This is not a good representation of doctor doom. Doctor doom is one of the best characters that has not had a good representation on screen.
Think of a cross between doctor strange, Ironman, and Thanos.
This is the reason people did not like this movie. The mask is iconic and should be his face pretty much all the time. Doom should have a much greater presence and almost be the protagonist.

People didn't like it because the plot wasn't that strong. These movies are based on books/comics, and people don't like it when things are taken so far that they are not as recognizable as the source material or a good plot. The mcu with Captain America was in disney ownership. These marvel characters, along with a few, are fox. That's what separated the characters, such as the torch and captain America. Disney bought them out and made him captain America instead. Remember, people have been paying thousands and supporting characters before the 60s. Passing on the love of the content.

    - 20th Century Fox had X-Men, Daredevil, and Fantastic Four
    - Universal had The Incredible Hulk; in large part because they obtained the rights back in the 70’s to make The Incredible Hulk TV Series with Bill Bixby & Lou Ferrigno.
    - Columbia Pictures had Spider-Man
    - New Line Cinema had Blade
It wasn’t until 2007, when Marvel; under Kevin Fiege had the idea of building “a universe” where each story intersects and connects with each other.

@@Crim50nDynam0 Yeah but that's kinda the point. The popularity of comic book characters has _exploded_ "in the current times". It's insincere to claim "X *is* more popular than Y" based on how things were several decades ago. If you include the fans that the movies have brought in, the relative popularity of the characters we haven't really seen recently _must_ have gone down. You can't convince me the Fantastic 4 is more popular than Spider-Man without some serious data to back that claim up.
Don't get me wrong, I like Dr. Doom more than I like Green Goblin, but my likes don't determine what is more popular universally. And Magneto certainly isn't the only villain that has been done justice to. Even Ultron was a lot more interesting character in the MCU than in the comics.

However, these names were chosen by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in the 1960s, a time when comic books were more lighthearted and focused on sci-fi and adventure.
The names reflect the characters' powers and personalities:
    • Mr. Fantastic (Reed Richards) is a nod to his incredible stretching abilities and his leadership role.
    • Human Torch (Johnny Storm) references his ability to generate flames from his body.
    • The Thing (Ben Grimm) is a self-deprecating name, as he struggles with his new, rock-like appearance.

Fans take issue with how Dr. Doom is inaccurately portrayed here. He’s actually a dictator of a fictional country called Latvaria, he excels in many talents, especially science & magic arts.
He wasn’t on the space station with the Four, he has his own origin from being born to gypsies and rising to become ruler of his country, but still has a rivalry with Reed Richards. Doom accidentally damaged his face because he put his metal mask on while it was still hot.
Doom genuinely believes he can save all the world’s problems if he’s the one ruling all of it, but his ego and perfectionist keep getting in the way. Another of his goals is also to rescue his gypsie mother from hell.

The Fantastic 4 is a Marvel production, but the MCU wasn't a thing at the time. They were just busy making a movie on it's own merit, not trying to make a whole universe. And believe me, I was skeptical when they cast Chris Evans as Captain America after he was Human Torch, but he surprised me. One thing people didn't like was the portrayal of Dr. Doom, which is his Supervillain name. Dr. Doom is the RULER of the fictional European country, Latveria, and he commands science AND magic as is superpowers. He attended college with Reed but an accident caused his face to get burned and he resented Reed ever since, swearing to always prove himself better than Reed. Dr. Doom was Darth Vader before Darth Vader even existed.

