Mattis' Magic Ring Boosts Bard Success rate for Busker Trophy !!! yep really
I noticed that if I :
1: freshly equip Mattis' Magic ring ( so far considered useless junk )
2: And then play a tune to an NPC I have not interacted musically with since my last long sleep
3: I get a successful busker event.
(giving me at least 1 gold ( ie.. the roll is 16 for small group or a crit 20 for larger group.... but in either case its a guaranteed minimum threshold met for group size )
4: 100 gold approx required for the trophy
NOTE THAT IF ANYONE JOINS THE GROUP IM TARGETING THAT I HAVE INTERACTED WITH musically PREVIOUSLY SINCE THE LAST LONG REST...THE BUSKING ATTEMPT FAILS.
therefore its quicker to target small groups or single targets

p.s. I got the busker trophy as my 26th trophy In Act 1 in Emerald grove with a Charisma level of -1
as a non bard player who got the busking ability thru the Alfira songwriting mini quest.
( as I use the smugglers ring which is another nerf -charisma on my already Charisma low Rogue ) xxx
most folks on PSNPROFILES get the Busker trophy In Rivington or Baldurs gate ...and its approx. their 35th trophy...... this is my 26th and its in Act 1 ...

and at the time of posting This video on this subject...The Busker trophy is still a frustrating plat blocker... being one of the most difficult trophies to gain statistically .May 2024.

30 hours into another playthrough with a bard and I haven't failed a check yet so yeah pretty sure equipping the magic ring works! It's good until you can get more effective rings plus its fun for RP to keep a ring from a kid lol
Thanks to that 7, you're -2 CHA, not -1. You'd need an 8 to be -1.

Did you get performance from the npc bard interaction in the grove? If so you have a bonus to performance compared to if you just performed with the equipped instrument 'perform' skill, but if that's not the case, then it's likely
I didn't have the ring, and I didn't long rest while getting this achievement. Achievements are secondary for me, but for this one I wanted to see if it is possible to get it without playing a Bard and as early as in Emerald Grove.
I just walked around Emerald Grove and played near different groups of NPCs. Turned out that when I went to another area (like from The Hollow to the Sacred Pool) and back, the NPCs dropped again.
My character had the instrument profiency from Alfira and 14 Charisma, to increase the chance to pass the checks I had Thaumaturgy and Guidance active on him. Took me a bit over an hour. Can't tell exactly, as I am playing via GeForce Now I don't see the achievements pop up, I just see them later when I quit the game.
Would be way easier, of course, to wait until a place with a lot of NPCs, then do a quick respec into Bard or use a Bard Hireling... but as I had the instrument profiency and a lot of fun playing different instruments...
Not sure if it's different on console (I doubt it), but you already get gold from busking. Doesn't even need a crit success. I've never actually failed the check with my bard, so the DC probably isn't even very high.
Hi Thanks for contributing here ...on console.. the target dice roll for success in busking event seems to pan out at about at least a 16 for a small group ( 1-3 ) or a20 crit for larger group....in my experience .... and note that my tav is not a bard... She has the lowest charisma possible....so even getting a single piece of gold without the ring is a tough call. Happy gaming

@@oddvon If you roll high enough any points to buff or nerf still gonna let you pass specially if you're roll a Natural 20 this game use the homebrew of social critical success and failure that in basic dnd is only applies to attack.

Yeah.... same here......I don't think the other rings are special... but this one... you have a single chance to get it.......the rest is becoming history... this IS a thing : )
