Check back in 8 weeks.....if they haven't been shown how to help out with household chores, the home will be back into the state of disaster it was prior to cleaning....you can't teach people over night to change the way they live. Even an 5 yr old can fold towels & wash cloths and put them away....

when my family was poor before(not as in poor.. my dad have enough money for the necessity but not luxury.. literally.. we got food but not materials like fancy stationary and clothes.. we hv less than 3/4 pairs of new clothes per yr.. two of them we got during raya festive.. the other prolly our random whining that we cried because we want them so bad kinda poor) we have a very small house with 6 kids.. regardless our house was so clean.. my oldest brother is a book maniac..he saved his school money to buy books weekly...2 of my siblings was admitted to the hospital with just 3 yrs apart.. the first was because she have a muscle paralyzed called rapdomyolisis.. and the other was because of leukemia cancer.. so we have tonne shits of toys i our home because of donations from other ppl as well some education or sense trigger toys.. and of course my mom wasn't in the house while took care of the 2 kids.. but nonetheless our house was so clean at that time.. because we were thought to help.. even when our siblings were ok from their sickness i didn't remember our house being untidy.. especially we were all age less than 12 at the time.. i know for the family the mother is working the dad is sick.. but they have like 3 girls.. small space is easier to clean.. really hope they become discipline and help clean up their house.. mothers teach your kids to help since they are small.. ask them to clean their own mess.. my mom would swept our toys that are laying around on the floor.. mom nowadays spoils their kids too much!! if the family read this.. please take this as an advice and be a better person.. not just to shape your kids to learn about cleanliness but to discipline them as well.. kids please if you know your mom is working and your dad is sick.. PLEASE BE RESPONSIBLE AND HELP THE CHORES IN THE HOUSE. my siblings iron our clothes since we in standard one.. wash our dish after eat since we were 6..

Absolutely correct! Children need to learn early that THEY are a part of a clean, nice place to live and as such, they must be a part of keeping it that way! NO EXCUSES. And the parents who do NOT teach their children that, are setting them up for failure in their adult life. Not always, but more times than not. Habits begin early in life and it is the parents responsibility to instill those good habits into their child's life so they can be caring, responsible, healthy both mentally and physically, adults when they grow up.
There is NO legitimate excuse for it to be any other way!

The kids should have done the chores, but then again, the parents were too tired to enforce that, and the kids are kids - they didn't forsee what will eventually happen if the clutter keeps pilling up, until it became overwhelming.

cleaning your house, or disciplining your kids to help with chores, or
even painting walls and stop hoarding junk. and depending on cleaning crew to clean your house to the livable state.

Afiraz if you have never lived in chronic pain you should not judge people. I wasn't a woman with 9 kids but I suffer from a back injury that I got in 1995. I couldn't keep up with our families lifestyle and my husband left for it. I continued to work against Doctors orders which led to countless surgeries and procedures. I was put out on disability. I know what it's like to feel like a piece of shit because you know longer can afford your home because of the income loss. And you can't keep it sparkling clean as you did for 20 years. So try to put your shoes on someone else's feet before you judge.

Sorry for what you went through. Just because you went through pain doesn't mean they had the same situation. Believe me I am familiar with people who using system to just apply for disability just to not work and get money. And I have been raised in similar country where these family is originally from. They just using system for free living.

The father's injury is important. The mother would be helping the father do his needed things and she works. If the parents are busy they have less time to teach kids to clean up. One thing piles ontop of the other and then bam, you have a disaster. When I had a newborn, my partner works nights. I was not sleeping much and neither was he. I had 2 other kids to care for under 6 years old. So things got messy quickly. Kids were making messes faster than we could clean up and we needed to sleep. Thankfully, my Dad and his gf came over and helped us clean up to get it back to normal. These things happen, and you need to just have help to fix i lt

I went to work at 14 and kept my grades above average in school, 3 of the children are over that age. If you can afford cell phones for your kids, noticed them carrying the around, there should be some responsibilities in exchange. There are younger children, if I counted correctly they were born after his disability. Every country is different and the living style also differs. Depression can debilitate an entire family, but it is kind of hard for a family this big to let the house get like this. When I met my ex husband, the 1 bedroom apartment he lived in was always clean and neat, 9 people lived there. You would have never known, until you looked into the bedroom and dining area and saw all the beds, which were all neat and tidy.