  • @LittleGalaxyBoy
    @LittleGalaxyBoy Před 21 dnem +7

This film is very much a modernized take on the F4 origin story but still does an okay job at translating it into the 2000s. Beginning with Fantastic Four #1 (1961) the F4 launched into Space during an experimental space flight for the government. At the last minute the government cancelled the flight so Reed, pilot Ben Grimm, along with Susan Storm, and her brother, Johnny Storm sneaked into the launch site at night and blasted off into space. in space they were exposed to cosmic rays, which gave them super human powers and abilities, crash landing back on earth where they discovered their new powers. Very much themed around space travel and the Space Race of the 1960s. They become public figures as one of the few hero teams who's real identify are known to the public.
For the film they changed it to a Space Station owned by Doom with the overall origin very much centred around Victor Von Doom unlike the comics. Doom himself is heavily altered for this movie depicting him as a CEO of a major organization who's who gained the power to absorb and manipulate electricity. in the comics Doom and Reed were rivals in college. He was disfigured at the hands of his own machine, though the disfigure was very minor but to Doom it made him "imperfect". He returned to his home country of Latveria and became their dictator, crafting an iron man like suit covered by a green robe and a mask that hides his face. His powers come from the suit itself rather than from some kind of inner power caused by an accident. He also ventures into magic as well but most of the time he's more Science based.
So Doom was not apart of the accident that gave the F4 their powers in the comics and there's zero reason to really connect him to any of that. I'm super excited for Fantastic Four: Next Steps releasing next year. Looks to fully embrace the 1960s Space Age themes of the F4 so that's super exciting.

I'm pretty sure Peter went to the F4 right away during the start of this story but couldn't wear his Spier-Man as he was wanted. So they gave him a F4 suit but had no masks to give as they don't hide their identities. So Peter grabbed a bag and used it as a mask.

The reason this is hated is because Dr. Doom is Nothing like his comic book counterpart which is a thousand times better and lots of people's favorite villain from Marvel Comics

It is important to see all the legacy Marvel movies since Phase 4- Phase 6 is the multiverse and includes all Marvel movies in one way or another. Your editor is just getting you ready for Phase 5 of Marvel MCU.

You have said that you have a very bad memory, right? So let me recap something that you have already watched. Reed Richards appeared in Dr Strange in the multiverse of madness. He was portrayed by John Krasinski and it was his only appearance as Reed Richards. It was actually a fancast. A new iteration of the fantastic four set in the MCU is coming next year July 25 starring Pedro Pascal as Reed, Vanessa Kirby as Sue , Joseph Quinn as Johny and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben. It is titled as "The Fantastic Four Fist Steps" and the director is Matt Shakman, the director of WandaVision.

#1) Never listen to folks that say skip this movie or that movie. The movie going world is full of snooty, snobbish, jaded fans, particularly comicbook fans that hate anything that’s not what they remember from their childhood or want a movie to be. Normies usually don’t have that same problem and enjoy these film just fine. Fantastic Four 2 is fine. So are most of the pre-MCU Marvel movies. Watch them all, enjoy the ride, take them for what they are. #2) This was pre-MCU via 20th Century Fox so Marvel took a chance and hired the best actor (and inexpensive at the time) available, Chris Evans and it paid off.

Honestly the best thing about this movie is the fact that the 4 actually come across as a weathered family with Johnny & Ben in particular helping that come across. It’s just that the plot is just so thin.

I feel like the only thing that would have been better than RDJ playing Victor von Doom would be Julian McMahon returning to the role. That would have been INSANE!!!!!

In the early pantheon (60's to about mid 70's) The Thing was the 3rd most physically powerful Marvel superhero, the list went Hulk, Thor, Thing, Spider-Man. When this came out the MCU didn't exist yet, and Marvel had licensed the rights to certain characters to different film studios. The Fantastic Four and the X-Men were controlled by 20th Century Fox, Spider-Man was controlled by Sony and The Hulk was controlled by Universal.

He is actually a big Marvel fan and was responsible for the low budget Roger Corman Fantastic Four movie being buried because he thought it would bring down the brand. Still, kind of a dick move since the creators worked hard on the movie with their limited means and it’s still probably the best Fantastic Four movie ever made

Michael Chiklis (the actor who played Ben Grimm/Thing) is a big fan of the character and made sure he did everything he could to get the part. He even insisted on learning how to talk through the heavy prosthetics on set rather than solely do ADR.
