reviews and Movie Reviews are your best videos. I hope you'll do the OVA and Episode of... Reviews after this.
well, let's be honest... Robin doesn't really fight, she "does stuff". I think there's only so many ways robin's devil fruit can be used in a fight and maybe that's why her fights are never highlights.
My sister has it #2, Ive got it #8 only below Enies Lobby+Water 7 Skypiea Sabaody Alabasta Marineford Whole Cake Island Arlong Park Also She did capture cavendish and that was a pretty nice feat
Can't robin just grow 6 BIG ASS arms with mille-fleures on a giant mountain wall behind an enemy (like the one where she fought gladius) and just MUDA MUDA MUDA them like bayonetta does to bosses?
most of my relationships haven't even lasted as long as the Dressrosa arc. to all of those who faithfully tuned in every week for it while it was coming out, y'all have the patience of saints
I Actually Binge Watched this arc from start to finish while I was stuck in the hospital for a whole week, which is pretty much kept my sanity in check. Great Video as always GLR! Also, C P 0 YESSS!
This arc was so much fun for me. I like to listen to the arc review before I watch it so I can go back and compare my opinion with grandline. The two things I mainly disagree with are Rebecca and Law. I think you really have to take both of there situations into consideration in regards to the arc. I loved both of there stories and it is easy to forget that Rebecca is a 15yo girl who had her family ripped away and Law was going up against his mentors who knew so much about him. My favorite part of the arc was when Luffy turned to Bellamy and said, you've changed Bellamy. Great story telling, Oda is extremely gifted.
Sadly, the most dragged-on Arc in One Piece as of yet. (But my favorite part of this arc is the foreshadowing of when Luffy talking to Blackbeard through the snail phone)
This is one of the BEST reviews I've ever seen! Your rewiews keep getting better and better! You sound and know EXACTLY what you are talking about! Keep up the great work!
Personally, I feel like robin is fine the way she is. Some people want everyone in the crew to fight and I respect that, but logically speaking, it's not her job. Her job is to read poneglyths and decipher any ancient facts for the crew. Same ges with everyoen else apart from luffy and zoro which is why they are both broken they are fighters
As characterization goes, post-timeskip Robin had many issues. Her personality kinda remains the same, a diva as always and that's good... But her training with Dragon was kinda pointless, she didn't even developed haki. Of all the strawhats "masters", Dragon and his army were easily the third best. Only Rayleigh and Mihawk could have been more effective as teachers. In Dressrosa she had more screen time, but as always... the secondary characters took over. That's the major issue of Oda as a writer, he wastes time with every secondary character. And there's no arc with more randoms than dressrosa, an entire coliseum of boring and uncharismastic characters. Kyrus alone had 50 pages of flashbacks, he literally stole a fight from Robin (facing an even lamer antagonist). These pacing issues plagues One Piece since the very beginning smh it can be frustrating
Forgot to mention this earlier, but it was also great to see the Straw Hats get significant raises on their bounties(sans Chopper lol) after this arc. Still believe Robin's is criminally low for her given her reputation.
I just realised something 50 weeks in a year 1 episode a week 100 episodes equals 100 weeks This arc was {in one piece world} 1day They spent 2 years on 1 arc wow
The thing with One Piece that Dress Rosa is a prime example of is that even if you don't enjoy/care for a specific arc (this one due to length), it still remains as a key piece in the chain of events to come. Just about every island has something "integral" to the story. Hell, if they didn't go to Skypea, a place cut off from the rest of the world and has no relation, they wouldn't have had the money for Franky to steal that got them the Thousand Sunny. As one example, that is.
My favorite thing by far about Dressrosa that definitely does not need a mention is the most hard boiled clash between Franky and Senior Pink. Taking turns being attacked without defending till a victor is met was truly astonishing
