  • Heading out for second trial. Fixed the exhaust leak, modified the jet intake and added a bilge pump. Hope to get 45mph today if the lake is smooth enough.

    We actually modified the bottom of the boat to mitigate the cavitation. It runs very good now. Top speed on gps to date is 46. Still had throttle left but boat started to porpoise. Runs comfortable at 35. Haven't decided on next project.

    Nice. Sorry I am welder by trade so I guess I notice those things. You can get pulse mig..would help. Or tig process if you have access. Any way. Nice build man. Really nice

    Building one just like yours what did you have to do to the fuel system if anything or did you just run a regular line with primer bulb to the inlets on the carb.

    You can rig up something for reverse. As for the porpoising issue, would some trim tabs fix it? ..I mean, just a couple of aluminum tabs... Or wait, how about a couple of door hinges with some threaded rods to stiffen them and make them manually adjustable ..or maybe build one of those beaver tail boxes off the back of the transom.. That thing looks like a blast

      j dog I put a reverse bucket on but it flooded the boat above idle so I removed it. The nozzle has an adjustment for pitch and I plan on using hard stop adjustments instead of adding another cable. I am ok with cruising 35. It hit 48 on the gps before I backed off. That was just too fast for the little Jon, but it is quite thrilling. I just use the boat for joy rides with the kids. My next post will be the 14ft Jon with a 48hp airboat prop. I’ll post a video as soon as I put it in the water.

    I know hard to weld on thin aluminum. Dont want sound negative but can clean those welds up. Boat looks nice. Good luck. Very good job.

      I agree. I am a novice at welding thin aluminum. Next build will be much better. Plan on using a 670cc Predator engine modified by “Performance 670” that boost power from 22 to 48hp.

    Just wondering with boat and PowerPlant about how much did it cost in supplies to build this? It's a very nice machine I love it!

      Hi Jcremard, The engine and jet pump cost $1800.00 from a Yamaha jet ski. The Alumacraft 1436 cost $800 from Academy. The trailer cost $700 from Academy. Steering box and components about $400.00. Aluminum for doubler plate for engine $100.00. Misc supplies $300. These prices were about 4 years ago.

      Water output from the jet pump has a y-valve where the garden hose is installed for running the boat out of water.

      Yes. It was a project boat. Who would put a 800cc/120 hp engine on a 14ft alum boat? The interior has a 1/4 in doubler plate to absorb the power/vibrations from the engine so the hull is sound. It is slightly...no way over powered and it consistently hit 48mph wot. I can only keep it there for a few seconds because of the bouncing. My sons and I have a blast flying across the small lake here in northern TX. The 3 gal fuel gives us about 45 min run time cruising at 35 mph. My next project will be a 50hp modified 600cc Predator engine (modified by Performance 670) on a 14ft Jon but with a wider boat.

      @@nwsw5764 I thought that's what you said in the video, no? ..not 800cc? Whatever it is, I assume it's a 4 stroke to be able to cruise for so long on 3½ gal of gas. I have an old seadoo speedster. Its the boat with twin jets (720cc 85hp each). I can burn up 25 gal of gas in about 2 hrs. But that's going balls out , close to 60mph.
      About the bouncing, can you hook up any kind of trim tabs on it? ..or maybe weigh down the bow a little.. Or hey, how about hooking up some kind of jetevator or whatever they're called. You know, like all those hotrod jet boats from the 70's had that makes them shoot up that sick roostertail... I don't know if it's a secondary cone that diverts the water jet up n down or if its a special cone that has 360° movement aft.. Anyway, I get that porpoising action sometimes on one of the rivers here. I chop it up with the 2 throttles. It used to happen when I used to get up on my kneeboard. I would just did my toes in the water like I was plowing it and it stopped right away. That's why I was thinking trim tabs.. hmmm.. Could be an impeller thing too.. but idk. Is GROUP K still in operation? I'm sure they have the answer if they are. Check them out online.

      The engine is a Yamaha 801cc 2 cycle engine. The original fuel tank was I believe 15 gallons. The 14ft flat bottom cruises effortlessly between 30 and 35. Keep in mind that the boat is aluminum, a flat bottom Jon, with a beam about 54 inches. The transom is stressed for 15hp so it doesn’t take much power to propel it through water. The boat is very light. Each outing has been about 30 minutes of run time and there is always fuel remaining. I cannot run wide-open-throttle for more than a few seconds because the high speed without trim tabs causes it to propose. Besides, going that fast in the boat is creepy. With the flat bottom, too much air underneath could mean a flip. So I am fine cruising between 30 to 35. We used a gps to check the speed. The project was a blast and I am looking forward to the next build.

      @@nwsw5764 yea, its probably quite a bit lighter than mine and much narrower. Dry n empty, my speedster weighs almost 1,400 lbs. From stem to stern its 14'-6" with a 7'-1" beam and its got a pretty deep(ish) v hull. Loaded with 4 people and all our gear, I can still get it up to about 58 mph and catch some descent air off of the right cruiser's wake.. At least 3' of air and that hull makes for a comfortable landing.
      Have you seen the video of the jet ski with the hayabusa motor in it?.. It's insane.. I'll edit it into this comment

      Yes, covered by 3M 5200 sealant. The aluminum on the hull is very thin and my alum welding skills need lots if practice.

    Il est bien votre projet, mais vous bouger trop à droite et à gauche, vous ne vous êtes pas attarder sur la partie essentiel qu'est le moteur, le jet pompe
    Et surtout la façon dont ces deux sont couplés. Merci si vous avez une vidéo sur la construction et le couplage du moteur et de la jet pompe votre projet m'intéresse beaucoup.