I'll agree with you about the stove and food prep area - That was gross and should be wiped clean after cooking. You are right about that area, but I believe they cannot do much about the walls if they don't have the proper cleaning supplies. Perhaps those beds are against a utility room wall or basement area, we just don't know all the little gritty details. All I can observe, however, is that the children's clothing they have on are in pretty good order too. I am sorry I said you had 'frigging judging eyes' - I think I was thinking back on an experience I had myself when my child had a little friend over who was very outspoken and rude about the appearance of our home. Some parents are not good at delegating tasks and getting the kids to pitch in. They do have many capable hands there Mommy Garcia - You're right!

I'm actually looking up these kinds of videos to try and get me in the right mind set for cleaning. I live with two people (family members) who refuse to help me with the house and I have lived like this since I was too young to remember. The house is worse then a mess, We have ants everywhere, flies and many other things. I have tried for years to get the house clean but with two adults who throw all their garbage on the ground and refuse to help me clean cause they fear bugs, at times it almost feels impossible.
I remember when I was about 10 I would often get so over whelmed by the environment I was living in that I would actually think suicidal thoughts because as a child I could only see life as what was in front of me and all I seen was chaos and carelessness, Id go out late at night just to get away from the house at 11 years old alone and I couldn't really see my family as family anymore I felt like they were far too alien and I still feel that way. Its been so many years and nothing ever got any better so Ive been trying to clean but I keep thinking its too much for just me to work on alone but Im still going to try my best.
I have had people often tell me to move out and believe me I have things planned but due to my mothers health at the moment I cannot move out till I know she will be alright without me so until I can leave I want to try to make my environment at least a little better.

I don't know. But it's sounds like an unhealthy living condition for you. Ultimately, it's unhealthy for your mind since you also mentioned unpleasant thoughts.
Please consider moving out ASAP. Your mom will be fine. Or take her with you. But don't stay too much longer unless someone can help you do a make over. But that's not a solution. It's just a temporary recovery. Best wishes.

It's not about the cleaning habits here,
Sometimes you are in such a mess that you need an external helping hand to take you out of there and start fresh.
Sometimes you have the energy to clean but some personal tragedy or some situation puts you off and things such as regular cleaning have no place in your life.
Slowly the mess becomes messier and then it's difficult to find a staring point.
    I really appreciate this service.
Cleaning habits are good , must be followed but sometimes you are so occupied with other things and issues that this takes a second place and actually effects your health too.
Some People who stay away from their family and are staying alone usually end up with this mess
And since it's so messy and your personal things are around and for safety reasons you are scared to take a regular helping maid or so.
A good entrepreneurial idea which can help several people get a chance to start afresh.
    Well done

Sona Yan Agreed. I grew up in a home...my momma had eight kids...this was in the early 1950s - 60s. Back then it was not uncommon to have 8 to 14 to even 16 kids. My friend had 21 siblings from the same parents. It can be over whelming but rather fun. Due to poverty, from a third world, no media, no internet etc etc...well these things can happen. However these days are different. I'm sure cleanliness can be taught...for starters. When it comes to the furniture etc etc...well I'm sure sponsorship can come a long way...just saying the present era leaves no excuse for a disorganised home with grown kids. The parents themselves have a certain level of education. So picking after yourself can be taught. So that being said I shall stick within this perimeter. :O)

Kids should help their parents. 9 kids can do all the work around the house. Don't tell me they cannot. One can do the dusting, another one can do the vacuum cleaning, another one can do the dishes, another one the laundry, some of them can go shopping... They make 9 kids and then just ask for someone else's help. It is their mentality to just raise their palm and wait for help. My father got very sick with his heart and then he had a serious head injury at work (he worked as a high-voltage electrician). He almost died. But he didn't have to worry about his house or about me. We had a huge house with a large garden and there weren't 9 of us, but I was an only child aged 12 at that time. And I had to manage it all. I was used to helping around the house, so it was not a big deal for me to manage the house. I did all the house cleaning, I mopped the floors, I cleaned the carpets, I did the dusting, I even cleaned the windows, washed clothes, ironed it, I did all the shopping, cooking, I mowed the lawn, I picked the fruit in the garden (we grew raspberries, red and black currant, gooseberries, apples...), we had chickens so I took care of them and we had a cat and two dogs - I fed them, gave them water and I walked the dogs... And I did very well at school too. I was just 12 but I had to do it. No mother, no siblings, just a sick father, the pets, the huge house, the garden and my school. I was no super-girl. I was just used to working and I knew how to do it.