Dressrosa was such an amazing arc. So many fight scenes, flashbacks and funny scenes including Nico Robin receiving a face fault expression 😱 (like this at 0:29). When I first saw Robin’s jaw dropping face, I was like “That’s so NOT Robin!”; I thought it was an out-of-character moment but I could be wrong. Maybe it was a little seed of increased character development. 😄 Robin’s face fault expression was seen like three times. Robin’s usually the silently relaxed and friendly woman. But she is still by far the most stoic and silent member of the Straw Hat crew. She still has her moments of coldness, mostly for comedy purposes, but she now fits the silent and intelligent character archetype more than stoic and closed loner archetype that she had before (Robin’s faith and feelings changed after the Enies Lobby arc) which is currently ocuppied by Trafalgar Law.
Despite being so quiet, Robin definitely fits in with the rest of the Straw Hats in terms of goofy comedy, which I'm very glad about. Prior to the timeskip, I don't think she really had a lot of opportunity to build up a light hearted side, so it's nice to see that coming through in the New World. I just wish Oda would unleash her and let her fight >_>;
Great job with this this video, must have been hard to capture everything that worked (and didn't) from this arc, unlike dressrosa I love the length of the video. I would love to watch you review various arcs from various anime. Keep up the good work.
This was the arc that made me stop religiously reading One Piece for so many years. One Piece was my personal obsession, and I never really stopped obsessing over it, but I legit couldn't bring myself to read Dressrosa. I dropped the manga around 20 chapters in. There were just so many characters and so many new plot points that it got way too overwhelming, even for a hardcore OP fan like me. I still followed most of the major events thanks to the Wiki and friends and stuff, but for a long time I just didn't read it. Until finally, during the Wano Arc, I said "screw it" and binged everything starting from the beginning of Dressrosa. And I gotta say...it was still rough. Until near the end of Dressrosa, it was still so slow for me. I had a hard time compelling myself to continue. I feel really bad about missing some things like the Law/Corazion flashback, which was excellent, but most of the early-mid arc I just read slowly. As soon as it was all over though and I got to Zou, it was like the pacing just instantly skyrocketed. I was so invested and didn't slow down from there (except for the Luffy vs. Katakuri fight which I felt lasted too long). Needless to say Dressrosa might be my least favorite arc. It had really great worldbuilding, but no other arc has ever made me drop One Piece. I vow that I will never drop One Piece again!! That alright, King of the Pirates?!
@@marcelokynderman897 Maybe I'm a slow reader, or maybe I just wasn't motivated. I know a few people who either took forever to get through it or blazed through it, so it's all subjective.
@uknownada same with me. I literally skipped episodes and chapters which is something I almost never did, to me even having the whole arc completed and binging it, it was still way to slow for me. It felt like it kept just dragging and dragging on and honestly just like you it made me stop reading and watching one piece consistently. I stopped reading and watching it for a little bit then started it again.
I think Dressrosa is a bit of a necessary evil. I think it will help Oda shape future arcs like Wano and Elbaf. Oda tested certain limits with Dressrosa, and I think proof of that is how much concise Whole Cake Island is compared to Dressrosa even though it was our first direct confrontation with a Yonko.
I'm gonna high key disagree with you about Sabo he's not pointless he fullfills the theme of carryin on a person's will with Ace and controversial opinion but I think Sabo is a better character than Ace and I don't think Sabo has any true potholes the amnesia makes sense Ace would not have concerned himself with the revolutionaries AND it makes sense that Sabo would want it to be him to reveal himself to Luffy not Robin so yeah I love Sabo
StrawHatDango Agreed. GL reasoning for Sabo's inclusion I find is pretty hollow. I can see his point on the amnesia being used as a lazy plotpoint, but the fact that Sabo's name was foreshadowed back in Alabasta, alongside Marineford, and we'd gotten various hints of his survival during the pre/post-timeskip. Also, I find Sabo so much better than Ace. Ace is so overlionized by the OP community. Yeah, his backstory is fine, but he barely did anything. And for most of Marineford he was a damesel in distress. Also, it was his recklessness that got himself killed. Understandable, but at least Sabo when angry, is able to keep himself cool. Also, I prefer Sabo's look but that is me loving how he was inspired by Artful Dodger.
Neil Agreed plus Sabo bein alive does not take anythin away from Aces death Luffy still watched his brother die helplessly and powerlessly that will affect and guide him for the rest of the story regardless of havin Sabo back
While i never considered Dresrossa an Alabasta clone, it's is clearly an updated and more action packed version of Alabasta, with the major question of "What if Crocodile actually won on taking the throne, but not Pluton?". There's also the overall aspect of Marines doing their own Justice (Fujitora did the same that Smoker did by not being involved with the major fight), and the main villain being part of a much bigger organization, except that instead of just being an organization done by Doffy, it's an organization linked to the biggest names in One Piece. I stated in a comment from last week's review that the whole New World narrative has a lot of vibes of using similar stuff from the "first half" of the story, and while Dressrosa clearly follows stuff from Alabasta, and other arcs share similarities in narrative, i would never see them as clones.
Dude honestly thank god for what you said about Sabo. I've always felt the exact same haha. I always knew he was alive and it was just a matter of when he would appear, and I ended up being kind of disappointed in his character basically just feeling like a reskin of Ace. But who knows maybe eventually that will change.
I started watching One Piece when the Anime was in Zou and as someone who was able to marathon through all of Dressrosa in just a few days, it really just blew me away. It's easily one of my favourite arcs in the entire story, tied with EniesLobby/Water7 and Impel Down. While these arcs may feel as though they take forever when read or watched weekly, another thing to remember is that they will be around forever for people to enjoy without having to endure two years. Since I was able to marathon episodes 1-760+ in a very short time, everything feels painfully slow now but I'm really excited to go back and watch each future arc in its entirety when they finish :)
You should have mentioned Burgess donning the devil fruit design bag when he went to kill Sabo. It's evidence that Black Beard brought fruit under that covering and he didn't engage in cannibalism on White Beard.
Do you think you can cover the filler arcs when you finish with canon content? I'd be interested in what you have to say about them, though I'd understand why you'd choose not to.
I'm glad I only caught up to One Piece when Dressrosa was just getting into Law's flashback, I avoided having my opinion muddied by most of the weekly wait but got to experience the disgusting cliffhanger of Gear 4th for maximum hype. Very comfortable, compact review that still covered everything important about the arc.
8:51 Chapter 794 Franky tells Sabo that regaining his memory must have taken some time to come back. Sabo replies "It was Ace that told me everything... at least I believe so. He said to me -You are Sabo! A brother of mine and Luffy's!!!-" I tought they met before Ace death. Am I interpreting this incorrectly?
First Senor Pink was just "Oh what the fuck did you do Oda, it´s enough, stop it" And then Oda pulls an Oda and hits you with the manliness and all I can say is:" I´ll you again someday... So tell me all about it over a few drinks.. The story about that Lucian of yours"
Doflamingo's backstory is awesome because it doesn't set you up to make you feel sorry for him. And his arrogance and twisted nature DOES make you think. Doflamingo is a bad man but regardless of his status as a tenryuubito he was always destined for greatness. I kind of wonder if his family weren't thrown out would he still be this powerful guy. With the unlimited power of a celestial dragon this guy would just be too terrifying.
Yes! One of my favorite arcs is next! *GORONYAAAAAGO!* I loved that it was probably the most justice the anime had done to an entire arc in a long time if not ever.
This arc was good. I was definitely tired of it by the end though. It definitely had the best character development of any other arcs. It's villains were amazing too. It also had some of the best battles to go with the character development. However, I hope that Oda never does an arc this long again. One of my biggest fears is Oda not being able to finish the series. Edit: I am in love with how much time and development my baby Law had. :P Edit: Also, it annoys me that Robin hasn't gotten battles either. That's more of a whole series issue though. For being one of the most powerful Straw Hats she doesn't see a lot of battles outside of being support. However, Robin tanks a lot of damage. She seems to be getting hurt a lot in the post-timeskip arcs. What with that gruesome shoulder wound from Monet and the damage the spiked balls did to her back.
Sabo was supposed to be 'dead' to Luffy back then. Hence the other members of the SH crew didn't know about Sabo' existence since Luffy did not talk about his 'dead' brother Sabo. The reason why Nico Robin didn't tell Luffy about Sabo's existence might be because Luffy did not tell his crew about him at all since he's 'dead'. As proven by how he often talks about Ace since he's alive instead of Sabo who's dead. Moreover it is most likely that Sabo did not tell Nico Robin about his relationship with Luffy and Ace. Which is why Nico Robin did not tell Luffy about Sabo. One more thing........it could be because of plot convenience.
9:20 - ok, gotta address some of this. it's completely possible Ace never knew about that, he wasn't like luffy but he was pretty easy going too (And we have his cover story to show that) he believed sabo to be dead, seeing someone named sabo shouldn't make him go "someone named sabo? it must be my dead brother!" he also knew sabo wanted to be a pirate, not a revolutionary. did Garp even meet sabo? Didn't Robin (or someone else) say that Sabo asked to not tell luffy? am i remembering this wrong?
Garp did meet Sabo in Luffy's second flashback. I have no recollection of Robin being asked not to tell Luffy :s I'll look into it. I stand by the Ace plot point though...it's not just Sabo's name that would have been big news, but his face on wanted posters as well.
GrandLineReview yes he did, at least they fighted. In chapter 745 when robin meets koala and sabo, she asks if they found luffy, this implies that she knew but didnt tell luffy. They dont specify a reason, i think... I cant find it, but the most logical reason is that sabo wanted to surprise luffy and asked her not to. Why would ace care about the revolutionary army? We never saw he even reading a newspaper. Im not saying its probable, but theres a very good chance Ace wouldnt see sabos wanted poster. And even after seeing it, its possible he wouldnt recognize him
Sabo is freaking awesome I’m so glad we got him. Rebecca was a cool character your really under selling her she went undefeated in the coliseum without ever getting hurt and without ever hurting anyone that’s crazy to think about she was actually strong af but of course not quite on executive level which makes sense for a 16 year old girl. Senor pinks back story was important it was the whole reason why he was dressed like that and made us all respect him. Why you hating on the tontotta? Lol Leo was a beast. Other than that agree with ya. Cool vid
The biggest reason why I put dressrose as my number two most favorite arc in one piece isn’t because of the character, or the fights, but rather that I got into One Piece at the start of dressrosa. So I expected the quality of storytelling to take that long with every future arc and I got rewarded for it.
Tbh Sabo should’ve been at the war with Luffy Luffy and Sabo should’ve both reacted to Ace’s death at the same time, since that would be way more impactful. as if there were two Luffy’s next to each other, considering the fact that when Sabo reacted to Ace’s death on a news paper he reacted just like Luffy did, being in shock and fainting in screaming and in tears.
Huh? Did you forget Sabo had amnesia and forgot about Ace, Luffy and everyone at Goa kingdom. He only remembered everything after the war was over, after Ace’s death
I hated this arc. Two years to tell the story of an event happened in one day and tons of flashbacks that doesn’t substantially contribute to the hints to find the One Piece and reveal the Void Century.
I agree we did not learn anything, for example, Mariejoie have a treasure, but we don't know what this treasure or why is it a treasure to begin with... Just like, the one piece, what is it ? Why is it a treasure ? What consequences finding it will have on the grand scheme of thing ? We did not learn anything, there was nothing new (it was Alabasta 2.0), more questions than answers. Oda went too far he do not know when to stop, so that's why he is not a good writer.

That scene made me smile from ear to ear, in a way only One Piece can do.

I have an idea.
Let's show the same flashback of king Riku cutting down his people, but then when we make the anime, let's show it 78 times.
Gotta keep in the tradition, like when they showed Robin's flashback with Saul 42 times in between Enies Lobby's fights.

I became desensitized to King Riku flashback thanks to the anime
Brilliant!

Torogikamlon and the anime is still really close to the manga
It’s actually around 2-3 days
Hamster boy TV they reached punk hazard the same day they the strawhats regrouped on sabaody. Then they go to dressrosa which takes them 2-3 days and arrive in the afternoon, luffy defeats doffy and they stay overnight. The next day they leave and they arrive at zou in one week. They haven’t even been in the new world for a month lol
Also the arrival of God Usopp and him acquiring Observation Haki while taking down Sugar twice haha
We ok ipo
Let this not blind you to fact that Usopp has now one of the highest bounty of the straw hats at 200 000 000 berries
Go D. Usopp
118 weeks
God Usopp also unlock his haki that arc.
Ya,observation haki at its best.
Go D. Usopp.
I did
Can wait for soge king too unlock it aswell
Grandpa Garp Sogeking probably has
the best part of this arc:
"Plus, there's this man who pissed me off the most today!
It's all his fault. i hate him so much,
the one who kills him will get 500 milion $b.
God Usopp"
How was your year?
Well I watched the Dressrosa arc every week in one piece.
How was it?
Idk it’s still not over
That’s literally half of dressrosa
I feel like the reintroduction of sabo is like a trophy to Luffy for continuing his journey after Ace died. If he had stopped there, he never could've met again with his other brother. Besides he's a completely different character than Ace so I really don't see a problem with bringing him back into the story... besides that one plot hole you mentioned.
Sabo was shot down by a celestial as a kid. At least his amnesia was valid
oldman swagga aka Scooba Steve Of course the amnesia will always seem valid.
KemoMind im talking about fans? real time
Nanashi Just because a writing technique is usually used as a cheap way to do something doesn’t the technique itself is bad.
Also Robin didn't even know Luffy had a second brother much less know that Sabo was the brother.
I would think that Sabo wanted to see Luffy in person instead of Robin to telling him. Makes for good heart feelz.
@@zenderas1434 Robin knew but didn't tell Luffy he was alive
I think Matt Cohen of he One Piece Podcast said it the best
"The first half of the arc was awesome, and the second half was awesome, when you put them together they become a very daunting arc"
I couldn't agree more, however I think read as a whole makes things so much better.
T Bone-Troy way to fucking long 112 episodes for a arc is ridiculous
You missed Kaido's introduction in this arc.
It's the single greatest character intro of One Piece, and you missed it.
Sadness.
I agree. His fall from a sky island was so epic
It's not a recap, it's a review
@@Nocturne22 So? Not mentioning one of the Yonkos introduction in an arc review is a big sin. And he thinks Viola is forgettable but Mansherry is not? I mean what?
Unpopular opinion: I thought that intro (while a spectacle) was over the top for a character who is 100% going to lose to plot armour. Why hype someone up like that? When it's all said and done, will he even be stronger than Shanks?
That was in punk hazard
dressrosa arc... can become its own anime .It has more episodes than so many anime series ffs lol
Grand line review. THERES THE “G”
Can I call Lao G sexy?
Stev Da Great
Sexy dried fig

No love for the epic duel between franky and senior pink????
No
Doflamingo is my favorite one piece villian, he's a puppetmaster both figuratively and literally.
#1 thing to take away from this arc.....Zoro looks damn good in a suit
Law a sad presence?
He hold his own in a 1v2 against Doflamingo and Fujitora. A warlord and an admiral.
What are you talking about about? XD
Bartolomeo is one of my favorites in this Arc 💯
So I've been waiting to share this data I personally collected! On re-read, I counted up every page of flashbacks for these totals (this is based on perspective; some flashbacks switch back and forth like with Law & Corazon)
Kyros: 50 pages
Law: 46 pages
Corazon: 33 pages
Doflamingo: 18 pages
Rebecca: 13 pages
Sabo: 7 pages
Chin Jao: 7 pages
Baby5: 7 pages
Señor Pink: 6 pages
Trebol: 4 pages
Sengoku: 3 pages
Violet: 2 pages
Momonosuke: 2 pages
Tsuru: 2 pages
Chief Gancho: 1 page
Leo: 1 page
Buffalo: 1 page
Bellamy: 1 page
King Riku: 1 page
Luffy: 1 page
TOTAL FLASHBACKS: 206 pages, or over 10 chapters, or more than 1 full volume's worth, or, back when chapters were releasing every other week, about 5 months in real time
50 pages of Kyros smh Entire volumes of flashbacks is not something new, I am reading the whole thing again (but this time colored, very cool experience) and in Skypea there's also an entire volume of flashbacks lol I was legitimately surprised, didn't remember the norland flashback was so damn long.
“His string of arrogant mistakes”
Ha I see what you did there
Only thing is bothers me how Luffy could cut Doffy's parasitic skill when even the Diamond guy couldn't from Whitebeard's pirates?
John Hallman had ace stayed the arc would’ve ended the first time Luffy met crocodile
I say Dressrosa is Alabasta done better and really each of the major arcs so far mirrors a pre time skip arc with Wano for right now being Skypiea
@@Saphire1993 i wouldn't exactly say wano is a mirror of skypiea. there are some similarities however i think Wano has way more factors that can effect the arc, and play into the story
I think if Sabo got a new name & face nobody would complain
fun fact I started reading the manga weekly at the literal beginning of dressarosa.
Dressorosa basically copies a lot of Alabasta even the whole idea Crocodile had to take over a country
same can be said for WCI and enies lobby
Little similarities mostly different..
one thing i miss about pre timeskip one piece is the crew actually being together and the fact 2 back to back arcs really had little to do with each other leaving me shocked every time at what came next
..like how barate really has nothing to do with syrup village the way syrup and orangetown don't mesh or how we go from loguetown to laboon to reverse mountain to alabasta to little garden to drum back to alabasta to then jaya and skypeia then water 7 then thriller bark to sabaody to amazon lilly impel down ...it didn't feel as planned like now in the yonko arc...all arcs that don't really mesh are exciting...thriller bark was such a big wtf as was amazon lilly...i just like not knowing...but like since fishman we know the next stop
The straw hat fleet representatives/gladiators vs the doflamingo family was amazing! My favorites being, kyros vs diamante, giant guy (his name is hard too spell D:
Am I a fool if I called Doffy "Don Flamingo"

Dressrossa = Alabasta s Thicc Little brother
PaulEaxe Alabasta is thicker
As a saga Alabasta starts from Laboon's arc.
Alabasta Saga starts when they find Laboon and ends when they leave Alabasta, but the actual “Alabasta arc” is just the time spent on the island.
what about the development for my guy usopp
God Usopp whos usopp? You mean god?
Meeting Sabo, Rosinante, fujitora, Bartolomeo and many more actually for me worth it...
Robin didn’t even know that they were brothers so why would she tell Luffy about a brother she doesn’t know is related to him.
Redha Delf
She might've made the connection when Sabo went berserk after getting his memory back and reading about Ace. However I'm not sure if she knew Ace and Luffy were brothers.
Didn't the guy regain his memories when Ace died.
Wouldn't he have told her who he was to Luffy?
Aya ya
Maybe. Why would he know Robin knew Luffy?
Because she's on his fking crew.
Redha Delf It could have be a anime only thing but in episode 737 (I just look it up) Sabo meets the Straw Hats and Robin was the one to tell them that Sabo and Luffy are brothers. She didn't say anything because Sabo has the rights to not her.
I was there from begning to start
For a long time I thought we Won't see Another arc beside Dressrosa
But Overall I enjoyed the arc it's top 8 imo

2. Alabasta
3. Marine ford

2 Dressrosa
3 Enies Lobby
4 Whole Cake Island
5 Impel Down

I would prefer it over alabasta though given how much grandier things are in this arc..and so many satisfying moments...
My sister has it #2, Ive got it #8 only below
Enies Lobby+Water 7
Skypiea
Sabaody
Alabasta
Marineford
Whole Cake Island
Arlong Park
Also She did capture cavendish and that was a pretty nice feat
Can't robin just grow 6 BIG ASS arms with mille-fleures on a giant mountain wall behind an enemy (like the one where she fought gladius) and just MUDA MUDA MUDA them like bayonetta does to bosses?
Jaxon Moreno yes, but any damage the limbs take, robin also takes.
So a competent enemy might just cut her arm off
Once again thanks for this video

YESSS!
Yay, one of my favorite arcs! I’ve been waiting for this
This arc was so much fun for me.
Thanks :D
I love Robin, but post-timeskip, all she does is giggle at the Straw Hats' antics.
I really wish they would give her more fight scenes
Dressrosa WAS the darkest time for the anime
That title now goes to The Reverie
Forgot to mention this earlier, but it was also great to see the Straw Hats get significant raises on their bounties(sans Chopper lol) after this arc. Still believe Robin's is criminally low for her given her reputation.
Thank you for these reviews, it makes me want to rewatch arcs!
Keep these videos coming man! This shit actually entertaining my high as and that’s rare for me to say 💯
Glad to hear it! :D
I just realised something
50 weeks in a year
1 episode a week
100 episodes equals 100 weeks
This arc was {in one piece world} 1day
They spent 2 years on 1 arc wow
eshan hanif loll

Great review! I'm new to the channel and love one piece so this is amazing. Especially for things I've missed or different points of view.

Despite being so quiet, Robin definitely fits in with the rest of the Straw Hats in terms of goofy comedy, which I'm very glad about. Prior to the timeskip, I don't think she really had a lot of opportunity to build up a light hearted side, so it's nice to see that coming through in the New World. I just wish Oda would unleash her and let her fight >_>;
Great job with this this video, must have been hard to capture everything that worked (and didn't) from this arc, unlike dressrosa I love the length of the video. I would love to watch you review various arcs from various anime. Keep up the good work.
"Luffy went to the pound and got a new older brother"! XD
That shouldn't make me laugh, I love Sabo, how dare you! :P
"string of arrogant mistakes"
Lmao. I read that in about 4 days. I didn't find it slow or something like that.
Oda tested certain limits with Dressrosa, and I think proof of that is how much concise Whole Cake Island is compared to Dressrosa even though it was our first direct confrontation with a Yonko.
am i the only one who didnt notice dressrossas length because i binged it ?
great vid! also the people in your discord are hilarious.
If they had just given sabo a different name to coincide the memory loss it would’ve plugged a lot of the “how did they not know” questions
I love this arc, Fijitora was such a cool presence through the whole thing he is by far my favorite (not main)character
Neil Agreed plus Sabo bein alive does not take anythin away from Aces death Luffy still watched his brother die helplessly and powerlessly that will affect and guide him for the rest of the story regardless of havin Sabo back
How did he remember his name was Sabo?
I thought that was the point of Luffy using Fire Attacks?
Aya ya they're simply a tribute but Sabo inherited his will itself like Whitebeard said
This Arc is so massive that you finally caught back up to me. And I've been pulling like 3-7 episodes a day!
Ha, you never had a chance of staying ahead of me with Dressrosa and Whole Cake Island ;D
I was hoping that this arc review was longer. Very excited.
Oh, THIS freaking arc... Being an anime only watcher, I nearly dropped the series.
No one cares
One piece is best and dressrosa is best arc

wow! what a great review! It really made appreciate the arc more. My main issue with the arc was woth how the villan was defeated.
Not gonna lie I think the anime did make me hate dressrosa a lot more than it would if I had read the manga.
YES I WAS WAITING FOR SO LONG FOR THIS
Dude honestly thank god for what you said about Sabo.
Pain OfTheRain 🔥
If you think about it Oda unknowingly had us all experience a taste of what it feels like to be in the hyperbolic time chamber with this arc...
Great channel for OP arc reviews
8:51 Chapter 794 Franky tells Sabo that regaining his memory must have taken some time to come back. Sabo replies "It was Ace that told me everything... at least I believe so. He said to me -You are Sabo! A brother of mine and Luffy's!!!-"
I tought they met before Ace death. Am I interpreting this incorrectly?
Could u pls talk about Cavendish in ur next One Piece 101? Awesome Video btw
When we thought dressrosa was long we hadn't met wano yet lol
Two years for one arc. What the hell
I cannot believe I missed the Sabo plotholes. I felt weird about it anyway but still. Wow.
*GORONYAAAAAGO!*
I loved that it was probably the most justice the anime had done to an entire arc in a long time if not ever.
woo almost up to date
I completely skipped kyros background. I understood it without even watching.
I’m a binge watcher. Never in my life have I ever not either caught up to an anime or finished a series… until I watched w this arc. 😮💨
Nice review as always keep the awesome job
This arc was good. I was definitely tired of it by the end though. It definitely had the best character development of any other arcs. It's villains were amazing too. It also had some of the best battles to go with the character development. However, I hope that Oda never does an arc this long again. One of my biggest fears is Oda not being able to finish the series.
Edit: I am in love with how much time and development my baby Law had. :P
Edit: Also, it annoys me that Robin hasn't gotten battles either.
Well robin wasn’t told about sabo being luffy’s brother she probably knew of sabo just not his relation
9:20 - ok, gotta address some of this.
it's completely possible Ace never knew about that, he wasn't like luffy but he was pretty easy going too (And we have his cover story to show that)
he believed sabo to be dead, seeing someone named sabo shouldn't make him go "someone named sabo? it must be my dead brother!"
he also knew sabo wanted to be a pirate, not a revolutionary.
did Garp even meet sabo?
At what episodes start the dressrosa arc
Tbh Sabo should’ve been at the war with Luffy
Luffy and Sabo should’ve both reacted to Ace’s death at the same time, since that would be way more impactful. as if there were two Luffy’s next to each other, considering the fact that when Sabo reacted to Ace’s death on a news paper he reacted just like Luffy did, being in shock and fainting in screaming and in tears.
Huh? Did you forget Sabo had amnesia and forgot about Ace, Luffy and everyone at Goa kingdom. He only remembered everything after the war was over, after Ace’s death
Guys what episode did start this arc can some one said?
Dressroza is my favorite arc.
